Kojo Monthly Medal

A group of 44 players headed out to contest the monthly medal. Conditions were initially, ideal but as we made our way around the course the wind picked up and the skies darkened. Shortly after the swing onto the back 9 the heavens unleashed a short torrential storm. Within a hole and a half it had moved on. It also moved on a slow moving Korean 4 ball in front of us. This led to a much faster back 9. The state of some of the greens were pretty poor. I know these things can’t be fixed overnight but little seems to be getting done.

Jari had a walk over in his Matchplay and Carter managed 2 eagles over the weekend. I have managed 1 over my golfing career and the witness is no longer with us. Does it still count? More and more TeeSet golfers are finding the walking course of Cengkareng to be beyond their physical capabilities and are resorting to carting around the course leaving wheel marks near greens and caddies in awe of your lack of effort.

Let’s get to the prizes before my cart arrives

Mark Patrick Kojo Monthly Medal Winner with 40 points. Well done after a long few days of golfing.

Carter takes low gross 76, long drive 228m, first eagle on the 14th.

First birdies all on the first Joe, Jari & Nico

Nearest the pin with a 1.3 metre next to the pin mark, Vijay.

Nearest the pin Rey 9m, long drive 204m. Well done.

First Sandy Par, Max on hole No9

Low putts Claudio with the 30 tapps of the flat stick

Imperial TeeSet Outing

Today’s p[ost on last week’s events will be short. I wasn’t there as was still in recovery mode from The Aus Embassy Lager Scramble. So let’s go to the winners before informing you of important upcoming golf.

Lukas pops up again on TeeSet and takes home the chocolates with a well played 39 Stableford points.

Continuing on with Germanic dominance, Jannes takes low gross with a 77. Well done.

Richard is right at home on Imperial and takes home the first birdie loot to boot.

Inappropriately attired for a TeeSet Sunday but that matters not when on the greens and Dead eye Bill only needed 29 taps of the flat stick to tame the Imperial greens.

Sunday Kojo Monthly Medal at Cengkareng 31/9/25

Once Teesetters proudly strode the fairways of this excellent walking course. Now we have most of the field in vehicles charging around the course. There are but a few athletes left. Pretty close to a full house so register on MyGolf2U or let Adhe you wanna play.

Now is the time for all good TeeSetters to come to the aid of the party.

Get your teams sorted and listed. Let Adhe know this Sunday or post them on the TeeSet Whatsapp and the committee will allocate you a lovely starting hole. Always a highlight of the year with a range of Adult prizes to be won. Apres Scramble off to Bull n Vine for a good time. Only 20 minutes from the course.

Hari Merdeka, Red & White Scramble Z9

16 pairs went out to compete in the inaugural TeeSet Merdeka Scramble hosted by Jens & Shinta at the challenging Jagorawi Z9 course. Each pair played 9 holes off the red tee boxes then played 9 off the white tee boxes. The Z9 sends a shiver down the spine of many a seasoned golfer with its tight lies and Sunday was no different. The course was in immaculate condition and it was reserved for the enjoyment/torture of the TeeSetters.

Jens had spent several weeks in preparing the days event ensuring the day went off without a hitch. Players were paired, starting holes designated and the shotgun start was away at 12.30 in beautiful golfing weather. Many golfers were resplendently attired in Red & White. No waiting for the whole day, as we were perfectly spaced and a ball hit wayward was a ball never seen again so no time wasted looking for it.

We had two skill holes on each 9 and obviously they were the same two holes. Long drive on 8 and nearest the pin on 9. The nearest the pin on 9 looks a bit more challenging off the whites especially for the ladies. Having typed that, I believe only one person(male) made the green from the whites. Well done Bagus.

