maybe not so comfortable …..

The day

Welcome backs

Just one Newcomer in Lars Schaumann to report today, enjoy your golf with Tee Set, Lars, the caddies get prettier than those found at PJ – and don’t forget to bring your new Tee Set shirt and other paraphernalia next week!

Welcome Backs rather sparse too with Kathy Hill’s 43 weeks topping the bill, well ahead of Dawn’s 18 weeks. Welcome back to all.

crowdA reduced but enthusiastic field of just 25 Tee Setters, a result of the long Easter weekend and Bandung Bash, were to enjoy glorious weather at the start, weather which was thankfully to cool down somewhat after midday as relief in the shape of cloud cover made a most welcome appearance. Those who had chosen to walk were certainly feeling the pain by the end.

A full car pack was not to be the best of views upon arrival, however, the PJ starter is always keen to pick up his two red backs and managed to get the groups off more or less on time from two tee boxes – and an entirely reasonable 4.5 hour round for most, with the course far more free-flowing on the back nine after the 9 o’clock starters had left the battlefield.

After overnight rain, lift clean and cheat was still in place as the Singing President was on duty in Bandung and in no position to override the rule. Harold Haynes, in his last few months with Tee Set before moving back to the States, said he knew nothing about the Easter weekend Bandung Bash – and must surely he must be the only one with his head that deep in the sand 🙂

With Harold visibly disappointed by learning he’d missed the boat on such a legendary event, we decided to let him play off the white tees as small compensation.

Babora Gaislerova was breaking in a new set of clubs which she had been given way ahead of her birthday. When quizzed on how they performed, the only comment forthcoming was “I could have played 5 or more shots better”.  Join the club, Barbora, we all wish for that, and maybe even a little more.

The course was a little under-mown due to the recent heavy rains and with very little roll as a result, but the truly staggering change, never seen before on PJ, was the blue tee boxes set way back in the zone normally reserved for the black tees on many holes – with the result that we were all intensely jealous to see Harold teeing off so much in front of us from the whites.

Good to see the club management spending some money on the amenities such as the new chairs provided on tee box 1 – very comfortable while you wait for the numerous flights in front of you to tee off 😦

The play

Skills

TonyHarryThe occasionally maligned PJ was up to it today with no one matching its par even with a handicap – and Simon Reynolds usual Low Gross of 84 was 10 (ten) more than his round at the mighty Jags in Interleague last week. No pushover then.

Alastair, Harry Hill and Chris Till took the Low Nets in A, B & C – a first ever Tee Set cash-positive Sunday for Chris!

2015 Matchplay Championship

Three more 1st round results today, with 2 of them going to the 19th green!

Koen beat Mike Webb 3 and 2

Keith beat El Guapo on the putting green

James beat Ric on the putting green

Boobies

CaptureJames Ross, newcomer Lars Schaumann, Jaroslav Gaisler and Keith Miller did not cope so well with the tee boxes being set so far back with all them succumbing to the numerous cross dressing opportunities afforded by Tee Set as you see in the photo – Keith with his very first swing of the day – to the delight of a significant if sensibly muted audience.

PieterGreens were a little furry and Pieter Groen did not cope too well here either, taking Monster Mutter with a stand-out 43.

He does already have the tee-shirt and looks so comfortable in the monkey mask that one can only imagine that  more high putting is on the way 🙂

Although Harold had the luxury of playing off the whites he still managed to get most strokes at 12, much to the dismay of the treasurer who was hoping to take money off the 6 players all perched on 9 shots. Nevertheless Harold still ended the day ahead after collecting the Most Improved award.

april foolsWell, we don’t think we fooled too many of you with our April Fools Day post – but we did get some excellent golf jokes, many thanks to all who contributed – sadly none of them will be showing off their new Titleist clubs and near unlimited supply of Pro V1’s across the playing fields of Jakarta in the near future 🙂

You can see the various contributions by clicking on “comments” on the bottom of the post – later we will move them to our “Golf Tales” page.

