Rough Times at Rancamaya

A very scenic place is Rancamaya, so scenic in fact that the golf club has made huge swathes of it OB and Oh Buggar was the call of many a golfer on Sunday. TeeSet arrived with a squad of 26 with some very evenly matched paired or so it seemed on paper. 13 pairs went out to do battle for TeeSet and 9 came home with their heads lowered. Not even the army ship ploy seemed to work. However when golfing with TeeSet there is always a silver lining to every grey cloud. Sunday’s silver lining came in the form of Renny and Juju who with 4 holes to play were 3 down. They then choked the life out of the DOGS pair and came home winners. A last hole victory is the best victory as you get to see the pain of defeat on the losing team’s faces and to win the last 4 holes is nothing short of fantastic.

TeeSet’s golden girls Juju and Renny

The two other victories went to our low hcp Team of Simon and Bobby and the other winning pair was Patrick and Michael, the high handicap pairing. Patrick complained of a sore back having carried the President for the first 10 holes. The pair then ignited to win the next 6 holes and put the DOGS pair to the sword with the biggest winning margin for the TeeSetters that day. Simon of the very pastel yellow shorts and Bobby had revenge over the pair that beat them the previous year. So whilst we may have been belted off the course, let’s keep the fire burning in the belly for when we take to Rancamaya next year and skin the DOGS. With a rebel yell TEESET!

Gracious in defeat. The plotting begins.

Upcoming at Jagorawi combined with JIL

This Sunday we have the Interleague games. TeeSet is still looking for a player or two to join the squad. Please let us know if you can make the Interleague team as we start our march up the comp table to undoubtable victory later this year. It is a semi shotgun start so make sure you are on time. TeeSetters not taking part in the Interleague games will have their usual Sunday out at JAgorawi chasing Stableford points and low gross prizes.

What does the future hold for TeeSet?

Plenty we have the monthly medal at the lovely Cengkerang Course. This is followed by a trip to Gunung Geulis on the 4th of June when the rains will have left the mountains and moved to Malaysia. On the 11th of June we have the World Cup at Riverside, which once again is a sellout, with teams representing countries from all corners of the globe. We have started a wait list in case of any dropouts.

This is the 40th anniversary of the TeeSet golf society and we have a few things in store. World Cup in June, Birthday Scramble in September and the Championship in December. We are looking for companies and individuals to get onboard and help TeeSet with some sponsorship. You will get recognition at all 3 events and have banners at the skill holes as well as in the club house. The President will sing your praises in every after round wind down. Next week we will send out a sponsorship package with greater detail. In the meantime you can ask yourselves “Not what TeeSet can do for you but what you can do for TeeSet”. (If the sponsorship is large enough we might bring in a few LIV players on their weekend off to help us stick it to the DOGS next year)

See you at Jagorawi

Cengkareng Kojo Monthly Medal

True enjoyment awaited the TeeSet golfers who went out to contest last month’s medal. The weather in Asia has been pretty hot this last fortnight and Sunday midday was no different. The President had put in a couple of days preparation for the Medal, Friday saw him propping up the bar at EP until some ungodly hour (The hour when they close it). Saturday it was off on the Batavia Hash House Harriers run which always ends messy, guaranteed. So feeling a million bucks, well a million Rups, it was off to challenge for the Medal. Men off blues ladies off red. That first tee box, the blue was way at the back. Drove it straight down the middle to the corner. Luckily they have lots of drink stops on the course to take the pain away. Others fared better see below.

Medal winner Thijs Penning with a nett 66. Came for the golf stayed for the beer.

Claudio back in the winners’ circle with a gross 81 for best gross. Winners are grinners. Also seen stumbling off the 17th into the Marshal’s cart to be assisted to the 18th. He could stand unassisted on the first so no rules broken.

No mucking around in the heat for Manish nailed a birdie on the first hole. Well done.

Velma takes the pretty flamingoes for 28 with the flat stick.

Well done to James with a Sandy Birdie. Two thumbs up for that one on the 10th.

