Matoa Monthly Medal, Sunday 28th April

32 Tee Setters took to the Matoa course from both 1st and 10th tee boxes – and in a reasonably orderly fashion thanks to the energetic, if a little exasperated, Ric Wymer, who had to set up the pairings with the added confusion of two Tee Set Match Play games to be played.

While we have Ric on the radar, I am pleased to advise that he has accepted the Vice President position falling vacant as a result of the recent resignation of Peter Reichlmeier due to a heavy business workload though until at least the end of the year. Thank you Peter for your great efforts, personal sponsorship and the leadership you have unstintingly given Tee Set over the past five years. Ric, welcome back to the fold.

We were graced with the presence of Miss Riri and her charming friend,  Fitri,at Matoa, manning a marketing stand for some strategically located houses in Bandung. Thank you girls and to Dago Real Estate for your generous sponsorship of this month’s Medal.

RESULTS

Noemi flanked by runner up Chris Murchison and the Pres.

Noemi flanked by runner up Chris Murchison and the Pres.

This month’s winner was Noemi Roos with a fantastic 41 points.

CONGRATULATIONS to Noemi for a great effort. You have bragging rights for the next month to go with  the prizes.

Many thanks to Slaney’s Butchery for the first prize award of a tray of meat and to Dago Investment for the bottles of wine for first and second place.

Fittingly, our Medal runner-up with 39 points was Chris Murchison, a man known to appreciate his wine.

Murchison takes a firm hold of his prixe!!

Chris  taking a firm hold of his prixe.

No less than seven players recorded more than 36 Stableford points on the day, which perhaps indicates that when there is something to play for then scores improve.

Good for the game and improves the standard without spoiling any of the fun.

Skill prizes were awarded for Longest Drive on hole 9 with a massive 276m effort from Evaldo Roos and nearest the Pin on hole 12 with 4.6m went to Sam Westen. Congratulations to you both!

Keith Miller and Mark Fiorello both got their money back due to rather hot putters on the day with an impressive 27 putts apiece.

matoa prizes???????????????????????????????While there were 3 skirts on the day, only Paul Evison was to stick around long enough to get the wearing of a skirt and wig event recorded for history; well done Paul!

Detailed results from the day’s round can be found here.

WELCOME!

We are pleased to see a steady stream of newcomers to Tee Set and today saw debuts for Paul Davidson, Anthony Kurniawan and Carsten Olse joining us. Welcome to Tee Set to you all.

MATCH PLAY

Something of a nail biter between Anthony King and Fernando Gaggino with Anthony prevailing on the very last hole in a “game of two halves” from a well  matched pair. Long hitting Fernando could not match the positional play of Anthony on the front nine and looked down and out at 5 down. However, golfing gods prevailed and the back nine proved more to Fernando’s liking, coupled with the fact that Anthony’s putter seem to be super-charged as he found every down/side hill lie on most greens and flew the ball well past the hole.

So after 17 holes it was match all square and drives on the par 5 18th saw Fernando hitting just off the fairway and Anthony in the bunker. Second shots pretty even in the middle and Anthony hitting first saw a great shot pull up short but just staying out the front bunker. Fernando had the adrenalin coursing through his veins at this stage – and blasted his approach some 10 metres over the green into the lush grass. A dilly dip from Fernando and an acceptable chip from Anthony was enough for Anthony to squeeze home by the one hole.

In the day’s seond match, Geoff Thwaites had no answer to a very fine 38 on the back 9 from Chris Murchison to go crashing out of the event despite shooting under his handicap – and has therefore to wait another year for a chance to win that long coverted Matchplay Championship!

30TH ANNIVERSARY

One for your diary is the Tee Set 30th anniversary event to be held at the very special Royale Jakarta on Sunday 7th July. This is a major milestone in Tee Set’s history with, yes, 30 years completed without missing one weekend round  of golf. Please join in and let all your friends know that they are welcome to join the golf and festivities including a fabulous post round lineup of entertainment, with a band and other attractions which are guaranteed to keep us entertained and laughing into the evening.

