Sunday 19th July 2020 Imperial

The Day

Sunday saw us return to Imperial for the first time in 5 months where we were welcomed by the Club’s team and well looked after during the day. The course was in good conditions, greens running a little quicker than some of our other recent rounds and with the weather perfect for golf, several of the group took the opportunity to return some excellent scores on what can be a tricky lay out.

Welcome to Bill Marpe who joined us for the first time and welcome backs to Robert Sweigart, Holger Molendyk, Srivinas Murthy and Ken Runyon.

Thank you to Jens Roestel and Alastair Livingston who helped out in the absence of VP Ric Wymer who was having a well deserved Sunday off.

The President was certainly pleased to see the manual scoring was matched by the official results when cards were entered after the round and so will not have to deal with too many complaints at next week’s event for mis-allocated prizes!

The Play

Match play winner, our solitary Skirt on the day and First Birdie saw James Bristow take center stage in the prize-giving whilst making a small profit from the prizes. James was joined in the fines by Monster Putter awardee Grant Lutz and Most Strokes awardee Robert Sweigart who saved an illustrious list of potential fines one stroke behind. First Sandy went to Roger Finnie, Low Putts a 3-way tie between Jaco Zaymaan, Christine Lie and Ken Runyon whilst Alastair Livingston took Low Gross on a count-back from Richard Mau. Most Improved on the day went to Jari Antikainen.

Our Low Net winners were Ian Pemberton, Mark Johnson and Grant Lutz.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Imperial 1907 Results

Tee Set Match-Play

2 matches this week both involving 2018 Champion Jens Roestel who won 2&1 against defending champion Roger Finnie mid-week then was edged out in the bracket semi-final 2down by James Bristow. Congratulations to James who now moves onto the Emas bracket final.

Sunday 12th July 2020 Riverside

The Day

With Tee Set’s regular Sunday coinciding with the return from a 4 month enforced hiatus for the Jakarta Inter-League, 73 players descended on Riverside this week with 44 of them choosing to also join the Tee Set competition, making it a bumper day all round. With social distancing measures still on place, despite starting on time with a mini-shotgun, there was a fairly long gap between the front starters and those last out so thank you to all the players for their patience and to the Riverside team for doing their best to keep everything smooth and get us out as early as possible.

Out on the course, the weather was perfect for golf and the course played well ensuring that fully a third of the field returned scores at or below net par off the white tees which were being played on Sunday.

A warm welcome to Sari Smith who joined us for the first time. Thank you to Ric Wymer and Jens Roestel for their assistance during registrations and more importantly, the scoring whilst the rest of us enjoyed a few refreshments. All in all a good day with the major hiccup being the camera taking a rest day so we missed being able to post all the photos taken during the day and at the prize-giving…

The Play

Making it 3 skirts from 3 weeks, Andy Hyndman was up for the photo where he was joined by Benedikt Blenk and Dimitri Burge. Andy was able to recover his fine with First Par handicaps >=30 as was our Monster Putter and Most Strokes winner Frank Eschenhagen who also won Most Improved.

Divya Ahuja won first Sandy and Marcelo de Jesus took home Low Putts. A 3 way prize for First Birdie with Keith Gorman, Paul Daud and Philip Schaferdieck all starting well whilst Dave Prosser secured our lone eagle on the day for his prize.

Ian Pemberton continued his fine form for Low Net where he was joined by Tribhuvan Singh and Reni Riley. Low Gross was shared between Tee Set Captain Simon Reynolds and President Roger Finnie.

Detailed results are here: Riverside 1207 Results

Jakarta Inter-League

After a 4 month hiatus due to the Covid-19 crisis, JIL made a come-back Sunday with the delayed 2nd round of matches being completed. Big winners on the day were Cloggies 8-2 versus defending champions Tin Cups whilst Sentul Swingers recorded their second 6-4 victory in edging out Sandbaggers. In the bottom match Tee Set and Pocksia finished tied 5-5.

Tee Set Match Play Championships

2 matches completed on Sunday with Tribhuvan Singh winning 4&2 against Dave Barnes and Arnold Castillon edging out JIL playing partner Divya Ahuja 1UP (?tbc).

The updated schedule for the remaining rounds of the competition is now set out on the website and the next deadline is 26th July.

Sunday 5th July 2020 Padang Modern

The Day

A return visit to Modern this week after a hiatus of 6 months saw 29 Tee Setters take on the flat but occasionally deceptive challenge of this Peter Thompson designed lay-out. The staff and starter were very welcoming and we were off at our booked time of 11.30am under bright skies. With the course being a little quieter in front of us, the other afternoon gathering teeing off afterwards, we were round in good time to have the scoring and prize-giving all finished before 5pm leaving several of us to enjoy a couple of refreshments before departing.

The fairways and greens were in good condition but the soft rough and deep bunkers provided a challenge for those straying from the straight and true as did the soft slightly muddy fringes; all of which added up to just 3 players scoring under their net par.

A warm welcome to Dimitri Burge who joined us for the first time and our only notable welcome back was Bruce Smart after 15 weeks. Thank you to all the Modern staff for their hospitality this visit and to VP Ric Wymer for managing the scoring and results on the day.

