We have a semi-shotgun start at Gading Raya this Sunday at 1pm. The late start will enable golfers to warm up at the excellent driving facilities. I like to hook a few balls from the practise area over onto the 1st fairway to cause a bit of confusion for players pushing it right. Don’t be worried about the latish start sunset is not until 6.10 and last light is at 6.30. Enjoy a leisurely late brunch and see you at the Gading Raya Clubhouse where we enter round 4 in the battle for the TeeSet Quarterly Shield. Please register on MyGolf2U ASAP so we can arrange flights and Tee times.
Sad to inform that Mike Riley passed away early last week in Melbourne after nearly a two year battle with cancer. Mike was a Tee Set member since 2015 after returning to Jakarta from Aberdeen in 2014 to take up a project manager’s role with Technip Indonesia. Never a low handicapper, Mike enjoyed his golf more than most and bought a bit of comic relief to the group with his sharp wit and sense of humor. He also has the Teeset honour of being the club Champion in 2019. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family. Condolences to Reni. Thanks for the warm memories Ric. Mike was a friend to many and will be missed by many, R.I.P
Friends of Mike’s will gather this evening at New Star on Kemang Raya to remember Mike and a life well lived, starting from 5.30. We hope to see you there.
The new season was off to a fly with 43 golfers turning out to contest the monthly medal. The weather was overcast which suited the golfers backing up from a large night at the St Andrew’s Ball. A bit of late flight shuffling and it was off to the tee boxes 1 & 10. Golfers on Tee box 10 had a wait as three flights were in front of our start time pushing it back to nearly 12.30. Those off No 1 had a quick round with most back in the club house before the first flight off 10 made it home.
The round moved at a good pace once we were started. Speed of play is very important when you are part of a group of 40+ players, we all want to finish in daylight. Speaking of daylight there was daylight between the Low net winner, Sri, and 2nd place as there was daylight between low gross winner, Claudio, and 2nd place. Congratulations for a couple of fine rounds.
We have 2 new competitions this year with the league quarterly shield, a low net comp. The more you play the more chance you have of winning. The Big Bird award for most Albatrosses, Eagles and Birdies scored over the coming year. Make sure you note this number of feathers on your scorecard when returning it to Adhe. The Shield Leaders will be posted on WhatsApp later this week.
Special visitor this week was Richard Mau’s nephew, John, a young professional who mastered the Cengkerang course with a gross 65 and an eagle. See you next weekend for more challenges and fun on the lovely Imperial Course ( the President’s least favorite course lol).
There were some issues with MyGolf2U last weekend so always have a backup manual scorecard to avoid disappointment. Hopefully these glitches will be rare going forward. MyGolf2U is the clubs preferred scoring system for ease of use and speed and keeping handicaps up-to-date. So please download the app and use it.
Finally, I would like to welcome Sam Westen on the the committee as VP and in charge of the Tee Set Match Play and various other mundane tasks and we have Tom Grace returning to lead the Tee Set Match Play Team to victory.
The first 3 players to beat the President this year.
NEXT WEEK: IMPERIAL, REGULAR, STABLEFORD, WHITE and RED Tees. (Blue if you prefer) Register ASAP via MyGolf2U
Tee Set wish to thank D.O.G.S for allowing us to join with them so that Tee Set could play on a Saturday. The cooperation was outstanding. D.O.G.S arranged the pairing, flights and scoring for both eventsunder the guidance of Rod. Many D.O.G.S joined Tee Set and vv.
Players were welcomed by traditional cultural music and welcome dance before and after the game.
The day was a fantastic success with great weather, easy joint checkin / registration, pre game light lunch, briefing, perfect course condition and drinks. Hot-HED once again provided hotdogs at halfway house.
After the game cards were collected and tabulated by Rod and Adhe as joint effort. Thank you both.
D.O.G.S made their presentations in the main hall. Kevin skilfully guiding the process.
Tee Set Started the AGM with introduction by Craig Ewers, followed by the President Geoff Thwaites who delivered the Financial and Presidents Reports.
Election for President was held by online voting and paper ballot. Counting was conducted by Adeh and given to Geoff for announcement of the new President. I want to thank the candidates and voters for your participation.

Today was the end of year Barbecue for Jakarta Inter League with Tee Set ranking 2nd on the ladder for the year. The winners were JAWS. Congratulations.
The event was washed out in the JIL scramble and only 9 holes were counted for the prizes. Tee Set didn’t feature but we all had a great day.
The attached photo is the results sheet.
Thanks to Jack Calcote and Roger Finnie for their great work in making JIL the success it has been this year 2022.

OTHER GOOD STUFF:
HIGHLIGHTS (The Thomas Report)
A lot of A+ takeaways from Sunday’s round at Modern not the least of which was perfect golfing weather. Add to that an enthusiastic multinational turnout, good timing, reasonable pace-of- play .. you get the picture. Richard Mau spent the last few days whipping his game back into shape with a progression any of us would be proud to emulate .. 89, 85, 80, and 76 on Sunday. Seabrook (M) played well but could’ve been better save for an errant water ball and an out-of-character duck hook which elicited an anguished cry heard three fairways over.

HIGHLIGHTS ( The THOMAS Report)
Our merry band of Halloweeners loved Cengkareng which was in tip-top shape once again. Except for the overgrown ladies’ #16 tee box this tract is in pristine trim. Kudos to Kurt and krew. Hitoshi, whose wife also plays golf, tamed the course with an impressive low gross while Jane Finnie, whose husband also plays golf, had an even more impressive round with a handicap-busting net 62. A message was sent to MBS about the possibility of LIV for Ladies. There were numerous sightings of what appeared to be a ghostly presence gliding amongst the trees and fairways. Turned out to be Jens and Shinta giving their hoverboard a workout.
PRESEDENTIAL ELECTION:
Progress Report: Three nominations have been received and each nominee has been sent a consent form to be a candidate. Once we have the consent forms we will create a ballot to be sent to eligible voters as per Articles 3.7, 4.5 and 4.9 of the Constitution.
PRESIDENTS REPORT:
The past few weeks see very limited attendance due mostly to courses having last minute changes. This has caused conflict in scheduling whit D.O.G.S moving into the Sunday space and a as a result many TS players being members of both groups play the D.O.G.S event.
The low attendance has reduced our income and combined with our generous prizes, our cash balance is heading “South”
CHAMPIONSHIP and FORMAL AWARDS NIGHT:
Early this week we announced that we would be joining D.O.G.S at Riverside for our mutual benefit and taking into account low numbers for both groups.
