Kedaton, Sunday 2nd February

Over a third of the field succumbed to the cross dressing urge 🙂

The Day

An early feature of the day was the number of Tee Setters turning up late even by their own standards and, with the starter getting us away early, latecomers had to fit in as best they could, with Mo Maharam being latest of all and required to make a bunch of new Korean friends! Many of the late arrivals were due to the rather complicated exit from the Merak toll, though this can hardly explain Wina’s non-arrival as she knows the course better than most if not all.

Just one Newcomer on the day, one Richard Thistlewood, resident of Mauritius and visiting father-in-law Keith Miller – and making sure that the latter’s retirement peace is disturbed for a week by demanding daily golf during his visit. Welcome to Tee Set, Richard!

Most prominent amongst the Welcome Backs were Manoj Mishra and Mike Taylor. Manoj we have not seen for some 29 weeks and he finally managed to drag himself away from the wife and kids on a Sunday by giving them his credit card and sending them to the local Mall. A very expensive round then, Manoj; come back soon. Mike is of course the man who stole Lisa, the Tee Set’s last but one secretary in a heinous piece of larceny for which he has still not been forgiven by the committee at least. With Lisa stuck in the USA with visa issues and unable to leave the country, Mike bravely came to Jakarta on his own after finishing work in Angola.

BTW how delicious is that? – an Indonesian being worked over by Immigrasi for once rather than we much put-upon boules  🙂

For the fourth week in a row, we were rain affected – but once again dodged the bullet – with play stopped for just 5 minutes or so early on in a round that finished in glorious sunshine. Kedaton

A special mention for Kedaton itself as the day reminded us that it really is a nice (if exceptionally long) course with greens in excellent condition in spite of recent rains and, with lift clean and cheat in operation, it was always possible to find a “dryish” spot within 10 metres of one’s ball on the fairways!

Finally with big bottles at a little over 80,000 a pop, a number of Tee Setters were pining for Pondok Cabe pricing though providing some balance was the very reasonably priced and generally excellent food – with the samosas particularly meritorious and deserving of special mention – best in Jakarta in the view of all those who tried them. Next up: Kedaton, Sunday 2nd February

KedatonHopefully the new month will see a reduction in the astonishing levels of rainfall seen in January.

Interestingly, for our first round in February we will be tackling the course with the highest water to dry land ratio in the whole of Indonesia and perhaps further afield, with water featuring on every one of Kedaton’s eighteen holes, even in a dry season.

It was early September last year when we last played this challenging course, with now departed Steve Wood and the visiting Alex Kushnir taking Low Gross honours – so that achievement will be someone else’s for the taking this time.

The tee time we have been given is 11:30 though, once again there is every chance of getting away a little earlier, so don’t cut your arrival too fine.

Green Fees etc including shared cart are a very reasonable 660,000 or just 550,000 walking.

If you intend playing then, if you haven’t done so already, please register here.

See yah, Sunday!! … Tee Set

Monthly Medal, Pangkalan Jati, Sunday 26th January

Peter waving

The President getting his feet well under the table now after a slow start!!

Despite the absence of both our Pawang Hujan AND the immediate past President of Everything’s lucky black 2011 Tee Set shirt, we were to be graced with a blissfully rain free day at Pangkalan Jati for the first Medal event of the year – and on Australia Day. While some reported a short duration light rain not long after the start, we judge that more likely to have been the spray from the over-enthusiastic opening of cans of Bintang than anything else.

As predicted we were to get the first groups away significantly earlier than the 11:30 we had been allocated and 35 Tee Setters enjoyed perfect conditions, with much in the way of blue skies for most of the round.

Rather slow going on the front 9 but everything eventually sorted itself out and a quick back 9 was the order of the day. The fairways were in pretty good nick though the greens were a little messed up after a busy weekend of golf. Didn’t stop some excellent putting performances as you will see below.

In something of a disturbing development, the Warung  Co-Op on the course was to run out of beer after a couple of hours, however, the clubhouse had plentiful stocks of cold ones to hand.

Many Tee Setters disappeared shortly after prize giving to join Australia day parties and/or watch the Australian Open Men’s Tennis final. The President wishes to express his personal thanks to the English cricket team for losing their final game of the series in Australia on Australia Day, to cap a very fine day of Aussie celebration as you will discover below.

One Newcomer to report in Russ Lecroy, a warm welcome to Russ, we hope you enjoyed your first round with us  – and that you will be back regularly.

The Play

PrizesCongratulations to the USA’s very own Bill Lloyd who hit a first ever hole-in-one during the week!