The Play

A second week joining us and a second skirt saw Andy Hyndman up for the skirt photo again where he was joined by Tim Fehling who completed the booby prize tri-fecta by also securing Monster Putter and Most Strokes. Andy who had arrived close to tee off and therefore rushed to the 1st tee, settled down during the round and was able to recover his fine by taking Most Improved. First Sandy went to Alastair Livingston.

Low Putts went to Jens Roestel and First Birdie to Dave Prosser. Low Gross was secured by Roger Finnie and our Low Net winners were Ian Pemberton, Sami Kekonen and Indar Dhaliwal.

Sunday 28th June 2020 Cengkareng Monthly Medal

The Day

Half way through the calendar year but only a month back to some normalcy in our weekly arrangements, Sunday saw 42 tee setters turn out for June’s monthly medal at the ever popular Cengkareng; although one card was missing at the end giving us 41 returns for the prize-giving.

A bright but overcast day with a strong blustery breeze ensured that the course generally got the better of us this visit with unusually only a small number of players at or below net par by the end of the day. Nevertheless, we were round in good time and able to enjoy the excellent hospitality of the Cengkareng team with the ladies leading the festivities after we had finished.

A warm welcome to Andrew Hyndman and welcome backs to Rosie Putri, JP Seveke, Steve Sutton and Dave Barnes all after 18 weeks. Thanks to Craig Edwards for taking the lead with the morning pairings and registrations and to Michael Seabrook for helping VP Ric Wymer with the scoring entries post round.

The Play

Fresh from glory a couple of weeks back, Michael Seabrook was again staring in the prize giving albeit this week for Monster Putter and Most Strokes; he narrowly avoided the trifecta with the skirt being shared by newcomer Andrew Hyndman, Mark Johnson, Rob Nicholls, James Bristow and Indar Dhaliwal. Andrew was however able to recover his fine with First Par for handicaps >=30 whilst Most Improved went to Lis Wymer.

Michael Seabrook also recovered his fine with First Birdie, First Sandy went to Craig Edwards and Low Putts ended in a 5-way tie between Doug McQuater, Dave Barnes, Jude Alexander, Matt Roberts and Marcelo de Jesus.

Low Gross on the day went to Simon Reynolds whilst Ian Pemberton, Juju Juhaeriah and Cucu Chandra took home Low Nets.

In the Month Medal skill prizes, the Wymers took home NTP mens and ladies whilst Dave Prosser and Rosie Putri took out the Long Drives.

Our monthly medalist, medal to be presented next time the President is there, was Leon Bivolaru who pipped the ladies with an excellent return of 41 points. Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Cengkareng 0620 Results

Tee Set Match Play Championships

3 more games were completed on Sunday. Completing the first knock-out round saw Dave Barnes pip Dave Prosser 1up after Jens Roestel had beaten Tim Knight 5&4 the previous week at Riverside and Chris Lever had received a walk-over due to continuing work restrictions placed on Graham Parsonage which prevented him from being able to complete his match.

In the second knock-out round, Simon Reynolds outlasted Timo Karonen to win on the 19th hole whilst Leon Bivolaru beat Craig Edwards 8&7.

Thank you to everyone for their support in helping us get all first round matches completed by Sunday and a good head-start on catching up with the next round as we are few weeks behind. The updated schedule for the remaining rounds of the competition is now set out on the website and the next deadline is 26th July.

Sunday 21st June 2020 Gading Raya

The Day

Gading reopened at the beginning of June with limited operations so we were afforded an early tee time at 11.10am but with the course being quiet, we still managed to head out ahead of this for a truly early time for most Tee Setters. A sunny day book-ended our round with a heavy down-pour soaking most players as the first groups reached the turn. Despite the enforced break for 15-20 minutes, we were still round in good time and finished in just over 4 hours.

The Gading team looked after us very well and it was a pleasure to be back. The course played well despite the heavy rains further softening the fairways and leaving a few puddles to be navigated on the lower lying areas.

A special welcome to our 2 newcomers on the day, Joseph Chan and Gaurac Shirke, we hope you enjoyed the day and to see you back soon.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer for managing the scoring and results presentation and photos of the day are here.

The Play

Some excellent scores, some who got full value for the day but for all, it was great to be able to capture the awards for the first time since relaunching official events. First up, the ever popular skirt photo with Timo Karonen and Marcelo de Jesus being there to enjoy the dress-up bag. Most Strokes was taken by Benedikt Blenk and whilst Elena Viktoria had a tough day on the greens, she was also recovered the fine by taking Most Improved.

First Par for Handicaps >=30 was taken by Weera Limjirakajorn, 1st Sandy by Harry Lopez, and First Birdie by James Bristow. Our master of the flat stick this week was Juju Juhaeriah.

Jeff Landau came home in 36 for a fine round of 76 gross and our Low Net winners were Ronald Lim, Miguel Veronesi and Timo Toivonen.

Detailed results of the day are here: Gading 210620 Results

If you are able to join us please sign up here. First tee time is 12.oopm as usual and the green fee is Rp.875,000. A reminder that Cengkareng have in place procedures to comply with social distancing requirements; these will apply both pre- & post round plus on the course and we are all expected to follow these whilst at the Club.

Reminder: For those who would prefer not to walk, in addition to the hover boards to glide across the rolling fairways, Cengkareng has available a limited number of golf carts. If you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengkareng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts
