Imperial Golf Klub, Sunday 11th January 2015

Imperial Golf ClubA relatively early return on Sunday to what has quickly become a firm Tee Set favourite, Imperial Golf Klub with a K.

An excellent course and great facilities – and a quick and easy journey these days from both south and central Jakarta which, together with excellent staff on and off the course, are clearly responsible for its popularity.

favouritesTo the left is the final out-turn of our recent poll of Tee Setters favourite courses where you will see Imperial in a very solid #2 position just behind Rancamaya – having secured the vote of fully 60% of the membership.

With 35 already signed up for Sunday don’t miss the opportunity to join in with what is highly likely to be another day of fun, hopefully in the sun, by signing up here as usual.

We don’t know what it is about Tee Setters and fitness equipment, but there is more of it for sale this week in our Classifieds Department, this time from Brad Sincock who tells us without a hint of embarrassment that it is in “pristine shape” after 4 years 🙂

See ya at Imperial! … Tee Set

Lotus Lakes Sunday, 4th January 2015

A bridge too far for some?

A bridge too far for some?

The day

A day that dawned overcast and rainy was not an auspicious start to our first return to Lotus Lakes, the former Karawang International.

The major difference from last time we were at Lotus Lakes was the magnificent new clubhouse, a clubhouse not so different to that of Genung Geulis externally – but with a hugely more welcoming, less cathedral-like interior.

The new club house and facilities are excellent and the staff very attentive to our needs, with starter Pak Rokib, who is the ex-operations manager at Matoa doing a fine job getting flights away early – and would have been well rewarded with some red ones had he not disappeared home early.

Following an e-mail warning the previous evening, and eager to get off to an early start and surprised by an excellent run on the Cikampek Toll, 36 Tee Setters mainly arrived well before the scheduled 11:47 start – and with the course quiet, Mark Johnson soon leading the first flight out at around 10:30 and the Bunters, Shenmans and others being waved off soon afterwards.

The Former President of Almost Everything was to arrive with the score cards a little before 11, only to be told that 7 had already started – and not just 7 players, but 7 flights!

The day’s administration was aided greatly by Neil Mullins’ outstanding effort, with paper and pen in hand, as he stood in as assistant Secretary, while the Singing President, the Immediate Past President of Some Things and the Former President of Almost Everything brought up the rear.

Net result was for a quick results turnaround when everyone was finally in, and a timely prize presentation – and a quick getaway for those wishing to miss the returning holiday traffic on the Cikampek Tol.

All up, Tee Setters were to enjoy a fine day, though Bill T was to retire half way, doubtless worn out by the traffic infested 4 hour drive from his home in a faraway kampung to the South! (actually only 90 km – ED)

welcome backsLotus Lakes is a stunning but difficult course with early strong winds adding distance to an already long course – and with the Orchid layout which we played as the second 9 being as good as any in these parts.

Rain threatened all day but luckily held off.

Excellent facilities made the 600k we paid top value and well worth returning to, perhaps next time with everyone off the white tees.

Notable welcome backs were Sam “Kelly” Westen and James Young, whom we were happy to see coming out of hiding to share flashes of brilliance and, in James’ case lift the volume (if not always the tone) of post-match festivities.

Jame’s also excelled himself with his discovery of the bar’s offering of “Blue Lotus Margaritas”  – a drink that will no doubt be enjoyed in far greater quantity next time we play Lotus Lakes, now we know of its availability 🙂

A number of new Taylor Made R11 driver Xmas presents were in evidence most notably that of the Web Guy who is now putting his drives a full 25 metres further into OB.

The play

Mustafa – long and straight all day …..

Skill prizesIn general, scores reflected the challenge of a long and challenging course, the one major exception being evergreen Mustafa who shot a 81 (net 69) to win the major prize, demonstrating that a strong short game is just as important on a long course.

LeonaRegular award winners Jan and Leona featured again – Jan not content with a par for handicap over 30, carded a birdie, and Leona saved the Singing President from the monkey by taking Monster Putter.

Jaco and Chris Lever again took out low net awards for their grades, well done.

BoobiesSkirtsAmong the five skirts, Craig Edwards (heavily disguised in the wig) deserves special mention for an “Air Skirt” on the first tee, his playing partners being not gracious enough to accept it as part of his pre-shot routine – while Leona discovered, as mentioned above, that it is occasionally good to give rather than receive!