NEXT WEEK

On Sunday 5th May we will be at the excellent Palm Hill, the home of some of Jakarta’s prettiest caddies and waitresses when Green Fees etc will be 508,000 including compulsory shared cart.  Teeing off from 1 and 10 at 11:30. Don’t be late as we may get a way a tad earlier.

As ever please complete the “Yes, I’m playing” form if you intend joining.

Hope to see you on Sunday!! ….  Geoff Thwaites

PS The annual Highland Games are coming up this month and as ever there will be a golf event in the form of a 4 man/woman scramble as part of it. We usually put at least one team in for a day that really has everything, including a reasonable price, and comes highly recommended. Take a look here if you are interested in putting together a team.

Next Up: Monthly Medal at Matoa, Sunday 28th April

NEXT UP

It has been a while since our last Monthly Medal due to the March edition being  crowded out by the Bandung Bash and Interleague, so we have no doubt that plenty of Tee Setters will be up for a Stableford contest that provides indisputable bragging rights – for a month or so anyway.

weights

A number of players are reportedly on strict diets, weight lifting programmes and extra driving range practice while, rather more sensibly, the rest of us just quietly pray for one of those “good days” that come along from time to time.

There is a Rp. 500,000 meat voucher prize for the Monthly Medal winner from Medal Sponsors Slaney Meats while immediate Past President Wymer is hinting  that reward this time may go further down the list.

As well as the Medal Prize(s) we willl have the usual Tee Set prizes and, erm, not-so-prizes including nearest to the pin and long drive, as the President himself is back from a 3 week swanny in Ozz and is known to be rather keen on these categories.

Kick off at 11:00 from two tee boxes with Green Fees etc. including shared buggy coming out at Rp. 650,000. Caddy tip extra of course.

If you intend playing  on Sunday then, please, register here as usual.

MATCH PLAY

Most of the sudden death Tee Set Match Play pairings are now decided and you can find out who you are playing here. Please play these just as soon as possible, remembering to report results to Jesse Baker.

There is a deadline of 30th April for completion of the first round of the competition with arbitration by the committee  sould they remain unplayed.

Finally, the first new Golf Tale in a while is well worth a read, not least if y0u want to understand a little of the English and their humour.

Hope to see ya there on Sunday!  …. Tee Set

Gunung Guelis – Sunday 21st April

THE DAY

Tee Set is of course a reasonably regular visitor to the delights of Gunung Guelis though, for at least the last three years anyway, we have always played on the West course, so it was the first time on the East course today for many of us. And the change was not to herald a disappointment with a small majority taking the view that the East course is even better scenically and on the fairways if a little behind on the greens.

Thirty three starters on a day the course hosted not one, but two Jakarta golf societies. The DOGS with a similar number of starters took over the West course while Tee Set took over the East. One assumes club members had been informed in advance to play somewhere else.

The restaurant staff had also been warned of the course being overrun by orang putih and, as a result, the cold beer stocks were bolstered and proved more than adequate for once. Thanks to Wina and Endang for organizing the booking and getting such a competitive rate of Rp. 688,000  Appreciation also to Mike Garwood, the Tee Set “hit man“, who convinced course management into letting us out 30 minutes early onto an empty course. With the course almost in darkness by 16:30 we would never have finished otherwise.

A true mountain course and Mike Romango was to observe on the twelfth that the entire course was quite bereft of a piece of flat ground. This was quickly proven to be false as, at the very next hole, he found a relatively flat bit – though perched rather precariously between two bunkers as you will see in the following photo.

Mike R

Even more than its sister to the West, the East course’s mountain location made it essential to consult with an experienced caddy if the correct answer is sought to the rather basic question of, “is this putt uphill or downhill?!”

WEATHER REPORT

The DOGS benefited from the presence of our resident Pawang  Hujan, thus enjoying rainless conditions all day although there were plenty of thunder rumblings coming from the overcast skies. The pressure of keeping the rains away proved too much for Graham himself, however, as he was to lose his match play to David Baglivo two up with one to play despite his brilliance on the greens to stay in the game.

PLAY

GGscores

Welcome to new recruit Sam Western who played off handicap 7 and has thus far managed to fly under the Tin Cup’s talent scout’s radar. Showed plenty of potential to take on the cream of Interleague’s match play competition with a solid 82 off the stick. Nicky Moir is another showing plenty of potential, although breaking 40 on the back nine is not so brilliant when considering his front nine 51.