Get your next one at Tee Set, Bill, we should all be delighted to be able to drink to your good fortune 🙂

Slaneys Butchery Low Net Winner Mo Maharam and the V Door Monthly Medal winner George Bevege.

A man who did produce the goods was Aussie (what else on Australia day) George Bevege who rather swept the board with the most Stableford points to win the V Door Monthly Medal, Low Net and a nearly unbelievably low 24 swipes with the flat blade to take Low Putts – good job the rules forbids us from awarding him more than one prize and winner of the Slaneys Butchery Low Net Award was therefore Mo Maharam

One major prize that was to elude George was Low Gross which is of course the near exclusive preserve of young Sam Westen these days, this time with a 73 off the stick and just 1 over par.

Mo also secured 1st Birdie at the very first hole, the same place that Sofree Abdul claimed 1st Sandy while Most Improved went to John Suermondt with an alarming 12 shot numeric decline on his back nine, admittedly from a very large number on the front.

Jess KindlerClosest to the pin at less than 3 meters goes to David Shenman while Same Westen his a monster of a drive to hit the 300 meter mark for Longest Drive. Such an extraordinary shot that the rules were relaxed to allow him a second prize award.

Who actually received prizes for all the above is loosely related to the above – and subjected in particular to the “spreading the prizes about” rules that are beyond even the computing talents of James Ross to incorporate into our results spreadsheet.

On the booby prize front, Mark Bekkering hardly deserved the Monkey with a rather low winning 39 putts, while a very pleasing 6 Tee Setters found themselves queueing up to pay their 50,000 for failing to reach the red tee during their round. Jess Kindler planned on leaving early and was most insistent on paying his fine and getting his photo taken before leaving – his reward is this photo which rather makes us wonder why!

Fuller, player by player stats here while more photos of  the day can be found here.

2014 Tee Set Matchplay Championship

Yes, it is that time again, time to register for the 2014 Matchplay Championship, where the format will be the same as for the last couple of years, ie a first round which sorts out the players into two brackets and knock out after that leading to the two bracket winners who play off on Tee Set Championship Day in November.

Rules are the same as the 2013 event with the following exceptions:

1) entry is limited to players who have participated in at least 5 tee set events since January 1 2013 or have been tee set members for at least 3 years and

2) deadlines will be strictly enforced and winners decided by a coin flip at the deadline date.

Those rules are intended to ensure that people dedicated to getting their game completed enter the competition – and that a log jam of matches will not have to played in the last 3 weeks as in 2013.

The competition has an entry fee of just 100,000 roops, due upon registration; please make your payment to our Secretary Brenda next time you play Tee Set.

The draw for the first round will be made after play, and before prize giving, on Sunday 22nd February at Sentul Highlands, when names will be randomly picked out of the hat.

Please register to join the competition here:

2014 Schedule

Our Schedule Meister has been busy setting up the 2014 programme over the past few weeks and the first half year is now pretty much set up. From the schedule, you will see that we continue to go for a rich variety of courses to keep your interest, some new to us like Sentul Highlands but also with many of the old favourites – and all fitting around the backbone of the Monthly Medal at the splendid Senayan. Many thanks to Wina for all that hard work!

Next Sunday

Kedaton, out on the Merak Tol, is our next port of call, a delightful course where water is ubiquitous and really not for you if you have even the mildest hydrophobia. The recent floods had their effect on the course there last  week with a rubber dinghy needed to complete a round.

Hopefully, the abatement in rain intensity we have seen over the last few days will continue and we will execute as planned, however, Kedaton regular Wina is keeping a close eye on things and we will advise if it looks like going pear shaped and need to tell you of a Plan B.

An 11:30 start from two tee boxes, green fees etc including shared cart of 660,000 roops or 550,000 walking – sign up here as usual if you plan on joining in the fun.

See yah Sunday! … Tee Set

Next up: Monthly Medal, Pangkalan Jati, Sunday 26th January

Pangkalan jatiSo, the first Monthly Medal of the new year, and we are back to our old base at Pangkalan Jati in a one off exercise before moving on to Senayan International for the February and thereafter Medal events.

In a welcome development, the Medal will in future consist of two parts, the V Door Monthly Stableford Medal and the Slaney’s Butchery Net Medal with great prizes from each to spice up our Sundays! We have an extensive list of generous sponsors supporting our activities and it is great to have the V Door and Slaneys Butchery amongst their number.

