First of all a big Happy New Year!!! Good riddance 2020. We know most Tee Setters are still away, but for those in town, join us for a trip down Tee Set memory lane to our former home course, Pangkalan Jati. Numbers will be low, which will hopefully make for a quick round, and more chance of winning.
Good news for the budget conscious and the course walkers – the price for walking is only 550k. Price with carts is 680k, a whopping 5k more than advertised. First tee time 11.30am. Men off the blues, ladies off the reds as usual. Register here.
As expected at this time of year, a more select group of 26 Tee Setters gathered at Gading Raya. We welcomed Geoff’s long time friend and colleague, Pak Harmidin, for the first time. DOGS stalwart, Rod, returned to Tee Set after 298 weeks away to celebrate his 65th birthday with golf and single malt – happy birthday mate!! Big welcomes back also to one of Tee Set’s longest playing members, Norman Bunter, recently returned from the UK after 90 weeks away, to our favourite Thai Guy, Jaturoporn (Bas), and to Gimmy after 50 weeks away. Welcome back too to Joe Alchi after 57 weeks and well done for carding the first par for the 30+ handicappers.
Mike Riley featured prominently in photos this week, firstly for his athletic swing, winning most improved (also known as last to wake up) and of course playing his part after having a “skirt”. Bas wisely went missing for that shot!
The weather started hot and sunny then clouded over but storms held off until the end of play, perhaps the Pawang Hujan is making a comeback (??).
The Play
Continuing some great recent form, James (66 net, 77 gross) and Geoff (65 net, 84 gross) won Low Net A and B Grade and KD came through for the C Graders with a very handy net 67. Andy Coop had flown the coop before he could collect his cash for Low Gross, with his 80 off the stick. I think it went to drinks, thanks Andy!!!
The ladies were not going to miss out on their share of the cash, with Rosie carding the first birdie and Reni winning Low Putts with 28…both look happy about it too!!!
Meanwhile in a beautiful island to the east, Tee Setters were shooting some decent scores at New Kuta, Bali National and Handara, Bill Lloyd cleaning up most of the winnings. A few shots from Handara here:
Next Up: Sunday 3 January, Pangkalan Jati, 11.30am
Back to what used to be Tee Set’s home base for the first round of the 2021 calendar year. Yes, before Geoff, Pete and Ric took Tee Set on the road (read your history), PJ was where most of our rounds were played. For a special taste of club history, make the short trip to the suburbs of the south. Play will be off the blue tees for men. Green fees are 675k including carts (to be confirmed). First tee time will be 11.30am. Register here as usual.
White Tees or Blues Tees for Men
Only 39 players have responded to our survey on white tees versus blue tees. This is less than an average Tee Set round, so we are keeping the survey open for a bit longer, realising people are on holidays. The Committee will make a decision in January. If you have not had your say, please do so here, or forever hold your peace.
While many Tee Setters have gone home for the break or are battling it out with each other in Bali, the official Tee Set final round of the calendar year will be played at Gading Raya, off the blue tees for men, first tee time 11.32.
From our Tee Set family to yours, a safe and happy Christmas 2020!!!!
With most of our fold already on holidays, 21 Tee Setters joined the “Christmas Blind Pairs” event at Riverside. A big welcome back to Sam after we thought we’d lost him. Sam is one of Tee Set’s finest golfers and best guys, and was clearly shaking off jetlag or a big night or both on his front nine of 47, before coming home strong with a 35.
The event was a good way to mix it up and get some Christmas cheer going. At stake, bottles of wine, which went to the top three pairs: Jari and Richard tied with Dave and Robson on 46 points and Geoff and Axel on 44 points. Our own version of Santa, Michael, somehow managed to find the wine left at the bottom of the chimney. No wine was seen leaving the club.
As always, the extremes of golf were on show at the Greg Norman designed course, and Tee Setters came in from the course to enjoy the open air clubhouse, great company…. and wine. Lots more photos here.