Long Driving David took the chocolates today for the men with a well positioned drive of 235m a bit longer in yards.

68cm, give or take an inch or two, is how close John was to the pin when it mattered on the NTP hole.

With a fist full of flamingoes Shinta takes long drive 198m and nearest the pin 277cm. Well done now to master the flat stick.

KEDATON this Sunday

A lovely course, whilst quite flat has a few hazards to keep you on your toes. A great clubhouse and good food. The men have the option of playing off white. A great warm up round for the coming DOGS match play challenge the following week in Rancamaya. So maybe organise a few unofficial matchplay games this Sunday to get you up to speed on Matchplay pressure. Sign up on MyGolf2U ASAP to avoid disappointment.

If you wish to contact the secretary or any committee member late at night feel free to whatsapp a message and it will be promptly answered 7 or 8 hours later after breakfast.

Upcoming Events

Rancamaya Golf Extravaganza hosted over 3 days with JAWS DOGS and TeeSet all involved in the DOGS big Charity weekend. There will be a great BBQ on Saturday night. TeeSet Matchplayer team members, Bill Lloyd is the curfew man you must be in bed before him on Saturday night. Sign up on the DOGS MyGolf2U tournament for this weekend 12-14th of May. Sign with JAWs if playing the Friday also.

The World Cup is coming in June 24 full teams and a couple of nearly full teams capped at 27 teams so let us know if you want to join a team. These last teams will most likely be UN teams and not have the bickering issues that national teams have. Get to work on your team uniforms. There will be a great prize for best dressed team. Also we will have lucky draws and 6 novelty holes. Looking for hole sponsors if anyone is interested please contact the President. Full course shotgun start will be a cracking day. More info to follow.

See ya Sunday

Pondok Cabe Hari Raya Round

자카르카골프 - Pondok Cabe Golf Club - 골프장정보 - 사삭투어

Seven flights head off last Sunday late morning for a very pleasant round of golf. Your President meanwhile was enjoying the Cikampek Toll where the Mudik mob were still fleeing Jakarta. I know where I would have prefered to have been. Anyway back to Pondok Cabe. This course has come along way since the pandemic the course has been cleaned up and all of the overgrowth has been removed to make it much more attractive to play. They have even put some sand in the bunkers. The clubhouse has received a facelift also. Hopefully next on the agenda will be the replacement of the Suharto vintage towels in the changerooms.

The master of the Count Back strikes again. Roger takes the Tin this week with another CB victory this time over Eric. Both finished on 38 points but Roger had 20 on the back to Eric’s 16. We need to get a few Bintangs into you Eric on the second nine to refuel the engine.

Simon feeling refreshed from hiking the Sental hills hits the golf course and turns in an excellent 75 off the stick. Hiking doesn’t help my golf or maybe it’s the beer afterwards? Nah, must be the hiking.

Doug with the small beer had first Sandy on the 6th, meanwhile Steve, with the big beer, had 29 taps with the flat stick. Not sure what is happening in the painting on the back wall?

The Flopmeister, Ric Wymer, nails first birdie from 60 yards out on the second. Well done.

Welcome back to Joe Alchi after nearly 2 year absence due to a broken arm. Hope to see you this Sunday at the Monthly Medal.

Monthly Medal at Cengkerang

That time of the month again boys and girls when we play for the prestigious Kojo Monthly Medal. The lads will be playing from the blues and the lassies from the reds. We have room for more golfers so please sign up on MyGolf2U and bring your friends.

Going Forward

After the monthly medal we will be visiting Kedaton a lovely course which is easy to get to. The slicer and hooker may find a few balls going for a swim here so best to keep it straight. On the weekend of the 12th -14th of MAy we are at Rancamaya for the Charity Golf Extravaganza. With JAWS hosting Friday. The DOGS charity 2 ball scramble on the Saturday and TeeSet V DOGS in a matchplay on Sunday. If you are not in the match play come along anyway as there are plenty of spots available and Rancamaya is a beautiful place to play golf, just watch out for a few dodgy OB areas.

