Jakarta Interleague Riverside

The Interleague team went out to do battle with the rampant Cloggies, current leaders of the JIL. At the end of the day the glorious TeeSet team fell short of bringing home the chocolates. Two of our pairs had close games but could not prevail. It was a big day for the Thwaites as Sam had a challenging win in his singles and Geoff helped Peter achieve victory in the pairs. Well done. We are picking up points and have not been comprehensively rolled as other teams have but the elusive wins are just slipping out of our grasp. We have next month off and Team Captain Dean has an intensive training regime planned. I attend last Wednesday at Bull and Vine (Sponsor) along with Viboon. the training involved drink beer, play pool, drink beer, play pool then repeat. We should be ready to go come September, well at least the hangover will be a distant memory.

A lot happening in the TeeSet world over the upcoming weeks so pay attention to the info involved and get involved in the great days the committee and others have helped put together.

First the winners

Shinta with 41 Stableford points. Shinta is in sparkling form presently.

Arne in the money for low gross 83 and a Sandy par well done.

Vive Le TeeSet

Palme D’Or R. Finnie

The hallowed fairways of Cengkareng were awash with red, white and blue as 49 tee setters came out to join our new Fete Tricolore event in celebration of Bastille Day which falls on 14th July each year. Offering players the opportunity to choose their tee boxes… the red, white and blues ones of course… and strategise their way around the course in the true spirit of Napoleon. Napoleon being well represented in the physical form of Craig Edwards.

Well how did these strategies pan out? Not so well in the experiences of the author as he clubbed his way to a new record of using bad words as shots went astray. The highlight being on the 5th where playing off the reds his second shot land right of the green and the uphill shot onto the green, all of 5 metres, failed to summit the hill and rolled back to his feet. People on the plane on the nearby runway heard his colourful outburst. But it was quite an experience playing from other red tees and fully understanding why the ladies struggle for par when you double bogey.

Not everyone had such a traumatised round as the author with Claudio knocking in an eagle on hole No. 1. Fernando had a sub 80 round with a deft 37 putts. Roger chipped in for 2 birdies and Shinta took it to the men by joining the Red, White & Blue challenge. Whilst Sari fresh from golfing in Scotland put in an impressive round playing from the traditional Red Tees.

The conditions for golf were perfect with the skies being overcast taking the sting out of the midday heat, we even had a few spots of rain. Not enough to get the wet weather gear out or even an umbrella. The pace of play on the first 9 was painfully slow but things got moving once the last of the morning round golfers vacated the course. Unfortunately for some their rounds finished in the dark, but friendship and ale awaited them back in the clubhouse.

A day like this just doesn’t occur it takes significant planning and big thanks goes out to the two chief planners Roger, on concept, Craig, on smallgoods. In minor support roles were Adhe, Chairman Bill & Michael.

Prizes/Winners

1. Christian Dior for Best Dressed goes to Rosie

 2. La Dunkerque = 1st Sandy Par & Napoleon Award = Best Points Men and the winner is Ed with 45 points, 15 of the Blue 15 of the white and 15 off the red. I hope you made the morning flight to Singapore

Sari takes the Josephine Award with 38 points well done.

Sri takes 2nd ladies 37 points.Well done. Oh but for the penalty on the 17th.

Steve takes 2nd on countback with 40 points.

3rd to Craig and 2nd in the countback also on 40 points

Edith Piaf je ne regrete rien. Pascal has no regrets and maybe no recollection come Monday morning. Big score award.

Louis Braille (couldn’t read the greens) Award goes to Michel with 43 putts

La Tour Eiffel Award to Hitoshi with 75 off the stick

La Guillotine. Award goes to Trancede with 10 stroke improvement on the back 9

Well that was a lot of winners or whatever they all got a bottle of wine which led to a long evening at Cengkareng as the TeeSetters shared their booty and golf stories were re-counted long into the night with French disco-punk serenading. The wobbly boots were firmly on come Monday morning.