April fool’s is dead and gone, so we can tell you in all honesty that we will have a Tee Set on Easter Sunday with an 11am start from 1 & 10. Green fees of just 490,000 to which you can add 90,000 (from memory) for a shared cart if you don’t wan’t to walk a very walking friendly course. Don’t be late, they often get us away early!!

If you want to join the more than 20 Tee Setters already signed up then do the needful here.

See ya at PJ!! … Tee Set

PS a couple of opportunities for play and giving at the same time in the near future, the top class Society of Petroleum Engineeers event at Jagorawi on the 24th April and the Cilandak Rotary event at the same venue on the 25th May.

PPS Joseph Peries tells us there are still a few opportunities for sponsoring the SPE event, drop him a line here if of interest to you “oilies”

N, S, E and W of Indonesia also

Let’s start out today by thanking everybody who visited the site in March not only between Aceh and Papua but N, S E & W of Indonesia also. This what the visits looked like by country in March before we look at the fantastic prize we have in our new competition celebrating the role of golf in a multi-cultural world.

March Web Stats by country

It is nice to know we are not on our own with the traffic and the floods here in Jakarta but that there are others far away,  and not so far away, keeping a benevolent eye on our weekly derring do here in the City that Really Never Sleeps.

setSo, how about that prize? ….. ok, it’s like this, the golfing joke considered to the best by a committee consisting of the Singing President, the Former President of Almost Everything and the Web Guy, left as a reply to this post before Midnight WIB today, April 1st, will receive a line up of the latest Titleist driver, 3&5 woods and a full set of irons together with  1,000 Titleist Pro V1s, all delivered to you anywhere in the word – remember BEFORE midnight tonight, 1st April, Jakarta time.

Good luck and cheers, Tee Set

Jagorawi New Course, Sunday 29th March

getting readyThe day

The combination of Interleague and Tee Set at Jagorawi proved to be too much for many Tee Setters as they opted for a week off.  Those that came either joined Interleague teams or played Tee Set and were to be rewarded with a glorious rain free day and mostly played top golf on the New Course.

Without the normal cash reserves raised on the day due to Tee Set fees being waived and Inteleague fees paid on behalf of everyone, Brenda, presumably on the instructions of our tight fisted Treasurer, informed all and sundry that Tee Set prizes would not be awarded for the day – and bragging rights alone were what you got.  This restricted the Singing President who doesn’t Sing Anymore’s post match duties to buying beer.

Newcomer Kristian

Newcomer Kristian

One Newcomer to welcome in the shape of Kristian Toivio, enjoy your golf with us Kristian –  and just two Welcome backs in Tettie who we hadn’t seen for 11 weeks and Jess who has been playing traunt for an unprecedentedly long nearly two months.

At last year’s Interleague Prize giving and BBQ the Former President of Almost Everything (more pedantically, he was actually the Immediate Past President at that time) issued a warning, with the the microphone in his hand, that the-times-they-are-a-changin’ and that Tee Set might be the team to beat in 2015. Prescient or bullshit? … read on!

2014 winners, the Cloggies poo-pooed this of course with rousing cheers of “bring it on, bring it on” to the amusement of the gathered multitude. Today was to be the day of reckoning.

Two extra flights joined the day for stroke play while Jaco joined the JLI to make up numbers in their Interleague match – and did a great job in support, just missing out on playing to his handicap. In fact the majority of players either played close to their handicaps or under. Maybe we’ve finally discovered the way to tame the intimidating layout of the Jagorawi New course. Or maybe not.

Finally, thanks to Brenda for taking over the reins when the entire committee bailed out, mostly to to follow the World Cup cricket final at Fez.