Most Strokes on a Hole not awarded due to, erm, administrative challenges.

Your feedback please

Your committee at least tries to always act in the best interests of the membership. It can only do this by listening to what you have to say and never a Sunday passes without “interesting ideas” being “run up the flag pole”.

It is clear that some of the occasionally beer fueled flights of fancy can be discounted out of hand, while some are grand fathered and gleefully taken up, however, some are in-between and a topical case in point is the question of whether we should use the white or “members” tees for some players, based perhaps on grade (C grade is HC >25) and/or age.

We welcome your feedback on the issue by close of play on Wednesday – and will advise the results in our next post.

Next up

Our short but passionate relationship with Imperial Golf Klub with a K continues next weekend having taken the place of Gading Raya in the schedule as a result of the latter’s over ambitious pricing aspirations. Hardly an inferior substitution give Imperial coming runner-up only to Rancamaya in our recent poll of Tee Setters favourite course.

Unless Gading moderates its aspirations for a group of 40-50 players on a late Sunday start then we have undoubtedly played our last round there unfortunately.

Imperial now needs little introduction as we have played there three times in little more than 4 months – and a grand addition to the Tee Set mix it has proven, being an excellent and relatively “Tee Set friendly” course with superb facilities and excellent staff. Add to all this its relatively rain free location and the completion of the JORR making getting there and back a relative breeze, absent “help” from Michael Seabrook that is, and you can expect Imperial to become one of the staples of the Tee Set golfing calendar.

An 11:30 start from two tee boxes as usual with reasonable green fees of just 675,000 including shared cart. Don’t miss the fun, sign up here for Tee Set Sunday.

See ya at Imperial!! … Tee Set

Lovely hole

Lotus Lakes, ah, right …..

Lotus Lakes, Sunday 4th January 2015

ClubhouseThe rather over-ambitious 2015 pricing aspirations of both Gading Raya and Sedana have forced us to change the new year programme before the paint on it was even thinking about drying.

No worries for our VP of Excellent Discounts, however, as he quickly secured Lotus Lakes (formerly Karawang International) for this coming Sunday – and Imperial for the week after, and both at the sort of excellent rates that justify his new moniker.

Those who know them will agree that they are really very superior substitutes.

We have not visited Lotus Lakes since 2013 when what looked like a magnificent new clubhouse, pictured above, was on the verge of completion and therefore a fitting companion to an excellent course.

Located out on the Cikampek Tol, and, happily, as far from the rain prone Bogor courses as we get, Lotus Lakes is a little further than most of our venues but experience shows that the journey is markedly less “macet infested” and therefore faster to get to, and especially back from, than the courses out on the Jagorawi Tol.

Tee off at 11:47 (note the change, hopefully the final one) from 1 & 10, sign up here if you are not one of the 20 who have done so already for what promises to be a Tee Set day of fun in the sun to celebrate the arrival of what will hopefully be a great New Year for Tee Set.

Happy New Year to all – and see ya at Lotus Lakes! …. Tee Set

PS A scouting report from the Singing President who risked a 2 shot penalty to try out Lotus Lakes on your behalf today:

Fine facilities. Outstanding course with chance to take driver to all par 4s and 5s. Par 3s picturesque and challenging with 8th on Orchid course the signature hole. In fact the Orchid course is as good as any top course.

Strategically placed trees will test a few and keep scores up but good players on their day should play under their handicap. Most par 4s longish but par 5s very reachable for A graders.

No spa diversion so everyone should be at presentation. Clubhouse food and service very good. Lockers excellent.

All up we are in for a good day weather permitting. …it’s just started pelting down now.

Monthly Medal, Matoa, 28th December 2014

Room with a viewThe day

Relatively light traffic both ways for the encouragingly high pre-New Year round turnout of 37 Tee Setters provided a solid basis for an enjoyable day at Matoa and the year’s closing Monthly Medal – especially when added to the recent success of remedial work on the course’s long damaged areas twixt fairway and rough.

Despite the absence of all of the Singing President, the Former President of Almost Everything and our lovely secretary, Brenda, things were hardly to miss a beat.

One thing amiss, however, was Matoa’s toilers being unable to locate our banners for both Long Drive and Nearest to the Pin; we have not had too much luck with them over the year as both sets bought and paid for now appear to have grown a set of legs. No matter, the club stepped up to the plate with some substitutes and staff to look after the process.

