Next up: Monthly Medal at Matoa, Sunday 31st August 2014

matoaBack to the future as we get ready to take on Matoa in the Tee Set Monthly Medal once again.

A good course and a fair challenge and, with its bright and cheery meeting/resto for after play activities, a fine location for the Medal event.

As foreseen in our last post, we will now tee off at 11:00 from two tee boxes – having paid our green fees etc of a very reasonable 600,000 roops or just 525,000 if walking this eminently walkable course.

All the usual prizes up for grabs, plus of course the 500,000 Slaney’s Butchery voucher for the Stableford winner, a 150,000 Cecelia’s Cafe for Low Putts and 6 of Santi’s Premium Pies finest for Closest to the Pin as well as the cash prizes for every category. Thanks once again to our great sponsors, we love you!

As we have previously reported, the 2014 Tee Set Championship will be held on 30th November and letters will be going out shortly to all the prospective sponsors we have identified.

If you have any ideas for new sponsors, or you or your company would like to contribute door prizes for instance, then do let the Immediate Past President of Loads of Things know, he has picked up that poisoned chalice once again this year. Well done Ric 🙂

See ya at Matoa! …. Tee Set

Imperial Golf Klub, Sunday 24th August 2014

funny skirtsThe Day

Another perfect Tee Set Sunday in beautiful playing conditions at the excellent Imperial Golf Klub with a K out in the eastern flatlands,  a venue much enhanced for many by the opening of the final section of the outer ring road.

40 minutes from Cecelia’s Cafe in Kemang to pulling up at the classy Imperial clubhouse tells its own story.

Cute butThe course was a little quirky which is what you’d expect for a totally manufactured course, however, it was a good and fair challenge while the club house facilities, staff and food could not be faulted and the price was spot on.

Caddies were by general consent cute, but not worth asking for a read on a putt by and large.

First time Tee Set has ever visited this course in its 30+ years of existence – but we’ll most definitely be back again, hopefully before the end of the year with a bit of schedule rejigging.

Newcomers and Welcome BacksA bountiful 48 Tee Setters this week with 9 Newcomers to report and welcome this week, a new record, enjoy your golf with Tee Set all!!!

Two massive Welcome Backs this week with, leading the field, Anita Sheard whose last recorded game with Tee Set was way back in May 2009 to establish a new record 275 weeks absence, while Dale Matthews trailed in second place with a “measly”100 weeks absence until today.

Also good to see Nicky Moir back from Scotland for a couple of weeks visit after 22 weeks away from the Big Durian. Have fun Nicky 🙂

existential skyline

Lucas O'SheardThere is a good selection of photos on our photo gallery for the day. The high-rise buildings popping up on the horizon makes for a somewhat bizarre, almost existential, view from the fairways.

The Tee Set fashion police were forced to give out another yellow card to Lucas Sheard, this after spotting him strolling down the fairway in a pair of the brightest orange slacks you will find in a long day’s march.

Tough on the eyes, and quite unmissable as you can see. Mrs Shears when approached was unable to explain Lucas’s taste in golf wear saying only that “it is NOTHING to do with me”.

The Tee Set carry bag was left at the President’s house after the B-B-Q last Sunday so, for the skirt photo, we had to improvise. Napkins made a more than adequate substitute for the pink tutu as you will have seen above.

The Play

GeorgeRound of the day was surely the startling 72 off the stick from George “Pulpy” Bevege. George really didn’t see what all the fuss was about with regards to those slippery greens and nasty pin placements.  George’s amazing round also meant that Simon Reynolds long run of Low Gross wins is finally broken though he was to take some consolation in the money for first birdie on his very first hole as played.

The biggest winner on the day however was Peter Bush who took the major honours (we are a Low Net society as the Current President of a Number of Things constantly reminds us) with Low Net for the second week in a row, coming in some 9 shots below his handicap this time out for a net 63. Brenda please take note and adjust his handicap accordingly.

