Tee Set’s got Talent!

The Day

Sam and NickyThe Indonesian finals of  the “ASEAN’s got Talent” competition concluded last evening at the Jagorawi Golf and County Club at Karanggan – and with Tee Set providing 13 of the 16 singers and entertainers taking part, with the top 3 progressing to the regional finals in Kuala Lumpur on 13th October.

The Birthday boyYes, it was Geoff Thwaites 70th birthday celebration and Geoff put on drinks, hot dogs and a live band to entertain the many  choosing to stay after the round.

The band from the Bandung Bash spun their magic over the audience and it wasn’t long before a wide array of hidden talents bubbled to the surface, not least those of many Tee Setters.

It really was all great entertainment and top marks to those Tee Setters, and others, who got up on the stage and gave it a go; Interleague popularity would go through the roof if it were followed by this level of fun after every competition round!!Louis Armstrong II

We suspect that our new secretary, Brenda, who was along for intensive training, may well believe every week will be like this. We wish.

Many thanks to Geoff for his generosity, may you have many more birthday parties, Geoff!

The Play

By amazing coincidence, today also saw Tee Set return to take on the Jagorawi New course and a tenacious Sentul Swingers in Round 6 of the Interleague competition. On the back of the Interleague team resurgence this year, the regular Tee Set group also showed support so that, all in all, there were 21 Tee Setters present – not a bad turn out for a difficult course not to everyone’s taste.

Happily, the Interleague match went in our favor with a 6 and 4 win taking us up to a comfortable mid-table position. Sombrero Sam continued his great match play form by winning 5 – 4 in the singles, while Mike Garwood appeared more intent on benefiting the local economy by spraying plenty out of bounds in losing his match by 5 and 4.

The evergreen combination of Peter Reichlmeier and birthday “boy” Geoff Thwaites won their match in a hard fought 2 and 1 while Chris Murchison and Nicky Moir combined well to win 3 and 1. Neil Mullins and Tim Davies fought hard all day and took the game to the 18th only to go 1 down.

All of this puts the team into 4th place on the Interleague ladder – and with still a chance to overtake Tin Cups in the final round. Well done. team.

Bill and Shane celebrate a shared Most StrokesChris Murchison had a moan about paying the Rp100K match fee but got it back anyway with his low gross 87. The other star of the day was Shane Rowles who has somehow reinvented his game – and his current handicap will shortly be in free-fall after taking low net for the second time in three weeks with a solid 70 – and this despite a few hiccups along the way, including a skirt and most strokes on a hole.

Paul Lowndes suffered similarly, also picking up a skirt and most strokes on a hole – but without the consolation of a prize in his case.

Ric Nicky Brenda

Nicky Moir got his money back with a birdie on # 2, Robert Humberson his with a sandy par on #4 and Mike Garwood somewhat redeemed himself with a 7 shot improvement after something of a debacle in his front nine.

Fuller, player by player details can be found here.

Next Sunday

Next Sunday is of course the last of the month so we are back to Matoa once again for the monthly medal – and the chance for glory, bragging rights, Slaney’s finest meat and, if the President of Everything remembers to bring it, the September Monthly Medal itself.

Tee off is at 11AM from two tee  boxes and there is a choice of riding a cart at Rp650,000 or walking at Rp550,000.

As ever, please register at “Yes, I’m playing!!” if you haven’t already.

See yah, Sunday! …. Tee Set
