Update Tee Set Match Play Competition

puttThe Tee Set Match Play Competition is reaching its final rounds.  Thanks again to El Guapo, Fernando, for leading this part of the Tee Set playing program.

There have been a few challenges in scheduling matches but overall it has been an excellent competition and Tee Setters have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know each other better through what is arguably the purest form of the game.

Overall results are provided below – the Emas bracket has now reached the final – James is ready to face off with the Singing President again, this time at Gading Raya when Tee Set plays there in a few weeks time.  In the Kuningan bracket Wina has made it through to the final against the winner of Anthony and Jan Janda.

The winners of both brackets will then play off for the final.

Riverside, 4th October 2015

The Day

2010-10-04 Riverside (12)

38 Tee Setters enjoyed a fantastic day of golf on what has become one of our favourite courses, with friendly staff and excellent facilities.  Quite a few newcomers – not quite as many as listed here – but welcome guys.  Our growing Thai contingent again featured in the prizes…and skirts.

2010-10-04 Riverside (38)

Welcome back to Richard after 8 weeks and a range of others after 6 weeks away.

The Play

Riverside

Straight to the skirts…..8 tee setters failed to make it past the Ladies Tee….and Cucu was not far off either (caught on camera here).  A quick check with the Web Guy confirmed this is probably our youngest group of cross dressers we have had:

2010-10-04 Riverside (20)

Jan and Chaovalit shared Most Strokes with 12 strokes – don’t look so sad guys, this is no disgrace on Riverside, which probably accounts for more lost balls than every other course except Jagorawi’s Z Course – right Bushy?

2010-10-04 Riverside (21)

For the second time this year, Bags took out the Monster Putter – this time he could not claim it was because he hit so many greens in regulation – he just played crap. Next week no doubt he will join the winners’ circle again.

2010-10-04 Riverside (22)

Paisan was Most Improved – now becoming known as worst front nine performance – with a massive 16 shots difference.  Chris Lever thought he was a definite but even some creative accounting couldn’t get him over the line. For future reference, Most Improved is not calculated on holes as played on a semi-shotgun start – too complicated for us – it is calculated on the difference between first nine (as played) and second nine….so are we clear on that (?)

2010-10-04 Riverside (24)

Skills prizes were taken out by John (first par over 30), Sapakhoon (first birdie – great effort for an over 30 handicapper) and Richard was all smiles after winning Low Putts, winning on a countback from Rasmus and Saphakhoon, all with 30 putts, a great effort on the challenging Riverside greens.  Photos here…apologies for not posting all here – your scribe is running out of time.

And now for the winners.  As expected on a tough course with the last holes rushed through in fading light, there were no blistering rounds but Leona was back in the prizes with Low Net C grade and Ric returned to form with the net round of the day with 70 – Photos here. Ric no doubt now qualifies on form for selection (by himself) in the Tee Set Interleague team for the last round later this month.

Santi for the second week in a row led the A graders on net score with a net 72, with new hair style.

2010-10-04 Riverside (3)

Last and not least, the story of the day, is the return to form of Neil Mullins.  After his rousing performance of Islands in the Stream – or was that Wedges in the Trees – at Geoff’s birthday bash at Jagorawi, Neil was back, courtesy of sponsor San Miguel Light, to win Low Gross with 85.

It will be the last we see of Neil for a little while as he heads of to Nepal to trek up Everest.  The main challenge will be finding porters strong enough to carry his cool box.  Have a great trip mate!

Tee Set Matchplay Results

James gradually wore down Jan, despite distractions thrown from behind by the Singing President, with a solid 2 and 1 victory.  James now advances to the semi-finals of the Emas division.  An update on the match play competition will be published through the week.

Next Up

Next up will be the Peter Thompson designed Padang Modern, starting at 12.16pm, green fees 730k including cart.

Monthly Medal Imperial Golf Klub, Sunday 27th September 2015

The Day

Image result for imperial golf klub jakartaAgain the early birds were out for breakfast and a few warm up balls before tee off.  With numbers down from normal due to the Star Deli tournament, 33 tee setters arrived and the Imperial team looked after us all extremely well, even getting us off on time.  Ignore the table below, we have seen Pridsada before, but we welcomed Sarawut for the first time and, as you can see in prizes below, he made a grand entrance to Tee Set.  Welcome back to Tim Frear after 13 weeks and Joe after 8 weeks gallivanting around the US.

The Play

Imperial

The Monthly Medal and second round of the second Tee Set Eclectic produced some outstanding golf.  Santi Miller had 4 birdies on her way to a 81 (net 67) and 42 stableford points to earn the Monthly Medal for September and a place on the shield.  Her round could have been better had it not been for 2 doubles and a double par 8.

2015-09-27 Imperial (3)

With regular winner Simon away, Barbora rose to the challenge of shooting under 80, with a 78 (net 69) to take Low Gross and Fernando El Guapo El Supremo also brought his A game also with a net 69 to take out Low Net A grade.

