After A late start last week due to adverse weather, TeeSetters this week got away to a bit of a fly. Flanagan was stealing wedges from Alessandro, the President was wilting under the sun. Shortly after the round started we were hit with a brief downpour which cooled the day down.
Many golfers enjoyed their first 9 holes but Gading slipped in a few flights on the turn and this took the pace out of some early promising rounds as slow play sapped concentration. Bill Lloyd tore up the course playing off the whites, and Ryan Cairns put in a cracker of a round also, playing off the blues.
NEXT WEEK’S VALENTINE SCRAMBLE
We are off to Pondok Cabe for the annual Valentine Scramble. Always a lot of fun. Multi-sex couples both play off the red tees on this day. Each partner will need to get 6 drives in. Men who like the company of men have the advantage of choosing one to play off the Blues and the other off the Whites. Combine both handicaps and divide by 4 to see what you are using on Sunday. Great prizes for best dressed couple, best couple net, best 4 ball playing 2 balls net. Plus many lucky draw prizes and a special gift to celebrate Valentine’s Day on arrival. Sign up on MyGolf2U ASAP to avoid disappointment.
Anyway I have a pile of stuff to do so lets get on to the photos

Welcome back Frank and Anna Wilson

Tin winner this week Bill Lloyd who also took low putts. The lad likes the whites.

First sand par on hole 12 (3rd) Max.

The birdie boys Sami and Dairmuid for birdies on their first holes.

Low gross winner Emiliano, good to see you back.
With a huge rain cloud hanging over Jakarta golf seems to be a perilous sport to be playing with the constant threat of rounds not finishing, or even worse being rained out before it begins. Sunday dawned with just such conditions but with a quick visit to pawanghujan.com and an appropriate fee for the execution of a flock of chickens the President headed to the course confident of good weather. On arrival there was a sea breeze blowing in chasing the rain clouds away. The Pawang Hujan had done his job. The chickens I am told end up in KFC.
We had pretty much a fully booked round but due to a couple of injuries and illness we had a few late withdrawals. Guys we hope you have a speedy recovery and we soon see you swinging away at TeeSet. Numbers started to build as Adhe took the days fees and answered questions on pairings. The President was busy shaking down golfers to buy tickets in the meat tray raffle and Claudio was busy chatting up the ladies of TeeSet. A few golfers were having early beers to steady their nerves before the battle for the medal began.
Word came early that transportation around the golf course would only be by Shanks’ pony. The President reached for his knee and quietly wept. Next in was the news that tee off would be delayed by 30 minutes due to a big down poor in the morning which had delayed the morning rounds. Shortly after 12.15 most golfers headed to their respective starting tee, except JP who went to the wrong one. TeeSetters waiting on tee box 10 were entertained by a few flights of young Japanese golfers. Tee shots were flying everywhere. This boded badly for a slow round and the first 9 holes were pretty slow. Alastair nailed a nice sandy on the second, his birdie putt was pretty impressive also.
Due to the later start and some slow golfers in front of TeeSet a few flights finished in the dark. TeeSet endeavour to get tee times that enable us to finish in the light but sometimes Mother Nature frowns upon golfers. But one golfer who had the time of his life including an eagle and an impressive gross 70 off the whites was Richard Mau, great golfing.
Next Sunday we venture out to Gading Raya. Gading Raya will have carts available. We hope to see as many people there as we had last Sunday and that Soggy Jakarta starts to dry out a bit. There are another 5 weeks before we will have a winner in the shield so plenty of time to put in a couple of good rounds and make a challenge.
The TeeSet Valentines Day is coming up on the 12th. So guys grab ya lady friends and head out for this event at Pondok Cabe some great prizes to be won. It is a two ball scramble where couples play from the Red tees unless it is a 4 ball couple who will choose who is the fairer sex and one will play from white and the other blue. Always a great day and a bit of a laugh and some warm down drinks in the club house tend to last a bit longer than usual.
Over the Easter weekend there is the 17th Bandung Bash so if you are looking for some out of town golf check out this link http://www.bandungbash.com/ The course has its own toll exit and drive times are down to a tad over 2 hours.

