Last Sunday 13 golfers head to JGC for the TeeSet Sunday round. This was a rather small number but this group was in for a delightful day’s golf. The author was running a bit late after helping security lock the gates at Pondok Indah Golf Club the evening before. His lateness was further enhanced by Blue Birds online navigation system taking him off to the golf course’s rubbish dump. This meant another lap under the tollway and added 15 minutes to the trip.
On arrival the 3 4-balls were already golfing, this left me as a lonesome golfer. It is a lot easier to cheat yourself as a lonesome golfer and I was busy putting my scores in the app whilst they unclustered the traffic jam at the club house. Once underway I saw the 3rd flight approaching the 10th green and the second flight waiting to tee off on the 11th. A soaring drive and a second shot on to the green hand me altering the bogey in the app to a birdie albeit it was a par.
From this point things went horribly wrong. I joined up with the 4 ball of Mike, Frank, Geoff and Gina to make a 5-ball, the course was quiet. Then the Korean 2 ball rolled up no point letting them through as we were hot behind Ollie, Tim, Christian and Dan. I was forced to delete the scores from the app for the 18 and put in new scores. The new scores were big numbers so after a while I hoisted the white flag and golfed for fun. Such a relief, the balls suddenly knew I was not going to hit the trees and they decide straight was a good direction.
Speaking of direction Emiliano managed to hit one tree for the round and informed us that not only did it come back to the middle of the fairway it went forward. Some blokes have all the luck. Now the 13 players who played JGC were treated to the usual baking hot conditions and fairways that saw the ball roll for ever. After it stopped rolling and you were either in a greenside bunker or better still on the green, then you were in for a treat. The sand in the bunkers is probably as good as it gets in Jakarta, you need to play a bunker shot in sand, not hard compressed sand. Proper bunkers a rarity. The greens, without a doubt the best conditioned greens in town. Whereas they may lack tricky lies and hard breaks they are not patchy and blight ridden like many of their competitors. You are putting on greens that have a consistency across the whole surface no brown bits or dead bits or bits that have been replaced. Putting heaven.
Anyways enough of that. The winner on the day was Emil with a masterly 74 off the stick and 39 points to take both prizes but in TeeSet tradition you can only win one, so low gross went to Ollie with a 87. The real winners were the 13 who had free beer as part of the deal we get. Also a big thanks to Albert for shout the other 2 flights a round of drinks. Much appreciated nothing like an icy cold beer to assist in the after golf warm down.

The Bloke who was late
