The Day

As some wondered what would happen after Thursday’s attacks in Jakarta, Tee Set continued its great tradition of never missing a weekend in over 32 years, with an impressive 48 having a great Sunday outdoors.

Thanks to Ivan for the highly appropriate cartoon – and the highly inappropriate after match joke, which cannot be shared, but which still has us smiling.  Good luck with the diet mate!

Matoa again produced excellent value at 600k including cart and great facilities.  It started off stinking hot, punishing those of us recovering from too many the night(s) before, but then came the welcome breeze, the rain and just enough lightning to get us all moving a bit faster.  The greens were much slower than last week which tricked a number of us early on and the bunkers were brutal, but overall the course is in excellent condition.  Another good turnout of women with 10, expecting more next week at Senayan!

As usual, a great after match gathering thanks to Matoa’s hospitality, an earlier than normal finish and apparently good coverage for the Tee Set internet generation……sorry guys we don’t post until Monday afternoon….

The Play

The blistering form of the championships was not repeated but there were a number of strong sub par rounds carded.  Axel had a fine day out heading the winner tables in four categories, but eligible for one prize only, that being the most prestigious prize of Low Net A Grade with a 70.  Santi maintained her good form winning Low Gross with 85.  Slight glich meant that Barbora’s 86 round and 88s from Daniel and Mark are not in the table above so are acknowledged here instead. Keith also had a great round of 88 to win Low B Grade with a net 69, pictured here with Santi, because his individual shot was, like Keith later in the afternoon, a little blurry.

Its never a problem getting Malty to participate in ceremonies, but he well and truly earned it this week with an excellent comeback round of 67 net. In the skill prizes, James won low putts (28) no doubt due to the intensive pre-match chipping practice to get ’em close, narrowly edging out Mick.

Not to worry, Mick picked up first birdie and Jaturoporn (Bas for short) took no time in claiming first par over 30 handicap on the first hole.

Most improved was shared between three today and most strokes on a hole (sorry we fine for that) was shared among 6 wayward but honest Tee Setters with 10 strokes (5 pictured here).

With sponsorship down this year, the Treasurer is going to be extra tough, but fair, as wife Liz contributed from the household budget to both most strokes and Monster Putter with 40 putts….we may have kept it at one fine…to be nice.

And now….in case you thought we forgot….the skirts…a paltry 3 skirts.  Mike swears that his was a “muscular skirt” coined at Senayan a couple of years ago for Sam “where’s Sam?” Westen to justify his first and only skirt after ricocheting off a tree a long way out and coming back to the ladies tee…..Mike with a matching shirt and skirt like that, you don’t need to justify anything 🙂

And what a great combination with Bob coming back after over a year and Andreas making the wig his own….and looking like a rock star in the making!

2016 Tee Set Match Play

The start of the Tee Set Matchplay on 7 February was announced, with registrations now open and the draw taking place at Imperial on 31st January.  Register and read all the rules here.

Next Up

As announced last week Senayan National is booked for Sunday 24th January, tee off at 12.30pm, green fees of 850k. Register here as usual.

After a certain amount of fleet-footed reorganisation by Tee Set schedule organiser Wina, we are at Matoa Nasional on Sunday with an 11am kick-off from tee boxes 1 and 10.

Green fees of around 650,000 with shared buggy if memory serves, though they may have increased that for 2016. Sign up here if you haven’t already for a bit of early practice on what will undoubtedly be this year’s Championship course 🙂

Matchplay

And it is that time of year again and the moment to kick off Tee Set’s ever popular Matchplay Championship. After two years of being organised by El Guapo (many thanks, Guap0!), the poisoned chalice has been passed on to James Ross who is looking like being even tougher on enforcement than the previous gun slinger. For those with nothing better to do you will find more info about the event here.

The draw for the competition will be held at Imperial on 31st January and the first matches will start the following Sunday, 7th February.

Upcoming Highlights

Next week 24th January, our ever hard bargaining schedule organiser Wina has secured us a round at Senayan National at green fees of 850,000Rp and a 12.30 tee time. There will be no problem reaching our 25 minimum numbers, but given the tee time, we will be arranging flights so please register early next week to secure an early flight and avoid a twilight finish.

And the following week, the 31st January, will be the Monthly Medal at Imperial  where the winner will be presented with a pair of free tickets to the UB40 concert at the Istora Senayan on Thursday 1st April – and no, it isn’t an April Fools joke. Many thanks to KK for this thoughtful gesture! For those fans who are not so confident of a medal victory you can book online here.  We will be announcing the 2nd Eclectic Champion and drawing the matchplay so should be a big day!