Sunday’s Meadow and Bone meat tray winner was Richard Mau Please note TeeSetters you are entitled to a 10% discount from our mates at Meadow And Bone by using the code Tset15. Get some pork on your fork.

Kojo Monthly Medal Winner Alessandro he also won some beer.

Low Gross was Bobby, well done champ.

First Eagle to Richard who also picked up low putts. One of TeeSets more photogenic members (or frequently photographed).

Well done Velma for first birdie on the second hole.

Anna nailed one down the middle to take Ladies Long Drive Prize.

None of the big hitting men could hit it as far as TPS on Sunday. Well done on the monster.

Nearest the pin men and a perennial prize winner Claudio, always in the money.

Nearest the pin Ladies Sari, congratulations.

Adrian equal first Sandy on the Second hole(11th)

Alastair also had a Sandy on the second and the President slipped his prize over a beer later on. He doesn’t like crowds.

Siti takes the money for first Par 30+ Hcp. Well done.

Srinivas putts from off the green.

Roger preparing to club one down the middle on the 10th.

Jude, Mark & Viboon on the 18th

The current Shield leader, Dean, teeing off.

The rose amongst the thorns. Claudio, Sri, Sari, Juju, Velma and Siti
Having missed the round due to a trip down the Sunda Straight where 2 golf courses were reconnoitered. With one of them a potential weekend away event. More to come. Back to the big day at Damai, I heard many golfers took advantage of the late start to lounge around the excellent pool facilities available at the country club.
The game was played in windy but non-threatening conditions (rain that is) and all golfers made it back in ample time to have a few beers or a gyoza. A big thanks to Roger Finnie for hosting the day in the absence of the President. Good to see numbers of individuals that have played a round with Teeset since the 2022 Championship has soared past 100. The returning Ex-President Geoff Thwaites was one of those that added his name to the list of players in 2023.
J.P. Seveke (pictured below) returns to form and takes this weeks low net Tin Cup. Well done JP.

Claudio returns from holidays and picks up where he left off with a low gross win

Alastair’s first outing with Teeset under the new regime nets the man cash, for first Sandy.

Tapio takes the first birdie cash and best dressed in the clubhouse.

Jim, Roger and Darryl popped in for a visit. Good to see you.
To make TeeSet a successful group we host several events during the year most of which is paid for by your weekly Rp100k fee but there is always a bit more needed to cover our traditional events. These events are the Valentines 2 person Scramble, The World Cup, The TeeSet Birthday Scramble and the TeeSet Championship. At these events you, as members, reap the benefits of the weekly fee but we are always looking at doing the best we can for you so we ask for your help.
Meadow & Bone have offered a meat tray for us to raffle off at this week’s Kojo Monthly Medal. Tickets will be Rp 50.000 for 1 so make sure you buy 2.