The only other hiccup was the Web Guy, forced by absences to stand and initially failing to award a couple of the minor prizes. He protested this was due to their presence on the “hidden” second page of the “Skill Prizes” screen. As he wrote the application, this seemed disingenuous at best.

Scorecard minor priesA gentle reminder at this point that we really do not have time to look through everyone’s cards to discover when you might have got your first birdie, eagle, par for HC >30 etc.

If you don’t record the fact in the special little section of the card we thoughtfully provide you with, then no tears when you don’t get a prize.

Remember that the number recorded on the form should be the hole number “as played” and NOT the actual hole number (though it will of course be the same if you start off 1) . As an example, you start on 10 and get a birdie on 13 – you would enter “4” against 1st birdie below “Hole #” and NOT 13.

WELCOME ACKS

One Newcomer to report in the shape of Carolyn and Paul Taylor’s visiting for the holidays son, Leighton. Welcome to Tee Set, Leighton, you know where to find us now.

13 Welcome Backs in a list headed by Debbie Minicola who added a whole new dimension to being late by only joining her group on the 7th hole due to a late business interruption. Full marks to Debbie for carrying on playing on her own for 6 holes to complete her card after everyone else had finished!

The play

Skill

Tom and SimonSimon Reynolds shot the lights out with a career best 71 off the stick to take 42 Stableford points, only to find himself sharing the Monthly Medal with Tom Alcedo who must have been pretty close to his own best ever to match Simon’s 42 points. Brilliant, well done both! In addition to the prize money, one of them will get the Slaney’s meat voucher and the other 6 of Santis’s Premium Pies.

With 2 Monthly Medal winners leaving the field open, Geoff Thompson. Craig Edwards and Carolyn Taylor picked up Low Net in Grades A, B and C respectively – and allowed Mike Garwood to pick up Low Gross in his last game with us before resuming his peregrinations.

chipped in 4 timesAn astonishingly low 23 putts from Geary Bowles was enough to give him Low Putts, though only two ahead of Geoff Thompson on 25 – a number that would have won Geoff the glory in any other week but this.

Harold Hayne took 1st Birdie as Geary was otherwise engaged and Newcomer Leighton was finally awarded Most Improved while his Mum took 1st Pr HC >= 30.

1st Sandy was not to be awarded for the very simple reason that there weren’t any for the first time in living memory 😦

Boobies

A rather paltry 4 skirts and clearly none of them in the least embarrassed about it which rather misses the point, Dede marked her return after medical leave with a modest total of 42 putts to take Monster Putter while Leighton Taylor made his Mum pay for his Most Strokes “award”, an outstanding feat with 13 on just one hole on the front 9, and which set him up nicely for Most Improved on the back.

CraIG

Finally, Special Prizes, where Long Drive went to Steve Hulbert (pictured right providing great support for Craig Edwards Grade B win) for whom this was his swan song before returning to Australia, while Nearest to the Pin went to Simon Reynolds less than a metre away from the hole and playing with Mike Garwood amongst others.

Mike was in fact a trifle unlucky as, following Simon, he dropped his ball directly on top of Simon’s causing his own to fly off into the distance while of course Simon’s was replaced where it lay 🙂

The 2015 schedule

You may already have noticed that we have updated the schedule page for 2015 and, in an unprecedented display of transparency that you should not expect to see oft-repeated, we have exposed some of the thinking behind it.

The principle features are a shift in emphasis to the West to take advantage of the JOOR, and  the de-linking of the general Tee Set programme from the Interleague at Jagorawi, though we will of course continue to support the Interleague through the strong and vigorous participation of our own team of 8 heroes – when we hope to finally realise the dream of punching our weight and winning the bloody thing.

Captain of the Interleague team for 2015 has been confirmed as VP Simon Reynolds; whether you are good or not so good, Simon may be knocking on your door as we like to put out a mixed ability team, not least because a biggish handicap can be a very potent weapon in the hands of someone capable of producing their best on the day.

The Tee Set website in 2014

The friendly folks at WordPress have kindly prepared this statistical summary for us where you will be amazed to see that we have had visitors from 107 countries over the course of the year – and be somewhat bemused by the inclusion of the Sydney Opera House.

