The Day
What a delight to drive for less than one hour in light traffic and have so much extra time to enjoy refreshments and lunch before hitting the course. And, to top it off, the drive back home was even quicker, although there was little to be in a hurry for with Star Deli closed for the start of Ramadan. Selamat Berpuasa to all our Muslim friends.
Committee members were a bit thin on the ground Sunday despite it being perhaps the most popular course on our schedule with just the Vice President of Exotic Drinks and the Assistant Vice President of Most Things being in attendance to run the show.
Great to see so many Newcomers to Tee Set this week, attracted no doubt by the excellent course – Welcome and hope you will enjoy your golf with Tee Set Sakun, Raia, the 2 Michaels, Kitty and Eric!!
In light of the popularity of the Cengkareng course, 59 Tee Setters today entirely typical, we are discussing with the club’s management adding a couple more events there to the 2016 calendar. Watch this space.
Brenda did an outstanding job keeping track of the finances and taming the rabble of noisy golfers hovering around her table asking what tee box they were on the moment they arrived 😦
It was a considerable pleasure to witness the running of a well-managed golf course today, not least compared to the grief we experienced the previous week at Imperial. Our 12PM tee time was honoured and we were given two tee boxes to start from with a precise 8 minutes between each group teeing off. Even with 59 players, all managed to finish in a timely manner and be back in the clubhouse before the sun had fully set ready to taste those delectable Margaritas after they had been passed (sic) by Tee Set’s VP of Exotic Drinks.
Even Simon Reynolds couldn’t resist the pull of Cengkareng with its walking layout and fast true greens. However, we believe Simon had a hidden agenda since the following day was his birthday and he didn’t have enough female company booked for his private “party”. Many a pretty caddy was to be seen receiving an invitation card during the round.
More photos of a great day out on the Tee Set Gallery.
The Play

The distance from blue tee boxes to the reds was rather challenging as always and a very reasonable crop of 12 Tee Setters golfers succumbed to a “tee box too far” and with the treasurer not unhappy with the result.
Lis Wymer taking advantage of some short holes found herself just one over par after three holes; not bad for a 37 handicapper. Her first ever birdie on number 3 was not early enough for the first birdie prize, however the par on number 2 was certainly good enough for “first par over 30”.

Newcomer Rocky lost his Monkey virginity – best to get that out of the way ASAP, Rocky!
Some steady putting saw John Stewart take the money from 4 others also locked on 29. Rocky Terita was a bit unlucky to get monster putter with just 41. Considering the number of players on the day a much higher tally could reasonably been expected. Bad luck Rocky.
Mike Harling enjoyed the day despite getting most strokes with 12. Five in a bunker and then thinning it out into OB didn’t help his round but getting his credit card back after losing it momentarily in the restaurant brought the smile back.
Pieter (don’t call me Pete) Groen sheepishly took prize money and you will understand why when you see his improvement on the back nine – a mammoth 16 strokes.
All three grade winners were to shoot under par, well done to them all, especially Moragot Krutaroj for his net 66 – expect the swift attention of the Handicap Committee, Moragot!
Next Up
Always a rather a special occasion when we visit what many consider the finest course in the Jakarta area, the quite delicious Rancamaya course, and we are once again making a weekend of it with a relaxed social round on the Saturday afternoon followed by an even more relaxed dinner in the evening.
Joining us for dinner on the Saturday evening will be some of the Jakarta D.O.G.S who we meet on the Sunday morning in the second of our bi-annual Challenge matches.
The inaugural event was a tie so we are hoping to go one better this time.
Response to the weekend has been great with 26 rooms booked at the R-Hotel, just a gently hit 64 degree lob-wedge away from the Rancamaya clubhouse.
Green fees are a remarkable 630,000 while tee-offs will start from 1 & 10 at 11:30 and, if you are not joining for the weekend but just for the Sunday, then register here for what should be a quite outstanding day. If you have booked for the weekend then there is no need to register again; so please DON’T!
Thanks and respect once again to Juergen Degert for all that he has done, yet again, to get us access to the course and hotel and generally facilitate the event.
WOULD EVERYBODY PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE CLUBHOUSE NO LATER THAN 11.00AM to give us time to get the groups together.
If you have booked for the weekend then you will be receiving an e-mail later in the week from Event Supremo, Jan Janda, filling you in on all those pesky but useful details.
See yah at Rancamaya!! … Tee Set
PS and it’s goof night from the tree too ….

All, really good response and take up already for the Rancamaya weekend on the 11/12th June, so it is set up to be a lot of fun and competition!

Numbers can be deceiving and while only 27 Tee Setters formally registered, about 20 more more were hidden among the competing Interleague teams, making it a solid turnout. It was a good way to support Interleague but not sure we will be rushing back too quickly, given the other courses available, the less than helpful male caddies and the return trip on the toll road.

Sad to lose another two regulars with Leona Jelinkova and Jan Jelinek (“The Jellys”) heading back to new postings in the Czech Republic.
Stinking hot day with no wind and the Poms were falling like flies. The second nine cooled off considerably with a bit of wind and some cloud cover.

After
The Day
Welcome Backs were led by that previous regular, Evaldo Roos, back after a 40 weeks absence, closely followed by Geoff Thompson who has been a Tee Setter since 1987 who was to be longest-serving member on the day, and one who always makes the effort to turn out when we are at Matoa.
