The TeeSet Championship 2025 Saturday 29th

This weekend is the championship round more of this later let’s go back in time to Jakarta Interleague. The Glorious TeeSet Team finished tied for third place with Sandbaggers who peg us back a point. The winners were the Wolves team narrowly from the Cloggies. Captain Dean called upon 15 players during the season and the team, after a slow start, came rattling through the field for 3rd. This is the best performance by TeeSet for a few seasons now and next year we plan to make the leap to the top of the table. The final round was played at Cengkareng where we halved our match against the DOGS, we needed a clean sweep to take the trophy but the halve secured us 3rd. The day rolled into night as JIL hosted a BBQ buffet and presentations. TeeSet members being amongst the last to leave as always. Sandbaggers probably consumed the most booze. All in all there was great camaraderie at the after event amongst all the teams and the future of JIL looks safe. Glorious TeeSet looks at moving up the ladder next year. Thanks to all who played and the support of our TeeSet members.

The Cup of Medals and the Cup of Low Gross

Once again at Cengkareng 46 TeeSetters played with roughly 20 of them involved in playing for Thwaites’ Trophies. Following the scores from afar via MyGolf2U the battle on the golf course seesawed throughout the day, especially in the low net category. It took a count back I believe before a winner emerged in the form of Roberto who pipped Roger on countback. There were a half a dozen golfers nipping at their heels all day long.

The Low Gross went as expected to Anirudh but he had to work to earn it with the others playing hard for the honour of lifting this new annual award. Well done to all players.

An elated Roberto picks up top prize with 40 Stableford points and The Thwaites Medalist Trophy. A great companion to the Krakatua Trophy won last year.

A big hitting Anirudh played to par with a gross 72 to take the Thwaites Low Gross Annual Champion Trophy.

Divya dominated the rest of the field with a nice 41 Stableford points

The Flock of Seagulls, Patrick, Bill & Andy take the money for the first birdies on the 1st hole.

Sandy par on the 5th wins Ray the money.

Low putts to Richard and Craig both with 29s. Well done fellas

So we had 66 players tuning their game for this coming Saturday’s TeeSet Championship.

TeeSet’s Blustery Bash at Gading Raya Golf Club

36 Golfers, One Windy Day, and a Starter with a Twist

If you were anywhere near Gading Raya Golf Club on our latest outing, you probably heard the sound of laughter, groans, and balls ricocheting off trees. That’s right—TeeSet assembled a mighty 37 golfers for a day that turned out to be as unpredictable as a bunker shot with a putter.

The Weather: Nature’s Own Hazard

The forecast said “fine”, but Mother Nature had other ideas. The wind was less of a gentle breeze and more like an overenthusiastic caddy—blowing hats off heads, sending scorecards flying, and turning perfectly straight drives into accidental doglegs. If you aimed for the fairway, you were rewarded with a trip to the rough. And if you aimed for the rough—well, you probably ended up on the fairway. Even the birds seemed confused, flying sideways in the gusts.

The Great Delay: Starter’s Surprise

Just when our intrepid golfers found their rhythm on the first nine, the day took a turn for the theatrical. The starter, whose love for chaos rivals our own, decided to spice things up by squeezing extra flights into the schedule. Suddenly, the back nine resembled rush hour in Jakarta, with golf carts bumper to bumper and players practising their most creative waiting stances. Rumor has it that some TeeSetters considered setting up a temporary bar at the tee box—just to pass the time.

On the Course: Wind, Wedges, and Wobbly Putts

Golf balls were doing impressions of boomerangs, and even the most seasoned TeeSet golfer seemed determined to explore every inch of the course—sometimes twice. On Hole 12, one player’s drive was last seen heading for the driving range… of the neighbouring club. Chip shots were rebranded as “chip-and-chase” routines, and putts defied physics, rolling uphill, downhill, and occasionally off the green entirely. The wind was so strong that one golfer claimed his slice had straightened out. Miracles do happen, folks.

TeeSet’s Final Thoughts

Despite the wind, the waiting, and the wild shots, everyone left Gading Raya with a smile—and a story to tell. Some say golf is a game of patience and skill. At TeeSet, we believe it’s about laughter, camaraderie, and seeing who can lose the most balls in a single round, me.

Until next time, may your drives be straight and your starters stick to the schedule!

This Sunday Jakarta Interleague Cengkareng

The final round of the Interleague and if the golf gods smile upon the glorious TeeSet Team there is a slim chance of lifting the trophy. We have a full field for the day. Probably due to the free BBQ on offer. Corkage has been paid by the Interleague Authorities so feel free to bring a bottle and share in the day’s tall stories.