The play

Interleague

Ric gets things going

Ric getting things going

Pride of place to the Interleague team this week where our guys produced probably the finest result Tee Set has ever had in the competition – an 8-2 hammering of reigning champions, the Cloggies, and Ric’s optimism back at the Interleague prize giving proven solidly based 🙂

The Former President of Almost Everything and current Interleague team captain had a plan, and that plan was to play in-form players regardless of handicap – aided in this by the detailed statistics we keep on every round played by every Tee Setter – and with the result that the team had only two experienced Interleague players while the rest had only one round at best.

Amongst other things, those detailed statistics told Captain and Former President of Almost Everything, Ric Wymer, that he should sit this one out – and he was wisely to do so!

ILRHappily, some plans work to perfection and this one certainly did, with the end result being that we did not lose a single match – with three wins and two all-square giving us that handsome 8 – 2 win.

Simon Reynolds got us off to a great start with his best ever Tee Set round of 73 off the stick to defeat Jagorawi member and 2 handicapper Simon Lawton, 3 and 2, a round which included 5 birdies, including 3 in a row in the last 4 holes.  Joseph d’Cruz, himself a Jagorawi member, shot a net 65 in winning win his singles 3 and 2 also.

Anlo and Divya confirmed their dream team status with yet another 3 and 2 victory, again with Anlo leading the team with another under par performance.

First time to Interleague but certainly no stranger to matchplay, Peter Bush, shot a net 70, despite 6 penalties, to help square a hard fought match after being one down with two to play and in the process ensuring that the Singing President retained his undefeated Interleague record. Bushy squared a number of holes with long putts, much to the frustration of the opposition but the Singing President chipped in (sic) with a net eagle to square the match on the 17th hole.

Tee Setters

A remarkable number of Tee Setters playing for opposition teams as ever!!

Fellow Interleague virgins Chris Chan and Chris Lever paired together to make it easy for the opposition to remember their names, also battled it out to an all square result, with Chris Lever also playing under par.

Well done by all and with a record now of having played two and won two – and racking up 18 points for against only two conceded in the process, we head the table and have been newly installed as the bookies favourites to go on to take the Championship!

We all know what can happen to favourites of course (refrains of “bring it on, bring it on” here to remind us should it be needed) so it is essential to stay focussed and keep the momentum going – we will certainly need to do both when we come up against the prickly Pocksia. Exciting times, c’mon Tee Set!!

Next up: Jagorawi New Course, Sunday 29th March

JagorawiYes, it’s off down the wacky Jagorawi tol for Tee Set Sunday at one of Jakarta’s premier courses, and this for an event where we will also be showing support to our Interleague team, a team looking to build on their great 10-0 start to the season last month.

The Interleague team is already selected and informed – but it’s a secret, as we wouldn’t wish to give the opposition, in the shape of the Cloggies – last year’s winner and this year’s favourites – even the slightest advantage.

Tee offs start around 9:30 at on Sunday and with green fees of a rather more expensive than usual 1,050,00 roops though, in a moment of unprecedented generosity by the Former President of Almost Everything with his Treasure’s hat on, Tee Set’s usual 100,000 match fee is waived for all this week 🙂

Sign up here as usual if you intend playing but have yet to do so, it’s going to be a great day!

Monthly Medal @ Imperial, Sunday 22nd March 2014

Breakfast with a view ....

Breakfast with a view ….

The day

Tee Setters are clearly getting used to Imperial’s full day offering, with early risers arriving from 9 onwards, enjoying breakfast, some warming up on the range and short game area, and some healthy banter with fellow Tee Setters and Imperial staff.  The view from our now reserved porch area is among the best in Indonesian golf and the staff at Imperial continue to look after us extremely well.

Welcome backs

While rain threatened and thunder barked, a healthy turnout of 46 Tee Setters managed to get around quickly and without having to bring out the brollies.

The course was in excellent condition and provided a nicely balanced mix of birdies and blow-outs.

