The Day
As the sunset over Imperial, the Immediate Past President of Almost Everything, left alone at the helm, reflected on a day of milestones. It was the last day of the Idul Fitri holidays, meaning gridlock traffic would become the norm again come Monday. It was the sixth and final round of our fun eclectic competition held at the very popular Imperial Klub. Back to back with the eclectic round was the Monthly Medal where the Slaney’s meat voucher was up for grabs. If this wasn’t enough to entice players out on Sunday then the fast toll run and the empty course must have been the icing on the cake….and the caddies…what a difference a week makes!
A record number of newcomers this week ably abetted by the presence of 8 recruits from Thailand. Welcome to Sompop Chancharoen, Boonyarit Jaiya, Chowvalit Meechow, Jaturaporn Pibankul, Moragot Krutaroj, Paisan Thanasitsomboon, Pongsawat Ratanawichen and Pridsada Naiwiriya. Welcome guys!
Also playing their first games were Jean Pierre Falenbok and Josef Winter who we also offer a warm welcome to Tee Set. Oddly we were unable to entice any of the 10 newcomers to purchase the iconic Tee Set golf shirt but there is always next week. Welcome back players were Travis Mathews with a massive 176 weeks away, followed by Manoj with 41 and Debbie Minicola on 20. Manoj was clearly keen for some healthy exercise:
The Play
51 players making up 13 flights headed out from the restaurant after a light lunch and a few beers, amazingly ahead of our booked 11:45 tee time… a first for Imperial. The course was quiet, the round fast but still the sun was setting as we climbed the steps back to the clubhouse. Although plans had been put in place for a fast track entry of scores to be able to announce the eclectic winner a small SNAFU prevented this from happening.
Scorecards were not our usual specially designed monthly medal cards so players were a bit challenged to find space to write all the info required by Brenda. Coupled with poor lighting in the restaurant it was decided to just work out the monthly medal results and come back later with the eclectic champ once the committee has had the chance to double check all cards and calculations. A suitably eclectic Perpetual Eclectic trophy will be ready by next month, along with a replica for the champ to keep.
Imperial is always a Treasurer’s favourite with 8 skirts recorded again.
All paid up their fines although I don’t see 8 in the photo. No monster putter or lowest putts were awarded this week due to the lack of space on the score card, but we can now at least recognise Jaroslav and Rasmus who, unlike many, managed to record their putts. Most strokes was King Tirto with 13 and today’s round of 121 may come back to haunt King after he started in poll position in the eclectic. Longest drive went to Joseph d’Cruz who was the only one to keep his ball on the belly of Madonna on hole 12. Closest to the pin was VP Simon Reynolds who strangely enough was the one who chose hole #5 for this challenge.
First birdie on the 2nd showed Bags is still shooting straight, first sandy was shared by Chowvalit and Graham on the 4th, Mick was happy to come back 14 strokes lighter for Most Improved, and Pastis Pascal, felt compelled to share his award for first par over 30 handicap with a rather nervous Brenda.
And now for the Monthly Medal and the Slaney’s meat voucher…drums rolling …a massive 45 stableford points this week by Jan Jelinek shooting 9 under his handicap. Jan has been steadily improving for some time. Congratulations Jan on a fantastic round and those 45 stableford points are going to be hard to better in the future.

Tee Set Matchplay
Apologies to those whose matchplay results have not been conveyed yet. We can report from Facebook monitoring that VP Simon won his match with Mustafa 4 and 3, after being 3 down at one stage, to retain an undefeated matchplay record this year in interleague and Tee Set matchplay…to be fair to Chris Smith we have to acknowledge their epic draw in Tee Set’s round against Loose Impediments.
Next Up
This coming Sunday we have a special treat for Tee Set. Thanks to the generosity of Richard Mau of Luwansa Hotel, a one time only rate has been secured to play nine holes of the Jagorawi Old course coupled with the Z-nine. Jags being a private course there will be very few opportunities to play this course in stroke play unless you play with a member. The green fees with shared cart will be a never to be repeated Rp525K only so don’t miss this opportunity to play what many consider is the premier course of Jakarta.
Tee time is 11am so leave the bar and set the alarms a little earlier than usual…and register here.

Well done Craig. Appears you’ve got this WordPress thing cracked.
Given my travelling lately, I may need to be renamed from Singing to Remote 🙂