Tee off time is midday get there 30 minutes before start in case of any late changes or re-arrangers. The earlier you register the earlier your flight will be. Remember to keep an eye on your speed of play to ensure you are not holding up others.
We had 8 flights taking on the 4 club challenge at Pondok Cabe last Sunday. The President arrived at the golf club sans golf clubs having packed everything else into the car. The pressure of leadership is telling early in his term. A well organised Eli Seabrook soon had a Grab car winging the clubs to Pondok Cabe. Other TeeSetters were looking much more relaxed having a pre-game beer or coffee. The conversations generally revolved around what players were packing in their bags.
Bill Lloyd took the opportunity to get in a bit of practice with his 3 wood which would be his putter today. From what I observed he could use it everyday. It was good to see Robert Fleischmann back for his first round for a while. The number of Italians playing continues to grow which is great to see in this multicultural golfing society. Adhe had organised the flights and now it was up to the players to organise their mode of transport those on foot having no trouble but those in golf carts have to scrounge hard with the management to get a key to a cart. It is quite amusing to watch as golfers climb into a cart all loaded with clubs, ice box and caddies only to find they have no key.
The groups teed off nearly on time and the round was a bit slow with some non-teeset groups taking a fairly long time to get through the first 9 holes. So remember TeeSetters always keep an eye on speed of play we don’t want to be holding up those behind us. The group I was in started with some booming drives and a handy shank from me. As we made our way around the course we all had some handy moments but by the 5th or 6th hole the comments about club selection started to filter into the conversation. I was happy with my choice just not the execution at some crucial moments. The greens were rock hard and it was hard to get a ball to stick, on the 18th a high lobbed pitch came down and bounced off the green like it had landed on concrete. Once you had secured the ball on the greens they rolled pretty true with 6 players returning sub 30 putt rounds.
Back in the club house most players stayed for a few cleansing alse and to relive their fleeting moments of golfing excellence with the others. Dean Merriless has put his meaty paws on the Shield as he powered his way to 41 Stableford points and 10 shield points. After 7 rounds in the new season we have had 7 individual winners of the low net. Richard Mau was rather impressive with a handy 79 low gross with his 4 clubs. His other clubs are being listed on EBay as you obviously don’t need them if you can club a 79 with 4 clubs. We had 3 Italians and one of American Italian heritage all score 36 Stableford points. This could be a pretty handy 4 ball in the upcoming World Cup Event. Low putts went to David Baglivo, Jens Roestel took the first Sandy (get a free entry to TeeSet next game), first birdie went to Mr. Mau
Next week we are at the lovely Bumi Damai course in BSD are course not to be missed and the food is pretty good also. Make sure you sign up on MyGolf2U app ASAP. This helps organise flights. The earlier you sign up the more likely you will be in one of the earlier flights. Tee time is 12.45 so you can have a relaxing brunch before the game. Last light is 6.30 so plenty of time to get around. Once again keep an eye on your speed of play.
Upcoming events after BSD game is the Kojo monthly medal at Cengkareng. At this game we will be introducing the meat tray raffle a great opportunity to win a meat tray to the value of a Rp1.000.000 Buy a few raffle tickets to help support the yearly events we host at TeeSet. We have the Valentine Scramble on the second weekend in February. This is a two person Scramble if you have a golfing partner of the opposite sex please play with them or try and find one (not rent) or you can play as a same sex couple as this is the 21st Century. Great Prizes and other activities on this day which will be played at Pondok Cabe.

Dean gets the Tin Grin this week. Well done and moves into the lead in the Shield.

Richard takes the low gross and first birdie. Clubs for sale?

Dave with low putts on the day takes a step closer to retirement with his big winnings.

Ute & Sina new members. A big welcome from us at TeeSet.

Looking pretty on the 10th

Tom nails one down the middle with his trusty 3 wood
Rumoured to be the oldest golf course in Jakarta it is also rumoured to have the oldest bath towels in Jakarta but that is under contention with several other golf clubs in Jakarta. Maybe we should run a poll on which golf club is getting the best use out of the towels and thus proving itself the most environmentally friendly golf club?
Anyway I digress back to the game that was. Sunday morning in Jakarta, TeeSetters awoke to a glorious day and a drive time of just 24 minutes from Kemang to JGC. Now Mr Google needs to know where the clubhouse at JGC is as he put a few of us into an earlier U-turn which meant a bit of extra driving. Point being on a Sunday morning you can be at JGC in under 30 minutes. Most golfers had arrived and were having a coffee and a chat, flights had been organised the previous day. A bit of advice here, if you wish to play with certain players make sure they are aware and Adhe is aware and the earlier you register the earlier your tee time will be.
We head to the tee boxes at 11.30 and were soon away. A lovely drive off the first tee box by returning TeeSetter, Michael Taylor, landed in the back of a truck heading to Surabaya. Slicing and hooking is not the done thing at JGC and hitting the ball straight brings rewards with the scorecard. The greens, whilst a bit quick, have fairly easy reads. Mr Mau proved that with just 23 taps of the flat stick for the day. The flights off tee box 1 whizzed around in about 3 hours 30 minutes and those off tee box 10 were a bit slower back in about 4 hours.
The group I was in were slowly worn down by the trees on either side of the fairways and the march to the 18th was a bit brutal for some of us with tricky shots out of the trees becoming more frequent as we lost rhythm (Ii never had any). On returning to the club house and getting stuck into the free 500 ml can of icy cold Anker the discussion of how this course presents a challenge commence,d and all seemed keen to get back and give it another go. Great price, close to town, and really cold beer makes for a great day of golf. A few golfers had to leave straight after the game. A prize of a free beer at next Sunday’s game to the first person, who didn’t play on Sunday, to guess who received the most free beer coupons. First correct answer in the TeeSetters Whatsapp Chat wins.