A special welcome back to David Kettle after a stunning 149 weeks away. We do however suspect that he is getting to play elsewhere after his shooting a very handy 84 off the stick.

A welcome also to our only Newcomer on the day, Murray Samuel, known to a number of Tee Setters but joining us for the very first time.

We are pleased to report that sales of the extra shirts we had produced at the time of the 2014 Tee Set Championship are selling well to Tee Setters who weren’t able to attend at that time, and indeed our many Newcomers.

In an attempt at single-handedly driving our shirt sales along, Pascal Bekaert bought his fourth Championship shirt today and, when asked, muttered something about his maid. Should you know of a maid looking for a job and capable of laundering without destroying then you might get in touch with Pascal, though he does say that the incumbent is excellent at warming his Santi’s Premium Pies 🙂

Goodbye from the hard coreAs ever, the pleasant after play ambience in our reserved porch area meant that the hard-core was still around and having fun until nearly 8pm.

The play

Skills

Longest drive hole

pretty but, erm, useless ….. the banner, not Jaco 🙂

We promised we would have longest drive and nearest to the pin paraphernalia out, and we delivered, Santi having to pay a 50,000 roops for what they described as an “erection fee”, which she later recouped from the Web Guy standing in for just about everyone on the day – he complained that he had never been asked to pay for such a thing before.  While Imperial erected, their recording was a flop, so the prizes again went unawarded.  Next time!!

Rocky pie winnerMonthly Medal today of course and  with James Ross hoping to win for the third time running, however, it was not to be  with Rocky Wanglei winning the Medal and 6 of Santi’s finest with 41 Stableford points.

Simon Reynolds maintained his stranglehold on Low Gross with 77 while Chris Murchison took the Low Net for A grade with a one under par 71.

Lina Bunter took out C Grade with an impressive 66 nett, showing that a great stroke score does not always translate into a winning Stableford score.

In other skill categories, Bushy saved par from the beach as early the 3rdhole, Paul Humphries came fast out of the blocks with a birdie on the first while Matt Kaempf took a well deserved trip to the winner’s circle with 1st par for over 30 handicap.

Mick Dodsworth clearly enjoyed his second nine rather better with an 11 shot improvement and, as you will see in this video, it was not to be the first time Mick has ever recovered from a poor start.

Boobies

Skirts

A very first Skirt ever for Chris Lever while the other five had been up there a number of times previously, some of them being in the serial cross-dresser category.

John Suermondt is a pretty solid putter but had a bad day at the office to take Most Putts with 42 while Liu’s 14 on a hole was enough to make a number of high scorers breathe a sigh of relief after they had shot numbers that would have had them “winning” Most Strokes in other weeks. John at least had the consolation of sharing 1st Par HC >= 30 to more than get his money back.

Fuller, player by player, results of the day here.

2015 Tee Set Matchplay Championship

Matchplay resultsApart from being the Monthly Medal and the second round of the Imperial Champion Eclectic, there were a number of matches scheduled as part of the 2015 Tee Set Matchplay.

The decision of the Supreme Allied Commander of Matchplay, Fernando (El Guapo) Gaggino, to match players in the same grade, again proved to create some well matched and exciting first round battles .

Chris Lever, who drew the Singing President on the same handicap, was so focused that, on the first tee, he placed his tee in the ground, had an aggressive practice swing and then remembered he needed a ball, which his caddy was to hastily fetch from his cart.

Perhaps a little distracted by the Singing President’s new custom tailored batik golf strides and rare driving consistency, Chris went on to have his own first ever skirt though, in fairness, the ladies tee was a good 60 metres in front, and he was to lose his match 4 and 2.

Mark takes some consolation following his Matchplay loss

Mark takes some consolation following his Matchplay loss

Mark Johnson and Chris Murchison battled it out with outstanding golf, Mark’s miserly 22 putts, though equalling the all-time Tee Set low, was not enough to counter Chris’s deadly accuracy with an iron in his hands.

