Next up :Sunday 19th December CHRISTMAS PARTY, MONTHLY MEDAL at Cengkareng RESULTS.
Next Up: Cengkareng Monthly Medal this Sunday
This Sunday, 12th December, we make a swift return to Cengkareng for the last monthly medal of 2021. If you made the championships its a good time to relive your round or slay your demons depending on how it went; if you didn’t, it’s a good time to catch up on what you missed! As usual, the monthly medal is a net strokeplay event off blue tees for men, red for ladies.

12.00pm tee off as usual, Rp875k walking and please sign up on the mygolf2u app if you are interested to join us. As always, those wishing to use a cart, please contact the club directly as numbers are limited and we do not have visibility on their availability.
Sunday 5th December, 2021: Gading Raya

As has been our tradition in recent years, our first game of the new Tee Set year was held at Gading Raya. Shocking weather cleared just in time for Tee Off and some very good golf was played.
Congratulations to Tapio with an outstanding round of 46 points, our winner of the day. Tom and Laurent both and 41 points, with Tom awarded runner up on count back. Andrew shot a fine 74 to win Low Gross. Peter again dug himself out of trouble to win first sandy for the second week in a row, and Richard, found yet another prize to win with first birdie on the first. Leading in the ladies was Juju on 38 points.
Juju also overcame Roger 3 and 1 to advance to the matchplay final with Timo. Congratulations to Juju – who incidentally is also in the DOGS matchplay final. Tough competitor!!!!
Next Up: Sunday 12th December 2021, Monthly Medal, Cengkareng
Recognising that many will be away for a break, we bring the monthly medal forward to mid December, so we will be back to Cengkareng next week to battle it out. Note that it is a net strokeplay event with gents playing off the blues tees. Please register on Mygolf2U.
Please note local rules on the app. These will be updated from time to time at the President’s discretion.
German Open
Now one of the highlights of the Jakarta golfing calendar is the German Open, called many things over time, details below…… it will be held next Thursday 16th December and is a cracking day out.
And….for those wanting to host Christmas dinner without the fuss of cooking yourself, Andy at the Mandarin has let us know about their special dinner at home package…click here for more details.
Now, the last unashamed plug, and a farewell from your scribe. I have enjoyed my return to the pen very much but it’s now time to pass it on due to work, family, and music with the Jaya Blues Band starting to take off and releasing an album in February of songs recorded during the months when we couldnt play live (yes come and see us and follow us on Facebook and Instagram).
See you on the course and all the very best to my mate Geoff and his team moving forward.
Reminder: Sunday 5th December 2021, Gading Raya
One Tee Set year ends and another begins without a breath being taken in between. Our President has called together the brains trust and moved to set the schedule for 2021-22, starting this week with Gading Raya, a course that has been good to us. Gents and ladies play off their tee box of choice; please remember to identify the tee box when you start scoring, as it will determine your handicap. The scoring format is stableford. Please register through the MyGolf2U app. Any pairing requests to Roger by Friday please.
The MyGolf2U app will become our only form of registration, handicapping and competition scoring from 31 December 2021, so please enter 20 score cards if you haven’t already, or ask Adhe for help by email to teeset.jakarta@gmail.com and she will sort it out for you.
We are still confirming next year’s schedule but can advise that monthly medal rounds will continue at Cengkareng. The eclectic will be discontinued following the end of the current competition at Imperial, which will be decided on 19 December. Our brothers and sisters at DOGS are the eclectic masters, so we will focus on what we do best.
In choosing courses to complete the schedule, your feedback is welcomed. For example, some suggested a return to the Karawang courses we once played regularly, now that roads are completed and travel times are reasonable again, and Gunung Geulis is also now far more accessible, and a ripper place for an overnighter. We are also negotiating a special historical day at Jakarta Golf Club at a date to be confirmed. Tee Set’s commitment to the Jakarta Inter League (JIL) will continue through fielding a Tee Set team and other support as required; the Tee Set schedule will remain linked to Inter League fixtures and we will provide additional players to any teams who are short, as has been our custom.
More to follow in coming posts. Any feedback please address to our President, Geoff at teeset.jakarta@gmail.com.
Saturday 27th November 2021: 2021 Tee Set Championship, Cengkareng Golf Club

You can say what you like about the last year, it has been pretty crap for everyone, but the 2021 Tee Set Championship was probably the best ever. Thanks particularly to Cengkareng for being such generous hosts and to your Committee – Bill and Geoff – and particularly Roger for all the attention to detail needed to make the day work so well. Thanks again to all of our wonderful sponsors, most of whom were playing on the day. The Anker/San Miguels, Smootheez, Hot Hed Dogs and Kalture Tikka Wraps on Tee Box 4 were all star attractions; the wraps were so good they were eaten before any photo could be taken. Ahye and Taylor Moon Golf Fashion added some glamour to the day too and allowed the ladies to combine golf with shopping, thanks Ahye and your team. All of these contributions created outstanding value for all players enjoying the event.
Thanks most of all to Tee Setters and guests for bringing your spirit and energy, that’s what makes it. As usual, some stories of the day can be told and others best remain untold.

