The Kojo Monthly Medal at The Manor

A glorious day revealed itself to the 44 golfers who came to contest the Monthly Medal at the Manor last Sunday. Luckily the rain held off and we had another blistering Sunday, just how we like it on a Sunday. We had a couple of father/son combos in the form of the Overbergs and the Rawles with both the juniors showing their seniors a clean pair of heels on the scorecard. The sun sets slowly fellas plenty more birdies to sink. We only had one match play on the day Craig V Surya with Arnold and Michael tagging along for the spectacle. On the first hole the 2 spectators backed the winner. The golfer in Red, both wore red. After a couple of holes things were looking shaky for Craig as Surya came out of the gates all guns blazing. A birdie on the first, nearly driving the 2nd for a par and the next halved due to having a shot before Surya creeps out to a 3 point lead. From then on Craig was relentless hitting fairways and making putts. On the Swing it was square. Craig suck one up on 10 and Surya had a penalty par to halve the next. After this Craig took it to 4 with 4 to play before a half at the next hole concluded an exciting match play. The two competitors and the other 2 shared a well earned beer at the 17th.

44 players is a rather large number and not many players can play at my speed and are not expected to and for many reasons slow play can occur, lost balls, important putts that need a bit longer in concentration or even a quick toilet break. Telling Adhe that people are playing slowly is basically telling the wrong person. If you have a gripe tell someone on the committee and slow play complaints are pretty petty. Tell a Committee member or keep it to yourself. There is always a chance to stand for the committee and solve these problems. Actually that opportunity is next month we look forward to your nominations.

Once again with the dry conditions The Manor played long and many scores showed this with nearly half the field playing or bettering their handicaps. Today’s correspondent actually came home one ball positive as two ventures into 2 ponds netted the wayward ball plus one other in a very shiny condition. The greens were not overly fast but the dry conditions on the fairways spooked a few golfers into believing they were. A few of the holes may have been broken as I witnessed quite a few lipouts and close shaves. Brazil?