Remember to be here for the next Bastille Day TeeSet Bash

Gading Raya Sunday 6th of July

What rhymes with four? Pour! And it did, it rained cats and dogs. We had completed 8 holes when the heavens opened. Luckily we had just pulled up at the 10th so the clubhouse was close by. Back we went and hopped into the beers. After a few bottles we went back out again and hit one shot then went back to the beers.

The odd angry shot on the 10th resulted in a glorious moment as I pocketed Axel’s Pro V1 (see above) as he dashed back to the clubhouse. It was about 10 metres behind my drive but not bad for the old bloke in trying conditions. The good news to come out of this, is he is not getting it back. And so ends TeeSet’s adventure last Sunday when we were finally washed out. The first time in nearly 2 years.

Let’s not linger longer on last week’s round. Let’s push on to discover what wonderful events the committee have installed for us over the next few weeks.

New on the calendar, TeeSet this weekend celebrates all things French. We play the colours of the flag. Women can elect to join the tri-colour round or play the day from the reds

Le jour de gloire est arrivé. Aux baton de golf, citoyens, formez quatre balles golf. Golf on Golf on.

Just about full sign up on MyGolf2U. French Cab Sav prizes for the the victors, eh Frenchy.

Jambalaya Scramble Jakarta Golf Club 3rd Of August

An exciting scramble which is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Great prizes for victors and glorious moments for those that get the ever elusive woody par. Put it in your calendar.

TeeSet Whoosh Challenge Parahyangan Golf Club 10th of August

We take the whoosh for a quick round at what many consider to be Indonesia’s finest golf course. A booking list will start soon. Make your plans to join this great day now.

17th of August Hari Merdeka Jagorawi GCC

Take on the challenging Z nine course not once but twice in the same round. In honour of Independence DAy we will play a round off the Reds and a round off the whites. Merdeka!

See ya Sunday.

The Kojo Monthly Medal Cengkareng 29th of June

An overcast day greeted golfers at Cengkareng for the Monthly Medal. Overcast is good, a bit of drizzle never killed anyone. Lightning on the other hand has more success, and has scored a direct hit on this course many years ago. But enough of sizzled golfers onto the day.

Carts were allowed. Lift, clean and place forgave bad lies. It was the Glorious Tee Set Kojo Monthly Medal but there were a number of important side competitions.

But let’s start with the main event – more competitive than Topuria Oliveira – came down to a split decision – both on 41 points Trisna and Jaakko. Victory and a gold medal to Jaakko on a countback!! Cash to Trisna under the “Share the Love” rule invoked as required.

Lots of sharing as Jaakko and “welcome back” weekend warrior Mark Blake both hit 74 – but Mark got the cash.

Nanin cracked a 182m monster to win ladies longest drive. The four ladies also won best celebrations on every hole!!!!

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of iconic Le Coq Sportif in Indonesia, our own Mighty Frenchman smashed longest drive, from his other driver!

Al was miserly in taking low putts with 30 putts and taking the honours from Dean in their Pocksia matchplay.

Alessandro was nearest to the pin and furthest from the fairway many times but like all good Italian sons always found his way home – 39 points and a matchplay win over Craig Tinggi…. guaranteeing the Cup will change hands in November. Who wants it most?

Speaking of which our brother from the City of Brotherly Love was sharing some of it with Brother Arne as both won First Sandy Par.

Bobby and Dean (singing their 1958 hit I’m Ready) shared first birdie and saving the best til last, we had an Eagle. Nicolas and Ale each had chances but it was Albert pitching in from 100m to take the honours and cash bonus!!!

MR. EAGLE

Two more matchplay results – former champ Patrick took out Pras and Randy was strong against Master Chef Mr Mee.

Another glorious afternoon of Tee Set, drifting into evening just before the end of play.

PS: For those familiar with the cult that is The Dots, we had a new record high (40) and record low (8) set today. Violins could be heard from far away lands

This Sunday at Gading Raya

Another course that promises a rain free round. Also know for well manicured greens and inattentive restaurant staff. Sign up on MyGolf2U and be part of the TeeSet fun weekend. Lucky draw this Sunday. You gotta be there to win it. Get the MyGolf2U app from your phone’s app store and never miss another TeeSet round

What’s coming up?