First Sandy went to Mike Reid on his first outing with Tee Set and bets are on he’ll be back next week. Low Putts with 27 went to Chris Chan who remembered that buying a beer in the morning for the Immediate Past President of Most Things ensures you’ll always be the winner if a count back occurs. Will others learn from his  example??

John Suermondt yet again secured First Par of the day for a high handicapper, this on hole 5 played despite playing with a pronounced chicken wing swing handicap.

Most improved was shared between Jason Vanderlinde and Agatha Coulthard with a starting if not unprecedented 9 shot reduction on their respective back nines.

Booby Prizes

Rather a moderate skirt haul this week but for once we go all of them in the frame, well done fellas. Agatha Couthard’s mammoth 275 weeks away from Tee Set has clearly not improved her putting as she was to take the Monster Putter “award with a convincing 44 blows while Tom double dipped in sharing Most Strokes with the Immediate Past President of Blow Up Holes and Martin Blobner Well done to each nad every one of you, your treasurer loves you all 🙂

Fuller player by player resullts here.

2014 Tee Set Matchplay Championship

Next up

Next week will see us back to Matoa for the Monthly Medal.

Your hard-working (and hard-drinking – ED) committee has spent countless hours in the Star Deli discussing where the monthly medal should be played in the second half of 2014, with Matoa eventually getting the nod over Senayan in a close contest.

The Tee Set Championship event will also be held at Matoa on the last Sunday in November, the 30th – make a note for your diary.

Matoa will be our venue for the next 6 Monthly Medals, and was of course the venue for our first 8 such events. The Immediate Past President of Almost Everything informs us that the course is in good nick and the clubhouse, recently updated changing facilities and the staff are all very welcoming, though the caddies by and large fit snugly into the old and gnarled category which will surely make many wives happy.

A tee time of 11:30  from tee boxes 1 and 10 on Sunday and green fees of 525,ooo roops if you want to walk this walking friendly course or 600,000 if you share a buggy. Likely to be very hot this weekend and this might influence your decision.

(note: the tee time may possibly move to 11:00 but we will confirm on Thurday)

Sign up here for your chance at all the usual and also the many special prizes available at every Tee Set monthly medal courtesy of our fine sponsors.

See ya Sunday at Matoa!! … Tee Set

PS Handicaps

Handicaps are of course an evergreen source of conversation that invariably generate rather more heat than light.

To add fuel to the fire, you can find you own USGA handicap (or anyone else’s) and the rounds upon which it is based by visiting this website and putting “TeeSet” and your surname into the obvious places, when all will be revealed. Have fun.

Next up: Imperial Golf Klub, Sunday 24th August

Imperial Gold ClubSomething of a treat in store for Tee Setters on Sunday as a reward for good behaviour last weekend, the delights of the top-class Imperial Golf Klub with a “K”.

Located in the Lippo Karawaci development just a few minutes off the Merak Tol, it is easy enough to get to but here it is on Google Maps.

Interesting, not overlong par 72 course with first class course maintenance, a fine and very cosy clubhouse, excellent changing facilities and, perhaps not least, some rather cute caddies are all harbingers of a fine day out for Tee Setters upon their first ever visit to Imperial. TEE OFF NOW 11:47 – CHANGE

If you haven’t already then make sure you sign up here by 4pm on Friday as we have to provide the club with a player list that evening.

Confirmation messsageA few complaints from Tee Setters telling us that they have registered in the usual place only to find that they are not registered on the Tee Set list.

After thousands of successful registrations we have some doubts about this, however here is what to do to make sure you are indeed registered..

After completing the “Yes I’m Playing!” form on the web site you will, a second or more later, depending on the speed of your internet connection, get an on-screen message like the one you see to the left, confirming that you have successfully registered with the web site.

If you don’t get the on-screen message then you are indeed not registered and must try again until you do.

See ya, Sunday! … Tee Set

PS If you have young daughter, 3-7 who you a looking to get started in the game then you could do worse than check out the Classifieds today..

