The Day
Tee Set’s 2nd Annual World Cup of golf kicked off last Sunday with 40 Tee Setters and their guests heading out in the 2-person better ball games to represent their respective country teams. The event is an opportunity to play a different format than the usual Tee Set Sundays as well as to welcome some guests who are not Tee Set regulars.
This year’s event is being held at Cengkareng where we received our usual warm welcome and hospitality. It was also a opportunity for most of the players to see the new holes which opened after our last visit for Battle Royale.
As usual, several teams got into the spirit of the day and got themselves dressed up in team colours.
Athough the round was a little slow due to heavy traffic on the course, the weather was kind to us which made for the usual pleasant walk around the course and afterwards we were able to relax over a cool margarita or poison of choice whilst Brenda and Ric sorted out the scores and winners on the day. This being made a little more complicated by the fact we discovered the actual layout by holes was not the same as our reference score card.
The Play
Teams were organized in matches against each other and these were competitive but for fun only. As the event is organized over 2 week-ends with next week’s results being added to this week’s scores we recognized only the top scores for the day.
4 teams scored an impressive 43 points on the better ball format including both Srikandi teams but they were beaten by the UK pairing of Frank Wilson and Divya Prakash who scored 46 points. However top team of the day was the Srikandi2 pairing of Santi Miller and Yuli Gaugil who recorded an impressive 49 points for their team.
Combined with the other pairing of Srikandi2’s 43 points this puts them in first place on 92 points followed by Srikandi on 86 points and UK on 82 points.
The team ranking in reverse order is list left and there is all to play for in the final round of singles to be played this week. See below to sign up.
Results for day by player and the inter-team games are here and there were plenty of photos taken on the day which you can peruse here.
A big thank you to Ric and Brenda for sorting out the organization and scoring on the day.
Next Up: Cengkareng World Cup Round 2
On 15th October we will return to Cengkareng for the final round of the World Cup event. Each player will play as a single scoring under the stableford system and the top 3 players for each team will have their score added to the above team scores to determine the winners of the World Cup event.
All players should please sign up as usual to confirm they can play.
Important note: Sunday’s event is open to all Tee Setters whether they play in the World Cup event or not. Should some teams be short a player, we will provide some fill ins from the spare players and for those not participating in the World Cup, President Roger Finnie will host a small side competition.
Whether you are playing in the World Cup event or just wish to enjoy the new Cengkareng layout please sign up here as usual. Tee time will be 12pm or very close thereto so please arrive in plenty of time for us to sort out the playing order.
