Next Up: Senayan National, Sunday 12th February

SenayanThe rather grandly named Senayan National GC, known rather more humbly as Kebayoran until  a year or three ago, has long been an expat favourite, its unparalleled central location providing the chance to get 9 holes in and still be into the office more or less on time. And only a little late if going for the full Monty 🙂

In 2011/12 at Senayan, what had become a rather shabby, down at heel facility since being opened in the 1960s in a burst of sports mania by then President Sukarno, was transformed with a complete course re-modelling, use of the very finest turf and the construction of perhaps the most luxurious and well equipped clubhouse in Indonesia.

Given the millions of dollars involved in the work, the steep rise in the price of a round of golf at Senayan was perhaps inevitable but was to put the course well beyond the range that your committee considers what is acceptable to the membership as a body.

Times have moved on, however,  and prices at the course have come down from the stratosphere right across the range and 600,000 walking for an 11:00 start is pretty reasonable for this sort of quality. Clearly Tee Setters agree with this and all 32 of the places we had on offer on Monday were gone within hours. The carts at 500,00 (250,000/pax shared) we will leave to your own personal cost/benefit analysis.

Wina has now secured an extra 2 flights giving us room for another 8 players – and 5 of these are still there for the taking by registering here on a strictly first come first served basis. We may even be able to smuggle in a few extra into DOGS if needed as they play immediately after us.

First tee off from two tee boxes at 10:50 when we should all be away by around 11:30 on a course that appears to be rather more agreeably professional in its approach to such things than a number of the courses we have played recently; naming no names.

See yah Sunday!! …. Tee Set

Just a small point of curiosity ref 200,000 variance with D.O.G.S Senayan fees…..

Fee: Sundays rate Rp 500.000 – Saturdays will be Rp 600.000 NOTE: This does not include buggy fee, there are limited buggies available on this walking course and will be charged at a fee of Rp 200.000 per buggy”

      Rod, thanks for your comment.

DOGGY style is to play at their chosen location for 6 weeks in a row, while Tee Set chooses to wander far and wide. There are many advantages to wandering but the drawback is that we are not able to secure the very finest of rates a la DOGS.

Information is power, however, and when we learned of the more than expected difference in rates, Wina was able to get our own knocked down by a further 100,000 to what we still consider a remarkable rate for such a fine course.