2015-09-27 Imperial (25)

2015-09-27 Imperial (33)

Pieter and Chris shared the Low Net B Grade – smiling here as you would after a pair of 69s.

2015-09-27 Imperial (24)

Celebrating his birthday week (!), Pastis Pascal played out of his proverbial to win Low Net C Grade with a 68, have the first par over 30 (alas only one prize allowed unless long drive or NTP).  With a number of pars which became net eagles, Pascal was heard to say that he was eclectically kicking ass today.

2015-09-27 Imperial (23)

Most Improved was shared by Mel and Sarawut – the 100k allowed them to fund their fines.  Again Mark showed us how with the flat stick, mastering the fast but true Imperial greens with 25 putts, with only 11 on one nine – who could blame Brenda for lining up for this shot.

2015-09-27 Imperial (20)

2015-09-27 Imperial (32)

Murcho found a new use for a 100k note with first birdie on the 3rd and Jaroslav joined the Singing President to take the money for First Sandy Par on the 1st hole as played.

2015-09-27 Imperial (21)

2015-09-27 Imperial (22)

As usual on a monthly medal round, we had prizes for longest drive – won by James Ross with a 272 yard drive right down the middle – yes multiple witnesses!  Chris Smith managed to sneak inside others with Nearest to the Pin 4 feet 3 inches…as usual very happy about his win.

2015-09-27 Imperial (19)

2015-09-27 Imperial (18)

Now for the booby prizes, featuring newcomer and extremely good sport Sarawut, as well as traditional cross dresser Mel, joined today by Rod for the skirt photo.  Sarawut’s 54 putts to win Monster Putter must be close to a record and had him running for a disguise.  With the Treasurer away, and not wanting to punish anyone further, we decided not to “award” Most Strokes today, so that John, Pascal, Rod and Sarawut could enjoy an extra beer or frozen margarita and watch the sun set over the 18th hole.

The Day

Some days are about the course, but this week was all about the people.  A great day of fellowship with golfers from other societies participating in the Interleague and celebrating the birthday of our mate and former President Geoff.21582568282_908f72371d_m

An earlier than usual start as many Tee Setters joined the Interleague competition, eight with Tee Set’s team who were looking to wrap up the season victory, and another 10 or so with other teams either as regulars or last minute ring-ins to make up numbers.

Special mention has to go to Jaco for filling in at last minute for Loose Impediments, not able to wear their standard apricot uniform modelled by Tom here.  Also to Bill playing against Jaco and his team mate – despite trying to recruit Brenda to be his playing partner.

21406751369_1dff8fa9a1_m 21405858138_9659d5b2e9_m

21582458122_ce36460ce6_mCaptain and Immediate Past President of Almost Everything Ric was roaming the course keeping his eye on the troops, accompanied here by Interleague El Supremo.

Tee Set went down 6 points to 4 to our friends Mad Dogs, thanks in part to some brilliant chipping in off the green from fellow Tee Setter Norman and quality play from other team mates.  All will be decided in the last round next month.

Welcome to newcomers Tracey and Mike and to those coming back, most notably Jeff Durham after 44 weeks away.

Geoff’s party started early as he teamed up with Mike and kicked on long after the camera was put away….a great day and a taster for the Club Championships in November.

21582565342_4ac7a1e52a_m 21405775048_8ce9d50bb7_m

Lots of great photos of the day here.

The Play

Jags resultsWith funds going to other causes and not wanting to disrupt the party, prizes this week took the form of recognition only…so here is lots of recognition.   The free beer, rum, food and music to celebrate Geoff’s birthday was appreciated (thanks again to Geoff who was in fine form as usual!) and the Club Championships, a bonanza of prizes and giveaways, is just around the corner.

Lina, this week’s C Grade net winner, and Renny not far behind continued their fine form this year with outstanding rounds of 66 and 68 nett on a tough course.

B graders struggled with Daniel topping the table with a comparatively high net 80.  Murcho, notched up another interleague win partnering Daniel (below) to remain undefeated, scoring a 76 net and taking out A grade net.

20972791443_760457413e_z

Vice President Simon again won low gross on his way to another win in his interleague singles to retain his unbeaten record this year.

In other prizes, a rare eagle for Anlo on the 1st, followed by a sandy par on the second, but that honour reverts to Cucu for her effort on the 5th.  Murcho’s birdie on the 7th was the first but he won Low net so Rasmus is next in line for his birdie on the 11th.  Jaco managed to help out Loose Impediments, made up mostly of Tee Setters anyway, and had both Low Putts with 28 and Most Improved with a massive 20 shots – a tale of two halves – 65 and 45…on the one prize rule, he cant win both, but Rasmus had also won, leaving Leona and Mike’s 3 shot improvements under the threshold…try and work all that out!

Surprisingly on this course, there was only one skirt, obviously Jan trying to keep up with matchplay opponent Cucu.  Despite hitting his second before Cucu teed off on that hole, he managed to win their match and picking up a birdie on the 15th. Pieter, playing in his interleague debut with Tee Set after a string of good performances, and Tom shared most strokes with 11 and Jaturaporn featured again in dispatches with Monster Putter after 43 putts.

