Second call: Sunday 18th November 2018 Jagorawi 9.30am

Signs up are surprisingly slow and low this week and so we are posting again and hope more of you will be able to join us on Sunday. A morning round and the chance to avoid the rain, a great course and the BQQ afterwards are all great reasons to join; in addition to a chance to social with fellow Tee Setters and the golfers of other JIL teams. Please sign up as usual if you are able to rejoin

With the JIL round robin having been completed last month, Sunday marks the end of the JIL season when we hold the now traditional modified team scramble event. The round is followed by a fun BBQ and the award presentations for the good and not so good play during the JIL year.

The scramble format is teams of 4, everyone drives from the tee and from the location of the selected drive, each player plays her/his own ball into the hole for an individual score. On each hole, the best 2 (par 4’s and 5’s) or all 4 (Par 3’s) of the individual stableford scores count for the team score. For those wishing to study the scoring beforehand please see the attached score card for the details.

Sunday’s event is open to all Tee Set players and we will make up scramble teams on the day unless you indicate a preference for certain playing partners beforehand when signing up. Please everyone bring along their green shirts if you can.

Start time is 9.30am as usual for the Interleague week-end and we will have a shot-gun start so please be at the course and registered for around 8.30am so we can form groups and allocate holes in time to get out at 9.15am for the start.

Sunday 11th November 2018 Matoa Nasional

The Rain and rain and rain and…

With Sunday also marking the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice ending WWI and Remembrance Sunday, Tee Set was supporting 2 events on the day which collectively attracted 90 golfers.

At Rainbow Hills there was the now annual gathering led by former President Geoff Thwaites with a remembrance service followed by lunch and a round of golf whilst at Matoa we were holding our regular weekly event as a practice round ahead of the Championships. Both games were unfortunately, drastically effected by the weather as is always the risk at this time of year.

Rainbow Hills was a wash out after just 1 hole so everyone retired to the event area where a few refreshments were enjoyed and a charity raffle held to raise money for the Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami relief efforts. With 60 players there, it was a boisterous afternoon.

At Matoa, 30 players signed up for the practice round and whilst we got off in good time, the round was to be affected by the weather mid-way through with the siren halting play for around 45 minutes. Some hardy souls decided to tough it out despite the continuing rain and enjoyed their last few holes in the relative dry after the rain stopped. However, most players recognized that discretion was the better part of valour and took an early shower.

With only 10 cards submitted, the President decided anyone who finished was a winner and used the prize money to fund some refreshments for those remaining at the end. All submitted cards will be recorded for the day as will the attendance of those who started but could not finish…

No photos on the day but a warm Tee Set welcome to 2 newcomers in the morning as Leon Bivolaru and Bonardo Sinaga joined us for the first time. We hope to see you both out again soon.

Sunday 4th November 2018 Imperial Golf Klub

The Day

With the ever popular and well oiled Star Deli tournament taking place the day before, it was a pleasure to see a healthy turnout of 38 Tee Setters as we made our last visit of the year to Imperial. The opportunity to welcome back old friends, the match-play final and just enjoying the good food and service in the clubhouse provided plenty of reasons for us all to have a good day.

Although we have entered the rainy season and some recent games have been affected by heavy showers, we were to enjoy a relatively dry round with just the threat of a serious storm passing over us and a sprinkling of rain falling to keep us refreshed and cool as we went round. As such we were finished in good time to enjoy our post round camaraderie and make our presentations as the evening sky was being lit up by the lightning storm in the background.

Plenty of welcome backs this week with Mike Taylor (205 weeks) and Harry Hill (186 weeks) definitely the pick of the bunch. However we also gave a warm welcome back to Hal Loevy, Aljosja Van Dorssen, Chuck Jeffrey and Ronald Hioka.

Many thanks to our Secretary Beby for coming out to help with registrations and scoring and to VP Ric Wymer for making sure everything ran smoothly as usual.

The Play

Not the same great harvest of skirts as last week but we none the less welcomed up a few regulars for the picture with Pascal Bekaert, King Tirto and John Suermondt being joined by match play finalist Jens Roestel. John stayed up for Most Strokes which was also a 4-way affair, this time joined by Hakim Moui, Matthew Powell and Mike Taylor. Despite the slightly tricky greens, there was no Monster Putter this week.

King was however able to recover his fine with First Par for Handicaps =>30 whilst Andy Vincent was Most Improved with 9. First Sandy went to Ronald Hioka (hole 1) whilst First Birdie went to playing partner Richard Mau (hole 2).

Master of the greens this week was Mark Fiorello after his 28 putts whilst for a second time this year, Matthew Powell secured an eagle and recovered his fine with First Eagle (11). Round of the day went to Ken Runyon for a great 76 gross.

Our Low Net winners were Ronald Lim in A Grade (67), Aljosja Van Dorssen in B Grade (72) and Mike Taylor in C Grade (75). Thanks also to Mike for his donation to the Championship spirits stocks and congratulations to all our winners.

Detailed results are here.

Tee Set Match-Play Final

Congratulations to Jens Roestel who won the Ric Wymer Tee Set Match-Play trophy after persevering in a close and evenly matched final against Tee Set’s reigning champion, Santi Miller, at Imperial.

There have been some close matches this year and the final was no different. Santi and Jens could not be separated after 18 holes and down the last they went again with Jens securing the 19th hole to win 1 up.