Pangkalan Jati, Sunday 17th August 2014

Les Girls

Some of the girls who keep the home fires burning on Tee Set Sundays

The Day

The Old Lady of Pangkalan Jati put on her best clothes and sexiest war-paint today for the return of her former lover, the Tee Set – and defied the passing of the years to provide us with a treat to behold on a day of blue skies and glorious sunshine.

A great turnout of 47 Tee Setters were there to re-acquaint themselves with the lover they jilted all those years ago – and were to be rewarded with the Old Lady in perhaps as fine a condition as we have ever seen her.

Not sure if it was the Fatmawati market or a failure to notice the revised 10.30 Tee time but many were late which kept the Tee Set committee and scoring panel (Brenda) quite busy grouping up as tee time fast approached and then passed.

Play was a little extended at around five hours for most, with the starter up to his old tricks – and a new one, inserting three groups at the 12th ahead of the President’s group. It hardly goes without saying that the “inserter” was rewarded with a tip of exactly nothing for his “efforts” on the day.

Old hands managed to navigate the Fatmawati market with some success though the Newcomers were to take their first Unit of Fatmawati 101. Strong suspicions that a couple of them were in fact very, very long-term Welcome Backs from 2011 and perhaps much earlier, so long ago in fact that the system didn’t recognise them. Andrew Steele had not played Tee Set since 2003 which would have to be a new record by some way. Muddy also a long-term welcome back but he’s been thrown into the new comers group to balance the photos.

A big Tee Set welcome to them all in any event!

PJ Newcomer montage

A healthy 6 Newomers today – making 130 so far this year!

Welcome Backs

Dress senseGiven the size of the field, just 9 Welcome Backs was rather modest compared to what might be expected while the pack was headed by Geoff “Mad Dog” Thompson at 20 weeks and Lucas “I’m a slave to fashion” Sheard at 18, with Lucas using his return to demonstrate that a complete lack of dress sense is no barrier to playing decent golf.

Nice shirt though, Lucas.

Our fashion leader also took money on hole #3 with first sandy and if he plays again next Sunday he can claim his prize.

We are looking forward to the imminent return from the UK of our star 1 handicapper, Sam Westen, not just because he’s a key member of the Interleague match play team but because we need someone to stop the rampaging Simon Reynolds from winning another low gross.

Jiro missed out wearing the tutu for a red tee box indiscretion but more than made up for it by contributing a wonderful sample of one of the best sake drops coming out of Japan. Perfect for the BBQ that lay ahead.

For most of those who played it was then off to Kemang for the Presidential BBQ at Peter Reichlmeier’s place, an occasion which offered a great opportunity to socialise and have some fun with fellow Tee Setters, their too little seen partners, children and sundry others.

Mike Garwood lent us his barbie so we had dual barbie action to feed the hungry multitude with Barry Poulter and Peter Reichlmeier starring on the coals.

Thanks to Dhita and Lis for preparing the salads, the venue and the make up for the gals!

Served up were some sensational steaks and snags (that’s sausages for you non-Aussies) from Monthly Medal Sponsor Slaneys Meats, Mike Garwood’s delicious fiery potato and meat dish, while another Monthly Medal sponsor, Santi’s Premium Pies, brought along a dozen of their own taste bombs including the newly introduced, and already best-selling, Beef Curry pie.

No way every week

You want one every week? … you must be joking, mate!

To wash it all down was what appeared to be an infinite supply of Anker and Bintang and a somewhat less infinite, but still very substantial, supply of perhaps the finest Margaritas ever to have found their way to Jakarta. Hic (Ed.).

Cocktail mixer Jamal cut his teeth in the day’s of Smittys’ Texas B-B-Q once located on Jl Warung Buncit – and has been living off this talent ever since.

Many thanks to all who contributed to ensuring a fantastic evening was had by all, not least the President for making his great party house available to Tee Set yet again. We should have them every quarter was the consensus. More photos of the day, and of course the evening, can be found in the usual place.

The Play

Prizes

Bush Jnr grabs the money

Skirt timeA first time Low Net Winner in Peter Bush with a relatively high 70, though he was to be immediately relieved of his winnings by what is obviously a very fast learning son.