Next up

Gading Raya’s kind offer 1 million walking plus extortionate cart fee for next Sunday was an offer we could refuse and, instead, we are off to the renamed but still delightful Karawang International, now “Lotus Lakes”, still out on the Cikampek Tol where the VP of Excellent Discounts has been able to swing us an 11:17 start off two tee boxes for just 600,000 roops including shared buggy. Well done, him, great price for this quality of course so sign up here as usual to take advantage of a price you will never see again.

Have a great New Year … and see ya Lotus Lakes … Tee Set

and the winner is ……

A not uncommon “discussion” on Tee Set Sundays and other occasions where Tee Setters meet is the question of what is the best course we play – or rather, what’s your favourite course?

The factors involved in “favourite” when it comes to courses are of course many fold and include the quality of greens and fairways and indeed the width of those fairways,  the views and general ambiance, the price of drinks, the cuteness of the caddies and of course how easy it is to get to from where you live – amongst many others!

Our poll of Tee Setters did not ask anyone to explain their own decision making criteria, just to tell us their 5 favourites and no more – and here are the unvarnished results:

Favorite coursesWe suspect everyone will find something of interest there and generally something that supports their own views or confirms the craziness of the views of others!

We see the field split into the great, the very good and the merely good, though will continue to visit them all (with the exception of Lido Lakes which is being totally re-modeled) as we attempt to visit as broad a cross section of Jakarta area courses as we can in the course of the year.

The great will be checked to make sure that we have them in the 2015 schedule enough – and we intend to use the 4 Ramadan weekends this year to go for the very best courses, courses that are generally out of our target price range at other times of the year eg Cenkareng, Royale Jakarta and Bogor Raya.

A particular surprise in the results is the low, low ranking of Senayan given it was a huge hit attendance-wise in 2014, we guess its rather cramped par 69 format did not help – or their bar prices.

For once, we would positively encourage any comments you may have!!!

Imperial Golf Klub. Sunday 21st December 2014

Group wavingThe day

A wonderful stress free 25 minute journey from South Jakarta to the delightful Imperial Golf Klub with a K served to get the day off to a great start. It must be said, however, that while the completion of the JORR’s missing Western link has transformed journey times to that side of the city, its surfacing is of a quality sufficiently awful to leave more coffee on your correspondent’s Tee Set shirt front than down his neck by the end of the section.

Our very own registration table, reserved restaurant area and attentive service from waitresses possessed of an ability to maintain individual bills efficiently certainly distinguishes Imperial from the common herd.

We have Imperial down for 3 rounds in 2015, maybe that should be increased; it was difficult if not impossible to find a Tee Setter not enamored of the course and the facilities and service that go with it. Really top course.

Own space

Welcome backs

Just one Newcomer to report in Todd Roesler from Australia, enjoy your golf with us Todd.

More than half our 31 players today were Welcome Backs this week though the longest absentee was Tarun Agarwal at “only” 18 weeks, Welcome Back to all!

With planes recently full of departing Tee Setters,  31 players was a very decent turnout for the pre-Xmas game and compares well with last year’s 21 at Riverside when, in stark contrast to today’s glorious weather conditions, it rained the entire round 🙂

The play

Skill

The first week of our new prize structure, which recognises and rewards low net across the Handicap grades A, B & C, caused rather less than expected confusion.

Mark FOverall Low Net Winner was Mark Fiorello with a fine 79-11-68 while our very excellent policy of nobody being able to win more than one prize meant Anlo took A Grade with a net 72 , that wily old fox Geoff Thwaites took B Grade with 71, though was to be otherwise engaged as the prizes were being given out – while Carolyn Taylor won C Grade by a convincing 3 strokes.

The recently installed Vice President of Good Course Discounts, standing up for  the first time at Tee Set, was a little bemused by all VPthese new developments but was happy to discover he had to give himself a red one for Low Gross off the stick, helped in this by the non-appearance of Sam “Kelly” Westen despite his having signed up. Maybe next week, Sam??

That rare bird, the eagle, made a welcome reappearance with the Grumpy Pirate holing out for three on the green at the long par 5 6th to secure 1st Eagle while Messrs. Murchison and Garwood didn’t hang about so long, taking 1st Birdie and 1st Sandy respectively at their very first hole played.

Newcomer Todd Roesler got used to his hire clubs quickly enough to improve by 8 strokes on his back nine to share Most Improved with Paul Taylor while King Tirto’s par on the 5th was soon enough to take 1st Par HC >=30 – and make him a very happy man.