Rosita and Eli take advantage of the carts on one of Jakarta’s flattest courses.

New member Amit. Amit had a pretty good round at JGC and enjoyed the food as much as the golf by the looks of that plate. Hope to see you again soon.

New member Aryan adding a bit of youth to the gray haired warriors of TeeSet. Aryan also had a pretty useful score and if we could see him become regular he could be pretty useful in Sam Weston’s TeeSet Match Play Team.

Bruno and Vincent were the lucky winners of a 6-pack each of Anker, the nectar of the gods. They generously shared their winnings with the other TeeSetters. Thanks boys.

First birdie went to Michael Seabrook on the 7th. Miracles do happen. First Sandy to Roger Finnie on the 1st he gets a free ride next week at Pondok Cabe as was absent due to prior commitments.

Richard Mau takes low gross, low putts and the smile of the day. Well done!

Slamming Sami Kekonen takes the tin this week with the best Stableford. And maybe takes the lead in the Quarterly shield?
Next week we venture to Pondok Cabe which is in excellent condition but the greens are hard and fast so make sure you bring some control in the 4 clubs you choose. Some people may feel that the 4 club concept is a bit difficult for them so if you are feeling not up to the challenge come along and have a regular game of golf we still love ya. Sign up via MyGolf2U as stated earlier, the earlier you sign the better the tee time. See you on Sunday.
Cheers
Michael Seabrook
Nine intrepid golfers braved hangovers and overcast skies to venture out to Gading Raya. Early morning golfers were being drench by frequent squalls of rain coming from the South. Other TeeSet golfers were being drenched by Bill’s Bloody Mary’s at Richard’s JS Luwansa. Tee off time was delayed by 15 minutes due to rain. A bit of drizzle then it stopped and a few holes later sunshine and the day stayed fine. What wasn’t fine was the President’s golf having consumed far to much confetti that morning he was spraying shots everywhere giving the other hackers a big opportunity.
Good golf from Michael Mueller sore him take the Tin and low putts cash prize. Vijay picked up the low Gross but needs to return to pick up his cash. Good rounds from Rosie, Dan and Dean saw them move up the Quarterly Shield table and Dean’s sandy won him some folding stuff. Thanks to Arne for providing after golf beers.
Next week we have our game at Jakarta Golf Club a lovely course that provides a few challenges with friendly greens. Also we have a lovely gift from the club in the form of a 500ml can of lovely Anker gratis on completion of the round. This is a walking course but buggies will be available unless the course is extremely wet. Book your buggy pre game. 11.30 tee off time
The following week is the 4 club challenge at Pondok Cabe a game that is a lot of fun. Always good to see players putting with drivers. We have in February the two person Valentine Scramble also at Pondok Cabe. Start thinking about your pairings as I start thinking about the rules for the 4 balls that should be playing as 2 balls.
In April, we have the Annual Easter Bandung Bash hosted at Giri Gahana and organised by Geoff Thwaites. Having attend a few I can voucher for the quality of both the course and the weekend and a great way to see what golf offers beyond Jabobeka, for further information check out our website http://www.bandungbash.com .
Finally the TeeSet Match Play is about to get underway so please register ASAP entry fee Rp100,000 all players guaranteed a minimum 2 match play games. You can enter your name with Ibu Adhe at this weeks game at Jakarta Golf Club. See you on Sunday
Cheers
Michael Seabrook
A small group of dedicated golfers turned out for the game on Xmas Eve. Just four flights of dedicated TeeSetters took on the challenges of a well prepared Pondok Cabe course. The weather looked threatening with rain following us all the way to the course. By the time I had paid the green fees and slipped on my golf boots the rain had stopped.