If Nicky Moir’s 51/39/90 was a ploy to claim the Rp.100,000 for the most improved award then it certainly worked, while Reka Romango took low net yet again with a 68 and is now firmly in the sights of the handicapper. Great effort from Mark Fiorello who shot the best round of the day with a gross 79. Probably would have done the same last week at Bogor Raya had he been able to penetrate the Puncak road gridlock and actually reach the course.

Low putts went to Graham McGeady with a remarkable 25 while in the absence of the President, the rest of the half asleep committee failed to organise nearest to the pin and long drive.

skirtsGiven how far some of the ladies tee boxes were ahead of the blue ones, the Treasurer had a rather modest crop of Skit fines this week at just four.

As you may see from the smiles on the faces of this week’s victims, the skirt appears to no longer put the fear into the hearts of Tee Setters that it once did. The committee is working on a few ideas.

Detailed player by player results can be seen here.

NEXT WEEK

Next Sunday, being the last of the month, will see us at Matoa for the Monthly Medal where Tee Setters will be setting forth with optimism and thoughts of the glory of winning Tee Sets second medal event. Stableford scoring of course and maybe check out the Monthly Medal page here. Main prize for highest Stableford points will be a tray of meats from Slaney’s Butchery worth Rp. 500,000. Might even be a couple of other consolation prizes on offer,

We will be starting from two tees at 11:00 having paid our green fees etc of Rp. 650,000 including shared cart. As usual, please register for the event by filling in the details on the “Yes, I’m playing!” form here.

See you Sunday!! – Tee Set

Next up: Gunung Guelis, Sunday 21st September

GG Par 3Another treat in store this weekend for Tee Setters with the last leg of our three-week Bogor area road trip, this time to the very lovely, and stunning in parts, Gunung Guelis. Tee off will be from two tee boxes at 11:30 with Green Fees, Caddy Fee and shared cart being a reasonable 688,000 roops, caddy tip extra.

Should you intend playing then please register here as usual. Following Adam Scott’s fantastic win in the Masters you may not wish to share a cart with an Aussie this weekend; an Aussie who would doubtlesss spend the whole round expounding on the wonder that is Aussie golf; if so, then please indicate this in the comment field on the form and we will do our best.

Handicaps have been updated with last weekend’s rounds and you will find your handicap for Gunung Guelis here.

Our redeveloped website kicked off in December and has been generally well received as a useful resource for currently active Tee Setters, the many who have moved on – and, not least, for those moving to the city and looking for an outlet for their passion for golf in a friendly setting surrounded by fellow golf nuts of very varying abilities. In this latter respect, and most happily, putting “Jakarta Golf Society” into the Google search box brings up our site as the top search result!

Tee Set ViewsDelighted to report therefore that page views to date passed 10,000 around 02:15 on Tuesday morning,

While unlikely to cause sleepless night for either the aforementioned Google or Facebook this does appear to support the view that we are hitting our target audiences.

That the 10,000th visitor was from the Republic of Korea is a clear sign that we are “global” though, as you will see from the table to the left, our core demographic is very firmly centred in Indonesia, with 75% of all views originating there.

Thanks for watching, see ya Sunday!

PS Chazz Hassig’s Missus is insisting that their cellar be cleared out of at least some of Chazz’s years of accumulated golf paraphernalia, some great bargains to be found here. A sports injury oriented physiotherapy clinic has opened at the Krystal Hotel and you will find details of both this and the objects of Mrs Hassig’s ire in Classifieds.

Jagorawi and Bogor Raya, Sunday 14th April

THE DAY

Tee Setters found themselves split over two courses today, with the Interleague Team being at Jagorawi while the rest of us punters were at Bogor Raya. Rather oddly, our Pawang Hujan-in-Residence, Graham McGeady, decided to add a third venue by turning up at Gading Raya – and wondering why everyone else was so late.

Quite remarkably, the Grumpy Pirate’s driver, Tony, managed to get his boss to the Bogor Raya tee box just in time to join his allotted flight following an heroic 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from Gading to Bogor.

