Sunday 14th November, 2021: BSD

Congratulations this week to Karl for leading the field in with 43 points, as great score on this course. A trim down, buffed Bill came in next with 41, with Hitoshi close behind on 40 points. The ever sharp and smiling Richard shot 76 to win low gross. Sally again led the ladies in with 35 points, another great result from Sally. Thanks to Adhe for all her support this week. Full results here.

The report is a quickie this week….we are focusing on championships preparations, so not a moment to spare. Thanks to Roger and your Committee for all the work on this – to those who haven’t signed up yet, what’s wrong with ya….don’t miss a great day out.

Before moving on though, here’s a shot of one of our great Tee Set Global supporters and former Tee Set Champion, Santi “Mrs Pie”, with our former Prez and future Tee Set Champion (!!!), braving the cold for a round in Liverpool during Roger’s recent whirlwind trip to the UK.

Roger’s whole year has been a whirlwind, this his 60th year, but despite all the challenges, he has put Tee Set first so many times, and your Committee is delighted to announce him as this year’s Clyde Wickiser Clubman of the Year for all his work arranging the schedule, maintaining relations with the courses, setting the pairings each week, organising the Championships and everything else he does. Of course it follows on from three years of Presidency, when he also worked his butt off, so thanks mate!!!

This award is normally presented at the Tee Set Birthday Scramble, but we could not celebrate that this year, so the award will be presented with other trophies on Championship Day. However, we felt this award was worthwhile announcing especially in advance, and it’s too hard to keep a secret.

Next Up: Sunday 21st November, 2021: Imperial Golf Klub (with a K)

We are back to the next round of the annual eclectic at Imperial, gents off the whites. Always a great day out at Imperial, as many of us found out last Thursday at the Jakarta Hotels Association event, what a show, still recovering! Only the Tee Set Championships comes close!

Sign up on MyGolf2U, there are still plenty of slots. And sign up for the Championships, come on.

News Flash!!! Tee Set Championships, Saturday 27th November 2021

Before we publish results from Sunday, we wanted to get your attention.

This was the turnout last year….very bloody good in the circumstances, all safe, all had a great time.

It’s only 12 days away and we only have 56 sign ups for the Championships, out of 88 places currently reserved with the club.

I know most of us only think a week ahead, but now is the time to sign up on MyGolf2U, or the club will start opening up slots for members. So get a wriggle on if you haven’t signed up!!

This is the event that we pour the accumulated balance of your fees and the generous contributions of our sponsors (listed below) into. With restrictions largely lifted, it will be a great event….and Geoff and Kojo are kindly providing some impressive trophies to take home for the winners.

I knew that would appeal to you trophy hunters out there!!!

To those not so confident on their golf and just looking for a great day out with friends, we have paid special attention to the food and beverages – Jack’s Asia Serv smoothies are back, Bob’s Hot Hed hot dogs are back, we may even have some Indian fare to spice up the after match. As usual Dan and San Miguel are helping us with beers, but we will be watching you hoarders squirrelling away the stock. The Bloody Mary’s will of course be back, along with many of your favourite other weaknesses. There will be door prizes and some very classy giveaways.

The point is, whether it’s trophies, parties or giveaways that float your boat, get on it and register!!!

Sponsors: Asian Tigers (thanks Bill), Schenck Process (thanks Mick), LF Logistics (thanks Andy), Mayapada Health Care (thanks Roger), JS Luwansa (thanks Richard), Loesche (thanks Philip), Kojo (thanks Geoff), AsiaServ (thanks Jack), Sumo Caddy (thanks Pablo) and Hot Hed (thanks Bob).

Sunday 7th November, 2021: Gading Raya

Another great turnout with 40 players registered and 36 submitting scores on MyGolf2U, which prompts a reminder for all players to enter their scores. This drives handicaps, which are used across different golf societies and now in many other events. Lightning and rain delayed play and some players, not necessarily Tee Setters, chose to stay under shelter and not let groups through, which slowed play down for many of our groups.

The event was stableford format and Tee Set is a net golf society, which means net scores are recognised first. When a sharp shooter like Richard has best net (stableford) score and equal low gross, it can cause a little confusion, but this is how the results should read:

First – Best Stableford Score – Richard 41 points

Second – Carol 39 points

Third – Jiro 38 points

Low Gross – Andrew 74 (noting Richard had the same gross but cannot win twice)

Well done to all winners and to Carol for leading in the ladies. Prizes will be honoured and any gaps will be made up next week.

Pace of Play

With rain now interrupting most rounds and limiting daylight time, we need to ask players again to be super conscious of pace of play, with the standard tips to speed up your rounds:

  1. Play ready golf – if you are ready to hit your ball and it is safe to do so, then play when ready
  2. Be ready when it’s your tee shot and limit your pre-shot routine, two practice swings max
  3. Play a provisional ball if there is any doubt at all about finding your tee shot
  4. Read your putts on your way to the ball and while your playing partners are putting – obviously staying still while they putt.
  5. If it’s stableford, pick up after you have no chance of scoring a point, and perhaps most importantly
  6. keep up with the group in front, not the team behind!!!

Next Up: Sunday 14th November, 2021: Damai Indah – BSD Course (Bumi Serpong Damai)

One of the Golden Bear’s great Indonesian courses – every hole well designed. It is a very long course, so Gents play off the white tees.

Please have all documentation ready as usual for entry as they are strict. Green fees are slightly higher than usual, still capped at 1 juta, and represent value for money.

Registrations are now open on MyGolf2U, with 23 slots currently available. Get on it!!!

Correction: Longest Drive

Quick but important correction Murthy was the Long Drive Mens winner on Sunday. Not sure what happened there….

Sunday 31st October, 2021: Tee Set Monthly Medal, Cengakareng

Continuing his brilliant 2021 tournament form, Jeremy added the October Tee Set Monthly Medal to his collection of trophies with a fine round of 68 net (82 gross). Well done Jeremy and a welcome return to Tee Set presentations with MC Bill ready to give out.

Second with 69 was Velma, leading the ladies in, followed by Indar in third with 70. Andrew had the lowest gross for the day with 78. Longest drive for men went to Murthy (267m), for ladies went to Christine (133m). Nearest to the pin was James (535cm).

Overall we were limited to 48 in the field due to bookings and capacity restrictions, so sadly a few missed out, but that’s unlikely to happen again now restrictions have been lifted again.

Apart from the winners, scoring was tough with only 6 players shooting par or better. No doubt, Cengkareng will be hosting many more Tee Setters in the coming weeks as they get in sneaky practice rounds for the Championships on Saturday 27th.

A special presentation went to MJ for winning the Monthly Medal last month, when we were still prevented from conducting presentations. As you will note, the chandelier has not been cropped in this shot, nor have Bill’s flip flops, both are left in frame as design icons to match the September winner’s iconic stature. He is the only player since past President Pastis to maintain the two tone, one colour ensemble every week.

Arnold has certainly made a good run for it a few times and Christine and Rav are no shabby dressers, but MJ consistently performs. With the Championships emerging and Pastis returning for a cameo, who knows what gems will come out on 27 September. There will be a prize!

Thanks to Geoff and Kojo as usual for sponsoring the Monthly Medal event.

Now, before we move on, players may have noticed that the eagle challenge on Hole 9 was down to a miserly 10 juta Rp. The reason was that Richard’s playing partner during the week, not Richard, took out the jackpot of 200 juta.

Next Up: Sunday 7 November 2021, Gading Raya

Lowongan dan Karier Gading Raya Padang Golf & Klub, Ulasan

Every time we have played Gading Raya this year, the club has delivered great golf and a fun day out. If you have not registered, then please go to the app. There are 9 slots left and we may be able to open more.

Correction: Results from Sunday at Riverside

A quick but sincere apology to Riccardo for ruling him out of prizes on Sunday. He took it on the chin like a true gentleman but we had a few questions, so your committee reviewed handicap records during the week and realised he did indeed qualify. We will sort it out with you on Sunday, Ricardo!!! Prizes already awarded will be honoured! All good….

Reminder: Sunday 28th October 2021 Monthly Medal, Cengkareng

BIGGEST TROPHIES IN SPORTS | Jackson Trophies

Ok ok the monthly medal is not that big a trophy, but it has massive bragging rights attached. If you haven’t registered then please go to the app.

And now, for a plug for an event many of you might be interested in, especially if your short game is better than mine. It is a great fun event referred to us by one of our favourite occasional golf and drinking partners, Figo. It is a course set up on a playing field…also used as a cricket ground to those who know that curious game. As you can imagine, it’s more about fun than golf, but it makes an attempt to combine the two.

And while we are on events…..the most intense of them all – 45 holes in a day – hosted by Tee Set sponsor Asian Tigers – is on tomorrow – still time if you want to play….. best wishes to all involved!!

Sunday 24th October 2021, Riverside

Our Main Lobby - Picture of Riverside Golf Club, Bogor - Tripadvisor

Late posting this week. Live music has returned in Jakarta and your scribe is back singing.

Thanks to Geoff and Adhe for organising things on Sunday. A free flowing round, a smaller field than we have had in recent weeks with 28 players, and some very good golf played.

Prizes for the best three stableford scores were awarded to Geoff (third on 38), George (second on 39) and the winner, Ezra (also on 39 but winning on countback). Ricardo also shot a great score but had not yet qualified for a handicap so will be sure to be in future awards.

Dave had the lowest gross at 81, thanks to a brilliant front nine 35 with three birdies. On course reporting indicated that there was no magic potion involved in the collapse, only one blow out 9, more shots than those three birdie holes combined. Leading in the ladies this week was Juju with 32 points.