Plenty happening at TeeSet get on down and join the fun. All welcome.

Rainbow Hills playing the Forest and Mountain Courses

A bunch of golfs once more headed out on the empty highways of Jakarta and surrounds to play the empty golf course of Rainbow Hills. Ramadan golf is a blessing in disguise. Also no chickens were sacrificed to keep the rain at bay as the Dry Season may actually be upon us. Beautiful conditions for golf and once again the scores generally reflected this with most players happy with their rounds.

We had a couple of requests for carts with red flags due to age or injuries. The club made a bit of a song and dance about it so if you need a red flag please contact the club at least a day before the game so arrangements can be made and expectations managed.

The President was in a Match Play game with Ezra who toyed with the President up until the last few holes before snuffing out any chance with a well deserved 3 and two victory. In other match plays Simone threw away a 4 hole advantage to end up tied with Patrick. They will fight it out again to see who goes where in the next round. If you have a match play game due you have 2 more opportunities to get it done before your fate is decided by the toss of a coin.

This coming Sunday TeeSet is off to the enchanting Pondok Cabe course with the recently renovated clubhouse. This will be the last opportunity to get to and from a course with limited traffic issues before the golfing mobs and weekend motor tourists return. So do yourself a favour and sign up to this game on MyGolf2U

In May we have the Golf Extravaganza at Rancamaya. JAWS will be hosting a game on Friday the 12th. On Saturday the 13th there is the DOGS two ball charity scramble and BBQ. The highlight being the Match Play between TeeSet and the DOGS on Sunday the 14th. Please make sure you clear this weekend so you can join the fun and golf. Many golfers choose to overnight on Saturday so make sure you have booked accommodation in advance.

Neil with a lovely round of golf and 39 stableford points picked up the Tin Cup, his better half, Aprilianty, picked up a new golf bag.

Low gross 80, low putts, first sandy the only thing Roger didn’t win was best dressed. Purple Really? Bad luck Gaurav beaten on a count back once again.

Hitosi nailed a birdie on his second hole well done. I nailed a tree.

World Cup is on in June we have 21 teams filled or partially filled so get on board for one of the most well attend golf Sundays of the year. Let myself or Adhe know who is in the team or your desire to play. Lots of prizes including best dressed team get involved join the fun.

9th Of April Game Report Bogor Raya

A small crowd of TeeSetters venture off to Bogor Raya. Travelers enjoyed sublime travel conditions to the course with times from Kemang areas under 50 minutes. Adhe, our club organiser, was there after a long drive back that morning from the Bandung Bash, Where she reported golfers were still partying to the wee hours of the morning.

We got off to a quick start as the course was fairly empty due to Ramadan. The course was in great nick and the greens pace were fairly even. Many golfers put in scorecards that may them happy. There were an abundance of birdies over the first few holes resulting in a double payment of the birdie prize. Winners are grinners. The Stableford points were above usual, such was the ease the course played at. The President even managed to par the Index 1 18th hole. A lot of this may be down to the fact we played off whites but more so due to the nearly perfect golfing conditions offered by Bogor Raya. They let us down in one area. They shoved three flights in front of us on the last 9. This slowed us down but not the good golf that was on display.

Back to the club house after a quick wash behind the ears in Bogor Raya’s world class change rooms. The club had on offer a free beer and some Korean snacks. Banter was brisk as we listened to all the near misses and 300 metre drive stories. Golfers bare a strong resemblance to fishermen in how a story is re-told. Anyway love listening to them. two problems in the club house, 1. they wouldn’t serve Minn a cold beer and 2. they tried to kill Hitoshi with a dodgy bowl full of seafood. Besides this it was great surrounds that TeeSet golfers enjoyed their warm down after a day of truly wonderful golf at Bogor Raya.