Third Low Gross win in a row for Simon Reynolds, also with a relatively modest score, 82 off the stick in his case; he is going to have to start declaring his Tee Set winnings for tax purposes.

With Sam not due back until the end of the month is there anyone else who can beat him?

Mixed day for Jaco Zaayman who nicely balance his Most Improved financially with a skirt and Most Strokes – great stuff Jaco!!

Boobies

A reasonable haul of skirts from a course that does not hugely favour the ladies with just 6 players contributing to Tee Set funds – though with only three of them brave enough to show up for the photo, and Suermondt showing off the results of his recent and expensive breast enhancement operation in Bangkok to good effect.

Fuller results by player can be found here.

2014 Matchplay Championship

Two results from today with Neil Mullins seeing off Cucu by 5 and 3 while Mike Garwood got closer but still went down to the higher handicapped and Low Net winner, Peter Bush, by 3 and 1. An excellent day for Bushy then, little wonder he had the broadest smile to be found at the BBQ all evening!

Next Up

Unless we are dreaming, for the first time ever, next Sunday sees Tee Set at Imperial Golf Klub out on the western flatlands off the Merak Tol. While located in those flatlands, the course itself is living proof of what a few bulldozers can do to bring more interest to a course in such a featureless location.

An excellent course and facilities to match, this is most certainly not one to miss, especially as Green Fees including cart are a very reasonable 650,000 for such a great course – though with a start time a little later than we prefer of 12:37.

Sign up here as usual, we need to give the course a player list no later than Friday evening.

See ya at Imperial! … Tee Set

Next up: Pangkalan Jati, Sunday 17th August 2014

Pangkalan jatiUp next of course is Pangkalan Jati, our home base for years before new management decided that Tee Set should go on the road as we do until this day, followed of course by the infamous Tee Set BBQ.

By common consent PJ, as it is almost universally known to Jakarta golfers, is a very decent course having improved some in the last few years, provides a rich variety of challenges and indeed very reasonable green fees at 460,000 roops including a cart – and an even more reasonable 360,000 for those using Shanks’s pony.

Tee off is now firm at an unusually early 1o:30 so that it still light for the relatively short journey to the Tee Set BBQ at the President’s place in Kemang. Please make sure you get there no later than 10 so that Senior Management can get the flights together under a little less pressure than usual.

We have 40 slots reserved and they are going fast so get yourself registered for what should be a great day of fun in the sun.

Peter will be distributing maps for getting to his place after the round for what will be the usual well provisioned BBQ in every sense with Tee Set digging deep and rumour having it that asides from all the usual, your scribe’s favourite tincture, Margarita, will be on offer. One thing not on offer though is wine, so you might wish to bring along. We have glasses.

Confirmation messsageA few complaints from Tee Setters telling us that they have registered in the usual place only to find that they are not registered on the Tee Set list.

After thousands of successful registrations we are rather dubious about this however.

After you register on the web site you will, depending on the speed of your internet connection, get a message like the one you see to the left, confirming that you have successfully registered with the web site. If you don’t get the message then you are indeed not registered and must try again until you do.

Playing stats thru RainbowIt’s been a while since you got any stats to bore you so here are some on round totals this year by player and in summary form.

You will see that the Immediate Past President of Lots of Stuff has increased his lead to five rounds over a second place Mel Meeds who advance as a result of Sam Westen dropping back into the back somewhat following a lean run of attendance in recent months.

Sam is reported to be itching to get back after an enforced absence in sunny London and should be back in good time for our next Interleague match up.

See ya at PJ!! … Tee Set

Rainbow Hills, Sunday 10th August, 2014

RH Skirts

The Day

The temptation to sample Rainbow Hills magnificent charms today was more than our better judgment was able to overcome – and this despite the potential for traffic chaos on the Jagorawi toll with the return of the second wave of Mudik pilgrims.