We announced annual award winners and Clyde Wickiser Best Clubman (Roger) last week in advance, but got some photos with most of them on the day. Thanks to Geoff for choosing and donating all of the trophies this year and constructing the podium, which added some flare to the presentations.
The skills prizes, open to all, come first with the following winners (apologies, not all are covered in the photos, and Richard is a bit further down):
First Par >=30 handicap: shared by the dynamic duo – King (who parred) and Pascal (who birdied) # 7 – as usual the two cannot be separated.
First Sandy: Pieter Nielen-Groen #4, dug himself out of this one
First Eagle: Andy Coop #7, sharp shooting Andy
First Birdie: Fernando #1, El Guapo strikes again
Low Putts: Juju 27 on count back from Craig Ewers and Andrew Deane
Long Drive #2: Shawn and Juju, both with monsters
Long Drive #18: Richard Raja and Iris, both no stranger to this prize
NTP #4: Wayne, regular sharp shooter
NTP #7 Murthy, always in the winners’ circle
NTP #12: Philip Shaferdieck, one of our great sponsors
NTP # 17: Dave Prosser, known for his long hitting but showing finesse this time

Now to explain again, to qualify for the Champion (Low Net), Runner Up and Third, and the George Bevege Low Gross, players had to have played 5 rounds with Tee Set through the year; this has always been a rule. However, the players with the lowest gross (Richard -77) and lowest net (Meyer – 64) on the day had not qualified and were awarded prizes, but were not eligible for the trophies. Congratulations to Richard and Meyer for your fine play, please play with us more often.

We invited reigning champ, Cucu Chandra, to present the trophies. Both low net and low gross awards required a countback, which is always tough in the middle of a party, but after some filling by the MC and some calculations by the brain’s trust, third place was confirmed for Murthy (69), Fernando took second on 68, and with the same score and the Tee Set Champion for 2021, was Eric Mary.
Congratulations Eric!!!! Eric was one of the proud group that we named the Bali Wanderers who participated in Tee Set Global and kept our record of not missing a weekend alive when Jakarta courses were closed.

Low gross (George Bevege trophy) was equally as tight with two scores of 78: two time former winner, Richard, narrowly edged out on count back by Dave. Congratulations Dave Prosser, capping off a solid year of golf.

That wraps up the day, it’s taken this long for your scribe to recover. Another Championship, and a bloody good one. Gading Raya next week, post to follow, register on the app.
Tee Set Election
A normal item of business at Championships is the annual election of a President or Committee.
Last year a Committee was elected and elected Bill Lloyd as Chair. Bill and the Committee were thanked for an outstanding job during the very difficult 2021 year, when sound judgement and no small degree of creativity was required.
Moving into 2021, there was one nominee for the position of President, Geoff Thwaites, who the membership endorsed uncontested through a show of hands. Best wishes to Geoff as he steers us through what no doubt will be another successful Tee Set year. Geoff will now form a Commitee among willing volunteers.
Geoff provided a few words on his vision for the next year and we’ll communicate more of that in due course through the blog.
He has been a huge part of the Tee Set story and is keen to help out with his time, energy and ideas for the next year, supported by Adhe our Admin and as many Tee Setters who are also keen to help.
Reminder: Saturday 27th November, 2021 Tee Set Championships, Cengkareng

Yes it’s happening. Despite a slow start to registrations and so many Tee Setters still overseas we have over 100 players registered for Saturday, and it’s shaping up as an absolute cracker.
On the day, it will be a battle for Champion, Runner Up, Third and the George Bevege Low Gross, along with the skill prizes. At least that’s for those who are focused on golf…..
For now, we can annouce our annual prize winners, those who consistently performed over the year. Thanks to our stats man Keith for compiling the tables for us all the way from Liverpool, and Ric and Bebe for maintaining the database, noting a few disruptions in data this year as we transitioned to the app.
As Tee Set is a net golf society, lets kick off with…..
Low Average Net 2021: Winner: Roger Finnie (71.5); Runner Up: Girauv Shirke (72.1); Leading Lady: Juju Juhaeriah (73.1)

Low Average Gross 2021: Winner: Matt Timbrell (79.0); Runner Up: Andrew Deane (79.3) – this one was so tight it came down to the last round. Photo now found for Andrew!!!!
Iron Man (Most Rounds): Geoff Thwaites – 34, pictured here ready to pounce, the evergreen whisperer, 76 and going strong.
Cross Dresser (Most Skirts): Michael Muller -7 (a skirt is awarded for not reaching the ladies tee; we stopped skirts midway through this year – well you know why – but Michael already had enough to qualify).