Please not tee time and be on time as there is a big field.

Sunday 23rd the Thwaites Cup of Meadlists & Low Gross Cup at Cengkareng

The monthly medallists and low gross players will battle it out for bragging rights. Eveyone is welcome to join and would make a great practise round for the championship the following weekend.

Saturday 29 TeeSet Championship at Cengkareng

This day we will discouver who are the club champions with Men & Women Champions being awarded for the first time this year. We will also discover the TeeSet Matchplay Champion when the epic battle between Tom and Shinta is decided.

TeeSet Jambalaya Scramble

Jambalaya is a savory rice dish that developed in the U.S. state of Louisiana fusing together African, Spanish, and French influences, consisting mainly of meat and/or seafood, and vegetables mixed with rice and spices. West Africans and Spanish people each had versions of jambalaya in their respective countries. And TeeSet has their own version just as exotic but more exciting.

More partner changes in a Jambalaya Scramble than in a 1970s Swingers Party. Well, that’s what one of the older golfers confided in me. 7 flights went out in lovely golfing conditions and the Jambalaya was on. Some early confusion about how to Jambalaya were soon sorted and golfers were enjoying partners who didn’t hit the trees with every shot as it was pass the partner on the left hand side at the end of each hole.

There have been two Jambalayas this season but we have had just one winner Paul. Back to back Jambalayas are a matter of fact, a record that stays intact. Paul’s well played net 65 were closely followed by Albert 65 (pipped on countback) and Anna 67. Emiliano took low gross 72. No trees were hurt during the Jambalaya.

Imperial Monthly Medal

TeeSet Monthly Medal Report

Imperial Golf Club – November Event Update

Event Overview

The TeeSet Monthly Medal, originally scheduled at Cengkareng Golf Club, experienced an unexpected change of venue when Cengkareng failed to honour the booking. The event was successfully relocated to Imperial Golf Club, where a modest but enthusiastic crowd of 24 golfers gathered for what was the final opportunity to qualify for the prestigious Medallists final round—the decisive stage to determine the best among the medallists. Additionally, this was the last qualifying round for low gross players to secure a spot in the upcoming battle of the low gross champions. The list of qualifying players will be announced within the week.

Course Conditions

Imperial Golf Club presented a reasonable playing surface, with its signature Teletubby layout providing a tight and challenging experience. The course featured an abundance of water hazards and bunkers, requiring precision and strategy from all participants. Notably, the author of this report recorded the most out-of-bounds (OB) strokes on a single hole—a humbling reminder of the course’s demands.

Highlights and Winners

  • Stableford Winner: Hitoshi, with a stellar 38 points. His round began with a birdie and, despite ending with a double bogey, was marked by consistent and fine golf.
  • Low Gross: Roger, scoring 83, impressed with accurate iron play throughout.
  • Nearest the Pin: Paul (2.56m) and Shinta (4.52m) showcased their skillful approach shots.
  • Long Drive & Low Putts: Richard excelled in both categories but had to leave early.
  • First Birdie: Jason was the first to notch a birdie on the day ( a bit after Hitoshi).

Weather and Delays

The round was interrupted by a rainstorm and lightning warning, resulting in a delay of 1 hour and 15 minutes. During the pause, there was some talk of tequila shots courtesy of Bags, but the group eventually settled for beers—enjoyed by Bags, Thomas, and the author, whilst Richard attempted to stir up the bees.

Personal Notes and Atmosphere

For some, what began as a personal quest for the Medal did not end as hoped, yet the camaraderie and spirit of the day ensured it remained enjoyable. Frank Pan made a memorable impression by eating upon arrival and ordering another substantial meal after completing his round. The group was also pleased to welcome JP back from his European travels.

Apologies and Looking Ahead

Please accept apologies for the delayed report—recent flood-related business contributed to the lateness. Looking forward, the next major event is The Championship, scheduled for Saturday, 29th of November. Interested players should notify Adhe to confirm participation.

We are also needing players for the final Interleague Matchplay Round

TeeSet Golf Outing at Kedaton Golf Course

Event Report: 19th October – Kedaton, Tangerang

Event Overview

On the 19th of October, TeeSet organized a memorable outing at Kedaton Golf Course, located in far Tangerang. Despite the distance, 24 enthusiastic golfers made the journey to experience what is often described as the flattest course in Jakarta.

The Challenge of Kedaton

At first glance, Kedaton Golf Course appears unthreatening, especially from the white tees. However, appearances can be deceiving. The course is characterized by its narrow fairways, which are tightly lined with trees, demanding accuracy off the tee. In addition, players must contend with numerous strategically placed bunkers that guard both fairways and greens, making every shot a potential test of skill and composure.