This Week we are still in the lovely Mountain Course country this time, at Rainbow Hills. Rainbow Hills offers wonderful views, great food and best of all a great challenging Golf Course. We will be playing off whites again, unless you feel the need for further challenges. We will play the Forest and Mountain Courses with an 11am Tee Off so please sign up on MyGolf2U. The traffic will be light both ways a truly excellent opportunity to get to play a premier course.

What’s Coming Up

On Sunday the 23rd the game has been moved to Pondok Cabe due to the closure of Gading Raya for Ramadan. We have a great price at Pondok Cabe so get on down for the last day of traffic free golf until next time Ramadan rolls around.

Match Play rames need to be wound up by the end of this month. That leaves this Rainbow Hill, Pondok Cabe and the Monthly Meday at Cengkerang as the last 3 TeeSet games to get it done.

Rancamaya Golf Extravaganza is over the weekend of the 12th, 13th, & 14th. Jaws will host the Friday game. On Saturday there is a 2 man scramble hosted by DOGS and on Sunday there is the TeeSet v DOGS matchplay. Speak to myself or Dean and Roger if you would like to represent TeeSet as we prepare to take their bone away.

In June we have the World Cup at Riverside so please start organising your national teams to see who gets bragging rights for the next year. There seems to be a lot of Indian and Italian golfers around so we would expect multiple teams from them.

A great round from Max with 44 points and not a fairway missed and a lovely chip in birdie to make up for those 3 putts that lipped out. A pleasure to watch.

Good to see Simon back from climbing mountains. He hit a solid 75 for low gross. Spend the money on golf balls not mountaineering gear.

Good job with the flat stick Viboon 26 putts. Spent a bit of time visiting other fairways but putted well. 🙂

Number 1 hole for the first birdie from Monique well done. The money matches your shirt. Dressing for success.

The handsome lads of Neil and Jens both Sandied the same hole in the same group different bunkers.

Three flights stuck on the swing. Simon loved the carpark announcer waiting until he started his swing.

Gungung Geulis Gold Club 2-4-23

A small band of TeeSet golfers ventured south on the Jagorawi toll as Ramadan beckoned golfers to the mountain courses of Bogor and Sentul. the drive from Kemang via the new toll was just under 50 minutes. The development around Gungung Geulis continues at breakneck speed hopefully the new houses have solid foundations.

TeeSet were off the West course with 8 flights using both Tee Boxes 1 & 10 to keep things moving. The President teed off first on 1 with a lovely topper that bounced down the cart path never to be seen again, a sign of things to come. The first flight safely on the fairway on the first hole enjoyed a barrage of balls from the second flight. This seem to continue for the rest of the round with flight 2 breathing down our neck right up to the last hole or 2.

Good to see Geoff Thwaites and son Sam back, as well as Robert Fleischman As well as three new members Deepak and Ishaan Pande and Bilal. Bilal made quite the impression on the group he played with due to some massive drives with both driver and iron, bit of work on the putting 🙂

Bilal 2nd on the right.

Sam Thwaites chopping wood for a par. Seems a free drop was available but why make an easy game easier?

The greens were heavily sanded as was the putting green to replicate conditions on the course. A few of the greens proved challenging and low putts was 32 from Sri. The first time in a long time that 32 putts was good enough to take the money.

Why putt when you can eagle. Young Vijay nailed a lovely eagle which helped him on his way to a best stableford of the day 40 points. In the photo below we can see Guarave contemplating a 9 iron into Vijay’s head. We don’t encourage violence at TeeSet but there is always the exception. Vijay survived.

Normally there would be special mention of the first birdie but with an eagle poor old Viboon gets relegated to view ruiner position. Nice birdie.

Low gross went to the man with the 9 iron, Guarav. Guarav had a tie last week for low gross which he lost, graciously, on a countback but was clear of the field this Sunday. Needs to relax a bit and undo that top button.

