The Day
A few late sign-ups ensured we had a healthy holiday period turnout of 39 Tee Setters this week as we headed to Cengkareng under bright sunny skies. With Sunday being the Monthly Medal, the final round of Eclectic Cycle VIII and the last week-end of the current Match-play round, there was a lot going on.
With our secretary still away, VP Ric Wymer and President Roger Finnie were kept busy making sure everybody got out on time and the results were processed in good order with an extra thank you to former President, Pascal “Pastis” Bekaert, for helping out with all the camera work during the prize-giving. Despite the best efforts of this dream team, we still had a couple of hiccups with the Monthly Shield being left behind at home and some of the photos not uploading properly…. apologies to those winners whom we miss photos of below and we will update the blog as soon as they are recovered.
Other than these couple of snafus, the day went off as efficiently as ever with the Cengkareng staff ensuring all the set-ups were done for the monthly medal and that we went off on time at 12pm. With only a slight breeze to contend with, everybody enjoyed a smooth round and were back in good time to enjoy a few refreshments, Margaritas being the beverage of choice for those who stayed for a little longer into the evening.
One new comer to welcome this week, David Kelly, and several welcome backs with Brett Shields after 22 weeks and Jannes Tjaden after 17 weeks being the most notable, in time that is….
We look forward to seeing you all out again sooner rather than later. Photos of the day are here.
Please note the change in venue for next Sunday from that previously announced as we discovered yesterday that Suvarna was not ready to host groups. Also many upcoming golf events outside of Tee Set are listed below for those interested.
The Play
A good day of golf with most players getting around without too much trouble but as always at Cengkareng a healthy return of fines to keep the Treasurer happy. A tri-fecta of booby prizes for Detlef Blumke for his 11 on a hole, a skirt and 40 putts this week but at least for the skirt photo he had the company of David Kelly, Brett Shields, Joshua Alexander and Michael Reading. Also getting a skirt but arriving a little later so he could enjoy the full outfit was Don Duttlinger.
Most Improved went to Kayla Graham who had a much more impressive back 9 to shave 15 strokes off her outward half. Making it a family affair was dad, Scotty Graham, who took home Low Putts for his 29 stroke effort. Taking out the skill prizes on hole 1 were Arne Tjaden for First Birdie and Alastair Livingston for First Sandy Par.
Showing his skirt was really a lay-up, Joshua Alexander took home Low Gross with his 79 off the stick. Our Low Net winners this month were Roger Finnie in A Grade (70), Wahyu Budi in B Grade (71) and Pascal Bekaert in C Grade (79).
In the Monthly Medal prizes, Long Drives were taken by Wina Nugraha and Matthew Cherrett whilst Eric Park was closest to the pin on hole 17 at 141cm. Matthew’s effort coming as part of his 5&4 victory in the match-play against Nick Gleeson.
After missing out on 2 prizes last month, it was a pleasure to see Craig Edwards take home the July Monthly Medal and he will get his name engraved on the shield in due course.
Our last award of the day, and one of our missing photos!, was for the Eclectic Trophy. After his great round to win the June Monthly medal, Amol Singhal had a comfortable lead of 5 strokes and despite some final day charges from David Baglivo and Wahyu Budi, he held on to take the prize for Cycle VIII.
Congratulations to all the winners and detailed scores are here.
Inaugural Finna Challenge
Many thanks to the Singing President Craig Ewers for coordinating this event to which 18 Tee Setters and families went to catch up with Simon Reynolds and play 2 of Surabaya’s top courses. Congratulations to Fernando Gaggino who won the event and the report of the week-end is here.

Next Up: Emeralda Sunday 5th August 2018 11.30am

With Modern having a tournament this week, we had planned and announced a trip to see the new layout of Suvarna Golf (the old Halim II). Selflessly, President Roger Finnie went to check it out yesterday and found that whilst the course itself is in great condition, the facilities and surrounding areas are still under development. So we have decided to leave this experience for another weekend a few months down the track and answer the many requests to return to Emeralda.
With its 27 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer you can walk the footsteps of legends whilst enjoying one of the more picturesque courses we will play this year. Usually difficult to get good group booking slots at a reasonable price, Emeralda has been off our calendar for a couple of years so we are pleased to include it this year to our schedule. The rate of Rp950k includes the cart and with an early tee time we will be able to enjoy fully the day and not be too late returning home.
To come and join in all the fun of a Tee Set Sunday please sign up here.

As you may guess from the name, the event is held over the 45 holes of Jagorawi Golf & Country Club with the emphasis on a golfing iron-man challenge to walk and play all 3 courses in a day. Carts are available for those who decide to relax during the day but with a penalty applied per 9 holes for their use.
Your score will be counted as the best four 9 hole scores with the Best Net and Best Gross 36 hole scores getting to take home the finest trophy in Jakarta, here modeled by President Roger Finnie who won Best Net last year.
