Sunday 7th July 2019 BSD

The Day

A smaller than usual turnout this week at BSD possibly influenced by summer trips, competing society events or just a quiet post 4th July week-end for our US members but the 24 Tee Setters who came were treated to a smooth and enjoyable day.

A morning competition had pushed our start time back a little but the starter arranged a 6 hole shot-gun for us meaning we were all off at the same time and enjoyed a smooth round to finish well before dusk. The weather was hazy and despite a few threatening clouds late into the round, we only experienced a few rain drops which did not detract from an otherwise dry and smooth running course.

No newcomers this week but an impressive welcome back to Peter Riddell Carre after 275 weeks which paled the more modest returns of Neil Mullins (59 weeks) and Erik Milfors (44 weeks) but who were equally feted during the presentations.

Many thanks to Beby for managing the registrations and scoring and to VP Ric Wymer for taking care of the prize-giving. Photos of the day are here.

The Play

No skirts this week but the Treasurer was pleased to note a 3-way tie for Most Strokes with our welcome backs, Peter Riddell Carre and Erik Milfors being joined by Supachai Suesomboon who however won his fine back with Low Putts. Monster Putter was Harry Lopez . Most Improved went to Samret Raungrit.

Our other welcome back, Neil Mullins, took home 1st Sandy whilst 1st Birdie went to Chuck Jeffrey for the first of his 4 birdies on the day. Low Gross went to Simon Reynolds after an excellent 77 off the stick.

On a day of good scoring, our leaders in the Low Net category were Graham Parsonage, Paul Daud and Dirk Kruip.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed scoring is here: Form_ Current Results BSD 070719

Tee Set Match Play

One match completed at BSD with Roger Finnie squeezing past 2018 Match Play Champion, Jens Roestel in a closely fought game, 3&2. Roger enters the Emas Bracket final and along with Simon Oxley in the Kunning Bracket, awaits the out-come of the other semi-final matches in their respective brackets.

Sunday 30th June 2019 Cengkareng Monthly Medal

Thank you all for those pointing out the premature posting yesterday and apologies…below is the full post duly updated.

The Day

The last Sunday of the month saw us head once more to Cengkareng for June’s monthly medal and for those interested in the Eclectic, round 3 of Cycle X. A beautiful albeit slightly hazy day greeted the 37 Tee Setters who came along this week and with many of us arriving early, there was lots of socializing being done around the clubhouse ahead of our regular noon tee time.

The course itself was in great conditions and with the bright sunshine baking the greens, they ran true and fast this week which brought its own challenge to some as can be seen in the results below. Overall it made for some good scoring and we all enjoyed a relatively quick and untroubled round.

4 newcomers with a warm Tee Set welcome being given to Wuttiworanat Meeswa, John Savage, Fred Papachristidis-Bove, and Andy Briston. Also shown in the new-comers as it was so long since his last visit was Ronan O’Neil and the rest of our welcome backs included Dave Allan (192 weeks), Supachai Pojsilpach (152 weeks) and Neil Hallet (135 weeks). An impressive set of welcome backs and we hope to see you all out again shortly.

A warm welcome back was also given to our Secretary, Brenda Mayland and many thanks to her for managing the registrations and scoring on the day. Photos are posted here as usual: https://www.flickr.com/photos/106229755@N06/albums/72157709331729602

The Play

As is often the case, our new comers tend to get in amongst the prize giving and this week was no different with Fred Papachristidas-Bove getting called up for Most Strokes and a Skirt where he was joined by Paul Daud and then Craig Edwards, Dave Allan and Franz Heuken, respectively. Fred missed out on the trifecta with Monster Putter going to Lorenzo Marengo. Most Improved went to Matt Otto who was also proudly sporting his Tee Set socks from the 2015 Championship.

Amol Singhal took First Birdie and with Roger Finnie taking Low Gross, a 3-way tie saw Richard Mau, Andy Briston and Ronan O’Neill share Low Putts. First Sandy went to Renni Puri. Our Low Net winners were Simon Oxley, Geoff Thwaites and Joe Callahan.

Our Monthly Medal skill prizes went to Hana Ariestya and Andy Briston for their Long Drives and to Samret Raungrit for NTP. James Ross and Simon Oxley were our runners-up in the Monthly Medal which was taken by Ronald Lim after his Gross 80 netted him 41 points. Unfortunately Ronald was absent at the prize giving so we will get his picture for the web-site on another week.

Congratulations to all our winners and details of the results are here: Form_ Current Results for CGK 30 Jun 19

Tee Set Match-Play

The final match in the current round was completed on the deadline with Simon Reynolds defeating Dan Javier 2&1. The next round is the bracket semi-finals and games are due to be played by 25th August 2019.

Farwell and best wishes…

Although no official confirmations we understand a number of our regular Tee Setters are departing shortly for pastures new. The rumour mill informs us that:

  • Chris Lever will depart to Egypt to take up a new post there;
  • Rudie Basson’s contract in Jakarta is complete and he will return home to South Africa;
  • Arthur Mallari is returning to the Philippines with San Miguel

We wish you all the best of luck and look forward to welcoming you back should your travels bring them back to Jakarta at some point in the future.