It has been some time since Tee Set played fast greens and the Rainbow greens were just brutal and, to compound the fun, pin placements could only be described as sadistic with more than a hint of luck needed to stick one close.

Playing the course was a fantastic experience from every point of view, however, the more than 2 hour crawl home in the Jagorawi Tol traffic was to temper the afterglow somewhat. Thanks to Wina for organizing such a great deal – keep it up!! We need to return to this course again before the end of the year.

A very decent turnout of 45 Tee Setters with the return of many expats from the Idul Fitri break and traffic on the way to the course in the morning was in fact bearable though the opening of Jungle World or whatever made for long queues and a wait to pay a dollar at the Sentul exit toll booth

RH Welcome Backs

More Newcomers today than we have seen for some time with a total of six newly minted Tee Setters joining us for the first time. Welcome to them all, enjoy your golf with Tee Set.

A heavy preponderance of Welcome Backs at fully 18 of them, with joint top position occupied by the Kilners, Mark and RJ, father and son.

The Kilners did not actually finish as they were last to start and were the only ones to unluckily find some unseasonal end of day lightning. As they had both played 18 at Palm Hills immediately before their round we can forgive them their tardiness!!

Notable returnees also in John Suermondt and Bob Fleischmann at 19 and 16 weeks respectively, the former after a three-month motor-home tour of Europe, amusing stories of which were to be shared to all unwise enough to come within ten meters of him during the day!

Brenda was on family duties today so web master and part-time scribe Keith Miller stepped up to the plate to record the scores and take everyone’s registration money.

RH DanThe pressure was clearly telling  however and, without Santi in the wings as goalkeeper, the potential for error was always there – and the Immediate Past President of Lots of Stuff has been duly tasked with recovering our hero’s clubs that somehow got left behind in the fog of confusion that generally surrounds him.

Finally, it was Dan Richards last game with Tee Set after almost exactly a year and 21 rounds when some of the group’s oldest and (un?) wisest birds made sure he had a suitably liquid send off by gaming the traffic in not leaving Sentul until after 8pm. Come back visit us some time, Dan!

The Play

RH Skills

JelenaNow, can I make this?A fine net 7 under par 65 was enough to see Leona take Low Net on a day when a total of 8 Tee Setters were to laugh in the face of their handicap. Well done Leona.

Another Low Gross win for Simon Reynolds who really has improved significantly this year, with Newcomer Tim Knight coming in second with a commendable 80.

Another Newcomer, Mark Baker, failed to fully appreciate just how difficult the greens were and took Low Putts with a fine 29 blows with the flat one while David Baglivo made sure that the trickiness of those greens were not to be an issue on his first hole as played by sticking it to within 1cm for a tap in and taking 1st Birdie.

In the other minor prizes Craig Ewers took 1st Sandy on 3, the President Most Improved with an improvement of 11 while Jan Jelinek joined wife Leona in the winners circle with 1st Par for a high handicapper on his third hole played.

RH Boobies

RH GrumpyA healthy crop of six skirts and something of a surprise winner of Monster Putter with Grumpy Pirate Graham McGeady, pictured here and clearly getting a lot of sympathy from Pulpy Beverage, taking the honours on his own with 42 putts.

Newcomer Craig Edwatds and Hossam shared the pleasure of Most Strokes with 11 – to the relief of a whole bunch behind them on 10 strokes it has to be said,

More detailed results of the day can be found here and some more photos of the day can be found on the Tee Set Gallery as ever.

2014 Tee Set Match Play Championship

Continued good progress seen today with three results from the matchplay where David Baglivo got a hot start with his birdie on the 1st though John Suermondt shot close to handicap and it took Dave another 15 holes to finally put John away 3 and 2.

Peter Reichlmeier and Mark Bekkering contested the seconf match play with Peter prevailing on the last green after being behind for most of the game, while Bruscve Hector saw off Chazz Hassig 4 and 3 in Chazz’s first game since return from a long leave – should have got a few games in first Chzz!!

Next Week

A return after three months to former Tee Set HQ at Pangkalan Jati next week with a tee time of 11:00 and green fees of just 460,00 including cart – or just 360,000 if walking.