Jens was presented with the trophy by its namesake, VP Ric Wymer, but held it only briefly as it was taken away for engraving ahead of its formal presentation in the Championships.

Sunday 28th October 2018 Cengkareng

The Day

Despite the rainy season having arrived over the past week or so, we were not to be troubled by any rain this Sunday as we enjoyed another excellent visit to Cengkareng for our October monthly medal.

This week saw another bumper turnout of 50 players, in no small part thanks to the efforts of many Tee Setters to bring along friends and colleagues to join the Group.

It was a pleasure to welcome 9 newcomers in Siong Wong, Rendra Lembong, Paul McPhillimy, Nazlee Rosul, Hafiz Ibrahim, Jim Jesse, Brendon Skinner, Barry Widjaja and Amar Patel. A warm welcome to Tee Set and a warm welcome back to Emil Marcelo after 122 weeks and Nick Thomas, on a flying visit, after 47 weeks.

A thank you to everyone for turning up a in good time and heeding the call to be on the tee boxes early so that we could respect the support given to Tee Set by Cengkareng’s management; this visit went off much more smoothly and was appreciated by the starter. With such a great turnout, our Secretary Beby and VP Ric Wymer were kept busy with the scoring so a big thank you to them and to Craig Edwards who assisted the President beforehand in managing the registrations and pairings on the day. Photos of the day are here.

The Play

This week saw no less than 16 players record scores at or below their handicaps and some very good gross scores were also returned on the day. However, the bite in tail off the Blue tees was also able to catch-out a couple of our winners who were amongst the healthy return of 9 skirts. Featured with the skirt were James Ross, Jim Jesse, Laurie O’Connor, Matthew Powell, Panchaud Francois, Simon Oxley, Siong Wong and Tony Franco.

Monster Putter on the day was Eric Mary with 42 and Most Strokes, newcomer Jim Jessie with 11 on a hole. On the plus side, Pascal was able to recover his fine as he recorded First Par for Handicaps >=30 on his hole 3 whilst Ian Butcher put a slow start behind him to record Most Improved with 11.

Jon Pipe won First Birdie for his effort on hole 5 whilst 1st Sandy Par went to Craig Ewers and Santi Miller for their joint efforts on hole 4. Marcelo was to be recognized afterwards when he realized he had reported his second hole sandy par incorrectly… A 4 way tie for Low Putts was resolved by absent winners leaving VP Ric Wymer to collect the proceeds of his excellent 28 strokes on the greens.

A 3 way tie on 77 strokes for Low Gross was split by a Committee adjudication which saw President Roger Finnie take home Low Gross whilst playing partner, Simon Oxley took home Low Net A. Net 67’s were also recorded by Audie Kaunang and Lis Wymer as they took home the low net honours in B and C grades, respectively.

On the monthly skill prizes, newcomer Barry Widjaja took home Long Drive Men’s and Wina Nugraha Long Drive Women’s whilst Laurie O’Connor also won back his money for his Nearest the Pin effort of 190cm.

A superb round and best of the day Gross 73 saw Joshua Alexander record 44 points to take home of October Monthly Medal. Congratulations to Joshua and to all the winners and detailed results of the day can be found here.

Sunday sees us return to our local “K”  klub, Imperial, for our 5th  and final visit of the year.

Sunday 21st October 2018 Gading Raya

The Day

Sunday saw us make a welcome return visit to Gading Raya after 75 weeks and the high turnout of 50 Tee Setters showed it was a popular arrangement. Whilst the greens were showing the effects of being recently cored, the rest of the day ran relatively smoothly and we all enjoyed what is a well laid out course and the hospitality of a Gading Raya team keen to ensure we enjoyed our day. Our only real hiccup was the lead groups being a little quick on the front 9 and arriving at hole 10 before the last of the afternoon groups had teed off.

The day also saw us welcome back 3 Tee Setters who have not played since prior to the database being started as well as welcome 4 newcomers to the Group. A warm Tee Set welcome was given to Shep Owen, Michael Mueller, James Stuart and James Taylor. We also had the pleasure to welcome back Ken Ridle after about 20 years and Jean & Martin Zachery after about 7 years; also welcomed back were Tony Blackburn and Vanco Pop-Petrovski and 43 and 42 weeks. We look forward to seeing you all back soon.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer and Secretary Beby for handling the registrations and scoring on the day. Photos of the day are here

The Play

With the red tee carries not being far we had only 1 skirt on the day by Shep Owen. With Shep having already departed, we called up Jean Zachery to model the skirt that she had made for Tee Set many years previously. Brandon Curson was both our Monster Putter after 43 putts and Most Strokes winner, the latter shared with Vanco-Pop Petrovski on 10 strokes. With neither being present, VP Bill Lloyd stepped up to ensure the monkey was modeled for our records on the day. Brandon also got his money back for First Par >=30 on hole 7.

Most Improved with 12 was Stefan Thiele who staged a good recovery after a tough from nine. Low Putts was won by Simon Oxley after mastering the greens with 27 putts whilst First Sandy was a 3 way tie between Al Livingston, Craig Binks and David Baglivo after they all secure a par on their first hole from the bunker.

Low Gross with 78 was won by Jeff Landau whilst we had a trio of great net scores for our Low Net winners by Richard Mau (A grade 67), Dan Javier on a count back from Mike Webb (B Grade 66) and John Suermondt with our best net on the day (C Grade, 64).

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here.