PJ is of course like a comfortable old pair of slippers, you know they have seen better times, are a little outdated and showing signs of wear but, hell, they are so comfortable and familiar you could never throw them away. Only a wife could do that.

The last time we played in our slippers saw some fine scoring from Sam, Mark Blake and James Ross but the highlight was surely the very rich, Treasurer pleasing, crop of 9 skirts; we captured seven of them for posterity.

skirts1

Perhaps not unrelated to that rich crop of skirts is the difference in distance between the reds and blues at PJ, something which comes in at a staggering 1,064 metres. Nice one, Ladies.

The tee time we have been give is 11:30 as usual, though with every chance of getting away a little earlier, so don’t cut it too fine, Wina.

Green Fees etc including shared cart are a wallet-lite 565,000 or just 375,000 walking. If you intend playing then, if you haven’t done so already, please register here.

See yah, Sunday!! … Tee Set

PS for those of you who like to play twice at weekends, please know that the DOGs and HOGS are playing Senayan International on Saturday and would welcome your support in a day dedicated to raising money for the HOGS own support of Indonesian kids unfortunate enough to have been born with cleft lip and/or palate. This is a truly life transforming activity and deserves your support. Please register here if you can play.

Tee Set will be holding a similar day in support of the HOGS in March on a date to be confirmed,

Pondok Cabe, Sunday 19th January

Pondok Cabe rain

A triumph of hope over recent experience …. everyone who started, finished 🙂

With large parts of Jakarta under water it seemed a little heartless to be worrying about whether Pondok Cabe was playable, however, an early call to the starter confirmed all was good to go, though carts were off the menu unfortunately, leading to the withdrawal of one or two veteran Tee Setters.

The general weather conditions were also to put off a number of the registered while floods took out a couple more, though a surprising number of walk-ons nearly balanced them out and 25 Tee setters were to take breakfast in the dry before the the Starter started getting us away nearly an hour early from one tee box. The rain more or less immediately started again for most of us and continued at a level sufficient to discomfort but not stop us, before finally easing and then stopping completely after an hour or so.

Two Newcomers on the day, so a warm and wet Tee Set welcome to Kieran Ranchod and Martin Skoda; come back again guys, it don’t always rain at Tee Set. Martin came prepared for action with a set of clubs recently purchased from Jl. Surabaya for Rp400K. Considering the advances in golf technology over the last decade or two these clubs should have be consigned to a museum, however, he thought them a real bargain right up until he realised the set had no woods or even a putter!!!

5 Welcome Backs on the day, most notably father and son act, Mark and RJ Kilner, and a John Suermondt freshly returned from Oz and raring to go after the longest Xmas break we have on record. That long break was to be paid for, however, with a trapped nerve or some such bringing about retirement half way for John – and a two hour session on the always welcoming Pondok Cabe pijat couch – while the rest of us enjoyed the excellent playing conditions to be found on the back 9.

The Play

In the absence of our Pawang Hujan, the Grumpy Pirate’s duties were passed to the immediate past President of Everything who wore his lucky black 2011 Tee Set shirt. To this day it has never had a soaking but it is getting a bit on the nose so it might be time for a wash. No matter, the rain stopped after 4 or 5 holes played, so mission accomplished.

Prizes

RJ Kilner - MIRegular winners were at it again with Sam Westen taking Low Gross with a 75, Santi Miller had First Birdie on hole 5 while that master of fringe play, Geoff Thwaites, was on Low Putts with 27.  Mo went for an early “shower” for the second week in a row thus missing out on picking up his winnings for a Low Net 70.

The par 3 17th is virtually surrounded by sand and Dave Shenman somehow used it to advantage to take 1st (and only) Sandy Par on the day. RJ cranked up his swing back to a blur on the back 9 and improved by 10 strokes. Might be a message there RJ.

Martin SaodaThe putter that Newcomer Martin Skoda borrowed was not to be to his liking and contributed to his total of 45 putts and the Monster Putter award. Mel Meeds was observed to breathe an audible sigh of relief when he found out he had dodged the bullet coming his way as he had carded 40 putts for the second week in a row. Another audible sigh of relief came from our monkey who is still nursing a black eye from Mel’s over enthusiastic attentions the previous week.

A skirt for Mitch

While sharing his flight solely with his nearest and dearest, Mitch Wiener still reported his skirt. Damian Greenwood was the only other skirt and despite leaving very early, insisted on paying his fine and having his cross dressing photo taken.

Well done to both, but only Mitch gets the photo on this occasion; don’t worry Damian, we will get you again!!