A driver who can do that without killing you? Priceless, though there were however to be other consequences as you will discover by reading on.

Next up: Jagorawi and Bogor Raya

There are two excellent options on offer for playing Tee Set this coming Sunday:

Jagorawi

Hither?

The scenic and challenging Jagorawi New Course where you can join the Tee Set Interleague Team who are taking on Sandbaggers in the second round of this year’s Interleague matches.

Start time will be around 30 minutes after the Interleague matches have gone off in a mini-shotgun start at 9:30am. Green Fees, Caddy Fees, shared cart and Interleague fees come to 1 million roops.

Handicaps for Jags can be found here.

or thither?

or thither?

The alternative is Bogor Raya, a top class venue with mountain views, lovely caddies and immaculate fairways and greens – and a clubhouse and facilities that few can match.

Tee off here is officially 13:00 but we hope to get away earlier as in previous visits. Green Fees, Caddy Fees and shared cart are set at 635,000 roops.

Handicaps for Bogor Raya can be found here.

Whichever option you take, then if you haen’t already, please register appropriately on the “Yes, I’m playing!!” page – and have a great time on Sunday!

Finally a reminder that the HOGS will be having their annual HOGFEST in town on Saturday evening – an excellent opportunity to have a lot of fun and help unfortunate and disadvantaged Indonesian kids at the same time.

Drop Ed Bender Jr. a line if you are interested – more details here also.

Rancamaya, 7th April 2013

Rancamaya mountain viewThe delights of the very special Rancamaya course attracted a  new Tee Set record turnout for a regular Sunday event with an astonishing 60 Tee Setters joining in the fun – and with the first groups getting away an hour ahead of time from two tee boxes thanks to an otherwise quiet course and some  marginally FCPA compliant committee actions to speed things along.

With the immediate past President in charge of groupings, Ric was to tear out his slowly diminishing hair resource trying to cope with revision after revision based on early arrivals, the not so early arrivals and then the numerous late comers, not to mention the previously unregistered. Adding to his woes were the 8 match plays that needed to be  juggled into flights. He coped, just, possibly because that bit of the business is not yet computerised!

Pleasing to see the huge number of 26 Welcome Backs and also one Newcomer who was to win his Tee Set spurs ; welcome Guangzhao, enjoy your golf with us, you won’t always get the Monkey! An especially warm welcome back to a Siska Selbie who no longer counts Jakarta as home!

The course was in excellent condition with the greens being quite superb and perhaps benefiting a little by comparison with some of the ropey old greens we have played on recently; there was not a complaint to be heard about them and instead many expressed delight at just how true they played – and admitted that any missed putt was self-inflicted.

Lift, clean and cheat was in force due to the heavy rain the previous day, however, our Pawang Hujan couldn’t be blamed for that and he delivered the goods on the day despite being  preoccupied off-site learning how to take nude photos with just the right amount of exposure  – and this despite a number of threatening rumblings from above and the occasional bolts of lightning that were keep us on our toes.

Thanks Rancamaya for a delightful day and Jeurgen Degert for his always valuable assistance. We hope to be back before too long if you will let us!

As a  final bonus, traffic was bearable in both directions by the standards that apply hereabouts, though the evening run home may have been helped for many by staying on in the bar “waiting for the traffic to clear”. Just to prove that every silver lining has a cloud, however, complaints were heard from the Big Bird bus passengers that the journey back to town was too quick to finish off all the beers in the essky after Ronald Lim donated a slab of Bintang  – complementing nicely the Anchors provided by others.

FROM THE FAIRWAY

Prize winners this week were …

RM

Well done to Joseph Peries for taking low gross on a count back from an unlucky Simon Reynolds but this was not enough to resist an inspired Ric Wymer who beat Joseph in the matchplay – with Ric also taking low net, again on a countback.

In view of the huge turnout our Treasurer rather uncharacteristically decided to double up the payouts on all prizes – but  to leave monkeys and skirts etc at the same level. Can’t see that happening again in a hurry, so it would be unwise to rely on it in your pension planning.