A special mention too to the Tee Set Global winners, those who managed to play overseas and on courses which were open when those in Jakarta were closed. This protected Tee Set’s record of never missing a weekend, so thanks to our global heroes! In particular, the Bali Wanderers (below) and the winner of our 2000th event, which was played as Tee Set Global, the one and only Axel Hertzke.
Now before I sign off and get ready for Saturday……a special shout out to Ric who will miss his first Tee Set Championships since Cleopatra was a girl…. all the best mate!!

See you Saturday – first Bloody Mary 830……group photo and briefing 1130…Tee Off – shotgun 12…finish whenever.
Sunday 21st November: Imperial Golf Klub (with a K)

Rising above some fairly low scores to scoop the prizes, were this rogue’s gallery of winners, led in triumphant pose by George, who won the event with 38 points on a countback from Diarmuid, with evergreen Geoff in third. Simon took low gross with a very strong 76.
As usual Imperial were terrific hosts, and have now taken their famous frozen Margaritas to a new level with upgraded agave Tequila. We will definitely get back there before the end of year. The eclectic event is still running but we need to tally up scores so we can let you know where you stand before the final round. It is fittingly our ugliest of all trophies, and you would join some very past eclectic winners, including three unique Canadians, a Czech, and Italian, and Indian, a Thai, a Philippino, a Brit, a Finn, an American and a pair of Aussie battlers (for a history lesson see here).
Next Up: Saturday – yes Saturday 27th November, 2021- Tee Set Championships, Cengkareng, 11.30am
Now this deserves it’s own post, so stay tuned. It’s shaping up as an amazing day. Having tasted Pradeep’s tikka wraps last night, I will be hoping to get a shotgun start draw near Tee Box 4, where they will be waiting for us. That’s of course after one of Bob’s Hot Dogs, one of Jamal’s Bloody Mary’s and at least one of Jack’s Smoothies.
In the post, we will also announce the annual award winners for Low Net Average (1st and 2nd), Low Gross Average (1st and 2nd), Most Rounds Played (Ironman), Cross Dresser of the Year (Most Skirts)….all winners will be recognised on Saturday and given prizes. We stopped recognising skirts during the restrictions but the winner had accumulated enough by then to qualify so will be fittingly honoured.
Sunday 14th November, 2021: BSD

Congratulations this week to Karl for leading the field in with 43 points, as great score on this course. A trim down, buffed Bill came in next with 41, with Hitoshi close behind on 40 points. The ever sharp and smiling Richard shot 76 to win low gross. Sally again led the ladies in with 35 points, another great result from Sally. Thanks to Adhe for all her support this week. Full results here.
The report is a quickie this week….we are focusing on championships preparations, so not a moment to spare. Thanks to Roger and your Committee for all the work on this – to those who haven’t signed up yet, what’s wrong with ya….don’t miss a great day out.
Before moving on though, here’s a shot of one of our great Tee Set Global supporters and former Tee Set Champion, Santi “Mrs Pie”, with our former Prez and future Tee Set Champion (!!!), braving the cold for a round in Liverpool during Roger’s recent whirlwind trip to the UK.
Roger’s whole year has been a whirlwind, this his 60th year, but despite all the challenges, he has put Tee Set first so many times, and your Committee is delighted to announce him as this year’s Clyde Wickiser Clubman of the Year for all his work arranging the schedule, maintaining relations with the courses, setting the pairings each week, organising the Championships and everything else he does. Of course it follows on from three years of Presidency, when he also worked his butt off, so thanks mate!!!
This award is normally presented at the Tee Set Birthday Scramble, but we could not celebrate that this year, so the award will be presented with other trophies on Championship Day. However, we felt this award was worthwhile announcing especially in advance, and it’s too hard to keep a secret.
Next Up: Sunday 21st November, 2021: Imperial Golf Klub (with a K)
We are back to the next round of the annual eclectic at Imperial, gents off the whites. Always a great day out at Imperial, as many of us found out last Thursday at the Jakarta Hotels Association event, what a show, still recovering! Only the Tee Set Championships comes close!
Sign up on MyGolf2U, there are still plenty of slots. And sign up for the Championships, come on.
