The Day
What looked like a rather quiet day for a Monthly Medal turned out to be quite busy with 50 players thanks to late and very late registrations more than offsetting a few cancellations, which along with the discovery of the fact the hole indexes were not properly factored on our scorecards caused a bit of headaches for the committee, but didn’t stop us from having a great day where everybody finished before sundown and with a minimum amount of rain for this time of the year.
We welcomed 4 new Tee Setters: Jonathan Quek, Pak Sugeng Susilo (father of Dian Novita who joined Tee Set last week), Simo Vaananen who joined our increasing Finn contingent, and William Wong to whom we wish a warm welcome to Tee Set.
We welcomed back Jeff Durham after 18 weeks and the Thai quatuor of Chakkapong Yingwattanat, Jirathpol Sunsap, Kasana Kaewwijit and Piboon Sirinantanakol whose 16 weeks absence probably explained why they forgot to register and turn in their cards after their round.
Note that as Modern will be our new Monthly Medal home in 2017, the first round of Eclectic Cycle 5 will be when we play there in January, so today didn’t count for the Eclectic.
Some Tee Setters (pictured here) were later spotted winding down at Star Deli and some others (not pictured) a bit more up north.
The Play
After a few last minute revisions not reflected above, the prizes were awarded as follows.
Low Gross went to Richard Mau for his 86 even though Andrew Waite had an 85 and Roger Finnie 86 but were awarded other prizes below.
Low Net A Grade was awarded to Roger Finnie for his net 74, Low Net B Grade to Andrew Waite for his net 67 and Low Net C Grade to Paisan Thanasitsom for his net 68.
James Ross won Low Putts for his 29.
First Birdie went to Don Duttlinger for his effort on his first hole.
One of our oldest member, Lina Bunter won First Par over 30 on her 7th hole.
First Sandy Par would have gone to Mark Johnson who was OB.
Most Improved was awarded to Jari Rahtu for his 9 shots improvement, as Rob Davies who improved by 10 was OB, which on the other end saved him from getting Most Strokes for his 14 on a hole.
Closest to the PIN went to Mick Dodsworth on hole #5 for his brilliant shot that almost went in and would have made his investment in the hole in one a lucrative one, but ended up 2’6” from the hole.
Longest Drive Men was awarded to Simo Vaananen for his 238 yards effort.
While Lis Wymer won Longest Drive Ladies for her 242 yards tee shot, we suspect might have been measured from the blue tees.
And the biggest prize of them all, the Monthly Medal, was won by Efsi Hayati with 42 stableford points after adjusting her scorecard with the proper hole indexes, leaving Andrew Waite and Paisan Thanasitsomboon as runners-up with their 40 points. For her brilliant performance Efsi not only earned a medal and her nameplate on the Monthly Medal Shield but also received 2 Cengkareng free weekend round certificates.
And in the less glamorous prizes section, Dian Novita, maybe helped by the added pressure of playing with her father, earned the Monster Putter for her 43 shots with the flat stick, but kept her smile.
And finally we had a harvest of 7 Skirts representing the multi-nationalities of Tee Set with: Andrew Marron, Bill Lloyd, Chris Smith, Karel Horak, Manfred Borer, Pekka Kivioja and once more yours truly for my poor effort on a par 3.

Next Up
A special Christmas event where you are encouraged to dress up for it, and we might even provide the hats if they can be found, at Pangkalan Jati for a mere 495,000 Rp without cart, even though some are available, with a tee off time of 12:00, so please register here.

A quick note to wish the incoming President Pascal and Vice Presidents Roger and Ric all the best for the 2017 year. I think my title is now the Singing Ex-Prez. I enjoyed what we all achieved together in Tee Set over the last two years and am now looking forward to enjoying the benefits as a player.
The great day is nearly upon us and, despite the absence in Singapore of Tournament Director Ric Wymer, all is fully-under-control-chaos with his Whatsapp red-hot working overtime in whipping the dilatory into shape from afar.