Plenty, is the answer. Clear your diaries and pencil in TeeSet Sunday for the next 2 months first up

13tof July we celebrate the French

The 3rd of August we get down and boogie our way around Jakarta Golf Club, not bogey.

Later in August on the 10th we Whoosh to Parayhangan. A hit and Whoosh visit.

17th of August Jens has organised a special Independence Day celebration at Jagorawi

The there is always the non-TeeSet activities that we encourage you to get involved with

All invited but if you have a connection to the mining industry this is a must. Text me if you wanna join my 4 ball. Looking for friends.

Glorious TeeSet dominate at Pondok Cabe JIL

The TeeSet JIL squad hit the fairways of Pondok Cabe full of confidence having had many successful campaigns here over the previous years. A few last minute reshuffles and the squad was ready to go. Up against the current title holders this was not going to be a walk in the park and it went down to the wire in the 3 pairs games, but we emerged victorious in all of them. A ding dong battle ensued between the TeeSet duo of Douglas and Michael as they came over the top of Stephanie and Tom. Douglas was beyond solid over the last 4 holes as we took back the lead and closed the game out. That also ends an undefeated partnership of that TeeSet pairing as Douglas moves onto greener fairways soon. Jeff and Andy had a thrilling last hole win as did Captain Dean and John over their JAWS opponents. Then the singles saw our man Daniel fight back from 3 holes down to square his game and Tony fought hard but Simon was too good on the day. This saw TeeSet climbing up the table at the end of the day.

With 4 rounds to go we are not too far off the leading groups and with a solid training workout planned and some physiological amendments planned we hope to go the whole way this year. We will certainly be rattling the ladder.

We had quite a few on JIL players on the course also great to see golfers taking advantage of playing alongside the Matchplay comp. We had John back for his second round with TeeSet and once again he was all smiles on completion of the day. I heard he kicked on to B&V with the Skipper, Douglas and Dave from DOGS. Lets get to the prizes

Hitoshi with 36 Stableford points was the day’s champ backing up after a big Saturday night.

Carter clubbed a gross 75. Well done buddy.

24 putts saw a happy Claudio take home the money.

Glorious Gunung Geulis

6 flights of TeeSetters headed out last Sunday. Numbers may have been low due to the amount of rain the DOGS have been experiencing on their Saturday Hillside rounds. The mountain men and women who showed up on Sunday are all experienced Mountain golfers and they know it never rains on TeeSet Sunday.

With an earlier than usual start a couple of golfers barely made it in time and a couple were a bit late. Always read the tee times in the MyGolf2U app to avoid confusion. Next time you will be mentioned in a highlighted TeeSet scribe report. We Teed off on the crack of 11.30 and the game was on. The 3 ball in front soon disappeared as did the four ball behind us. This made for blissful golfing conditions as shots were unhurried and missing balls were looked for. Jens was hosting Jess’s buddy from the States John in his cart and both myself and Jess had separate carts due to gravitational forces that are present at Gunung Geulis.

The greens had this writer’s mind completely fried on the first 9 and the second 9 was not much better. Jens was banging them in from all over the green and John steadily improved. The TeeSet average for the day was on the northside of 36 putts. Richard and Mike handled the conditions on the green as did Sepand. Chairman Bill on the other hand was trying to break records for 3 putting. Luckily Nico is in Singapore these days.

A lot of ball sellers around the course, which is a good idea for the golfers amongs us that like to hit it long into the trees. Of economic relevance, as we live through the TACO Tariff Wars, is that balls get cheaper the later the day becomes. The course and greens were in great order, better than many courses further north that is for sure. Hats off to GG management as once again they put together a well organised day with nary a hitch. Nary is a word seldom used these days.

Let’s get to the winners, as I have a long 3 days of golf kicking off in a few hours.

Stan takes the Stableford prize with 37 points. Well done that 30 minutes of extra sleep must have helped.

Bags with an 87 takes low gross

Sepand takes the bird money on the first and would have had the above two prizes but for slow presentation of scorecard and too long in the showers.