So far this season we have had Valentine’s Day Scramble, Red, White & Blue (French National Day), Jambalaya Scramble, Golfing on the Whoosh, and now the Merdeka Day Scramble. The feedback from all those that have competed in these events has been nothing but positive and the committee has taken onboard the few areas that need to be improved on in each event. We the committee appreciate your feedback and we try to incorporate as much as is relevant in improving the golfing experience of all TeeSetters. We are here to serve. With this in mind a big thanks to Jens & Shinta who single-handley organised last Sunday’s wonderful event.

Golfing in Paradise Parahyangan

22 TeeSetters took the trip to Parahyangan. Golfers arrived by various means of transport but for 16 it was by Whoosh. Whoosh was fast like very fast. We left on time and arrived on time Parahyangan stuffed up and had no transport to meet us but soon we were loading ourselves and clubs into taxis and striking out for the golf course. Only a short Rp60k ride away along the outskirts of a rapidly growing Bandung.

We were ready to go at 12 on the dot and the starter informed Chairman Lloyd that things were looking good for our 1.30 tee times. Oh goodness have we made a big mistake? No was the answer Bill fixed the starter and off to the tee boxes we went. For many this was a first time visit. The course is truly in the best shape of any course that I have played in Indonesia. Craftly crafted fairways a plethora of bunkers and some long hits over gorges makes this a truly challenging and enjoyable course, add to that a stiff afternoon breeze. The greens were amazing. The sand in the bunker was perfect, I was only in two. The views around the course are nothing special but when you are playing such a special course who cares for any view besides the fairway in front of you.

The squad off the front 9 had a bit of a slow round but the crew off the back 9 were around in regulation time and into the warmdown beers. Thanks Craig I owe ya. The last group came in the dark and a light drizzle as we watched from the beer balcony. Off to the whoosh and in Jakarta 35 minutes later

We will be back sooner rather than later. Thanks to Adhe to making the day as smooth as possible and for strong support from Craig.

The winners

Well done to Nanin the only player to play to handicap.

Hari Merdeka Jagorawi Z9 Merah Putih Scramble

This Sunday a 2 ball scramble at the infamous Z9. 9 off the whites then 9 off the reds should be more fun than a barrel of monkeys. A dozen bottles of wine to be won plus 2 bottles of Whisky, you better sign up on MyGolf2U. To ensure we have a great day TeeSet have the whole Z9 to ourselves so it will be a shotgun start. A big thanks to Shinta and Jens who have put a lot of effort into this day. Come along and join us.

Vale Gary Milburn

The Jakarta golf societies were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Gary last Friday. Gary was an active member of TeeSet, POCKSIA and DOGS and was often sneaking in a mid week round when his schedule allowed.

Gary appeared on our golfing radar post covid, and was often paired with colleague Andy Cross and his son Carter. Soon Gary was involved with different flights and his pleasant easy going manner made his company a pleasure both on and off the golf course. He was always comfortable with whoever he was paired with. Gary was a bright light in the after golf warm downs and loved the game for what it offers, a challenge and an opportunity to enjoy the company of others.

The stunned state that this has left his friends in is only, slowly, starting to wear off. I chose not to post a photo of him as my last memory of him was his farewell at the monthly medal. It was his usual warm farewell and smiling face and this is how I wish to remember our friend Gary.

There will be a wake to celebrate Gary’s life tomorrow at The Bull and Vine from 7pm onwards. We hope to see many golfers there remembering the good times we had on and off the course with Gary.

JGC Jambalaya Round

Over the years we golfers have played in many different formats, stroke play, Stableford, Ambrose, Matchplay etc. Last Sunday we had the delight in playing a Jambalaya Scramble. Never has a game of golf involved so much fun. One minute you are wishing your partner nails the chip, next minute you are smugly smiling as the same person slices their tee shot into the trees. Rotate the love they say as they Jambalaya along. In perfect conditions we teed off and the Jambalaya was a way. The day stayed nice but a fair breeze picked up taking the sting out of the day. The course was in great conditions and the 2 ball scramble kept the trees out of play, most of the time.