Boobies

SkirtsA quite outstanding 10 Skirts today was undoubtedly a function of how far forward the red tees were on a significant number of holes, though that factor was definitely not in play as Jess Kindler hit his drive 10 metres left at right angles to the tee box on the 11th. The ball dropped, rather unkindly one felt, just behind one of those large circular concrete bins with sand in.

Undaunted, our hero decided to play it where it lay, only to send his ball, with the help of the concrete bin thing, 30 metres behind the tee box where he was unable to find his ball and dropped another one to find himself lying three and still well behind the tee box. That was also to give Jess a very promising start to securing Most Strokes on a hole with 12 – but maintained a smile throughout the experience. Tee Set spirit it’s called, well done Jess!!

For the second week in a row, just 40 Putts was enough to secure Monster Putter, this time for Tettie, bad luck Tettie.

Fuller player by player details here while more photos of a very fine day will be found on the Tee Set gallery eventually.

Next up

The Web Guy was clearly suffering from a surfeit of “Xmas spirit” in announcing next Sunday as being at Riverside as, of course, it is the last round of the year and the last round of the month and therefore Monthly Medal time at Matoa.

An 11am tee off from 1 and 10 as usual with green fees of just 600,000 including the compulsory shared cart.

With so many out of the country, this gives the stay behinds a much improved chance of glory and getting their name etched onto our beautiful new Monthly Medal Shield – so come and celebrate with us as we close a great year and raise our glasses to the sunlit uplands of Tee Set’s 2015!

Sign up here as usual to join in the fun.

Next up: Imperial Golf Klub, Sunday 21st December 2014

IGC 2An early Xmas present for Tee Setters this week in the shape of Tee Set Sunday at the splendid Imperial Golf Klub with a K out at Lippo Karawaci on the Merak Tol – a relative hop, skip and a jump these days from South Jakarta with the completion of the Western side of the Outer Ring Road (JORR).

Last time out at Imperial in October in the days before Jaco and his new swing coach won Low Net every week, someone who was to become the Singing President took the Blue Ribbon with a net 65 while our new, non-singing vice-President took Low Gross with a 79 off the stick. Coincidence? .. we don’t think so.

Out of respect for the Yuletide spirit, we will providing a Santa hat to the first 30 Tee Setters to show their face at the Klub on the day. Please note that failure to wear your hat at any time during the round wins you an automatic two-shot penalty and probably a fine. Small reward for “snitches” 🙂

The Former President of Almost Everything is out-of country but his spirit lingers on as his parting shot was a stern reminder for everyone to return their hats to Brenda at the end of the day; he said we’re not made of money and can use them again next year. That’s why he is the Treasurer we guess.

Tee off from 1 & 10 will be at the engagingly precise 11:47 after having paid your green fees etc of 675,000 including cart, for the refreshingly easy on the dompet sum of 675,000 roops, and of course partaken of a hearty breakfast.

If you haven’t done so already then sign up here as usual for what promises to be a great day on a great course. Ho, ho, ho.

Prizes

A search of the Tee Set Towers attic the other day revealed a file with the label, “Prizes”. Covered in a good half an inch of dust, the dust itself and indeed the contents of the file reminded us that we had changed exactly nothing on the prize list since the radical introduction of Most Improved back in 1873.

To prove we are a dynamic, radical, change oriented bunch on the committee, we have decided to change the prize structure just a tad, bringing in additional Low Net prizes every week for each of Grade A, B and C players. This will cost us an extra 300,000 roops a week but, in view of the bigger fields we have these days, we were eventually able to convince the invariably tight-fisted Treasurer that it was a fair thing. Took a while.

To give you a better idea of what we mean, this is how things would have looked if we had implemented  the thing a week earlier, at PJ.

Net winners - grades

Under the new scheme, the Grumpy Pirate, Norman Bunter and Steve Hulbert would all have been awarded prizes for Low Net instead of just Jaco. Bad luck, you three 🙂

What’s a Grade? … excellent question, thank you for asking. You may not have known it but each Tee Setter is put into one of three “Grades” A, B and C roughly according to where their home course handicap (Matoa for these purposes) falls in the following ranges:

Grades

We have to say that the Grades are pretty rough, at least at the margins, and, having much better things to do with our time, we have absolutely no intention of keeping them up-to-date every week so don’t bother complaining if you are a 16 handicap at a difficult course this week and argue that should be in B and not A – as we will ignore you.

If however you think that your Grade is significantly out of whack, then let a member of the Committee know and it will be sorted. In future (well, when the Web Guy gets around to changing the report anyway) your Grade will be on the confirmation e-mail we send out to registered players each Saturday morning

Please note that on the matter of Grades and even more so, Handicaps, you really must not bring up any related issues with the Secretary, it is NOT her job or within her knowledge set, and most certainly not what we pay her for; you must talk to a committee member.

Failure to observe this requirement results in one of those automatic 2-shot penalty things and very likely a row from the FPoAE. We have a golden asset in our secretary who does it more for the love than the money and would most certainly not wish to lose her as a result of being upset by lack of civility and/or ignorance of her limited responsibilities.

You may have noted that the table only indicates an upper limit of 36 and this is for the very good reason that the new brooms have decided it will be so – ie the maximum handicap, for both men and ladies, will in future be restricted to 36.

Anyway we are about fun and not rules, even though they are a necessary evil, so let’s just do it – and see ya at Imperial!!! ….. Tee Set

IGC 1

Looking forward to it???

Pangkalan Jati, Sunday December 14 2014

No photos today as a result of missing files, operating system failures, intercontinental travel and the new Maritime Axis.

Maybe we will catch up with a few on Thursday 🙂

The day An easy journey to the course for most on a very fine morning, only to find an overflowing car park due to a tournament in the morning, and the knock on effect of the congestion caused a slightly late getaway – and a relatively slow round of 5 hours.

Two Newcomers to report this week in Cyril Blyth and Don Williams, welcome both, enjoy your golf with Tee Set. Welcome backs

The Welcome Backs were not terribly numerous either as most of our number had at least played the Championship a couple of weeks ago and Laurie O’Connor was to convincingly take the honours with loose change short of two years. Welcome back all!

A slow round can generally be lived with, at least with the aid of a sociable can or two with your mates, however, beers of any kind were not to be found in any of the on-course kiosks today.

The club management really needs to get its act together if they want us back on a regular basis; some things can be forgiven but depleted beer stocks is not amongst their number.

Fortunately, and in stark contrast, copious amounts of the amber neck fluid were available after the game from the post-Tee Set Championship stock as part of the send off for long standing member Mel Meeds.

Mel is of course returning to Brisbane shortly to help the Queensland rugby league team win back the State of Origin from the despicable NSW cockroaches. With Australian Customs & Excise forbidding him from importing more then two bottles of grog, Tee Set was implored to help finish off the remnants of his liquor cabinet and being ever helpful sorts, Tee Setters being real helpful sort of folks did the needful – and there may very well be a few sore heads in the office on Monday as a result.

Last round for George Bevege also as he leaves us to return to Australia. Apparently his company had to cut back on staff after their pie baking business took a hit from new local competition (and that may very well be Ric’s last joke).

George’s resilience in the face of abuse and adversity will be sorely missed – while his propensity for winning golfing bets on his own game may not be, at least by some!

Bill Lloyd of Tee Set Gold Sponsor, Asian Tigers Mobility, is interviewed in the December issue of Indonesia Expat and his views of, and experiences in, Indonesia over the last 12 years makes for an interesting  and entertaining read, and this even though he disloyally failed to mention Tee Set even once!! Check it out here.

Finally, and in a word to the wise, Taylor Made outlets in Jakarta are selling off R11 and R1 drivers at the give away price of Rp990K. Both the Former President of Most Things and Geoff Thompson bought the R1 and smoked plenty of drives last Sunday.

The advertisement in the Jakarta Post mentioned outlets selling them are at Bintaro Jaya X Change Mall, Mall Kota Kasablanca, Gading Mas driving range Kelapa Gading, Sports Warehouse Poins Square and Kuningan City, and Pasar Raya in Blok M.

The play

Winners Jaco Zaayman scorched the field for the third week in a row to secure Low Net for the third Sunday, this time  with”only” a six under handicap 66. It is clear that the handicap committee is falling down on the job here, come on guys, do the thing you get paid the big bucks for!!

Having to get up before ten in the morning appears to have done no harm at all to Neil Mullins game as he shot 79 off the stick to take Low Gross again, though he can expect more competition for the nest one next week as you will read below.

Most of note amongst the minor prizes was 22-week Welcome Back Christian Engstrom managing to shake off the rust on his back 9 with a stunning 48-37-85 to take Most Improved with 11.

Boobies Newcomer Cyril Blyth wasted no time in getting acquainted with the feel of our Skirt and wig while Nicky Moir was delighted to get re-acquainted with his old friend the skirt during the last Sunday of his brief visit from the frozen wastelands of Aberdeen.

40 putts on a Sunday will normally see you well out of Monster Putter range and in fact just one lower has been known to be forgiven by your beneficent Treasurer in the past. Bad luck, Jess!

Magnificent revenue generating 5-way tie for Most Strokes, again just a humble 10 which you would you getting away with most weeks in the hunt for the coveted Most Strokes. many thanks to all for your contributions.

Fuller, player by player results here.

A Yuletide Message from the Immediate Past President of Some Things

Tee Setters,

Unfortunately my schedule has not allowed me to make a Sunday since the Championship, and it looks like I will not make one until 4th Jan.

I would like to thank Ric, Keith, Brenda and Wina for all their work during the year and especially on Championship day. It was a truly successful and very enjoyable day.

Congratulations to Jaco, the 2014 Tee Set Champion. All the best to the incoming Presidential team, President Craig and Vice President Simon for the 2015 Tee Set year.

Here is wishing all a great Christmas and a very happy and successful new year.

Peter

Next up

A great early Xmas treat is in store for those who haven’t departed for Xmas “di luar kota” this year – a round at the superb Imperial Golf Klub with a K which, to add to all its other charms, is now a fast and pleasant 30-40 minute Sunday morning drive from the south using the now complete Jakarta Outer Ring Road  or JORR.

It was from this course on our last visit that Michael Seabrook astonished many with an amazing feat of mis-navigation that rendered half the Tee Set field that day bewildered and scattered over parts of Western Tangerang that are undoubtedly best left unvisited – and was to make him undisputed winner of this year’s Vasco da Garma trophy.

Should Michael offer to show you a “quick way home” on Sunday you might be best advised to protest a prior engagement in the Pluit or Ancol areas or somewhere North like that. Just don’t tell us you were not warned.

“Has any one here seen Kelly?” is an old music hall favourite and was recently applied to top Tee Set golfer Sam “Kelly” Westen as he disappeared off the face of the earth for months, with hide nor hair see of him since 21st September when he shot a fine 37-37-74 at Jagorawi of all places, before doing the disappearing act that engendered his new moniker.

Happy to report now that the Singing President has exchanged SMSs with Sam in the last few days and “Kelly” is likely to return to Tee Set action at Imperial when we hope to discover what he has been up to 🙂

Green fees including shared cart, a Santa Klaus hat and an autographed photo of Sam for the fist 30 to register will set you back just 675,000 roops which, as anyone who has played there will tell you, is outstanding value for a course of such a high standard as Imperial.

Tee time will at the unbelievably precise time, for Jakarta, of 11:47 – when we will launch from 2 tee boxes. Get signed up here to join in the fun of what is certain to be another great Tee Set Sunday.

See ya at Imperial! … Tee Set

Next up: Pangkalan Jati, Sunday 14th December 2014

Pangkalan JatiBack to our old home course on Sunday, Pangkalan Jati, where on our last visit in October, at Idul Adha, we got off early and around in 3.5 hours or less. No promises for this time of course but we would certainly not recommend cutting your arrival time too finely, Wina.

For reasons that were not clear then, and are even less clear now, our October visit saw an unusually large crop of skirts, eight in total. Don’t say you have not been warned.

An 11:00 am scheduled start off two tee boxes as ever, and green fees of 500,000 with shared buggy or 100,000 less if you are walking.

Nearly 30 already signed up so it is looking like a lot of people are anxious to see Mel “Cockroach” Meeds off the premises, with the added encouragement of the Former Past President of Everything promising to bring some of the significant stocks of liquid refreshment left over from the Championship for our enjoyment after the game – but no Margaritas unfortunately.

Sign up here to join the fun if you haven’t already.

See ya at PJ!! …. Tee Set

PS your new committee met for the first time on Tuesday evening and, before being thrown out late on for rowdy behaviour, made some important decisions about the shape of things to come in 2015.

We didn’t try to fix what is clearly not broken but there will be some  significant “fine tuning” as a result of listening to the vox populi – and we will be relaying them just as we have sorted out the details.

PPS The man with more farewells than Frank Sinatra, George “Pulpy” Bevege, will also be playing what he describes as “the last for some time, mate”, so Ric has doubled the beer order for Su