Winners

Only one player was able to manage 36 Stableford points last Sunday, Rey Moore. This earned her the respect of her fellow players and some money more importantly.

Andrea took low gross with a nice 84 with Claudio struggling with back stiffness over the closing holes.

Returning to TeeSet after spending most of the year on the Contimnent were Anna & Frank, who both picked up prizes. Anna low putts,31 and Frank first birdie.

Highlights and Memorable Shots

The day featured several impressive moments on the course. Notably, Michael executed a remarkable fairway bunker shot, sending the ball 145 metres to the green and securing a well-earned sandy par. This shot drew admiration from fellow players and highlighted the importance of precision and control when navigating Kedaton’s hazards. Preciision and control are rarely used in a sentence when people talk about Michael’s golf. No doubt there was a sprinkler head involved with that shot.

Earlier, both Thomas and Michel had achieved sandy pars on a previous par 5, a feat that was recognized with the prestigious Sandy Par prize. However, in a twist of fate, neither Thomas nor Michel attended the post-round presentations to receive their prizes. Additionally, despite Michael’s outstanding sandy par, he was overlooked during the prize distribution, leaving his achievement unrecognized in the official proceedings.

Conclusion

The outing at Kedaton Golf Course was a true test for all participants, combining the deceptive layout of the course with the camaraderie and competitive spirit that TeeSet is known for. While the fairways may be flat, the course’s challenges and the stories that emerged from the day prove that there is much more to Kedaton than meets the eye.

Congratulations to all who took part, and special recognition to those who mastered the course’s tricky bunkers. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next TeeSet event!

Modern Golf Club Tangerang

Event Report – 12 October

A Glorious Day Out at Modern Golf Club Tangerang

On Sunday, 12 October, golf enthusiasts gathered at the Modern Golf Club Tangerang for what proved to be a perfectly orchestrated day on the course. The event was a testament to thoughtful planning and seamless execution, offering participants a memorable experience that bridged the gap between Interleague play and the major tournaments on the calendar.

Event Organization and Course Conditions

From the moment players arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and efficient. Registration was handled with warmth and professionalism, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. The sight of buggies lined up and ready at tee boxes 1 and 10 was a reassuring sign of the organizers’ attention to detail, ensuring a smooth start for everyone involved.

The course itself was in excellent condition, providing a fair but enjoyable challenge for all golfers. Despite the presence of tricky pot bunkers—responsible for the day’s only notable moments of frustration—the overall setup allowed for a relaxed and enjoyable four and a half hour round, a notable feat for a Sunday outing.

Highlights and Achievements

Congratulations are in order for Jude and Carter, who delivered outstanding performances. Jude captured the Low Net title with an impressive score of 69, while Carter secured Low Gross honors, carding a 76 that included four remarkable birdies. Their achievements were a highlight of the day and a testament to their skill and composure on the course.

Two big performers Craig & Vijay take first Sandy & Birdie

Capturing the Spirit

The day was as much about camaraderie as competition. Anna and Sri deserve special mention for their video, which perfectly captured the spirit and joy of the event. Their efforts ensured that the memories and energy of the day were preserved, offering all participants a chance to relive the fun and fellowship long after the final putt.

Conclusion

All in all, it was a glorious day for the Tee Set community. The relaxed post-match gathering provided the perfect opportunity to unwind and celebrate both the game and the friendships that make days like these so special. Hats off to everyone involved for creating a flawless golf experience at Modern Golf Club Tangerang—here’s to many more! Glorious TeeSet

The Kojo Monthly Medal

Matin, a new member, takes the monthly medal with a great 39 points

The Day

The day did not bode well for the Writer as he had been attending the most serious of sporting events the AFL Grand Final where the first draft was consumed at 11am and then moved onto the Ryder Cup where the last draft was downed at 1am with other adult beverages consumed in between and a slice of bread. The day was sunny and a nice breeze kept the heat at bay.

More TeeSetters are driving around in electric buggies than ever before. Is this laziness or is it required to carry enough beers for 18 holes? The pace of play was ok on the first 9 but dragged a bit on the second allowing hangover recovery time or did it? Cengkareng once had a sign at the front gate claiming the best greens in Jakarta. That sign disappeared a few years back when some fungal disease beset the putting arenas. Last Sunday was the best they had been since the sign was last sighted. Just a few more patches and we’ll be back to the gold greens of Cengkareng

We were just shy of a full field with 46 players contesting the Medal. The leader board was tight at the top when we take into account Damion on 42 points disappeared to watch the mighty Brisbane Broncos get the job done in the NRL Semi-final rather than collect his medal and long drive prizes. Priorities are different for everyone. My new one is arrive in a more sober state for TeeSet golf. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.

We had 16 players who played to their handicap or better and another dozen within a few shots of that. The hand over to the new management seems to have been rater seamless intransaction which is good for us and therefore good for golf.

The Winners

The winners were all presented with a bag of beer from our sponsors San Miguel, brewer of Indonesia’s finest beers.

Richard happy with a gross 77 some money and especially a bag of beer.

Jason & Joe both nailed birdies on the first hole. Well done lads.

Joe nailed a drive 255m for more money and beer

Always in the winners circle, Shinta long drive 213m and NTP ladies

Axel was nearest the pin for men. Kindly offered the beer to me but I was still leaking from the previous night.

Vijay 1st sand on the 1st hole, failed on 3 other attempt before getting another on the 18th. His round was bookended by Sandy pars maybe a TeeSet first.

Tom had low putts with 30 taps of the flatstick.

Matchplay Results from Sunday

We are getting to the pointy end of the season and we had a few games being played alongside the Medal comp. Winners Jaako 2/0 over Leon in a competitive round played in the true spirit of TeeSet. Tom was the winner 5/4 over Hitoshi and in the same group we had the same result with Roger 5/4 over Trisna. Keeping the ladies alive in the Matchplay was Shinta who had a win of 5/3 over Jason. .

This Sunday Jakarta Interleague at Jagorawi Old Course

Things are also hotting up in the Interleague on the back of a good win by TeeSet last Round. We take on Pocksia this Sunday still need two players. Now is time for all good TeeSetters to come to the aid of the Team. Sign up on Mygolf2U for tomorrow’s game and we will get you a spot on theGlorious Tee Set Team.

Vale Rod Williams

Many of us woke to the news that, DOGS stawalt, occasional TeeSetter as well as Pocksia Captain, Rod Williams had passed away the previous evening. Rod was a larger than life personality amongst Jakarta’s golf societies and his passing will leave a huge hole in our community.

Our thoughts are with his family during this sad time. There will be a service for Rod at his house this Monday morning to be followed by a burial. Details will be available tomorrow at the course.

Kojo Monthly Medal

A group of 44 players headed out to contest the monthly medal. Conditions were initially, ideal but as we made our way around the course the wind picked up and the skies darkened. Shortly after the swing onto the back 9 the heavens unleashed a short torrential storm. Within a hole and a half it had moved on. It also moved on a slow moving Korean 4 ball in front of us. This led to a much faster back 9. The state of some of the greens were pretty poor. I know these things can’t be fixed overnight but little seems to be getting done.

Jari had a walk over in his Matchplay and Carter managed 2 eagles over the weekend. I have managed 1 over my golfing career and the witness is no longer with us. Does it still count? More and more TeeSet golfers are finding the walking course of Cengkareng to be beyond their physical capabilities and are resorting to carting around the course leaving wheel marks near greens and caddies in awe of your lack of effort.

Let’s get to the prizes before my cart arrives

Mark Patrick Kojo Monthly Medal Winner with 40 points. Well done after a long few days of golfing.

Carter takes low gross 76, long drive 228m, first eagle on the 14th.

First birdies all on the first Joe, Jari & Nico

Nearest the pin with a 1.3 metre next to the pin mark, Vijay.

Nearest the pin Rey 9m, long drive 204m. Well done.

First Sandy Par, Max on hole No9

Low putts Claudio with the 30 tapps of the flat stick

Imperial TeeSet Outing

Today’s p[ost on last week’s events will be short. I wasn’t there as was still in recovery mode from The Aus Embassy Lager Scramble. So let’s go to the winners before informing you of important upcoming golf.

Lukas pops up again on TeeSet and takes home the chocolates with a well played 39 Stableford points.

Continuing on with Germanic dominance, Jannes takes low gross with a 77. Well done.

Richard is right at home on Imperial and takes home the first birdie loot to boot.

Inappropriately attired for a TeeSet Sunday but that matters not when on the greens and Dead eye Bill only needed 29 taps of the flat stick to tame the Imperial greens.

Sunday Kojo Monthly Medal at Cengkareng 31/9/25

Once Teesetters proudly strode the fairways of this excellent walking course. Now we have most of the field in vehicles charging around the course. There are but a few athletes left. Pretty close to a full house so register on MyGolf2U or let Adhe you wanna play.

Now is the time for all good TeeSetters to come to the aid of the party.

Get your teams sorted and listed. Let Adhe know this Sunday or post them on the TeeSet Whatsapp and the committee will allocate you a lovely starting hole.