Paul pips his new best mate Michel by 0.5 with a nett 65, with James in 3rd place with a 69. Some pretty good scores happen when we get down and Jambalaya. This will definitely be a repeated format. Glorious fun to say the least.

The Jambalaya crew warm down. Missing Dewi from the photo and Craig

Kojo Monthly Medal

We had a full complement of TeeSeters on course for the Monthly Medal at Cengkareng, with 48 sign ups. Weather conditions were helpful for the foot brigade as we were treated to an overcast day with a light breeze blowing from the ocean. Or was it the kitchen? There were even 4 spots of rain, I counted them. We gathered, awaiting starters orders, in the clubhouse discussing techniques and newly acquired yips. The first flights got the nod from the starter 15 minutes before Tee time so in expectation of an early start players moved to their allocated starting hole. We finally managed to tee off 5 minutes late.

The usual hold ups at the usual holes, but after a pretty normal slowish time for the first 9, the speed picked up a bit for the last 9. All back home with ample daylight. There is not a lot a TeeSetter needs to do in a round of golf. They have their caddy to point out the direction of any wayward balls and find them for you. They are also good at reading the greens and handing you clubs as they rake bunkers and repair pitch marks. All we have to do is write down a score, better yet put it into MyGolf2U, and count putts and mark sandy pars, birdies, etc. Not too difficult? Well for this fella it is a task too many. I returned to the club house fuming 2 missed sandy pars, one would have been a double sandy par if I could putt a ball just 6 foot into a hole. Those misses meantno photo in the blog yet again, no winnings to offset the financial burden golf is placing on the family. As I pondered my misfortune it hit me, I had sandy parred the first hole. You can’t fix stupid. There you go a new verb to sandy par”

Around the course there were a few battles going on to see who would advance to the next round of the TeeSet Matchplay Championship. With Velma & Bags both comfortably prevailing over their towering opponents Peter & Dean. Alastair back partnering Kim around the course for the first time in a long time had a most enjoyable round and missed the monthly medal by the longest of countbacks. Kim also had a glorious round. Brian ( From our best brewing company San MIg) had a great round with a large sub par score and was recounting stories with his group late into the evening. Riccardo is one of the club’s improving players and continued to show improvement with 41 Stableford points. Overall 16 players had 36 Stableford points or more. A glorious day of golf.

To The Winners

Rey led the way with 43 points. Great round gee it would have been tough to beat you in a matchplay with a game like that. Well done Champ.

Low gross goes to Anirudh with a gross 70, nett 72. We done.

First birdie on hole 1, Craig , Hitoshi and Brian, see below.

Long drive men goes to David with a booming 230m. Which is 3 metres more than he has ever hit before 🙂

Posie LD Ladies 155 metres, well done.

An ecstatic looking Steve with his Rp100k for his nearest the pin efforts of 6.80m

Rani takes Ladies NTP with a well struck ball pitching to 5.6m from the hole. Well done.

Arnold with a SANDY PAR on the 4th takes the prize. Well done.

Velma takes the chocolates for low putts with just 28 taps of the flatstick

We will name that days game as Mr. Zakhir Memorial Tournament, who was the former owner and maker of the Z-Course, which was designed by his daughter. Jakarta Interleague Riverside

The Interleague team went out to do battle with the rampant Cloggies, current leaders of the JIL. At the end of the day the glorious TeeSet team fell short of bringing home the chocolates. Two of our pairs had close games but could not prevail. It was a big day for the Thwaites as Sam had a challenging win in his singles and Geoff helped Peter achieve victory in the pairs. Well done. We are picking up points and have not been comprehensively rolled as other teams have but the elusive wins are just slipping out of our grasp. We have next month off and Team Captain Dean has an intensive training regime planned. I attend last Wednesday at Bull and Vine (Sponsor) along with Viboon. the training involved drink beer, play pool, drink beer, play pool then repeat. Vive Le TeeSet

Palme D’Or R. Finnie

The hallowed fairways of Cengkareng were awash with red, white and blue as 49 tee setters came out to join our new Fete Tricolore event in celebration of Bastille Day which falls on 14th July each year. Offering players the opportunity to choose their tee boxes… the red, white and blues ones of course… and strategise their way around the course in the true spirit of Napoleon. Napoleon being well represented in the physical form of Craig Edwards.