Low putts at an excellent 26 went to Craig Binks who probably wishes he could carry Rancamaya’s greens around with him.

Special mention to Nicky Moir who managed to pump out a quite remarkable numbers of OBs – 8 of them and, despite this, still shot under 100!!

Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin didn’t go terribly well with results failing to be returned to the committee for processing and the decision made not to issue prizes. Thankfully, rumours of our President’s self-immolation appear to be just that, rumours.

Apocryphal evidence suggests that Santi Miller might have been the winner for her extra long drive on hole #11 while Joseph Peries might very well have won the neary for his attack on the pin on hole #3. Bad luck, both, though the Treasurer seemed happy enough with the ruling.

Ladies get quite an advantage off the red tees at Rancamaya much to the dismay of Mel Canterella who earned yet another skirt. However he was in very good company this time as proven by James Young who was in his element during the photo shoot having taken to the pink “tutu” with some relish as did Billy Mac. Our Pawang Hujan clearly has severe competition on the cross-dressing front these days.

Newcomer Guangzhao inflicted much pain on himself with 45 puts but he looked at one with the Monkey on his shoulder as you will see below.

Some unprecedentedlly happy recipients of today's booby prizes - well done guys, you made the show!!

Some unprecedentedly happy recipients of today’s booby prizes – well done guys, you made the day finish with some great laughs!!

Full details by player can be found by clicking here.

MATCH PLAY: Jesse Baker is doing a solid job of organising the Tee Set Match Play competition for 2013 and today finally saw the pace  upped considerably with a remarkable eight first round contests being resolved. Congrats to winners, commiserations to the losers – and you are all still in.  Please remember to always report your results promptly and directly to Jesse.

Match results were:, in no particular order;

Graham Barber beat Billy McCaroll 1 up

Harold Hayne beat Santi Miller5 and 4

Jesse Baker beat Koen Verhayen 2 and 1

Craig Binks beat Bob Fleischmann 6 and 4

Tom Alcedo beat James Ross 1 up

James Young beat Bill Lloyd 2 up

Mel Meeds beat Mustafa Baadad 1 up

Ric Wymer beat Joseph Peries 3 and 2

NEXT SUNDAY

Following a change in the schedule it is already Interleague time again at Jagorawi, where 8 of Tee Set’s finest will match up against Sandbaggers to see if the improved showing they had against Tin Cups last time out can continue!

In a recent development, leading the team will be Ric Wymer who replaces Peter Reichlmeier for the rest of the season due to Peter’s overwhelming work schedule. Thanks for your efforts Peter – and good luck, Ric!

Players who are not in the Tee Set Interleague team are, as ever, very welcome to join the team in playing the challenging Jagorawi New Course. Green fees including shared cart will be 1 million rupiah, somewhat offset by the usual Interleague Bloody Marys and Smoothies.

With there being Interleague at Jagorawi, we are once again to offer players an alternative venue – and this time it is the quite delightful Bogor  Raya course for which 4 flights have been provisionally booked. Considered by many to be amongst the very best Jakarta golf courses, Bogor Raya offers top class facilities,  immaculate playing conditions and a tough but fair challenge. The start will be at 12:00 midday (with the distinct possibility that we will be able to get away earlier a la Rancamaya today) – and with green fees, including shared cart, of just Rp 650,000, which is great weekend value for a course of its stature.

As ever, please register if you have the intent to join Tee Set next weekend by completing the simple form here, remembering to make the appropriate course selection, ie either Jagorawi or Bogor Raya!

AND FINALLY …

Take  the chance to support an organisation that does amazing work in improving the lot of Indonesian kids born with some terrible facial deformities. Contact Ed Bender Jnr. to get tickets for yourself and the family for next Saturday night’s annual HOGFEST 2013 starting around 6:30 pm . See you there!

2013 HOGFEST

Finally, thanks to one and all for making Tee Set the most recognised golf society in Jakarta. It’s all about the fun mixed in with a bit of golf  (and of course a little amber neck oil…..)

Cheers,

Next up: Rancamaya, 7th April 2013

just aim at the mountain ...

just aim at the mountain …

A relatively (and thankfully) early Tee Set return to the wonderful Rancamaya course outside Bogor next Sunday thanks, as ever, to longtime Tee Setter Juergen Degert who is a member there – and lives in a house at the side of the course – lucky bastard.