Blue Tees or White Tees: Have Your Say!
So far, we have about 25 Tee Setters who have indicated their preference, thank you!
For the rest of us, it’s now time to put up or shut up…….voting closes 31 December, so we can move ahead with a decision for 2021.
Note that, whatever the result, the Monthly Medal and Tee Set Championships will always be played off the blue (championship) tees. Similarly, some events, including rounds at Jagorawi which are subject to a club rule, will be played off white (social) tees. So, this vote is for which tee to use for “normal” Tee Set rounds in between special events and monthly medals.
Next Up: Sunday 27 December 2020, Gading Raya
The last round of the calendar year wil be played at Gading Raya, off the blue tees for men, first tee time 11.32. Green fees 850,000Rp including carts.
And a big thank you to James Bristow, who has agreed to join your committee as Events Co-ordinator….welcome aboard James.
Still lots of jobs to do for anyone who wants to participate, even if to organise one event through the year, just let Bill or James know and they will gladly accept your help.
In what has become a tradition up there with Secret Santa gifts and egg nog, the Christmas Blind Pairs event will be held off the white tees at Riverside next Sunday.
Pairs will be drawn from a Christmas hat, which will then be given to pairs to wear. The format will be stableford scoring, two ball better ball. This means you write down stableford points for each of you then, on each hole, you write in the best score for that hole as your team score. Bottles of wine will go to the winning teams.
We want your opinion on this. Tee Set Championships and Monthly Medals will continue to be played off the blue tees for men, but we are considering shifting other weeks to the white tees. Please have your say here.
Handicaps
We are working to speed up the updating of handicaps. We will continue to receive cards submitted on Sundays or you can email details of your non-Tee Set rounds to teesetcards@gmail.com, including:
Name, Date, Course Played, Tee Box, Gross Score, Adjusted Gross Score (no need for your card).
To calculate your adjusted gross score, you adjust your worst holes to the maximum score for your handicap, according to this table from USGA, and re-tally your score.
For example, I play off 16 handicap and I shoot 88 with an 8 and a 9. These scores get adjusted to 7 and my adjusted gross score becomes 85. Richard plays off 9 and he shoots 79 with a triple bogey, well that gets adjusted to a double bogey and his adjusted gross score becomes 78. Pascal playing off 32, shoots 102 with one 10 and one 11, these are adjusted to 9 and his adjusted gross score is 99.
As DOGS are moving their handicapping and scoring online, from 1 January we will have different handicapping sytems again, so Tee Setters who play DOGS will need to submit details of their DOGS rounds to maintain their Tee Set, USGA handicap.
Everything else you need to know about handicaps can be found here.
Juju defends her title, carrying over the monthly medal between Tee Set Golf years, most probably a first.
The Day
Cengkareng continue to provide a safe and well managed day of golf and 50 Tee Setters took advantage of a rain free day to shoot some good scores and enjoy excellent company. For the first time, prizes were doubled to 200K, so lots of happy golfers. Lots of birdies too, including one not so fortunate swallow on the 15th, laid to rest after being collected by one of Ric’s more potent shots. The Javanese dove that Stefan was chasing down the 18th managed to get away. Long drive winner and avid bird watcher, Simon Reynolds, was no doubt also cataloguing some rare breeds in between practice swings. Labouring the birdie theme, the singing and whispering Presidents went head to head, starting with birdies, with Geoff carding his best ever nine hole score of 39 (24 points) and Craig not too far behind with 41 (22 points). They both eventually fell off the perch.
A big welcome back to Hari after 368 weeks and a big welcome back to the JAWS guys after 1 week, great guys, great golfers. Welcome back also to our Secretary Beby after staying safe for the last few months and welcome Steven Shih.
The Play
Well done Juju for continuing great recent form and defending the Monthly Medal. Juju was also among four tied for the lead for the eclectic competition, played over four monthly medal rounds, together with Craig, Arnold and Jude (not in the photo).