Well known to most Tee Setters, PJ is a decent course with attractive fees and a much wider variety of challenges than can be found on most course hereabouts.

The event will be followed by the long anticipated Presidential BBQ at Peter’s house down Kemang way – with partners very welcome of course, when you will have the chance of some decent and suitably burned meat, beers and Margaritas as well as the incomparable companionship of your fellow Tee setters.

The BBQ may also be your last opportunity to wish Peter well on his impending nuptials!

Maps on how to get to the BBQ venue will be available at PJ.

Sign up as usual to reserve your place – and let us know if you intend joining in the fun at the Presidential Barbie at the same time.

See ya’ll at PJ …… Tee Set

RH Staff 1

Some great staff at Rainbow – on and off the course. We’ll be back.

Next up: Rainbow Hills, Sunday 10th August 2014

RH ClubhouseIt may not have escaped your attention that there has been even more confusion than usual around Tee Set Towers this week, what with a change of venue, a very late newsletter post and even then it was minus detailed statistics.

We did send an e-mail to all who had registered for Bogor Raya telling them of the change of venue to the equally lovely Rainbow Hills but still imagine we will get an irate e-mail from someone on Monday morning telling us that they went to Bogor Raya and Tee Set were not to be found.

So, as they say in all the best legal letters, for the avoidance of all doubt, we indeed play Rainbow Hills on Sunday with a 12:30 tee off time – though with every chance of getting away early so don’t be late.

A very reasonable charge of just 600,000 roops including shared cart for this top 5 course (thanks Wina!!), so don’t miss it and, if you not one of the 34 Tee Setters signed up already, let us know you are playing as usual.

See yah Sunday! … Tee Set

PS We guess that arguments over handicaps will never disappear, however, you can now find out exactly how we got your handicap wrong in future by visiting this site and putting in “Teeset” as the Club ID and your own surname as the Member Name.

Halim II, Sunday 3rd August 2014

HD Space ShuttleThe Day

No prizes for guessing where we played Sunday, the Halim Dua course out on the eastern fringes where a healthy (in numerical terms at least) 32 Tee Setters were to show despite many still taking advantage of the Lebaran break – and despite the massive 45 minute deluge that hit in the middle of what is laughingly known hereabouts as the “dry season”.

HD Rain shot

We have not played this course as Tee Set since 2011 and, despite that rain, it received a generally favourable rating from those who played (and finished).

pretty fair course and with the generously wide fairways more than making up for the massive tree formations lined up along most fairways.

Ice boxes full of beer and other beverages located on nearly every tee box certainly added to the course’s appeal.

The greens were very grainy and slow, painfully slow in a number of instances – and the caddies while generally of the old, gnarled and grumpy male variety, did have a few cuties amongst their number.

It will not be 3 years until we return

Johan Stenmark

Johan Stenmark

Just one Newcomer this week in Johan Stenmark while, leading the Welcome Backs list was David Baglivo at 47 weeks. He promises not to be such a bad boy ever again 🙂

The journey to the course in the morning was an absolute delight although, upon arrival, some were told by the starter that Tee Set had no booking.

Moral of the story is that it is ill-advised to ask the starter for any useful information.

The booking was in fact confirmed by three different Tee Set callers during the week, once again proving that the committee is on the ball, contrary to a number of scurrilous rumours.

HD What happened to the pulpy, Pulpy

The morning after the night before ……

All the Usual Suspects turned up at Cecelia’s Cafe in Kemang for the car sharing offered by the Former President of Nearly Everything with his taxi driver hat on.

Those there were to be treated to the sight of George Beverage, following an extended evening in the Blok, throwing back a couple of cans of Schweppes soda water – though half a packet of fags later George was seen to be back on the beer.

What happened to the pulpy, Pulpy?

Ramadan/Lebaran should last 52 weeks of the year in the Tee Set’s humble opinion.