Click to see detailed player results or more photos of the day.

Scorecards

Tee Set ScorecardThe trial of the new scorecards worked pretty well and, most importantly, allowed more efficient data entry to the handicap system – and getting down to prize giving quicker than would otherwise have been the case.

Quality of card completion was rather better than previously but, even so, there were instances of failing to add up the strokes, putts and 18 hole totals, deducting handicap from gross score, entering the starting hole, completing Most Strokes and marking Skirts, yes or no!!

The other thing that needs improving is our communications, we failed to tell you that you and your playing partner should swap cards and mark each other’s scorecards rather than your own!!

With the rainy conditions and cheap paper there was one other challenge as well – but we plan to fix that with heavier gauge and more waterproof printing material next time – when we hope for better things  🙂

Next Sunday

Yes, it’s the last Sunday of the month and therefore the first Monthly Medal of 2014 and, for January only, this will be at Pangkalan Jati. Some minor changes here with the event renamed the V Door Monthly Medal” – and with a new award for Low Net “The Slaneys Low Net Award“. But remember that a player cannot win more than one award!

Winner of the Stableford based Monthly Medal will receive a 500,000 Rupiah voucher to be used at the eponymous and very popular Kemang bar. The “Slaneys  Low Net Award” winner will get a 500,000 voucher to be spent on the very fine products of Slaneys Butchery.

As ever at PJ, Tee Off will be from 1 & 10 at 11:30, or maybe a little earlier, and with green fees of 565,000 roops, or just 375,000 if walking another very walkable course. Get yourself registered for PJ here for another shot at your 15 minutes of fame.

Also of particular note for 28% of our membership is that Sunday is Australia Day. That will add to the fun and doubtless the rest of us will have to put up with some high jinks – and more talk of Aussie cricketing prowess no doubt 😦

See yah Sunday! … Tee Set

Tee Set no longer homeless!!

Just aim for the G in Sogo, Santi ..

There goes the hood ….

As most Tee Setters will be aware, we have been looking for a new home, a home we would occupy once a month, a home where we would play our monthly medal. Our reasons for moving are manifest, near universally accepted and do not bear repetition here.

The “pindah rumah” has not been without its challenges, however, and a number of courses have been in the frame, with earlier candidates falling down after negotiations, either on the question of price, reasonably important, or timing, even more important.

Pleased to advise Tee Setters now that the deal is sealed with Senayan, a top class course in the centre of the city, a course that is readily and conveniently accessible to many, on a Sunday anyway, and whose management have agreed to the following attractive terms:

Green Fees: 500,000

Shared Cart: 250,000 per pax

Timing: 11:00 from 2 Tee Boxes

Bintang can (course or bar): 36,000 roops

In truth, if we had known this deal, or anything remotely like it, had been available a couple of months ago, then we would have saved a lot of time and effort. Many thanks to the DOGS for beating the path!!

The course has an important competition going on next Sunday,  so we will play the first Monthly Medal of 2014 at the tried and true Pangkalan Jati; after that we have a contractual commitment to Senayan for the last Sunday in every month through July and, assuming all goes well, we will extend that to the end of 2014 nearer the time.

Flooding, Pondok Cabe and score cards

Jakarta FloodsThose who intend playing with us at Pondok Cabe, and indeed everyone living in Flood Centre Jakarta should be aware of the following received from a couple of Tee Setters; while Jakarta is also a rumour centre par excellence, it does have the ring of truth to it after the big rains this week:

Jakarta will be an ocean by tomorrow around 4AM. It’s predicted that most of Jakarta area will be flooded.

Starting tonight 8PM Katulampa water gate will be opened  because it can no longer hold the flood, as well as Tangerang water gate.

The water gate officers have been giving warning sirens 3 times which means 7 doors are opened. If the rain doesnt stop tonight, 2 other doors would be opened.

All citizens need to be aware and alert to anticipate the flood. Please send this message to as many citizen as possible.

Thank you.

Info : BMKG. Standby rescue please contact Marsipala    (Tarumanegara University rescue team) : 08161437001 , 085782136969 , 081808598136, Call Center Search And Rescue (SAR) Jakarta tlp : 5501512 and 550511115507976 . All citizen should remain calm, yet aware of this possibilities to anticipate the flood.

While paling into insignificance with other implications, we will be keeping an eye on the situation and advise if there is any change in arrangements for Pondok Cabe should become needed.

In the event that we do play Pondok Cabe then we will be using our own scorecards for the first time. These will be provided to all who register by 2pm today, so if you intend playing then do register now if you haven’t already. The new scorecard looks like this.