Now, this was going to be our last Tee Set eclectic round. Reason being, DOGS have a great eclectic event as their standard format and the calculations require some brains. However, with a four way tie, we needed a way to find one winner, so decided there will be a playoff at the next monthly medal at Cengkareng at the end of January. All four winners will be paired together in the pressure cooker that will be the Eclectic Playoff. If there is still a tie, the winner will be decided on low net for the day, and if still tied, will be decided by the normal competition countback process.
Taking out net prizes were Sami (A grade), Lis (B grade) and Malcolm (C Grade). Malcolm (in green here) has come in and out of Indonesia and played with Tee Set regularly over the last 7 years, and is goin home to the UK, so we wish you well mate. You know where to find a game if you are back. Tim Knight won low gross, after another four way tie, but Ric unleashed the krakoen and determined a winner. Tim, you should have been awarded 200k and you will be next week when we see you.
But before we go, we all like a good skirt photo and there were many not reaching the ladies tee today….including three committee members, a Club Champion, a Runner Up, a Big Dog and a dove chaser….
Four Way Inter Society Competition – Matoa, Saturday 12th December.
To co-incide with DOGS penultimate eclectic round and POCKSIA and SMOGS’ final events for the year, a competition was staged involving these three, and Tee Set because they heard there would be drinks afterwards….and there were.
At stake was honour, glory and (very limited) bragging rights. The format was far too interesting to be described accurately here and involved ranking of stableford scores on each hole, awarding points based on rank and totalling points at the end of the round. With so much overlap between the societies, it was just as hard to choose sides as it was to choose a winner, but it was done and Tee Set came through with 22 1/2 points. Thanks to DOGS, Pocksia and SMOGS for a terrific day.
Next Up – Sunday 20th December 2020, Riverside Christmas “Blind Pairs” Event
In what has become a tradition up there with Secret Santa gifts and egg nog, the Christmas Blind Pairs event will be held off the white tees at Riverside next Sunday.
Pairs will be drawn from a Christmas hat, which will then be given to pairs to wear. The format will be stableford scoring, two ball better ball. This means you write down stableford points for each of you then, on each hole, you write in the best score for that hole as your team score. Bottles of wine will go to the winning teams.
The first Monthly Medal round of the new golf year will be held at Cengkareng. The Monthly Medal is the premium monthly competition played off the blue tees (men) and red tees (women) in the stableford format. Everyone welcome.
Tee off is at 12 noon off Tee Box 1 and 10.
To sign up for the Monthly Medal, please click here.
UPDATE ON TEE SET COMMITTEE
At the Tee Set Championships, a Committee consisting of Bill Lloyd, David (Bags) Baglivo and former Presidents Geoff Thwaites, Ric Wymer and Craig Ewers was nominated and endorsed by the membership to manage Tee Set for the next year, assign roles between them, recruit other members as required and nominate a Chair. After two meetings, the Committee has agreed that Bill Lloyd is Commitee Chair.
The Committee will share responsibility for roles within Tee Set, with Ric continuing to co-ordinate Sunday competitions, Bags co-ordinating the matchplay, Craig publishing the blog and Bill and Geoff dividing other duties and opening participation up to others. A big thanks to outgoing President Roger Finnie and Craig Edwards too for agreeing to help out as needed, and to Keith Miller for all his work in maintaining our website and databases.
It’s all too big a job for one person and we wanted a more open sharing of workload. Co-ordinators will be nominated for certain special events. A professional secretary will be recruited and paid from the contributions you make each week and from other societies who pay for Tee Set to administer handicapping under the USGA system. This will allow us all to enjoy what Tee Set offers: great golf, great courses, great prices, awesome people.
In other decisions, the Committee has increased the weekly prizes to 200,000 Rp. Winners must be present to collect the prize, or it stays in the pool. In the case of a tie, there will only be a countback if players involved are still there for the presentation ceremony, otherwise the prize will be awarded to the player who is present.