Rosie takes Sandy Par on the 17th

Richard with 30 taps of the flat stick had less struggles than most on the greens.

Jarkarta Interleague Pondok Cabe Sunday 22nd

Glorious TeeSet head to PC to do battle and will move up the table with the decisive victory we have planned for this Sunday. JIL plays alongside TeeSet this Sunday so come on down and join the day. Cheapest beers on the course, greens are amongst the best kept in Jakarta and it is pretty close to where we live and well serviced by Toll Roads. Cheers and happy golfing

World Cup TeeSet Style

33 teams glorious weather sponsored beers and oink oink snagers all go a long way to make it a glorious TeeSet Sunday. The teams started arriving well ahead of schedule and there was no way that we would be held up from our scheduled tee off time. Albert was only marginally late, but still on time.

Riverside had their team humming along nicely all bags were correctly allocated and caddies assigned. Meanwhile back in the club house the various teams were strutting the team colours and rivalries were being forged, a few golfers were already on the putting juice but most held off until they reached the San Miguel sponsored beer on the 10th. Little Craig provided the beers up until that point.

No early start but a start on time is a good start. Players were treated to a sausage sandwich at hole 1. Thanks Jess and assistant Phil for the big effort. Let the golf begin.

With 33 teams and 5 hours and 20 minutes of daylight we were going to be chasing the Sun. Our group found great speed of play on the front 9. The back nine was definitely slower, maybe due to the traffic jam at the San Miguel Beer Stop on the 10th, where a range of beers were available. We loaded up and golfed on, then came the 11th where several beers were pushed back as we waited for the jam to clear which led to a few dodgy looking tee shots. But it did give the writer the chance to see Dougie sink a 60 foot putt on the 10th, the Kilted Warriors were beside themselves, balls were flying everywhere.

Back at the clubhouse chief scorer and event maestro Mr Finnie with Adhe and Craig and ably assisted by a bottle of Malbec were entering the 33 teams last 6 holes. The rest of the mob were enjoying San Miguel Beers. The mysterious calculations that go into ascertaining the winner are known by very few and Nobel Prize winning mathematicians are yet to break the code. the highest team Handicap spotted was 87 strokes. It didn’t help them either.

Lets get to the winners

Saffas take the Arnold Palmer memorial photo with a net 189. Well done. A bigger score than the national cricket team in the current Test.

Low Gross Nations United with 235 off the stick. Well done lads.

Team with most room for improvement BH4. A nearest the pin was their big win.

All The Winners on the Glorious Spreadsheet below

Thanks everyone for making it a great day a big thanks to our sponsors San Miguel

TeeSet Visits Gading Raya

Glorious weather greeted the 40 Teesetters who made the trip to BSD. The rainy season has been hanging around for a little bit longer than usual but Gading is a bit outside the mid afternoon rain band, so we golfed happily on. Happy was the word as we had 19 of the 40 golfers getting 36 or better Stableford points. We had Fernando burning up the course at 2 under after 12 holes and we had Craig Kecil quietly weeping on his caddy’s shoulder as Fernando pulled his pants down in match play. Lesson to be learned here don’t play match play against someone who is a member at the course. As Craig fairly said Fernando was playing out of his skin. Fernando has opened a house for distressed golfers. It is known as Big Daddy’s House. So if your coming of the course with you head hanging low and someone asks who’s your daddy its Fernando. (bastard)

We had a bunch of new members which is always great to see as it brings new enthusiasm to the club. Make sure you give these new members a warm welcome.

Welcome Nesha

Great first round to new member Sunny

Welcome to the TeeSet crew Stu

Jim making sure he gets in the frame for the new member shot

It’s been a while between drinks but Geary is back playing TeeSet again.

Now Mister Mister was not on the course last Sunday due to business commitments in KL, which included missing a flight home. So I cannot really comment on the state of play but what I do know is that TeeSet mastered Gading Raya and besides the usual getting stuck behind a flight from nowhere as you move to your back nine the pace was good and the greens rolled true. The first time in a while when golfers have been complimentary of the greens. We await the clubs to put some effort into getting greens back to what they once were.