Simon Reynolds caught matchplay specialist Neil Mullins on an off-day to draw blood there while the in-form John Suermondt ousted legend Tom Alcedo (or however John decided to pronounce Tom’s name, he has several outstanding variations) and the smooth and steady Jiro won a tight contest with Geary who found form too late after a slow start.

Matchplay is golf at its purest and brings players together so, thanks once again to Fernando for all his work. We will  continue to feature matches as they are played

Next up

It’s off down the Jagorawi tol for a Jagorawi Tee Set next Sunday in an event where we will also be showing support to our Interleague team, a team looking to continue their great 10-0 start to the season last month.

Tee offs start around 9:30 and with green fees of a rather more expensive than usual 1,050,00 roops. On the bright side, and in a moment of unprecedented generosity, Tee Set’s usual 100,000 fee is waived this week despite the usual array of glittering prizes being on offer!

Sign up here as usual when you are also asked to mention if you are available for Intereleague selection in the comments box.

Next up: Monthly Medal @ Imperial, Sunday 22nd March 2015

Imperial sunsetThe Nearest to the Pin and the Long Drive paraphernalia are all sorted, vouchers received from Slaney’s Butchery while Santi has taken the pies out of the oven and the shield has been engraved and brought up to date.

So, we are all set to go for the latest instalment in the Monthly Medal saga with plenty to play for, not least those valuable bragging rights. Several pairs will also be playing their 1st round Matchplays; putt out guys to makes sure you are also in the general swirl of things.

Tom Grace was runner-up in January and joint winner in February, will he go the final step this month?

A little fairy tells us that Imperial is just fantastic condition at the moment so a great day to look forward to. Register here if you are not one of nearly 30 Tee Setters already signed up for the fun; tee off from 1 & 10 at 11:48 and with green fees of a very reasonable 750,000 roops including shared cart – surely great value for this superb course.

Interleague

It has been a since our brave guys and gals won their first outing in the Interleague in fine fashion, however, here is a reminder from the Interleague Newsletter published today.

When deciding that the general Tee Set event would be separated from the Interleague, your committee wisely decided that, on two occasions during the year, the body of the kirk would join those on the altar and play with them 🙂 A reminder therefore that the first such occasion is the week after the Monthly Medal, on the 29th March.

See ya at Imperial!! … Tee Set

Kedaton, Sunday 15th March 2015

k-paul-and-chris-cThe day

Of the encouraging number of 36 Tee Setters showing at Kedaton today, there were a large number of very early birds, with the journey time even better than advertised and many were there as early as 9am. who needs the Jagorawi Tol 😦

Among the 36 could be found the Honorary Vice President for Exotic Drinks welcomed back after 9 weeks away, arriving so early that he had to leave without performing his mixologistical duties.  In fairness, Kedaton Club House and exotic drinks are not the most natural of partners.  Let’s leave it to next week at Imperial, James.

A larger than usual morning turnout of Kedaton members threatened a significant delay in Tee Set’s 11am start time but our first groups teed off before 11:30, so credit to the starter, members and marshals for moving play along.

The Singing President announced that men would be playing off the white tees due to the length of the course (as it turned out, apologies we had the wrong information on this).

The change was welcomed quietly by many and challenged loudly by others even though Handicaps had been adjusted accordingly  In any event despite this horrific development the scores showed that the course proved a fair test off the whites, the earth span normally on its axis while continuing to circle the sun – and the birds failed to appreciate the enormity of this earth-shattering change and just carried on singing.

That there was just one player under par off the “too easy” white tees on the day tells its own story – and even he needed the aid of a 27 handicap to do so 🙂

We are back to the blues for men next week at Imperial for the March Monthly Medal and the second round of the eclectic 6 week Imperial Champions’ competition, so a chance to make up for the holes you blew out on last time!!

The rain threatened and then came but play continued and then went away as it so often has during this year’s kindly wet season.

The Kedaton course and greens were in good shape and once again the chance to walk the course was welcomed by those many craving some exercise after a week stuck in the office, classroom, hotel or airport lounges.

A big thank you to Santi Miller for standing in and assisting Brenda while the Former Past President for Almost Everything went on tour and the Web Guy enjoyed a well-deserved day off Tee Set duties.

Welcome Backs

No Newcomers to report for the first time in a while.

Fully 34 of the 36 players playing today had played in the previous two weeks leaving us with just 2 Welcome Backs and even they were only in single figure. Well done the hard-core.

Special mention for Maya Till who broke 100 for the first time today in demonstrating further steady improvement.  Chris could be heard singing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and offering the occasional profanity in the background – but it clearly didn’t put Maya off her game.

The play

Skills

K Santi

With Simon Reynolds donning his now customary mint green strides and narrowly maintaining his clutch on Low Gross with a 79 strokes, there was an absolute scramble for the Low Nett awards with A Grade shared among 5 but eventually being decided on a count-back with Santi Miller narrowly pipping her playing partner Neil Mullins in shooting an impressive 39 on the back nine.

Santi’s playing performance was obviously assisted by Keith’s absence and Neil Mullins’ much smoother cart driving.  They made sharing the cart easy too by hitting their shots to the same position as this photo on the 15thgreen demonstrates.

James Ross maintained his consistent form in winning Low Net B grade once again while Jan Jelinek maintained kept his household’s account sheet with Tee Set positive by taking Low Net C grade and allowing Leona what will undoubtedly be a short break from the spotlight.

Of the five A Grade net winners who remained in the clubhouse, Sofree Abdul, took out 1st Sandy while joining Sofree in the winners circle was Anlo du Pisani who won his skirt money back with 1st Birdie on the very first hole.

Most Improved with 9 strokes was awarded by the Singing President to himself, in what he described as a lack of skill prize after a very shoddy, hungover front nine of 53.  Pascal celebrated with  1st Par >= 30 handicap, again winning his skirt money back.

Today was another clear demonstration the what the Lord giveth, the Lord can taketh back again – or some of it anyway.

Boobies

K skirtsA reasonable 6 skirts, including that of Jaco Zaayman’s on the first which was happily witnessed by at least 12 Tee Setters waiting on the tee box.

Matt Kaempf and Jaroslav shared Most Strokes with 11 while Monster Putter was once again not to be awarded as the high was only 39 putts – and Matt had already done his weekly duty.

More detailed, player by player results of the day here.

Registration – a reminder

Your timely registration is important for us in a number of ways, ways which we shall not bore you with. For these purposes “timely” is meant by 5pm on a Friday. If you meet this deadline then you will be grouped according to your wishes if you have any and you will receive a scorecard with your name and handicap on it.

Should you register after this time then you may or may not receive a scorecard and it may or may not have your handicap on it. Should you fail to register before the deadline and don’t get a scorecard at all – or one without a handicap on it – then it would be best not to complain about it too loudly.

2015 Tee Set Matchplay Championship

The 2015 Matchplay finally got going at Kedaton with the normally chivalrous Tom Grace beating Wina 3 and 2, while the Chris Chan/Paul Taylor match up went to extra time with Chris nicking it at the death an epic putt off after the pair had finished all-square.

Over at Matoa meantime, Joe d’Cruz went 1 up against Jan Janda at Matoa.

Winners go to the Emas bracket, while the losers go into the Kuningan bracket. If it is any consolation to the losers, it is the Kuningan bracket that usually supplies the winner!

The full and final line up (Never say never – ED) of the 46 participants in this year’s matchplay can be seen here. A gentle reminder that these matches must be played no later than 30th April and that results on Tee Set Sundays should be reported immediately to Brenda. If you have your match anywhere else then please report results to matchplay Championship Organiser, Fernando Gaggino.