Tee off from teeboxes 1 and 9 will be at mid-day when we expect another bumper turnout from Tee Setters – including many for whom this is their favourite course.

Their number will not unfortunately include Dan Brod for whom Sunday is the day he moves to KL – we feel your pain, Dan, and will raise a glass to you as we relax on the terrace after the round and admire the mountain.

Green fees including shared cart is a modest 550,000 roops.

Clicking here will take you to the report from the first day of the Interleague season where Tee Set gets rather more coverage than usual – and not only for its golf!

See ya, Sunday!

PS So far, only two Tee Setters have expressed an interest in taking the Big Bird to the course (and back) from Kemang on Sunday, we need more to make it work – so do let Tuti know urgently if you would like to join the charabanc.

PPS your favourite organ has been informed that Mike Garwood actually cooked the chilli beans by himself in the kitchen at Giri Gahana last Saturday night – no maid involved; well done Mike, they were excellent!!

PPS rather slow progress to date in the Tee Set Matchplay, however, quite an an encouraging number of games are already arranged for Sunday at Rancamaya …. here are the results to date

1st round statusPPPS Finally, we are very happy to help the Harley Owners Group here in Jakarta by bringing to your attention their HOGFEST 2013. The HOGs do some amazing work for kids here in Indonesia and in particular have transformed the life prospects for so many poor Indonesian kids with hare-lip. They deserve our support.

Bandung Bash, 29th March – 1st April 2013

First up and most importantly, if you registered your intention to play Rancamaya next Sunday BEFORE 5pm yesterday, Tuesday 2nd April, then please REGISTER AGAIN NOW as, due to a technical hitch, anything before that time is now spinning around homeless and unloved on the Interweb and will continue to do so until undergoing a pre-ordained death in about five days.

Bandung Bash

????????

Once again we were to enjoy the beautiful course and surroundings of Giri Gahana Golf Resort Bandung, from 29th March to 1st April.

This family friendly event with adult humour incorporating the best of golf, parties, fun & fancy dress and of course the friendship of all who attended.

There can be no doubt that all this was to make for the best Bandung Bash so far. Thirty two players and their families were to participate and, by common consent, had a GREAT time.

Ibu Endang booked the entire hotel six months in advance to ensure we all stayed in the same hotel and, even more importantly, within staggering distance of the first tee box – as well as the restaurant room where the Bash itself was held on Friday and Saturday nights. Endang also coordinated all the bookings and registrations so we had a smooth check in and out without surprises. Many thanks to her!

The hotel and golf and caddy staff and Management were as friendly, courteous and attentive as ever and were even able to remember the names of the people who attended previous years events. Many thanks to them, also!

????????

The good outweighed the not so good by at least 100 to 1, however, there were a couple of challenges to report with just about taking the #1 spot being the traffic – on both the Friday and the Sunday. A very close #2 was to be the very poor state of the greens which were badly infected with something or other causing many significant and often large bald spots – and to add to the fun the greens had been cored the very day before we arrived – making putting a very serious challenge on virtually every hole.

Life is continuous learning and we will certainly avoid holiday weekends next year – and be having a quiet word in management’s shell like about their coring schedule. It will be little consolation to the many, however, that the six stalwarts who remained for play on Monday reported the greens in much better condition – and a trip home of just two and a half hours or less!!

Fancy dressers

PapaInspired by Graham McGeady’s annual cross dressing propensity, the committee decided to have a Fancy Dress Competition this year and  a great success it was to prove, with all attending breakfast on Sunday in fancy dress and with an obligatory photo shoot before 08:00 tee off. Fred Flintstone, Superman, several transvestites, a Caveman, Super Mario and many more were on display in a hilarious early event – and it looks like this will become another Bandung Bash tradition (groan).

The competition winner was Keith Miller in traditional Kazakh Akim’s regalia; though many in fact thought he was the newly elected Pope Francis – a perception he was not to discourage by providing traditional blessings to all as he passed by.

