The Day
The Imperial sunset never wears thin!
Weary Ironmen (and women) recovered from a fantastic 45 Hole Friday at Jagorawi and regular Tee Setters returned to Imperial Golf Klub to enjoy the joys and heartbreaks of another Monthly Medal round and the first of our second Tee Set eclectic competition.
A total of 44 players and a number of partners enjoyed the day. Newcomer John and welcome back Rod – pictured here – look particularly happy. Other newcomer Simon almost took newcomer Marcus’s head off on the island 4th hole – with beginner Simon thinking he was safe to dribble one up the fairway up the right but managing to connect, clear the water and draw one perfectly to within feet of Marcus – profuse apologies followed!
The Play
Getting straight to the highlights, the round of the day was clearly from Monthly Medal winner King – justice after his narrow eclectic loss last month – with an outstanding 44 points. Pastis Pascal (with a “c”) also played out of his proverbial to win Net C Grade with a nett 70, Norman continued fine Imperial form with a 69 to win Net A Grade and Craig Edwards was the best of a fairly ordinary bunch of B Graders with a net 73. Simon again took out low gross with an 82. James joined King for the presentation to receive his long overdue voucher for a previous monthly medal or two or three.
We managed to get our act together for a change with Skills Prizes and chose some different holes – with Jaco putting his drive 257m up the middle of Madonna and Jaturaporn coming to within a few feet for Nearest to the Pin. Jaturoporn also first par over 30 and was Most Improved with 14 strokes but that prize was referred to next in line and very happily pictured here, Jiro, with 7. Ric and Jaco waited no time to get a sandy par on the 1st, Alistair won low putts with 27 blows and Fernando continued on from his 6 birdies at the Iron Man with another one on the first hole…brought to us all by El Guapo Enterprises….and shared with the ever improving Lina.

As usual there was no shortage of skirts – a United Nations led by the Singing President (who blamed the Pastis fed to him by playing partners King and Pascal) and Al in the wild wig. Chris deserves a special mention for a late skirt confession – yes – I can confirm for future reference of Tee Setters (male and female) that an air swing on the tee is indeed a skirt! We may yet see Cucu in a Tutu again!
Luiz – yes it is him under the mask – counted 49 putts to be the monster for the day.
There are not too many finer 19th holes in Jakarta – good food, friendship and frozen margaritas.
Tee Set Matchplay
A great battle was played out between Vice President Simon and Tee Set Interleague stalwart Murcho with Murcho holing putts from everywhere and coming through victorious 1 up. This of course thwarted the much anticipated President-Vice President challenge in the next round, but gives Murcho a welcome chance of revenge for last year’s Slugfest at Senayan.
Next Up
There has been considerable confusion and debate about next week. We are booked into play at Guning Geulis with some preferring a shift to old favourite Pondok Cabe. Interested in your feedback but we may have to stick to our commitment at GG. Register here as usual.

GG old course is worth playing, providing one does not travel back to Jakarta afterwards.
Nothing up the Jagorawi toll road is worth the effort on a sunday afternoon except during Ramadan.
Well done mate. I’ll be in the Pulau Seribu this weekend so will have to pass the Tee Set bags and lift duties for Brenda to another player staying in Kemang. Anlo lives just around the corner.
Prefer Pondok Cabe due to distance and time getting back
I will not be playing facing 2 hrs of Sunday traffic after golf is not my idea of a good days golf