The Play

HD Simon wins gross again

Simon Reynolds continued his hot streak and managed to get back his money back via low gross, however, the big winner of the day was Craig Ewers who shot a staggering 9 shots under his handicap to take low net. It should be said that Craig has a strong affinity with Halim 2, being the first course he played upon arrival in Indonesia.

Despite the greens getting a bum rap from some, others found the greens to their liking with Graham McGeady, Nuri Puzey and Chris Smith all finishing on 29 putts.

Mike Webb took money for first birdie while Jaco Zaayman had a mixed day with winning most improved but losing out on the most strokes penalty.

For any remaining doubters, Ivan Byriel once again proved that “first par over 30” is his for the taking and don’t anybody else even attempt to take the title away from him. So long as he can manage to keep that damned handicap up at 30 or over of course.

HD SkirtsA rather disappointing skirt count this week, for the Treasurer anyway, of just one – Newcomer Johan Stenmark, who was to cut a remarkable figure as the skirt weaved its customary magic in making a UFO grow out of his head and a bottle of Anker out of his mouth.

Well done Johan, you are our sort of guy.

2014 Tee set Matchplay Championship

Only one Matchplay result to report this week, a really tight one going right down to the wire with David Baglivo prevailing over Nuri Puzey 1 up on the last.

Presidential BBQ

Peter Reichlmeier’s somewhat delayed Tee Set BBQ has now been rearranged for 17th August, starting just as soon as we get back to his place just up the hill from Amigos, Kemang after the round at Pangkalan Jati on that day.

Really no worries if the Prez ets called away on business again or indeed for nuptials related duties, as the VPOMT has the keys to his house and drinks cabinet – and knows how to operate the gas BBQ. Nice one, Ric.

Next Week

The schedule says Bogor Raya which was a bit of a pipe dream really. The BR management finally offered us a late start and a fee of Rp 950K, both well out of our comfort zone for a course so far away. Happily Wina, bless her little cotton socks, came up with a great substitute, the excellent Rainbow Hills – and at a never to be repeated Rp600K all up. Well done, her.

Tee time is 12:30 but, since the course will be quiet, a 12PM tee time is very likely doable so come early. The course is in immaculate condition and, trust us, the restaurant girls add significant colour to the 19th hole experience. Whatever you do, don’t miss this event, unless of course you have more important things to do such as getting married.

So, sign up for what should be a great day in the sun and uninterrupted by rain on a most delightful course, lovely clubhouse and fabulous facilities.

See ya Sunday …. Tee Set

PS no detailed results this week so don’t complain, get a life 🙂

Next up: Halim II, Sunday 3rd August 2014

Halim 2Our destination on Sunday, Halim II, is an old-fashioned tree-lined fairways affair for which the above photo will give you a pretty good feel. The fairways are reasonably wide, however, straying either side of the tree line will give you valuable chipping back sideways practice the great majority of the time 😦

Opinion has it that our last visit there was in 2011, ie before proper records began, but it’s a very decent course and possessed of equally decent green fees etc at 543,000 roops walking – and an extra 100,000 if you are sharing a cart. Tee time will be 11:00.

If you are up for the challenge, then sign up here as usual. It is even more important this week than usual that you sign up, as under-declaring the number of our players in advance leads to financial consequences. And not good ones.

Report of the recent Interleague doings is out rather faster than usual and you can take them all in here.

See ya Sunday, and remember to bring your chipper and tree wood ….. Tee Set

FlaskPS Somebody left this very nice Thermos Flask behind at Palm Hills some weeks ago.

Contact newly returned from extended leave Santi Miller to reclaim it, but you will have to buy 6 of her sensational new Curry Pies as her (and your) reward 😉

PPS Around 10 last night the web site clocked up its 50,000th page viewing since it was started back in December 2011, representing a daily average of a little less than 90.

As we have said before these are numbers that are unlikely to cause sleepless night to the owners of Facebook or Google but are pretty respectable for us given our average weekly playing attendance of around 40.

And it is not just from Jakarta that we get visitors ….