We appear to have a significant amount of hidden talent in our midst, with so many variously joining in singing, instrument playing, story telling, dancing and of course some quite outstanding feats of quaffing. Special mention must go to Bill, Nicky, Octa & Glynnis (spelling?) and John for their enthusiasm and outstanding entertainment value, with Bill winning a special award, a bottle of Australia’s finest, for his virtuoso reggae performance, a performance which had them rolling in the aisles. Bill also promises to go the whole hog and wear dreadlocks next year.

Montage

A montage of the  evening activities … thanks to all who contributed photos …

Noticeable only by their absence this year were Ric Wymer’s world-famous Margaritas. We shall all have to grovel a  little more before next year’s event 😦

The band this year were by far better than any previous year and have agreed to entertain us again at any special events we hae in Jakarta and, of course, next year’s Bandung Bash.

Let’s not forget the partners who very graciously provided us with much food, snacks, drinks and of course their loving and enthusiastic support, not least:

Octa for her lunchtime lasagne on Saturday (finished by the time your Editor got there 😦 )

Lis for banana cake in the morning both days and Sunday afternoon lasagne.

Mike Garwood’s maid for the chili bean cook-off Sunday morning

Cheeses, salami, dips, biscuits and all sorts of other good stuff and consumed during the evening meals.

The non-golfers enjoyed the shopping in the city, while the kids enjoyed fishing, swimming and anything else they could get away with. Thanks to all of them, we need your support next year when shopping and all else will be on the menu for your entertainment again of course.

Traditionally known as THE fun event of the year, the Bash proved to be just that again, in fact the best yet in the view of many regulars, and with Newcomer Chris Murchison being heard to say that “this is the best party I have ever been to in my life”.

The year’s event was assisted by a cast of characters that included, but was not limited to, Tuti, Ovcta, Peter, Ric, Graham and Keith who arranged pairings, goodies, food, drinks, prizes, scoring and all the other things that made for a great competition. Many thanks to them all

Golf Highlights (yes, we played some golf too)

Eagle on index #1 to Graham McGeady. Surprised even himself as he spent a couple of minutes looking for his ball before finally checking the hole and finding it in there on the elevated green.

Fourteen birdies all in for the 2 days.

Low Nett overall Graham McGeady (on a count back and discovered after the event, the President is scurrying around looking for an extra prize 🙂 )

Low Nett day 2 Noemi Roos

Low Putts overall Nicholas Moir

First Birdie day 1 Chris Murchison, day 2 Graham Stallworthy, Mel Meeds

First sandy day 1 Graham McGeady, day 2 Fernando, James Ross

Reka Romango first par >30 handicapper

Longest drive Cucu

Closest to the pin James Ross

Monster Putter Peter Boyd

Moss gross/nett score Mike Romango including a famous 17 on one hole!!

Tee Set Matchplay Championship

In amongst all the merriment, there were even some Teeset Machplay 1st round matches in Bandung and here they are:

Geary Bowles beat Mike Garwood, 1 up, winning on the last hole.

Peter Reichlmeier Beat Chris Murchison, 1 up, winning on the last hole.

Ben Kidd beat Jan Jandra in a putt off after being all square after 18 holes.

Shows how good the Tee Set handicaps are – but once again a plea to PLEASE LET JESSE BAKER know of all Matchplay Results as soon as you hae played your game!!!

Next Sunday

The good times continue to roll as we have a special treat for your delectation next Sunday in the shape of the wonderful Rancamaya course and all for the just as wonderful price of 550,00 roops including cart. First tee offs will be at 12:00 from tee boxes 1 and 10 so if you intend to join and haen’t registered already then head over now to the “Yes, I’m Playing!!” page. The Tee Set Schedule page is currently reporting a 9:30 tee of time, this is wrong so be aware that this has changed. We will organise the usual mini bus from Kemang if the numbers justify it – let Tuti know if you would use the service.

Finally, and on behalf of the Committee, I invite all Tee Setters to the 6th annual Bandung Bash at the same time, same place and on a date to be advised but very likely March 2014.

See you on the fairways soon ..

Geoff (Thwaites)

PS from the rest of the committee to the President – well done boss, you done good, thanks for all the effort you put in, great outcome!