Tee Set ScorecardIn case you were wondering why, then we might get you to put the results into our Handicap System and try figure out which of three “Petes” is which from the mixed pile of cards in front of you. Or work out Most Strokes etc for 50 players on a Sunday afternoon, many of them anxious for the prize giving and getting home. Hopefully the scorecard is crystal clear, if not then ask one of the old hands.

See yah, Sunday!! … Tee Set

Next up: Pondok Cabe, Sunday 19th January

Pondok cabeBack to the bread and butter that is Pondok Cabe this week after the cordon bleau offerings of Senayan and indeed Modern.

The last time we were there, Chis Smith found his driver head separated from its shaft by a rather greater distance than is usual at one point; which reminds us to ask him if he ever got it welded back on.

Second division for sure but still a very a decent course – and PC also offers rates that reflect a certain uncharacteristic benevolence on the part of its owner, the Indonesian National Oil Company, Pertamina. Just 375,000 roops if you take Shank’s Pony on an eminently walkable course – or 450,00 including shared cart.

A very small proportion of our number might also be interested to know that PC offers the cheapest big bottles of Anker and Bintang to be found on a Jakarta golf course these days.

We are always given an 11:30 tee off at PC but more often than not get away a little earlier. We will be providing personal scorecards this week for the first time, but only if you register by Friday lunchtime, so don’t leave it until the last minute this week or into the future – unless you really have to that is.

One of our minor sponsors has put up a list of his current offerings in the first entry to trouble the classifieds section in a while. Walaka Boats, in the person of Stephane Mauger,  offers a wide variety of fine foodstuffs and wines that you will find nowhere else in Indonesia – and delivered reliably to your door in Jakarta.

Useful reminder perhaps that any Tee Setter or Sponsor can avail themselves of the classifieds section free of charge, just drop us a line, maybe with a photo or two.

Finally, we put in a reference to a small tutorial from regular Tee Setter Ken Runyon in our last post – and then cleverly failed to put in a link so, find it here now, it’s well worth reading if you would like to achieve a higher success rate at getting out of bunkers.

See yah, Sunday!! … Tee Set

Monkey abusePS Mel Meeds is on his first and final warning for “Monkey Abuse”.

Mel is a pretty reasonable putter, averaging 32.72 over the last couple of years, but rather lost the plot at Senayan with an inspired 40 blows with the blade to take the coveted Monster Putter Monkey for the first time ever – and then, in a shameful display of ire, landed a similar number of blows to the cute and totally innocent Monkey itself.

Poor show, Mel!!

Senayan National, Sunday 12th January

A photo that few ever expected to see - Sam Westen wearing the skirt and wig :-)

A photo that few ever expected to see – Sam Westen wearing the skirt and wig, with friends ..

The Day

Our first event appearance at the fine Senayan course was to be deeply affected by rain, heavy rain before we started, rain as we played and rain after a couple of breaks before it finally stopped a little before halfway, with the stopping coinciding most remarkably with the departure from the course of our thoroughly wet Pawang Hujan, Graham McGready!

Graham was not alone of course, with 9 Tee Setters giving the round up as a bad deal. The 27 who remained were to be rewarded for their fortitude with splendid weather conditions  on the back 9 – and course conditions which demonstrated stunning powers of recovery from fairways that had not long previously seemed more akin to rivers than anything else.

the starter gets us away for the second time ..

.. the starter gets us away for the second time with the encouragement of the President..

While possessed of a par of 69 as a result of land constraints in the middle of the city which bring about a rather richer diet of par threes than might be preferred, Senayan is a stunning course which actually benefits visually from the many skyscrapers that surround it, though it is best to avoid looking too closely at the river that runs through it. Pretty much all agreed that this should be a regular Tee Set venue – especially if they can sort out their rain issue!

A day of many highlights with several players shooting all time lows including a net 63 from Santi Miller, more skirts than a red wig could sensibly shaken at, a Most Improved of 18, the first time appearance of a skins sideline – and three Newcomers to welcome in Mark Manderson, Sew Cheong Kiat and Vergel Vicencia. A warm Tee Set welcome to you all.

Finally, a little after the prize giving saw some of the most violent rain seen in Jakarta for some time with flash flooding and found a group of Tee Setters “ stuck” in the clubhouse unable to go home. Rather luckily the bar was still open.

The Play

Prizes

Just aim for the G in Sogo, Santi ..

Just aim for the G in SOGO, Santi ..