Someone paid their Matchplay Fee of 100,000 roops at Kedaton and we managed not to make a note of who it was. Everyone claiming it was them should let us know.

Next up

Monthly Medal at Imperial of course. Another fantastic day at our great new home course in store  – and we really, really promise to remember to bring the Closest to the Pin and Long Drive stuff this time – or else we buy EVERYONE a free beer.

All the usual stuff as well of course plus a Slaney’s Meat Voucher and six of Santi’s delicious pies – what more could a weekend hacker ask of a Sunday in Jakarta? Sign up now before it all goes.

Next up: Kedaton, Sunday 22nd March 2015

KedatonKedaton features more water than a stick could sensibly shaken at with the dreaded H2O making its presence felt on fully 17 of its 18 holes.

That said, a very fair challenge and an enjoyable course!

It is also a course measuring a full 6,914 meters at its longest. so maybe it is finally time to wheel out the oft talked of, but seldom (yet?) to be seen, “White tees for all the fellas” option. We will see!

Kedaton used to be something of a trek, located as it is out on the Western flatland fringes of Jakarta, however, the completion of the JORR’s missing link has improved matters tremendously and this what we wrote the last time we were there back in November.

A Tee Set Sunday can have no better start than a fast and trouble-free journey from home to the course and today was to see exactly that – with 25-35 minutes from South Jakarta being reported by almost everyone to what was once the “faraway” Kedaton out on the Merak Tol.

With a relatively early 11am tee of from 1 & 1o you will have a rare opportunity to be back home before dark, though we imagine some will instead see it as an opportunity for a bite to eat and extended post-prandials as usual 🙂

Green fees etc of are a reasonable 650,000 – or a less reasonable 790,000 with shared cart. Sign up here to join in the fun.

Cheers, Tee Set

Pangkalan Jati, Sunday 8th March 2015

view

The Day

PJ statsOnce again it all looked a bit dodgy at 9 o’clock with the rain bucketing down. Right on cue however the clouds cleared, the wet stuff stopped and a record-breaking 52 Tee Setters were all away ahead of schedule on a fast draining course

The PJ starter had a great job of getting our 13 flights away from two tee boxes and earned himself two red bills as a reward for 4 hour or less rounds.

We have had something of a love-hate relationship with Pangkalan Jati over the years and numbers have been as low as 3 players but today the numbers peaked at that highest ever 52.

The reasons for PJ’s popularity are not too difficult to find, being easy on the wallet in all respects, close to home for most and a real challenge in the skill department requiring the deployment of every club in the bag.

After a relatively quiet few weeks we were pleased to see 4 Newcomers up for the challenge today in Donald Haywood, Glen Mayennett, Ralph Sasse and Rusty Witwer. We hoped you all enjoyed your first day with us guys, welcome to Tee Set!

NEWWelcome backers were led by Rob Davies at 45 weeks, rashly attracted by the return of Shane – and Clyde Wickiser at 29 weeks.

Clyde, with his last project completed, now has more time to concentrate on his golf so we may be seeing him a little more often.

PJ is generally considered to have the cheapest and best selection of “previously cherished” balls of any Jakarta course. Might not be unrelated to all those military VIP types playing with brand new balls subsidized by the tax payer.

Load of balls

You won’t see Tom Alcedo’s name down in the results so we have to mention that despite escaping monetary penalties, his 5 shots to get out of a bunker has made an entry into our records 🙂

The play

SKILLS

The aspirations of Simon Reynolds to be a scratch golfer by the time he reaches age 31 is running short on time but nevertheless he still manages to take low gross each week though “only” with an 82 on this occasion.. Keep chipping away Simon because you have the best chance of anyone else in the group to be a scratch golfer.

Grumpy Pirate

The Grumpy Pirate gets his just rewards for once 🙂

Low Net B Grade and overall went to Paul Taylor with a 70, Graham McGeady took Low Net A Grade with a 72 while Jaco Zaayman took C division with a net 72.