Next week TeeSet is at the lovely Bogor Raya. Rp1.1juta including cart. Please sign up via MyGolf2U as soon as possible so we can ensure we have enough flights booked and gives us enough time to arrange flights. With Ramadan traffic expect easy access to the course and fast travel times home. Which means plenty of time for Apres Golf activities (more time at the 19th)

Upcoming Events

In May, we have the annual JAWS, D.O.G.S, TeeSet charity weekend at Rancamaya Golf and Country Club. JAWS will be hosting the first day on Friday 12th of May, D.O.G.S will be holding a two ball scramble on the Saturday with an excellent BBQ buffet after the game. On the Sunday is the Match Player D.O.G.S v TeeSet. Lets get a good team together and put the DOGS back in the pound. If you wish to join TeeSet Team speak to Michael Seabrook, Dean Merriless, or Roger Finnie about your availability to play. I believe las Sunday we may have added Jens, Shinta, Dan, Thijs, Alessandro and Diarmuid to the squad. Correct me if I am wrong. The President is never wrong. Many players stay a night or 2 at the hotel next to the course. Book early to avoid disappointment. TeeSetters will find that this weekend is listed on MyGolf2U under D.O.G.S make sure you register early.

Idul Fitri occurs over the weekend of the 22-23 of April this year. Our scheduled game at Gading Raya has been moved to Pondok Cabe due to Gading Raya being closed on the Sunday. A big thanks to Rod Williams for helping us secure a good price on this religious long weekend. So 23rd Of April is at Pondok Cabe.

The annual World Cup is coming up in June we need to start getting teams organised so we can secure a shotgun start at Riverside. The bookies have the Australians in with no chance the Canucks in with a snowball’s chance of survival in hell. Let’s see what the bookies think of your country’s hopes. We can have more than one team representing a country and golfers from Tuvalu, San Marino, Vatican City etc we can place in a rest of the world team so make sure you let us know you want to play.

See you at the Tee Box next Sunday

The Monthly Medal Round Up

48 players came to Cengkareng and 48 players went home winners. Course was in good condition finally after enduring months of rain. The pace of play was excellent, except for Gaurav’s flight which found it a bit slow but that gave him the opportunity to hand in a cracking score with a bit more time to concentrate.

A few late scratchings meant we missed being a full booking but it also ensured daylight was still abundant as you made your final putt. The day started hot and finished mild. Swearing was kept to a minimum and the ladies enjoyed their usual huge distance advantage between red and blue tees. Bags a definite victim of playing match play against Velma and conceding such a huge amount of free ground.

Next Sunday we venture out onto the Ramadan empty Jagorawi Toll to play Gunung Gelis. Gunung Gelis offers scenic views and excellent clubhouse and a fine golf course. So take advantage of the light traffic and head to the mountains. Remember to sign up on MyGolf2U.

Velma took the monthly medal with a great round as well as a Matchplay win. Two thumbs up.

Nicolas won on a count back from Gaurav to take low gross. Great effort to both players

Jane and Hitoshi shared first birds

Shinta and Hitoshi took long drives. Boom

Nearest the pin went to Siti and JP. Nearest to OB the President.

Roger had first Sandy and low Putts. Well done.

Going Forward

We have all our games up and till the 14th of May available for you to register on MyGolf2U. The earlier you register the easier it is for the club to organize extra flights if necessary.

First round of the TeeSet Match Play needs to be completed by the end of April. So please get moving on arranging your games.

Dean Merrilees is leading the TeeSet Interleague team this year. After a slow start finding willing players, we now have a team together but need a few more names to cover in case of illness, travel or really poor form. Hopefully we can now successfully challenge for the trophy over the remaining matches. Please speak to Dean or The President if you wish to get involved. The next Interleague game is in May.

Upcoming events we have the Rancamaya weekend golf extravaganza. Day One is Friday the 12th of May hosted by Jaws. Day Two is the D.O.G.S TeeSet 2 Person Charity Scramble on Saturday the 13th and on the final day we have the D.O.G.S v TeeSet matchplay. To register for these games please use MyGolF2U and the games are listed under the DOGS. Many golfers choose to stay overnight at the hotel so please book early to avoid disappointment

We are also looking at confirming our team against the DOGS at Rancamaya so please once again speak with the President or Dean Merrilees about your desire to be part of the team that beats the doggies.