One for whom the rain might not have existed was Santi Miller who shot her finest ever score with Tee Set with a gross 73 and, with a wide selection of prizes to pick from, chose Low Net with her 35-38-73-10-63, leaving Sam Westen to take Low Gross with his own 73. Well done Santi!!

George Bevege took his usual 100,000 home, this time for his First Birdie on the second, leaving Keith Miller to take home his share of the riches on offer with his Sandy Par on the 12th.

Goetz

Goetz gets Most Improved with a (nearly!) unbelievable 59-41-18

With much of the the first 9 holes being played in rain, it is hardly surprising that the day saw an unusually high number of players in double figures in the “Most Improved” column and Goetz Ebbeke’s stunning 59-41-100 was not that far away from the all-time-record of 23 set by Shawn Berg in 2008

Leona Jelinkova is making a habit of taking home the 1st Par – HC >=30, securing the prize on her very first hole this week. Well done Leona, but watch out for the handicapper!

Perhaps the unluckiest Tee Setter on the day was Chris Smith who played the best round of his Tee Set career but narrowly missed out in all categories on a day that saw so many people playing well. It is understood that Chris was not too put out as he secured 5 skins in the President of Some Things’ “Skins Sideshow” 🙂

Speaking of unlucky, the Treasurer was grinning from ear to ear at the rich haul of 9 skirts – and their related fines – which was to include the scalp of Sam Westen, who found himself conspired against by a tree which jumped out and sent Sam’s ball hurtling back to him and finish the wrong side of the red tee 🙂 Mike Webb then managed to perform exactly the same trick as Sam on the same hole and was to comment, “I have always wanted to play like Sam – and I finally got my wish!”

Thurman is no newcomer to the Skirt Fraternity but broke new ground by taking 4 shots to get past the ladies tees on hole #11 and may very well  have been rattled by losing his 6 iron in the bushes on his first swing of the day. Another of the day’s cross-dressers was  a Craig Metters free of the clutches of the wife on holiday in Perth and attempting two games in one weekend only to be thwarted by the weather. A skirt on the first swing didn’t help his mood.

Finally, player results can be found here while many more photos are in our photo archive here.

Next Up

After the glamour and glitz of some of our recent events, it is back to the bread and butter stuff again at Pondok Cabe. We have extolled the virtues of this solid second division course on a number of previous occasions so we won’t bore you again, suffice to say that green fees etc will be a less than wallet thinning 375,000 roops walking on a walking friendly course, or 450,000 if you share a cart; first tee off from 1 and 10 at 11:30, or maybe a little earlier.

Sign up on “Yes, I’m playing!” as usual.

See yah Sunday!! …. Tee Set

PS Having recently spent rather more time in a particular Matoa greenside bunker than might be considered sensible, regular Tee Setter and golf coach Ken Runyon’s piece in the latest JakartaNOW! was of more than usual interest to your scribe – and may very well be to you.

Next Up: Senayan National, Sunday 12th February

SenayanThe rather grandly named Senayan National GC, known rather more humbly as Kebayoran until  a year or three ago, has long been an expat favourite, its unparalleled central location providing the chance to get 9 holes in and still be into the office more or less on time. And only a little late if going for the full Monty 🙂

In 2011/12 at Senayan, what had become a rather shabby, down at heel facility since being opened in the 1960s in a burst of sports mania by then President Sukarno, was transformed with a complete course re-modelling, use of the very finest turf and the construction of perhaps the most luxurious and well equipped clubhouse in Indonesia.

Given the millions of dollars involved in the work, the steep rise in the price of a round of golf at Senayan was perhaps inevitable but was to put the course well beyond the range that your committee considers what is acceptable to the membership as a body.

Times have moved on, however,  and prices at the course have come down from the stratosphere right across the range and 600,000 walking for an 11:00 start is pretty reasonable for this sort of quality. Clearly Tee Setters agree with this and all 32 of the places we had on offer on Monday were gone within hours. The carts at 500,00 (250,000/pax shared) we will leave to your own personal cost/benefit analysis.

Wina has now secured an extra 2 flights giving us room for another 8 players – and 5 of these are still there for the taking by registering here on a strictly first come first served basis. We may even be able to smuggle in a few extra into DOGS if needed as they play immediately after us.

First tee off from two tee boxes at 10:50 when we should all be away by around 11:30 on a course that appears to be rather more agreeably professional in its approach to such things than a number of the courses we have played recently; naming no names.

See yah Sunday!! …. Tee Set
