The Day

As the heavens opened to let our mate George in, thunder, lightning and torrential rain came down, marking the long delayed start of the rainy season and scaring the bejeebas out of many of us on the course.  Some of the 35 who found shelter managed to finish their round but most were forced to retire wet and glad to be out of the lightning.  Strangely the course had not sounded a siren – or at least we could not hear it – so we suspended play and declared the competition a 9 hole competition, based on the first nine.

Fortunately those who finished 18 had their best nines first so did not complain too much.  Their free pitcher of beer was well gone down the gullets of those waiting, but they were duly compensated by a sympathetic Treasurer.

Welcome back to Divya after 18 weeks and welcome to the first time for Pekka, hope to see you continue as a regular.

Welcome back from Everest Base Camp to Neil Mullins – great effort – the trek and the 12 days without booze. Pictured here in trusty golf cap.

At last we got to the presentations and took off for the two hour plus journey back down the Toll – not a journey too many are prepared to repeat next week, hence the change of venue below.

Scoring teamBig thanks to Ric, Mel, Liz and Bebi for combining to ensure we had secretarial support.  Ric was one week early for a wedding so managed to get back well in time for the free pitchers and to help out as usual.

The Play

SkirtsLet’s get to the skirts first…yep Mel and Matt were happy to hand over the skirt and wig to Bushy and the Singing President, while Mick was just happy after a couple of free pitchers and a good day out.

Winners B and CBushy soon got his money back sharing Low Putts with Cucu and Chris – alas, Chris had left already leaving the spartans who played on to collect the cash.

Keith managed to take the first sandy and answer Ric’s challenge for a more creative winner’s pose, and Renny continued what has become a habit with first par over 30, co-ordinating her outfit this time with the 100k.

First somethingFirst par

But the rounds of the day went to Laurie with a net 30 on the front nine to win B Grade and Cucu with a net 32 to win C Grade.  We almost left Cucu out due to a scoring hiccup but Tom (pictured here) stuck up for her and a quick review confirmed her as winner.  No A Grade was awarded because there were no A Graders left, well except Neil Mullins who took out first birdie…but was still suffering altidude sickness so would rather us not disclose his score…instead of a money shot, we’ll include another one from his trip.

Next Up

After the long and bladder-testing drive home we are reconsidering the scheduled Rainbow Hills and will let you know in the next couple of days.

Tee Set Elections

Tee Set can best be described as a limited democracy. Every year at the Club Championships we elect the Tee Set President and Vice President; that’s about the end of the democracy really, unless someone really make sense, which happens occasionally.  Nominations for the positions of President and Vice President are now open and can be registered here.