Finally on the 11 of June we are hosting our annual World Cup Event. So please start scratching around for a team of fellow nationals to take part in this classic event at Riverside. Please register your team with Adhe ASAP to ensure bookings are managed appropriately.

As this is our 40th Anniversary we are planning a big bash in early September with our annual Birthday Scramble. We will also be organizing a comp against our old buddies at Pocksia who are also celebrating 40 years. So plenty of fun ahead and we hope to see as many of you as possible supporting these upcoming events.

Regards

Kojo Monthly Medal at Cengkerang this Sunday

The President has been lapse in his duties to due being away on holidays and incapacitated by the lovely mosquito born tropical virus Chickunganya a nasty variety of Dengue, which he also got. In the words of Monty Python,” Lucky bastard”.

Anyways hopefully all will be up to speed next week. We still have a few spots left for the Monthly Medal this Sunday. Those who have listed to compete I the TeeSet Matchplay Comp this Sunday may be a great opportunity to get tour first game in to see what side of the draw you will go. If tou have arrange a matchplay game this Sunday please inform Ibu Adhe to help with pairings.

The Monthly Medal is played off the Blue Tees for men and Red for the ladies.

Also remember over the Easter Weekend there is the Bandung Bash at Giri Gahana. A great out of town trip for golfers. http://www.bandungbash.com to register.

The Modern Golf Day a walk (in the park for some)

Modern Golf a lovely walking course where they insist you use a cart. Water and bunkers can be a wayward golfers nightmare here and the slightly elevated greens can ruin one’s approach game as balls fail to run up to the hole.

TeeSet took on this challenge on Sunday and avoided the rain and some players put in some decent scores. TheWorld Cup is approaching and the Italians are looking like the team to beat. Roberto took the Tin this week.

Next week we play Imperial which will be a good insight to the TeeSet Interleague team who will compete there the following week. This should put us in good stead against the DOGS who have been getting a few practise rounds in there recently in an attempt to improve on their 2022 Interleague performance, good luck.

Dean Meriless has volunteered to lead the Teeset Interleague Team so please make yourself known to either Dean or Adhe if you want to join the TeeSet Squad.

A bout of Chickunganya currently hitting the President has meant this news letter will be short. Yes even the Ruling Class can be laid low by the bite of a bloody mosquito. A word of thanks to Jens who took the reins last Saturday and did a marvelous job.

Roberto takes the weekly Cup with a grin that Claudio could learn from.

Nicholas takes the Low Gross cash. This might earn a spot on the Interleague Team?

The Birdie Boys Aljosja and Diarmuid. Looks like the Irishman got into his cups after the 8th.

Low putts went to Jude with a healthy 28 knocks of the flat stick.

TeeSet at Jagorawi with JIL

Last Sunday marked the start of the new Jakarta Inter- League Season. TeeSet players were representing many teams out there which is great to see. Due to The President being absent on holidays we were only able to put together a squad together on the day. A big thanks for the team who battled bravely for TeeSet. We are one game in with plenty of time to climb up the table.

Next week’s game is at Modern where men have the choice of Tee boxes and the ladies will be off red. Modern is a course located conveniently close to the toll road so fairly easy to get to on a Sunday. The food is pretty good and beers reasonabably priced. The most importan t thing about this course is that is pretty user friendly off the whites and avoiding the numerous water and sand traps should see some good Stableford scores. This will be the last round of the quarterly shield so get down to see if you can upset the current leaders. Please book via mygolf2u app to ensure your space.

Apologises for the briefness of todays report but feeling a bit beaten up with Chickunganya. A truly unpleasant virus. Once again Thanks to Roger and Adhe for their efforts last Sunday and we hope to see you at Modern on Sunday.

Bandung Bash is on again this Easter a great out of town golf weekend. Organise your mates to get on down for a weekend of golfing and drinking. http://www.bandungbash.com