We are considering a few other changes and will ask you about them before we move ahead. The 2021 schedule will be announced in the next fortnight.
Inaugural Tee Set vs JAWS Team Matchplay Challenge
We’ll start with this because it really was the highlight of the day and a great first event to have for the new (golf) year, which included 29 of the 38 players registered by Tee Set on the day. Terrific job by both captains, Simon and Tralok, for scraping their teams together, given a few last minute no-shows. And, in a sign of the times, it provided no shortage of post-result drama….
Teeset players are always up for a challenge, so when the new kids on the block JAWS threw down the gauntlet, the offer was too exciting a prospect to decline, game on. To be fair it was more like a family pillow fight, with lots of overlap between the two societies.
Teeset Captain Simon Reynolds and JAWS Captain Tarlok Singh went about their business to select their 20 best (and available), golfing members to fly their societies’ flags into battle with pride amongst the jungles of Jagorawi New Course and the question was: Would it be the JAWS Sharks or Teeset Team swimming to victory down the Cikeas River after 18 holes of matchplay golf?
Match 1: Wait, more later…..
Match 2: Saw big hitter Mike Evangelista (14) and consistent Sunday performer Emil Marcelo (16) take on JAWS Captain Tarlok Singh (13) and Taufik Boenardi (21). The power and distance of Emil and the accuracy and short game guile of Mike was a winning competition with great balance.
TeeSet Win 3 & 2 (2 points)
Match 3: Team GB of Andy Coop (9) and David Prosser (10) vs JAWS Vice Captain Gaurav Shrike (10) and Nick Goodwin (15). Nick and David were booming 300 m drives but more of Nick’s found the fairway, and Team GB sruggled to get going and find any momentum, as Gaurav accurate as ever was throwing darts at the greens.
JAWS Win 5 & 4 (2 Points)
Match 4: The never ending contending Tim Knight (7) and James Bristow (12) took on Bayu (5) and Srivinas Murthy (14). With four quality golfers in one flight, the quality of golf was very high as the match swung from side to side and the match ended up all square as rain stopped play after 14 holes.
Match Drawn (1 Point a piece)
Match 5: Tee Set showed JAWS we had Finns of our own with Sami Kekkonen (15) and Jari (20) taking on Chris Lever (18) and Pras Sutowo (20). Sami fresh on form from a 64 nett in the championships played second fiddle to the veteran matchplayer Jari, whose many years as a JIL player with Sandbaggers proving pivitol as he navigated his wayward partner around the 18 holes of the Jagorawi’s jungle keeping his team ball in play.
TeeSet Win 2 & 1 (2 points)
Match 6: Teesetters Robert Watt (14) and hardy veteran and ex-President Geoff Thwaites (20) took on Interleague legend Iris Rothenburg (12) and Willi G (18). Robert and Geoff had their hands full playing two very experienced golfers in Iris and Willi. Iris knows every nook and cranny of the New Course, played solid as ever and Willi chipped in consistently. The match was won on Iris’s last putt.
JAWS Win 1 Up (2 points)
Match 7: Teeset Matchplay supremos David Baglivio (12) and Arnold Castillon (16) took on the JAWS players Bobby (11) and Parman (14). On paper, the Tee Set team looked strong but they met their match in two very crafty and skilful JAWS players.
JAWS Win 3 & 2 (2 points)
Match 8: Saw Douglas McQuater (14) and Fernando Gaggino (14) take on Yudi Laskito (15) and Avnish Patankar (24). Albeit giving a fair amount of strokes to the JAWS opposition, The course knowledge of long term Jagorawi member and JIL veteran El Guapo proved to canny for the JAWS Sharks who made one mistake too many.