Let’s get to the winners

Roberto had an enjoyable stroll around Gading picking up 47 Stableford points along the way. Well done champ.

Axel played out of his skin with a gross 67( according to the on course reporter). Definitely the score of the 2025 season.

Richard picks up first birdie #2 and Sandy #6

Bill takes low putts with 26 and best MC

Gading Raya a golf friendly venue and within easy striking distance of Jakarta. TeeSet will be back.

World Cup of Golf 8th of June Riverside

We have a full house of 33 teams. A record turn out. This annual competition grows in popularity every year. I think we may have just hit capacity.

With such a large number of players it is important that you arrive at the course in plenty of time. We need to get your bags onto the correct buggy and allocate a caddy. Arriving 10 minutes before tee time makes this impossible, so tomorrow be there by 11.30 to ensure a smooth start.

Being there at 11.30 also enables you and your team to promenade around the clubhouse in your Team Outfit increasing your chances of best dressed. Also it gives you time to drive to your designated starting hole. DON’T BE LATE.

There will be beer and sausages on the course. Don’t be greedy, other golfers need feeding and watering also. Thanks to San Miguel for the beer sponsorship and Mr Briggs’ Sausages. (if you like the sausages the butcher will be on course to take orders)

It will be a shotgun start off 18 holes. With a large amount of players make sure you are ready to go when the siren sounds at 12.30. That means ball on tee not last minute photos and glove searches.

Scoring, the team captain will do the scoring for everyone. All scores to be entered. The best 3 scores on each hole count towards victory. After 6 holes take a photo of the scores and Whatsapp to Adhe, here number will be on the team scorecard. Repeat this exercise after 12 holes are completed. On completion of round return the scorecard to Adhe before you shower.

Speed of play is paramount tomorrow. We are all playing to win but you need to realise there is a big group of golfers and one slow group will ruin it for everyone. If you cannot see the group in front of you you are playing too slow, pick up the pace. If you have hit a ball into the bushes 2 minutes is long enough to search for it. You get 5 minutes if duck diving in a pond. KEEP MOVING, BE READY TO PLAY YOUR SHOT OR PUTT AS SOON AS IT IS YOUR TURN.

Prize giving and skill prizes straight after the round then Bull & Vine have a special offer to continue back at the pub. Monday is a holiday for many make the most of it and socialise with your TeeSet buddies

REMEMBER DON’T TAKE ALL DAY PLAYING A SHOT.

See you at the course

Cengkareng Kojo Monthly Medal

A good crowd of TeeSetters gathered to contest the Kojo Monthly Medal. Cengkareng being close to the ocean had not been inundated as had many of the Bogor region courses due to the unseasonable rains in May.

11 flights headed out and there was more at stake than just the monthly medal there were various TeeSet Match Play second rounds underway. There was also opportunities to win skill prizes. Playing from the whites has seen some low scores being carded by both low and high handicap players. The word in the club house is that they are enjoying it. The ladies have lost a lot of their advantage they once held at Cengkareng but swearing has generally decreased.

On Saturday Shinta had a Match Play win over Michael 4/3. Whereas on TeeSet Sunday, where you should be playing your Match plays, Craig P went 6/4 over Emiliano, Hitoshi went 6/4 over Carter, Craib B beat George 5/4. Well done to the match play winners who now move to the next stage. Those yet to play you have to the end of July to get your games completed so get cracking.

On the course some good scores were being put together. Richard felt like he was a good chance to win the low gross but a course mastering round by Claudio saw him pick up the low gross winners cheque, with a gross 75

As we can see from the opening picture James is holding the monthly medal after picking up 44 points. A very good round, keeping at bay Craig B who had 41 in a good performance.

Birdies there were a few and unfortunately for the TeeSet finance 4 on the first hole. See photos below too many to name but you should recognise them and if you don’t you should be playing with TeeSet more often.

First round for Megi at TeeSet and he nails a birdie on the first hole. Well done.

Well done Jude

A 229 drive on the 18th was enough to get Arne the funds on the long drive hole

Tri nailed it straight and true with a 200 metre banger. Word is it was from the whites so probably further than most men that day. Well done.