A couple of corrections in prizes from last week too – we will sort you out when we have cash next  time we see you – Alistair was Low Net A grade – but is square because he won Low Putts – but Anna and Geoff we owe you a prize for sharing Low Putts – problems with grades are now fixed…for now!

Tee Set Matchplay

Jan and Cucu finally faced off in their matchplay quarter final, with Jan taking the honours 4 and 3.  Despite the fierce battle, good to see they were still friends after.

Matoa Nasional 13th September 2015

The Day

21216945359_afab336439_z21377547656_653b086744_z

It’s always good to see Tee Setters making the photo talent for a change.  42 took to the course for what has unfortunately become a habitual slow start, with 5 other flights being loaded onto the 10th at our allotted starting time.  This led to all sorts of adjustments and frustrations, and a slow first nine, during which we did lose a couple.

Welcome to Arthur for the first time and welcome back to Brian, Anna and Frank and Geoff after long absences from Tee Set.

The Play

Matoa results

Some very good rounds today highlighted by B graders Pieter and Daniel sharing the Net B Grade with nett 68s – and possibly the record for the biggest age gap between joint winners – if only we kept such records.

20782717363_14eefcf72e_mBoth were more than eager to talk about their rounds.  Pieter shed all attempts to be grumpy – thanks too for your help in registration, Pieter – good karma for your golf performance.  Daniel, separated deliberately from his parents for the sake of his golf, proved us all right and made sure we didn’t miss one shot by recounting each hole in the clubhouse after – man, they learn quick!

Andre won the money for low nett A grade with a 69, even though his new handicap put him in the B grade – anyway…great round Andre – you are an A grade fella.  C grade was also mass confusion, but after awarding it to Malty, we could hardly deprive him when we discovered Tom had shot 2 strokes less, and the chance to photograph these two together was priceless….what was I saying about talent!

21412175311_e1daf087ed_m20782710443_cbc701b87f_m21215943808_cd4d43db0e_m

Barbora rose to the challenge in last week’s post and equalled Simon’s effort of 83 for Low Gross.  In other prizes Tom Grace sprung up again for a shared prize with Jari for first birdie on the third, Mick won his skirt money back with first sandy, Al again was supreme with the flat stick with 28, winning on a countback from Geoff and Anna who also had 28, and Renny kept her grip on the First Par over 30 prize for the second week running.  Lis, in her second game with Tee Set improved 13 strokes to win most improved…well done Lis (pictured here – right – looking the part on the course).

21403830505_60140b94e6_m21403823225_d67d8a1dc3_m20781100134_bfe1278835_m

21215989758_b0d6fe16d8_m21377623116_52dc02defd_m

Lis was to also claim the Monster Putter but gallant husband Ric, the immediate Past President for Almost Everything, stepped in to grapple with the monkey. Mick and Mike made a fine pair, the only two that earned a skirt.  We didn’t manage to catch Olivier on film for Most Strokes but he was honest enough to admit the 12 he took and pay the fine.

21215744480_1f7c10ac99_m21377613046_7c2f703f69_m

In news of the day, Mike Webb thought he was Mark Webber, overestimating his ability to take the corners and ending up beached with one wheel spinning in the air.  Fortunately his playing partners and caddies were able to lift the car to safety.  Quizzed about the incident later, Mike blamed his i-caddie, which he accidentally switched into dirty talk mode just at the wrong time.  Chris who was sharing the cart at the time added a new expletive to his already impressive vocabulary.

Neil and Graham were seen to sneak off the course mid-round, not together, but clearly suffering.  Hope you are feeling better guys.  To make up for the slow start, Matoa put on some free jugs and the majority kicked on.

20781136324_859d6bbaa2_z

Matchplay

In a return bout of last year’s bitter Trans Tasman Slugfest at Senayan, Murcho and the Singing President lined up on the first to battle out their semi-final, after Murcho disposed of Vice President Simon the week before.  With all forms of trash talk and mind games, the match went stroke for stroke until handicap difference and enough luck at the right time gave the Singing President a 3 and 2 win.

On the other side of the draw, things were a bit more confused as Mark J called in with the flu to postpone his match with Anthony and the two Jans stood up Cucu and Chris Lever.  Chris and Anthony decided to battle anyway and Chris took the honors, but Supreme Commander El Guapo will now have to decide what’s going on in that half of the draw.

Next Up

20781065814_60594cb057_mYep, its that time of year again.  Former President and all round legend Geoff is holding his birthday bash – complete with our good friends the Band from Bandung – after the round at Jagorawi on Sunday 20th.

Interleague will start at 9.30am – with Tee Set looking to close out the championship against Mad Dogs.  Tee Set will start around 10.30am.  Apart from the entertainment there will be plenty of free beer and lots of fun.  We are in the process of working out a reasonable rate.  Register here as usual.