Senayan National, Sunday 27th July 2014

The Last Supper - Senayan Style

The Last Supper – Senayan Style

The Day

Twenty seven players arrived at the Senayan course in quick time via streets quite devoid of cars and bikes due to half of the city’s Moslem population having already headed back to their ancestral villages for Lebaran.

The course was a little soggy underfoot due to heavy overnight rain but soft receptive greens more than compensated for the lack of roll on the fairways. A cloud-free baking hot day helped speed up the greens as the day wore on but contributed to a lot of very weary and dehydrated bodies climbing the club house stairs to the 19th hole.

SN NewcomersA healthy 3 Newcomers to report this week so a warm Tee Set welcome to all of Kai Chee Wan, Martin Blobner and Paul Chidwick. Enjoy your golf with Tee Set, guys.

Manoj Mishra headed the Welcome Backs list at 25 weeks which puts him on schedule for his usual wife induced 2 rounds a year with Tee Set – and with his only competition being James Tan at 19 weeks.

Seventh installment of the monthly medal for 2014 and the last to be held at the quaint inner city Senayan course.  Although the course has proved very popular with our members, the course’s management decided to kill the goose and go for an increase green fees by a whopping 60% and slip the tee time from 11AM to a totally unacceptable 1PM.

At the end both revisions turned out to be non negotiable but the final nail in the coffin was the Rp2.6M fine levied for not reaching our minimum player quota of 40 on the one Sunday of the year when many of our regular players were out-of-town for the Idul Fitri holidays. Senayan National ….. thanks for the memories.

The schedule for the rest of the year, including the new Monthly Medal venue is close to being pinned down and will be published next week. Inschallah.

Craig Ewers and Ric Wymer ended the day with 41 Stableford points and a Low Net of 64 apiece with the Monthly Medal Stableford VDoor voucher going to Ric on a countback and Craig taking the Slaneys Meat voucher for Low Net.

Taking Low Gross and a voucher from Cecelia’s Cafe by a full 6 shots was a Simon Reynolds in a rich vein of form with 73 off the stick while Neil Mullins’ 25 putts wiped out the opposition and earned him 6 of Santi’s Premium Pies finest for Low Putts. Santi reminds us that she is back from her holidays in the Mediterranean sun and taking orders again!

WinaManoj has clearly not let the grass grow under his feet during a 25 week absence as he made a birdie on only his second hole as played and went on to hit the ball 253 meters to take Long Drive – while the President of a Couple of Very Important Things put it to within 1.3 metres to earn himself a red one for Nearest to the Pin.

In the other minor prizes, Alan Fenwick made par at the 8th to take the HC>=30 award, Wina took the money at the 3rd with 1st Sandy while Tom Grace took advantage of being allocated the right hole to tee off from to take Most Improved with a 9 shot improvement on his back nine.

SN BoobySN SkirtsThurmond, Giovanni and newcomer Martin Blobner represented something of a thin return for the treasurer on the skirts front.

Only Martin was brave enough to hang around long enough to be pictured with the skirt itself. Well done, Martin!

Worth noting that Ric Wymer’s net 64 was despite 38 putts; hitting greens in regulation seldom improves your putting statistics.

Fuller, player by player results can be found here while more photos from the day can be found on the Tee Set Gallery.

2014 Tee Set Matchplay Championship

Craig Ewers chose an excellent day to shoot his net 64 as that fine score was also to see him home to a 3 and 1 victory over another Chris, Chris Murchison, who played to his handicap to no avail!

Our current understanding of the state of play in the two brackets can be found here.

Next Up

It is some years since Tee Set has darkened the door of Halim II, however, the Immediate Past President of Most Things reckons it is fair dinkum and we will be there on Sunday next for an 11:30 tee off and green fees of 500,000 – both to be confirmed in our second post of the week.

Located next to Royale Jakarta off the Jagorawi Tol, Halim II is easy enough to get to, absent bad luck with the timing of the hordes returning from their annual trip to the kampung.

Let us know if you are playing here.

See ya Sunday! … Tee Set