Next Up: BSD Sunday 7th July 2019 12.30pm

This Sunday sees us return to the popular and excellent Bumi Serpong Damai course. We have an 12.30 pm start and the price is unchanged from 2018 at Rp999k including cart.

If you wish to join us please sign up here. We will play White Tees for men as usual at BSD.

Next Up: Cengkareng Sunday 30th June Monthly Medal

This Sunday we head back to one of Jakarta’s finest courses and one of Tee Set’s most popular venues, Cengkareng, home for Tee Set’s Monthly Medal for 2019.

In addition to being the 6th Monthly Medal of 2019, this week will also be the third round of Cycle X of the Tee Set Eclectic and so a good opportunity to lay down a marker (or improve your score) in seeking to wrest the Eclectic Trophy from our current Champion, Lorenzo Marengo. We’ve not had a 2-time winner yet so will this be the cycle when someone breaks the rhythm? If you are interested to see your current score then please check out the Eclectic page.

Whilst there is a lot to attract players for this week, we also welcome those who just wish to enjoy a pleasant trip across the rolling fairways, guided round by Cengkareng’s well trained caddies and then to sit and enjoy one of its famous Margaritas to cool you down afterwards.

If you are able to join us for a very reasonable Rp850,000 walking please sign up here. Tee time is 12pm as usual.

Reminder: For those who would prefer not to walk, in addition to the hover boards to glide across the rolling fairways, Cengkareng management have purchased a limited number of golf carts. If you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengkareng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts.

Tee Set Match-Play Championship

With the final match scheduled to be played, the Quarter-final line up will be complete on Sunday night as we reach the deadline for this round. A reminder to those whose matches have just been completed that results are to be sent to James Ross by email by 30th June 2019.

Sunday 23rd June 2019 Gading Raya

The Day

A bright sunny day and relatively light traffic on the high-way greeted the 30 Tee Setters who made it to Gading Raya on Sunday. With the morning numbers being relatively low, we virtually had the club-house to ourselves with our numbers equally split between those taking the opportunity to enjoy the a quiet chat over breakfast whilst others warmed up for the game on the practice facilities beside the club-house.

We were well looked after the by the Gading Raya team both in the club-house and on the course and thank you to the starter for making sure we were off a little early once all the arriving players were accounted for. With an empty course in front of us, we had a quick round and were able to complete the prize-giving by just after 5pm whilst enjoying some post-round stories over a cool refreshment.

2 newcomers this week with a warm Tee Set welcome to Eddy Hardono and Andrew Dorbs. A warm welcome back to Gary Hing after 27 weeks and Grant Lutz & Zander Watt after 14 weeks.

Thank you to VP Ric Wymer for managing the registrations and scoring on the day and photos of the day are posted here.

The Play

Some excellent rounds both Gross and Net on the day with our Treasurer noting the moderately rare occurrence of no skirts on the day. In fact he was to miss out on all the fines with our Most Strokes and Monster Putter awardees, Indar Dhaliwal and Andrew Dorbs respectively, absent from the prize-giving.

Master of the Tee Set play this week was Chris Lever who had an excellent return of 24 putts on what were quite fast and tricky greens. First Sandy went to Matthias Coessens and Aurelie Neufkens took home Most Improved.

First Birdie went to Grant Lutz whilst our double prize winner was Gary Hing who had an eagle on his way to best gross of the day of 75. Our Low Net winners were Divya Prakash Ahuja after a best net of the day 62 where he was joined by Richie Tiblani and Franz Heuken.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results of the day are attached: Form_ Current Results Gading Raya

Tee Set Match-Play Championship

This week saw 3 of the 4 remaining match play games from the current round completed with defending champion Jens Roestel defeating Aurelie Neufkens 5&3, Divya Prakash Ahuja defeating Richie Tiblani 4&2 and Roger Finnie winning 3&1 against Wina Nugraha; all played at Gading Raya.

The Quarter-final line up will be complete by next Sunday as we reach the deadline for this round. A reminder to those whose matches have just been completed that results are to be sent to James Ross by email by 30th June 2019.

Next Up: Cengkareng Sunday 30th June 2019 – Monthly Medal and Round 3 of Eclectic X

If you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengkareng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts.

Sunday 16th June 2019 Riverside

The Day

Sunday saw us head a short way down the Jagorawi toll to visit the Greg Norman designed Riverside Golf course for our weekly event and for the 3rd Round of the Jakarta Inter-League. With many Tee Setters also playing amongst the various teams competing in the Inter-League matches, there was lots of pre-match banter and no small amount of arrangements to be managed which thankfully all came together with the assistance of the Riverside team and the various JIL Captains.

With the holiday maintenance and lighter playing rounds over the past few weeks, the course was in lush condition and with the weather remaining kind, we enjoyed a relatively quick and dry round. The ride home was a little slow with the usual returning holiday traffic and few small accidents along the highway but otherwise we all had a good day.