We played off holes 1 and 10 and it was a quick round with a brief shower before the sun made an appearance and I got sunburnt. Back to the club house and the Xmas goodies were awaiting the golfers. These consisted of a fine bottle of Japanese Gin and a lovely bottle of Tequila. The President provided the mixers. There were a few golfers who wondered how they got home the next day.
On to the winners Best Stableford was Simone Toniolo. BestGross Gaurav Shirke
!st Birdie hole 10, and low putts JP Seveke ; First sandy Michael Seabrook hole 17
Thanks again to Adhe for organising the day and the scoring and getting my drinksbag to me again. Thanks to Pondok Cabe for a well hosted event. Thanks for the players for making it a great day the company was fantastic, helped by the booze.
Next week’s game is on New Year’s Day. A day when the iron men and women make their appearance and shake off the hangover and get into playing golf. There are points to be won for the quarterly shield. This weeks game will be at Gading Raya with a hangover friendly tee off time of 12.30.
See you there.
Mr President
This week’s game is at the lovely Pondok Cabe, with recently renovated club house (they painted it). Great Xmas price of Rp650k walking or Rp800K shared cart. Please let Adhe know if you want a cart by Friday. Tee off at 11.30
TeeSet will be putting on a bottle of flash Japanese Gin and some smooth Mexican Tequila at the 19th, bring a driver not just for the golf bag.
Last Sunday’s game had an excellent turnout with 35 golfers taking on the fairways and greens of Gading Raya. Mikko Heinonen taking the tinware this week with an impressive 43 Stableford points. Andrew Deane took the low gross with a well executed 77. The 3 Amigos of the flat stick were Michael Mueller, JP Seveke & Adrian Brink. Good heckling and a good birdie from Diarmuid Flanagan. Most golfers stayed and enjoyed a few beers after the round. A big thanks to Adhe for organisation and scoring.
Remember to book this week’s game via MyGolf2U and get on down and stake your claim on the prestigious TeeSet Quarterly Shield. See you Saturday at Pondok Cabe for a great day out.
A few weary heads arrived after watching late games of the World Cup. The wind was blowing at speeds seldom seen in Jakarta. This could play havoc amongst TeeSet golfers who rarely see more than a light breeze. Numbers were large for the last Kojo Monthly Medal for 2022. Also up for grabs were shield points. The TeeSet group were divided off tee boxes ona and two. The President started off in excellent form with oohs of amazement from fellow TeeSetters assembled at tee box 10. It didn’t last. Some good rounds were posted in the gusty conditions and it was good to see most TeeSetters hanging around for the social side of after golf beers and margaritas .
Unfortunately we have an overloaded blog space and while management cleans it up we cannot upload photos.
Monthly Medal Winner: Giacomo Broli
Low Gross : Sam Westen
Also at the end of 3 rounds of the shield we have Claudio and Shinta sitting atop the table with Mark Johnson and Sam Westen both making big moves at Cengkareng.
We are looking forward to seeing you at Gading Raya this Sunday at 1 pm makes sure your register via MyGolf2U ASAP to avoid disappointment. Also remember it is important to maintain a good speed of play on the golf course to ensure we all get to enjoy the round.
Sam Westen is this year’s organiser of the TeeSet Match Play so if you want a chance to win one of golf’s most sought after Trophies speak to Sam about getting on the list. Sam will also be looking to raise a team of 16 sturdy golfers to take TeeSet back to the top of the table in the Jakarta Inter-League comp. If you have what it takes speak to Sam.
