A visit to Pangkalan Jati

No we weren’t playing on a course by the sea we were playing PJs. The golf course that is the pride of the Indonesian Navy. Money has been spent on carts and drink stops and some cart paths but the fairways were the usual PJ stuff the rough was a bit clingy but the greens were very nice after playing through Ramadan on cored and heavily sanded greens. These greens were pretty bloody good. The beer price at the drink stops was as close to perfect as possible I may start drinking at the drink stop on the 7th a bit cheaper then the B&V and EP. Maybe rockets to the top of the Albert Beer Index Chart.

The usual PJ delaying system of not being able to pay before 11am in case we try and sneak on for morning prices. Let’s put it this way there were maybe 20 others at the golf course at this time, including GAry Milburn’s father. An elite field of TeeSetters took to the course with hopes of great scores, elusive eagles but in the knowledge that they were in good companionship with their TeeSet brothers and sisters. Vijay was in the FIRST flight and he was a different person. Not because of the flight but the lack of hair, a completely hairless orb. It might catch on but I doubt it.

The day started well with 4 great opening drives from Dean, Ex-President Thwaites, Alberto and myself. They were so good Dean mentioned that we may as well return to the shed as they would be hard to improve on. How right he was, in my case. Bad shots were bookended with course language, the sort of language an Indonesian sailor would use. The day got hotter and hotter, the group in front moved further away, my shots moved further away from the fairway. Man it has hot, Dean was huffing and puffing, Geoff was checking his pill supply, Alberto was checking his reflection. On the 7th hole of the day I checked the temperature and it was birds falling out of the sky hot.

In Perth, which can also get pretty hot you have the Fremantle Doctor which hits the coast mid afternoon on most summer days. In Jakarta we have the cloud build up and after a couple of holes on the back 9 the temp hand become bearable. Our pace quickened and our spirits were lifted as we faced the final 6 holes. Then I started swearing again as the 3rd double par was etched into MyGolf2u forever. It was a hard slog but we made it back in one piece. My ball bag had taken a beating but.

The first groups were well into their cups or mandi time. I order what was first to be one of quite a few cold cleansing Bintang pilsners (unfortunately no Anker). Soon all were gathered and the winners were announced.

Low gross on the left, Alberto and low net on the right, Jens. Well done lads Hang on also first bird on 2 for Alberto and a Sandy par on 10 for Jens

Low putts for Geoff wink, wink, nudge, nudge say no more.

Gading Raya this Sunday sign up on MyGolf2U will be an absolute cracker greens in post Ramadan perfection. Don’t delay sign up today to avoid disappointment.