A warm Tee Set welcome to our new-comer this week, Chirag Patel, who is joining us for a couple of events during his current visit to Jakarta and a warm welcome back to Kelly Chaisson after 88 weeks and Emil Marcelo after 33 weeks. We look forward to seeing you all again shortly.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer for managing all the registrations and scoring on the day and theday’s photos are here. Thank you also to Rudie Basson and Jens Roestel who assisted with the morning’s administration.

The Play

Not often we have photographic evidence of the skirts but Kelly Chaisson is featured above playing his 2nd (ed: ?) shot and was duly captured for his skirt photo also. He was joined by Tom Grace and Rudie Basson as our awardees on the day. Monster Putter went to Brett Shields and the 11 players tied for 9 strokes were grateful to Lorenzo Marengo whose Most Strokes of 11 saved them all from a fine.

Lorenzo however used his Most Strokes on the front 9 to win Most Improved and recover his fine. First Birdie went to Emil Marcelo and Low Putts to Chirag Patel whilst Richard Mau won First Sandy.

Low Gross and JIL Long Drive went to Dave Prosser who had an excellent 77 on the day whilst Low Net honors were awarded to Arthur Mallari (in the absence of Paul Daud), Andrew Waite and President Roger Finnie.

Congratulations to all our winners and the detailed results can be found here: Form_ Current Results

In the JIL, Tee Set had a narrow loss to Cloggies 4-6 whilst the other matches saw more one-sided results as Tin Cups and Sentul Swingers prevailed over Pocksia and Sandbaggers, respectively.

Next Up: Gading Raya 23rd June 2019 11.30am

Green fees of Rp850,000 including a shared cart and some free range balls with a tee time of 11.30pm: please be there before 10.30am as we will have a shot-gun start so it takes a little more time to get bags/players organized and out to the respective holes

Sunday 9th June 2019 Pondok Cabe

The Day

After a few weeks taking advantage of the quiet Jagorawi Toll, we decided not to risk the returning holiday traffic on the outer roads of Jakarta by instead taking the short trip south to Pondok Cabe for our first of 2 visits this year. The course was showing the benefits of having had a few weeks of lighter traffic and the 21 Tee Setters who made it this week were treated to a day of bright sunshine and a quick round on almost empty fairways. It seems that most of the carts were still enjoying the holiday break, so most of us got the benefits of a pleasant walk across the undulating fairways whilst taking advantage when ever possible, of the available shade afforded by the many trees on the course.

With many arriving early and the starter getting us off fully 30 minutes early, a small administrative hiccup saw us ending up with one of the group sitting in the club house awaiting the later arrivals to make our final 4 ball. However, with the remaining sign-ups being no shows, Jens sped through the first couple of holes to catch up the rest of the group and was able to enjoy the rest of his round with the company of VP Ric Wymer and Michael Seabrook – apologies to Jens for that.

Our quick round and early start saw the scoring and prize giving all completed before 3.30pm so many could enjoy some extra cool refreshments in the clubhouse or head off early to enjoy the rest of the afternoon elsewhere.

2 newcomers today with Rob McAuley and Miguel Angel Veronesi both given a warm Tee Set welcome. Notable welcome backs to Rob Algie after 13 months and Norman & Lina Bunter after 26 weeks and we hope to see you all out again soon.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer for coordinating arrangements on the day and to our Secretary Beby for completing the scoring. Photos of the day are here.

The Play

Almost everyone made it to the results board this week but as usual we started with our booby prizes. A lone skirt for the day to the otherwise big hitting Simon Oxley saw him with a choice of wigs to match his T-shirt for the usual photo. Joining Tee Set for a second week and up again for Monster Putter, Pepi Kurniawan also shared Most Strokes with the returning Lina Bunter.

Also up for a second time in 2 Tee Set outings was Volker Hamann who won First Sandy whilst Most Improved went to Brett Shields and First Par for Handicaps >=30 went to Michael Seabrook.

Next Up: Riverside 16th June 2019 11.30am shot-gun

In addition to our weekly schedule, this Sunday sees the 3rd round of the 2019 Jakarta Inter-League season as Tee Set’s team looks to build on its solid start to the league. As usual, for those Tee Set players participating in JIL (whether for Tee Set or otherwise), please also sign up as normal for the weekly competition so we can capture you for both events.

To join us for the fun of one of Jakarta’s finest courses on Sunday just sign up here as usual. Green fees of Rp850,000 including a shared cart and some free range balls with a tee time of 11.30pm: please be there before 10.30am as we will have a shot-gun start so it takes a little more time to get bags/players organized and out to the respective holes

Tee Set Match-Play Championship

A reminder to everyone in the Emas bracket that none of the second knock-out round matches have been played (or at a minimum reported as played) and that these should be completed with results sent to James Ross by email by 30th June 2019; so there are just 3 weeks left. Please visit the Match Play tab on our web-site to find your opponent and make the arrangements to complete your match before the deadline.

On the other side of the draw, in a Kunning Bracket semi-final, Simon Oxley beat Santi Miller 4&3 to progress to the bracket final where he will await the winner of the Keith Gorman versus Matthew Powell match.
