The Day
The return to Matoa was all quite painless with traffic good both there and back.
No doubt due to the torrential over night and early morning rain, the course was pretty quiet, as evidenced by a near empty car park and a nice even 28 Tee Setters showed up to play with n0-shows nicely balanced out by walk-ons, though no carts, due to the overnight rain, meant some unplanned exercise for a few.
The starter did us proud with all 7 flights away by 11am, something which took a few by surprise, having to change their coffee orders to “to go”
Those who were expecting a cold wet day and stayed away got it wrong. Although the course was a little wet and mushy in places the days was ideal golfing weather, with sun and wind burn rather than wet clubs the outcome. Also great drinking weather for a certain group that went a Bintang a hole for 18 holes and were still quenching well after the round had finished.
Chris Smith game along to Tee Set recruiting Interleague players for Loose Impediments. Must be a fine in there somewhere, Chris!
Three Newcomers on the day, husband and wife Simon Warmerdam and Cuny Vermeer and, taking a break from the snow and icebound conditions of Washington DC to experience a Jakarta in flood, Ahmad Ahsan. A warm Tee Set welcome to them all!
The Play
Congratulations to Mel Meeds on shooting the round of his life to come in with a net 67 and 5 under par to take Low Net while Sam Western shot 78 off the stick in a score that will not harm his handicap of just 2 these days in taking Low Gross as usual, while Chris Murchison’s 28 blows with the putter was good enough to take Low Putts.
Ken Runyon took 1st Birdie on the 1st while Graham McGeady took 1st Sandy on the same hole. Paul Lowndes managed to improve by 9 shots on his back nine to take Most Improved though his winnings were offset by one of only two Skirts awarded on the day.
The second Skirt went to Newcomer Ahmad Ahsan who, clearly unversed in our ways, was to leave without settling his fines!!
Jan Jelinek was a little unfortunate to find himself Monster Putter with 38 putts on the day when it is usually taken by somebody in the forties. Unfazed, Jan displayed considerable affection towards a monkey still recovering from the grievous bodily harm inflicted upon him recently by today’s Low Net winner.
Fuller player by player results can be found here while more photos of the day can be seen in our photo archive.
Next Sunday
Next week sees us at the season’s curtain raiser for the Interleague competition at Jagorawi when 30+ 2 man teams will be battling it out for the honours in Texas Scramble format.
A shotgun start at 9:30 with green fees including compulsory shared cart of 950,000 roops – and with an Interleague charge of 50,000 on top bringing it to a nice round 1 million.
Register at “Yes, I’m playing!” as usual when you should indicate if you have agreed with anyone else about forming a 2 man team, otherwise leave it to us to allocate your partner.
See yah Sunday … Tee Set

Great photos but it looks like Jan it getting really attached to that monkey….did he take it home with him? 🙂