Well how did these strategies pan out? Not so well in the experiences of the author as he clubbed his way to a new record of using bad words as shots went astray. The highlight being on the 5th where playing off the reds his second shot land right of the green and the uphill shot onto the green, all of 5 metres, failed to summit the hill and rolled back to his feet. People on the plane on the nearby runway heard his colourful outburst. But it was quite an experience playing from other red tees and fully understanding why the ladies struggle for par when you double bogey.

Not everyone had such a traumatised round as the author with Claudio knocking in an eagle on hole No. 1. Fernando had a sub 80 round with a deft 37 putts. Roger chipped in for 2 birdies and Shinta took it to the men by joining the Red, White & Blue challenge. Whilst Sari fresh from golfing in Scotland put in an impressive round playing from the traditional Red Tees.

The conditions for golf were perfect with the skies being overcast taking the sting out of the midday heat, we even had a few spots of rain. Not enough to get the wet weather gear out or even an umbrella. The pace of play on the first 9 was painfully slow but things got moving once the last of the morning round golfers vacated the course. Unfortunately for some their rounds finished in the dark, but friendship and ale awaited them back in the clubhouse.

A day like this just doesn’t occur it takes significant planning and big thanks goes out to the two chief planners Roger, on concept, Craig, on smallgoods. In minor support roles were Adhe, Chairman Bill & Michael.

Prizes/Winners

1. Christian Dior for Best Dressed goes to Rosie

 2. La Dunkerque = 1st Sandy Par & Napoleon Award = Best Points Men and the winner is Ed with 45 points, 15 of the Blue 15 of the white and 15 off the red. I hope you made the morning flight to Singapore

Sari takes the Josephine Award with 38 points well done.

Sri takes 2nd ladies 37 points.Well done. Oh but for the penalty on the 17th.

Steve takes 2nd on countback with 40 points.

3rd to Craig and 2nd in the countback also on 40 points

Edith Piaf je ne regrete rien. Pascal has no regrets and maybe no recollection come Monday morning. Big score award.

Louis Braille (couldn’t read the greens) Award goes to Michel with 43 putts

La Tour Eiffel Award to Hitoshi with 75 off the stick

La Guillotine. Award goes to Trancede with 10 stroke improvement on the back 9

Well that was a lot of winners or whatever they all got a bottle of wine which led to a long evening at Cengkareng as the TeeSetters shared their booty and golf stories were re-counted long into the night with French disco-punk serenading. The wobbly boots were firmly on come Monday morning.

Remember to be here for the next Bastille Day TeeSet Bash

Gading Raya Sunday 6th of July

What rhymes with four? Pour! And it did, it rained cats and dogs. We had completed 8 holes when the heavens opened. Luckily we had just pulled up at the 10th so the clubhouse was close by. Back we went and hopped into the beers. After a few bottles we went back out again and hit one shot then went back to the beers.

The odd angry shot on the 10th resulted in a glorious moment as I pocketed Axel’s Pro V1 (see above) as he dashed back to the clubhouse. It was about 10 metres behind my drive but not bad for the old bloke in trying conditions. The good news to come out of this, is he is not getting it back. And so ends TeeSet’s adventure last Sunday when we were finally washed out. The first time in nearly 2 years.

Let’s not linger longer on last week’s round. Let’s push on to discover what wonderful events the committee have installed for us over the next few weeks.

