Breakfast with a view ….
The day
Tee Setters are clearly getting used to Imperial’s full day offering, with early risers arriving from 9 onwards, enjoying breakfast, some warming up on the range and short game area, and some healthy banter with fellow Tee Setters and Imperial staff. The view from our now reserved porch area is among the best in Indonesian golf and the staff at Imperial continue to look after us extremely well.
While rain threatened and thunder barked, a healthy turnout of 46 Tee Setters managed to get around quickly and without having to bring out the brollies.
The course was in excellent condition and provided a nicely balanced mix of birdies and blow-outs.
A special welcome back to David Kettle after a stunning 149 weeks away. We do however suspect that he is getting to play elsewhere after his shooting a very handy 84 off the stick.
A welcome also to our only Newcomer on the day, Murray Samuel, known to a number of Tee Setters but joining us for the very first time.
We are pleased to report that sales of the extra shirts we had produced at the time of the 2014 Tee Set Championship are selling well to Tee Setters who weren’t able to attend at that time, and indeed our many Newcomers.
In an attempt at single-handedly driving our shirt sales along, Pascal Bekaert bought his fourth Championship shirt today and, when asked, muttered something about his maid. Should you know of a maid looking for a job and capable of laundering without destroying then you might get in touch with Pascal, though he does say that the incumbent is excellent at warming his Santi’s Premium Pies 🙂
As ever, the pleasant after play ambience in our reserved porch area meant that the hard-core was still around and having fun until nearly 8pm.

We promised we would have longest drive and nearest to the pin paraphernalia out, and we delivered, Santi having to pay a 50,000 roops for what they described as an “erection fee”, which she later recouped from the Web Guy standing in for just about everyone on the day – he complained that he had never been asked to pay for such a thing before. While Imperial erected, their recording was a flop, so the prizes again went unawarded. Next time!!
Monthly Medal today of course and with James Ross hoping to win for the third time running, however, it was not to be with Rocky Wanglei winning the Medal and 6 of Santi’s finest with 41 Stableford points.
Simon Reynolds maintained his stranglehold on Low Gross with 77 while Chris Murchison took the Low Net for A grade with a one under par 71.
Lina Bunter took out C Grade with an impressive 66 nett, showing that a great stroke score does not always translate into a winning Stableford score.
In other skill categories, Bushy saved par from the beach as early the 3rdhole, Paul Humphries came fast out of the blocks with a birdie on the first while Matt Kaempf took a well deserved trip to the winner’s circle with 1st par for over 30 handicap.
Mick Dodsworth clearly enjoyed his second nine rather better with an 11 shot improvement and, as you will see in this video, it was not to be the first time Mick has ever recovered from a poor start.
A very first Skirt ever for Chris Lever while the other five had been up there a number of times previously, some of them being in the serial cross-dresser category.
John Suermondt is a pretty solid putter but had a bad day at the office to take Most Putts with 42 while Liu’s 14 on a hole was enough to make a number of high scorers breathe a sigh of relief after they had shot numbers that would have had them “winning” Most Strokes in other weeks. John at least had the consolation of sharing 1st Par HC >= 30 to more than get his money back.

2015 Tee Set Matchplay Championship
Apart from being the Monthly Medal and the second round of the Imperial Champion Eclectic, there were a number of matches scheduled as part of the 2015 Tee Set Matchplay.
The decision of the Supreme Allied Commander of Matchplay, Fernando (El Guapo) Gaggino, to match players in the same grade, again proved to create some well matched and exciting first round battles .
Chris Lever, who drew the Singing President on the same handicap, was so focused that, on the first tee, he placed his tee in the ground, had an aggressive practice swing and then remembered he needed a ball, which his caddy was to hastily fetch from his cart.
Perhaps a little distracted by the Singing President’s new custom tailored batik golf strides and rare driving consistency, Chris went on to have his own first ever skirt though, in fairness, the ladies tee was a good 60 metres in front, and he was to lose his match 4 and 2.

Mark Johnson and Chris Murchison battled it out with outstanding golf, Mark’s miserly 22 putts, though equalling the all-time Tee Set low, was not enough to counter Chris’s deadly accuracy with an iron in his hands.
Simon Reynolds caught matchplay specialist Neil Mullins on an off-day to draw blood there while the in-form John Suermondt ousted legend Tom Alcedo (or however John decided to pronounce Tom’s name, he has several outstanding variations) and the smooth and steady Jiro won a tight contest with Geary who found form too late after a slow start.
Matchplay is golf at its purest and brings players together so, thanks once again to Fernando for all his work. We will continue to feature matches as they are played
Next up
It’s off down the Jagorawi tol for a Jagorawi Tee Set next Sunday in an event where we will also be showing support to our Interleague team, a team looking to continue their great 10-0 start to the season last month.
Tee offs start around 9:30 and with green fees of a rather more expensive than usual 1,050,00 roops. On the bright side, and in a moment of unprecedented generosity, Tee Set’s usual 100,000 fee is waived this week despite the usual array of glittering prizes being on offer!

That Rancamaya is a great course has never been in doubt, with top class green stuff of every kind throughout – and lovingly maintained, largely free of bothersome tee box “entrepreneurs”, very cute caddies and a terrific clubhouse with all the necessary – and this in a quite stunning mountain setting.
A reduced but enthusiastic field of just 25 Tee Setters, a result of the long Easter weekend and Bandung Bash, were to enjoy glorious weather at the start, weather which was thankfully to cool down somewhat after midday as relief in the shape of cloud cover made a most welcome appearance. Those who had chosen to walk were certainly feeling the pain by the end.
Kedaton features more water than a stick could sensibly shaken at with the dreaded H2O making its presence felt on fully 17 of its 18 holes.