TeeSet Win 3 & 2 (2 points)
Match 9: Teeset 2020 interleague Singles Stalwart and smooth swinging Swede Richard Berg (6) and the gritty and hardy Samret Raungit (11) were a great combination against JAWS organiser in chief, Divya (15) and Vijay (16). T
TeeSet Win 3 & 1 (2 points)
Match 10: Teeset Interleague Captain, Simon Reynolds (7) teamed up with Supachai (15) vs Randy Albert (10) and Arif (15) from JAWS. The game was played in great spirits even in the rain with laughs shared between lost balls and drops from the surrounding jungle. The Teeset Captain and straight shooter Supachai were uncharacterstically wayward off the tee and failed to capitalise from opponents mistakes when given with several missed putts costing them the match to the two sharp shooting Sharks.
And now back to Match 1……
Good friends and Teeset regulars Jude Alexander(19) and Dan Javier (20) took on JAWS players Imran (8) and Diana Budiarti (28). This was a high quality match with Diana maintaining strong form from the Tee Set championships, but, on review, the match was found to have not been in line with the competitition rules and was, by agreement of the societies, declared void.
FINAL RESULT: TeeSet 9 – 9 JAWS
A big thanks to the JAWs team for promoting and creating this new event, and for the integrity displayed on review of the match one result. A draw can be celebrated by both teams as good for Jakarta golf, and a lesson was learnt about being fully aware of the competition rules before play starts. Thanks and best wishes to all!!!!
Standard Competition
Played in parallel to the matches was the standard net strokeplay competition, with 38 players registered. Lots of newcomers – welcome to the Jaws family – and a big welcome back to Peter after 26 weeks away. All photos of the day here.
As usual for Jagorawi, tight scores and not a lot of birdies. Congratulations to net winners – A Grade – Fenando 71, B Grade – the evergreen Geoff Thwaites with 73, and Taufik (no Jaws is not his surname) in C Grade with 73. Randy (no… JAWS is not his real surname either) took low gross of 83. Congratulations to Ric for eventually earning most improved, before later disqualifying himself, recorded here as 9 strokes better score on his second nine but perhaps jumbled by the shotgun start and the stress of organising. All appreciated, Ric!!!!
Next Sunday 13 December 2020, 12 noon – Cengkareng – Monthly Medal
The first Monthly Medal round of the new golf year will be held at Cengkareng. The Monthly Medal is the premium monthly competition played off the blue tees (men) and red tees (women) in the stableford format. Everyone welcome.
Tee off is at 12 noon off Tee Box 1 and 10.
The Monthly Medal and Perpetual Trophy are donated by Geoff Thwaites and Kojo, and we thank them for their support over many years.
Please take notice of this Thursday’s reminder post, where we will update you on the status of the Tee Set leadership and advise next steps. Your committee has been meeting and we will have a resolution to bring to the members on Sunday.
To sign up for the Monthly Medal, please click here.
This week we visit the excellent Jagorawi Golf and Country Club and, in addition to being our usual weekly game, we will have the Tee Set team taking on JAWS in an inaugural match-up between the 2 Societies. A challenge shield has been invested in for the match and so we will be looking forward to a smiling Captain Simon Reynolds holding the trophy in Monday’s blog as he has put together a great line up to represent Tee Set.
The day will be played on the New Course and although tee time is 12.00pm officially, we are expecting to get off a little earlier and possibly with a shot-gun start so we ask all of you to be at the course before 11.00am please. We will play white tees this week for men/red for ladies and if you are interested to join us please sign up here. Price is Rp950k with carts.
Once again the resilient spirit of Tee Set was on show and the 2020 Championships charged ahead successfully at the Cengkareng Golf Club on Saturday; many thanks to Kurt, Olivia and the Cengkareng team for their effort in making our day so enjoyable.
In total, 107 players competed, teeing off in a shot-gun start from different tee boxes. Jamal’s pre-game Bloody Mary’s and Screwdrivers were a hit as usual and the yearly photo above (masks on this year!) presented its usual chaos.
The club did a great job with precautions and Tee Set players respected social distancing, even during some exuberant dancing near the end of the night, impossible to avoid when Pascal’s classic disco mix comes on.
The event is made possible through your registration fees and fines building up through the year and being spent at this and other special events, through generous sponsors, hard working helpers and your dedicated committee – Roger, Ric, Bill and exiled web guy, Keith Miller.
Jack Calcote and AsiaServ, as always, provided their ever popular smoothies and margarita machines, and Aisha did a great job as official photographer. Bob Fleischmann and the Hot Hed team provided sponsorship and the awesome hot dogs. Andy Coop’s LF Logistics and Mick Dodsworth’s Schenck Process sponsored cash and prizes, Dan Javier’s PT Delta provided cash and Anker and San Miguel product, which mysteriously evaporated over the day, Bill Lloyd and Asia Tigers as always with cash and prize hampers, the King of Hospitality, Richard Mau, provided smiles and low scores and JS Luwansa provided voucher prizes and the magnificent cake, Roger Finnie and Mayapada Group for cash support, medical check ups and the standby ambulance – which we are happy to say was not to be needed, Michael Seabrook and JIIB Financials for their sponsorship, Geoff Thwaites and Kojo as always for sponsoring the monthly medal throughout the year, Lis Wymer and Tupperware for the drink bottles in the goodie bags and Sumo Caddy for the very handy handuk (towels) in the goodie bags and very cool door prizes. Thanks to Stefan Thiele and Rooftop West, the safest live music venue in Jakarta – just above Museum Macan – for supplying more of the liquid ingredients that made the day flow.
Our appreciation too for our special helpers from Star Kemang – Wulan, Kephy and Rini – this for packing the goodie bags and ferrying refreshments around the course. And a big shout out to Beby for entering scorecards and managing handicaps throughout the season.
A big welcome to 9 newcomers to Tee Set (see below) and a big welcome back for many Tee Setters, but especially for Tuti after 366 weeks. Tuti also won most strokes on a hole, enjoying it so much she took 12 strokes to finish.
And a very special thanks to outgoing Tee Set President, Roger Finnie, after 3 1/2 years. Roger, with others, helped further integrate the Tee Set, DOGS and JAWS groups in Jakarta so we can move freely between them on one handicap system and regularly participated in all of them. He also enjoys playing with Pocksia and has been a huge supporter of Jakarta Interleague. He put together as accurate a history of Tee Set as is possible with the fading memories of the brains trust and he put a mountain of work into managing the society. Roger has handed over to a committee of 3 former Presidents, Ric Wymer, Geoff Thwaites and Craig Ewers, and 2 Tee Set legends, Dave Baglivo and Bill Lloyd. The Committee will assign roles, including a chair.
If you want to be represented in the running of Tee Set, then please volunteer for the Committee, you will be most welcome and there will be a role for you.
The Play
The course was in great shape and the weather was ideal. No excuses for those of us who had shocking starts, except perhaps that we could then relax and enjoy the smoothies, secure in being out of contention. For those still in it, there was suspense, skill with 2 (possibly 3) eagles, lots of tee shots very close to the pin and an impressive 290m (317 yard) drive to win longest drive (see below). But let’s get straight to it!!!!
2020 Champion – Cucu Chandra
At the end of the round, the golfers staggered in with one clear winner; our 2020 Tee Set Champion is Cucu Chandra for shooting a remarkable nett 61 which included 8 pars and a birdie, even overcoming a 9 on the par 4 hole 10th!
Cucu has been a regular part of Tee Set for many years, participating in many trips away and special events. She ranks this as the highlight of her life in Tee Set, perhaps even on a par with meeting Tom! Ever the gracious playing partner and gentleman Tom was the first to call for a handicap adjustment after Cucu’s round. Our champions over the years have come from all grades, reinforcing the fact that Tee Set is a nett golf society, and Cucu made every C Grader proud today!