Jaco must have one hell of a swing coach because he plays his handicap every week these days. Hard to beat such consistency but Brenda has been informed that handicapping needs some personal attention from time to time.

Matt Kaempf took 1st Par >= 30HC once the scorers worked out which tee box he started from (All are encouraged to read the instructions on the score card about filling out your card occasionally). Shane tried to share in the spoils but his loud protestations about having parred his second were quickly undermined by pulling out a scorecard that revealed it was actually his 3rd hole where he found a par.

BOOBS

The first rule of Tee Set is of course being able to stand unassisted on the first tee box, and has never been a real issue however the second rule about getting past the ladies tee box with each drive continues to be a challenge, with 9 players today falling short in their endeavours. Such occurrences might be stressful for the players but it always puts a smile on the treasurer’s face to see those blue notes coming into the Tee Set coffers.

skirtsThe Newcomers provided welcome cover for a number of old hands by scooping the pool in Monster Putter with Ralph Sasse having to dip his hand in his pocket with a pretty impressive, best of the year, 48.

Happiness is ..... no fine!!

Happiness is ….. no fine!!

For reasons that were not clear at the time, and are even less so now, the 4 Tee Setters sharing Most Strokes on 11 were forgiven by our normally flinty hearted Treasurer. It would not be wise to rely on such largesse every week  however – he was probably a little sated by his skirt takings 🙂

Fuller, player by player results from the day’s play can be found here.

2015 Matchplay

Last chance to join in Tee Set’s 2015 Matchplay Championship is today, anyone who has played at least twice this year but has not registered should already have received their personal invitation. If you want to join in but didn’t get the e-mail then let us know here.

1st round match ups will be published on Thursday and play can take place at any time after that. All participants will receive a briefing pack from Matchplay Organiser, Fernando Gaggino.

Rancamaya Stay & Play

Last year’s stay and play event at Lido Lakes was something of a success and we will be doing something similar this year at the glorious Rancamaya on the weekend of May 9/10.

With scant regard for personal inconvenience, two of your committee played there yesterday and indeed stayed on afterwards at the newly built and contiguous “R” Hotel where they got wined and dined by the management to add to their free round.

Such selflessness is of course the hallmark of our dedicated committee and was well rewarded as the suitability of the whole setup was to be deemed up to scratch for a weekend away for a bunch of Tee Setters, and their families, all hell-bent on fun.

The Rancamaya course itself needs no introduction to Tee Setters of course as it was voted #1 in our poll of courses earlier in the year; 18 holes of paradise, while the hotel is 4 star with excellent facilities and excellent bedrooms. Those facilities include 3 swimming pools, sauna, gym, massage, tennis, bicycles and a kids’ club with all sorts of activities to distract them. All in all a perfect setting for our annual thank you to partners and kids – while you yourself can get a couple of rounds in, on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday starting late morning.

For those who can’t make it for the play on the Saturday afternoon – and the mother of all BBQ parties in the evening, then no problem, just turn up as usual for play on the Sunday morning at around the usual time.

Not one to miss, not least because, rumour has it, that Tee Set will be using its funds (ie your funds) to significantly subsidise the rates for this very special event 🙂

More details in a week or so when the newly appointed organiser of the weekend, Jan Janda, has gotten his feet under the table.

Next up

Kedaton, so much easier to get to these days with the completion of the Western JORR is our destination  next Sunday where we will have an 11am start from 2 tees.

A very attractive course with lots of water and excellent greens, it is also one of the small and diminishing number of courses where walking is possible so don’t miss your chance to “fight the flab” when green fees etc are a reasonable 650,000 – or a less reasonable 790,000 with shared cart.

Sign up here as usual for what is always a fine day out in the east and about as far away from the southern rain centre as you can get.

See ya at Kedaton!! …. Tee Set

And its good night from them after a busy day ...