Richard “The accurate One” popped one 205cm from the hole to take the candy for NTP. Well done.

The side hustle for Richard, Bags was in dots form and Paul and I had to pay him……but unfortunately Mau’s putting saw him beat the hell out of all 3 of us and none of us ended up in the black except for the Hawaiian Hustler. Hustle on.

Sari was close by with a 305cm to the pin to win the ladies section of NTP. Well done

Low putts, first sandy and a Match play win explains the grin on Craig’s face. Well done for what must have been an enjoyable trip to Cengkareng.

A Glorious Day at Pondok Cabe

Why has the oil company logo been posted is the question that many TeeSetters are asking themselves as they view this weekly review of the activities of the Glorious TeeSetters. Well the answer is simple Pondok Cabe is owned by them and we need to take this moment to appreciate what they have been doing to PC since the days of the Covid Pandemic. It truly has come along way. They have good sand in most bunkers the tee boxes have all been re-done and the fairways are next on the list it seems. The best thing about the course is the state of the greens absolutely spot on. After having played TeeSet courses over the last 6 weeks or so these are by far the best prepared greens. Some of them are easy reads others leave you open to caddy wisdom as to the speed and break required to get to the hole. There was mention that the price has gone up a bit here but for the effort the club is putting into the course it has deservedly gone up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pertamina#:~:text=It%20was%20created%20in%20August,Ltd.%20and%20Chevron%20Pacific%20Indonesia.

Now on to the day. A small group of players joined a day that presented itself gloriously to the TeeSet golfers. Starting from both 1 and 10 6 flights head out. With Andy and Daniel in a matchplay in the sudden death section. My group was last off and it was with great difficulty that I hit the ball from the tee as a 2.30 am bedtime left me feeling wobbly and in the need of something to stiffen the spine. I was joined by Patrick, Jochen and Axel. The two smokers took to foot whereas the non-smokers needed a car to carry them through the day.

After the tee shot which landed miraculously in the middle of the fairway, the next shot sent that ball somewhere where it was never to be seen again. Great it was going to be one of those days, but with each step I inched closer to sobriety. It was a quiet day on the course and we moved quickly, struggling to keep up with the group in front but outpacing the group behind. This would be one of the quickest rounds for quite some time with TeeSet and itt may have been the quickest ever. Until we hit the 18th, Jochen looking for a ball, me hitting all the trees down the right hand side of the fairway, whilst Patrick and Axel watched amusedly from that preferred lie known as the middle of the fairway. We still managed to get to the green on pace for a record time as the clock ticked towards 4pm. Jochen and Patrick putt out leaving myself and Axel to putt to break this record. Axel first lines up his putt for a sandy par about 3 metres from the hole +/-. A bit down hill but not too much. He strikes, the ball is away. I take this moment to light up a smoke. Jochen walks over to the cart to get a beer and is back in time as the ball completes its second revolution. The storm clouds move close, the afternoon prayer starts and finishes as the ball is now less than a metre from the hole it is on line but is there enough petrol in the tank to get it there? With centimetres to go it breaks slightly to the left and is missing the hole. Then it straightens and with Jochen now on his second can and Patrick asleep on his feet, the ball in its death throes rolls to the right and gently lands in the hole. The length of time it took you to read this is will give you an idea on how fast that ball wasn’t moving. Anyways a sandy par to Axel and a putt that may have given him nearly as much joy as those two aces at Riverside.

Let’s get to the winners

JP found that 36 Stableford points was enough to take home the money. You read my excuse what about you others? Well done JP

Carter gets his weekly pocket money with a low gross 78. Inching higher and inching towards a lower handicap. Well done.

First bird goes to Jens on the 4th hole.

Rosie tamed the greens with 25 putts,

A few of us stayed late for some wine and beers, as axel should have then we would’ve had a sandy par winner.

JIL at Riverside

We take on the Wolves on Sunday. Get along to support the glorious team and enjoy a round of golf. That’s what Sundays are for. Sign uo on the app MyGolf2U