Next Up: Sunday 31st October 2021, Tee Set Monthly Medal, Cengkareng

After carrying the burden of Monthly Medallist for a month now, MJ is ready to put his title on the line, try to find his swing, and if not, try to find his ball, as he defends his title among a strong field. There are still three slots left in the field of 44, although we may be able to ask for more if demand is there.

Note that this will be the final Monthly Medal for this Tee Set year, kindly sponsored by Geoff and Kojo. The Tee Set official year runs between Tee Set Championships each November, where we start everything afresh….well sort of, you dont go for this long without keeping some continuity.

The Championships on Saturday November 27th will replace the Monthly Medal for that month.

This means that the event this Sunday is prestigious, very bloody prestigious. It is a net event, not stableford, so all shots count. Gents off blues tees, ladies off red.

Reminder: Sunday 24th October 2021, Riverside

Riverside Golf Club in Cimanggis, Jawa Barat, Indonesia | Golf Advisor

A quick reminder that we will be playing Riverside on Sunday. The first tee time will now be 11.35am. Our Admin, Adhe, will be there to collect fees and assist with running the event.

Gents will be off preferred tees – you can choose blue or white. The app is pre-set for white, which is our norm for Riverside due to Interleague – so if you want to select blue and cannot do it yourself, please let Roger know and he will do it for you.

It needs to be right to make sure your handicap is accurate. Format is stableford. Prizes will be awarded for the top three scores and the low gross.

Sunday 17th October, 2021 Gunung Geulis

Royal Tulip Gunung Geulis Resort and Golf, Puncak | 2021 Updated Prices, Deals

A magic weekend away, with 48 players joining golf on Sunday. While the thunder bellowed at us from around the hills and a few drops of rain came down, we all escaped getting drenched and finished the round.

The format was individual stableford with the best three scores in each flight added to form a team score. With teams adopting their own names, like the Studmuffins, it added a bit of fun and competition to the day.

It’s a tough course and many struggled but not long standing Tee Set member and sponsor Bob Fleischmann who racked up 43 points to win the individual comp and carry his team – Jude, Dan and Emil – to victory. Bob had slipped out before presentations, but his team enjoyed the winnings, and we will catch up with Bob next time. Kudos to the ladies today with Sally (40) and Octa (39) taking second and third prizes. Andrew had the lowest gross with 74. Great open air area at Gunung Geulis so for the first time in a long time, we were able to do a brief presentation, with Bill upfront and personal.

We still have prizes for last week’s round at Imperial in envelopes when we catch up with you….sorry, it was all a bit hectic this week, as the Commitee steered between family responsibilities, gin, champagne and red wine over the weekend. It was good to get out.

Next Up: Sunday 24th October, 2021

Always a beautiful drive through the jungle and a solid test of golf, Riverside hosts us this week, as they have many times before. Riverside requires a thoughtful approach to golf, a balance of attack and defence. And if you can’t be bothered with that, just enjoy the company and counting your shots. Register on the app.

A big thanks to Roger who has been organising all our rounds, including the sensitive discussions with host clubs and safe travels for your return to the UK mate. See you back for the Championships!!

Tee Set Championships, Saturday 27th November 2021

Don’t forget it is a Saturday afternoon event!!!!! Your Committee is finalising arrangements for what will be a great day at Cengkareng. You can register on the app now, as 21 already have. Best to get in quick as we do have a limit on numbers.

As expected, this is our premier event and we return the accumulated fees plus some generous sponsor money to you for this event. Of course we will be a bit restrained….but it will be good.

The grand tradition of Bob’s Hot Hed hot dogs and Jack’s AsiaServ smoothies will be there as always. Thanks to Bob and Jack for your generous sponsorship as always, two absolute gentlemen!!! A shout out to Neil in Australia, perhaps the most passionate fan of Jack’s smoothies, we will miss you this year mate, but then again it means more smoothies for us. Former Prez Pascal of http://pascmusic.1dunia.net/quick-access will be back for the Championship, playing with the King for the cup and bringing his timeless tunes along to accompany our after match stretches, which worked a treat last year….very loose.

Geoff Thwaites and his company, Kojo, sponsor our Monthly Medal event and our weekly admin support, and are kindly sponsoring the take home trophies this year. A big thanks to Bill and Asian Tigers, Mick and Schenck Process, Richard and JS Luwansa and Andy and LF Logistics again for pledging sponsorship, as well as Dan the Beer Man and Anker. ABV are helping us out with booze and JIIB with some goodies to give away. Thanks to Roger and Mayapada for sponsorship and providing the ambulance, just in case there are any dance floor injuries. Not joking, there have been a few over the years….

Of course, we are always open to more sponsors and it’s a great way to contribute to Tee Set and connect to others. Please contact any of our Committee if you wish to sponsor; we can work with you to make it work. I will give you lots of plugs in upcoming editions, or, if you prefer a lower profile, I am happy to plant subliminal references so people appreciate you without knowing it’s you. Yep, the magic of communications.