2020 Low Gross Champion – Richard Mau maintained his brilliant Championship performances of the last few years by winning the George Bevage memorial trophy for Low Gross again, shooting 76, 7 under his handicap to narrowly edge out Tim Knight on 77, who is always in the hunt and created his chance with a fine eagle on the 18th hole.
Some other great rounds were good enough for prizes – Dave (Bags) Baglivo trumping other contenders to win A Grade with a fine nett 66; Sami leading the B Graders home with a nett 64 and Diana winning C Grade with a net 64, all very happy winners shooting great rounds on the right day. Not sure they got out with all their prizes, perhaps due to that mysteriously evaporating beer!
Dave Prosser traded power for finesse to take the first sandy par on his second hole played, Emiliano was the first of 28 birdies for the day on his first hole played and Aleksi either read the greens well or spent a lot of time chipping from the fringes for his winning 28 low putts.
Mike Riley carded the first par among the Over 30 handicappers, always a tough competition and Philip Schaferdieck came home strong, 14 strokes better than he went out in. Philip also won Nearest to the Pin on the 4th, Gaurav Shirke won NTP on both 8 and 17, Imran Harum was closest on 12. Longest hitters were Emiliano Marcelo with a monster 290 metres and Diana Budiarti, both on the second hole.
Here is the day’s scoring summary, full results are here.
Annual Competitions
As well as the Championship awards, we also recognise the winners of events that have been held through the Tee Set year.
Presented with the Ric Wymer Matchplay trophy by the man himself – Arnold Castillon, with his worthy opponent, Mark Johnson.
2020 Matchplay Champion – Arnold Castillon – and Runner Up – Mark Johnson
Thanks again to Matchplay Supremo, James Ross, for organising the competition through the year, always tricky with scheduling.
2020 Eclectic Winners – Tom Grace and Jari Antikaenin
The eclectic competition was started in 2015, held on monthly medal rounds. Tom and Jari may be the last winners as we plan to discontinue this format next year.
It’s been fun but now that we are more integrated with other groups, we feel that the DOGS group have a great eclectic event every week and we want to give priority to the monthly medal when it is held.
Monthly Medal winners for the year were also honoured again and Geoff Thwaites and Kojo were thanked for providing the trophies each month.
A full range of statistics were provided, thanks as usual to our mysterious Web Guy for his painstaking adherence to data integrity, and these allowed us to award prizes for Lowest Average Gross over the Year – Simon Reynolds – with 23 rounds played for an average gross score of 80.7, Lowest Average Nett over the Year – Roger Finnie – with 36 rounds played for an average nett score of 73.3. Roger also took out lowest average puts with 28.7 per round. As usual, our stalwart Ric Wymer won the Iron Man with the most rounds played, 47, lower than his usual because of a bout of dengue fever.
Out of respect to all who had a great time and don’t deserve to be judged for it, we have decided to be discreet and not feature event photos on the blog this year. What we would like to say is thank you all for your relative restraint , your respect for others in this difficult time, and your commitment to this fantastic society. Tee Set is an incredibly diverse mix of great men and women now from all around the world, and Saturday once again showed the camaraderie among golfers, some who have now known each other through Jakarta golf for well over 20 years.
And just to let you know we live and play in a jungle.…
Cengkareng Cobra (photo Geoff Thwaites)
Sharing the event on the ninth hole was this cobra, no doubt from the same family as the one who decided to give Craig Edwards a love bite earlier in the year.
The offending snake that time died after some handy club work by Santi Miller, but Craig is a true Aussie battler and survived.
Fortunately Craig was not in the group on Saturday that stumbled across this beauty or he may very well have jumped onto his caddy’s back and bolted.
Next up
So a truly great day and it’s all over for another year; many thanks to all for your participation in the Championship and we hope to see you regularly throughout the 2020/21 Tee Set year, starting next week at Jagorawi when we play the New Course when the fees will be 950,000 roops including cart and with a midday tee off. Sign up here to join the fun.