New on the calendar, TeeSet this weekend celebrates all things French. We play the colours of the flag. Women can elect to join the tri-colour round or play the day from the reds

Le jour de gloire est arrivé. Aux baton de golf, citoyens, formez quatre balles golf. Golf on Golf on.

Just about full sign up on MyGolf2U. French Cab Sav prizes for the the victors, eh Frenchy.

Jambalaya Scramble Jakarta Golf Club 3rd Of August

An exciting scramble which is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Great prizes for victors and glorious moments for those that get the ever elusive woody par. Put it in your calendar.

TeeSet Whoosh Challenge Parahyangan Golf Club 10th of August

We take the whoosh for a quick round at what many consider to be Indonesia’s finest golf course. A booking list will start soon. Make your plans to join this great day now.

17th of August Hari Merdeka Jagorawi GCC

Take on the challenging Z nine course not once but twice in the same round. In honour of Independence DAy we will play a round off the Reds and a round off the whites. Merdeka!

See ya Sunday.

The Kojo Monthly Medal Cengkareng 29th of June

An overcast day greeted golfers at Cengkareng for the Monthly Medal. Overcast is good, a bit of drizzle never killed anyone. Lightning on the other hand has more success, and has scored a direct hit on this course many years ago. But enough of sizzled golfers onto the day.

Carts were allowed. Lift, clean and place forgave bad lies. It was the Glorious Tee Set Kojo Monthly Medal but there were a number of important side competitions.

But let’s start with the main event – more competitive than Topuria Oliveira – came down to a split decision – both on 41 points Trisna and Jaakko. Victory and a gold medal to Jaakko on a countback!! Cash to Trisna under the “Share the Love” rule invoked as required.

Lots of sharing as Jaakko and “welcome back” weekend warrior Mark Blake both hit 74 – but Mark got the cash.

Nanin cracked a 182m monster to win ladies longest drive. The four ladies also won best celebrations on every hole!!!!

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of iconic Le Coq Sportif in Indonesia, our own Mighty Frenchman smashed longest drive, from his other driver!

Al was miserly in taking low putts with 30 putts and taking the honours from Dean in their Pocksia matchplay.

Alessandro was nearest to the pin and furthest from the fairway many times but like all good Italian sons always found his way home – 39 points and a matchplay win over Craig Tinggi…. guaranteeing the Cup will change hands in November. Who wants it most?

Speaking of which our brother from the City of Brotherly Love was sharing some of it with Brother Arne as both won First Sandy Par.

Bobby and Dean (singing their 1958 hit I’m Ready) shared first birdie and saving the best til last, we had an Eagle. Nicolas and Ale each had chances but it was Albert pitching in from 100m to take the honours and cash bonus!!!

MR. EAGLE

Two more matchplay results – former champ Patrick took out Pras and Randy was strong against Master Chef Mr Mee.

Another glorious afternoon of Tee Set, drifting into evening just before the end of play.

PS: For those familiar with the cult that is The Dots, we had a new record high (40) and record low (8) set today. Violins could be heard from far away lands

This Sunday at Gading Raya

Another course that promises a rain free round. Also know for well manicured greens and inattentive restaurant staff. Sign up on MyGolf2U and be part of the TeeSet fun weekend. Lucky draw this Sunday. You gotta be there to win it. Get the MyGolf2U app from your phone’s app store and never miss another TeeSet round

What’s coming up?

Plenty, is the answer. Clear your diaries and pencil in TeeSet Sunday for the next 2 months first up

13tof July we celebrate the French

The 3rd of August we get down and boogie our way around Jakarta Golf Club, not bogey.

Later in August on the 10th we Whoosh to Parayhangan. A hit and Whoosh visit.

17th of August Jens has organised a special Independence Day celebration at Jagorawi

The there is always the non-TeeSet activities that we encourage you to get involved with

All invited but if you have a connection to the mining industry this is a must. Text me if you wanna join my 4 ball. Looking for friends.

Now in its 11th year book soon as it is filling quickly.
