The Day
The chaos that was the Cirendeu road on Wednesday was transformed by today to no more than a little untidiness with its major diversion removed and no more than a 100 meter section not finished.
Happily all those taking any one of the three routes on offer were to have a smooth journey with only one exception, Billy Lloyd, who was to bitterly complain of a terrible journey. One wag suggested that the most likely cause was in fact his car being unable to cope with the vast quantities of stubbies on board. I guess we will never know the real reason.
Blue skies, a temperature as high as any in 2015, an empty course in tip-top condition and an early start were to be the reward for the 23 Tee Setters who made it to the first round of 2016 – most made it around in less than 4 hours with players able to take a late postprandial beer or two and still leave well before darkness fell. That doesn’t happen every Sunday.
In a development not seen for many a long day we were to have NO Newcomers today, while Richard Bolton comfortably managed longest Welcome Back at 28 weeks. It showed, Richard!
The immediate past committee member for Web Affairs managed to take out one caddy when his cart hit a drainage cover with its angle tilted up – in the light rough causing the cart to jump two feet in the air, and not long after scared the bejeezus out of a couple more of them with a most vicious duck hook as they idled under the shade of tree 50 meters in front of the tee. Not a great day for caddies.
Many thanks to Santi for showing up to help with the scoring after the game – and this despite an injured toe 🙂
The Play

Playing her very best round for a long time Wina came home with an excellent net 65 in the the best result of the day and B Grade and a rather high net 78 was good enough, in the absence of the superstars, to see Axel win Grade A while Arthur Mallari may see himself up a grade next week in taking Grade C with a net 66! Well done to them all.
As he still hasn’t a handicap, our visitor from Kiwiland, Dominic May, took the only major prize open to him with an 85 off the stick, and if Brenda gets the scorecard backlog into the system this week he should have a handicap for next week. Grade A in case you were wondering, Dominic.
The usual shuffling around of prizes to ensure nobody is able to retire on the sums involved meant that Keith won Low Putts. Peter Bush took 1st Birdy (on the 1st) and Stuart Walker the 1st Sandy on the 17th.
Michael Seabrook’s 13 improvement on the back 9 was quite unchallenged while Reka’s par at the 8th hole put her in the money. Again 🙂
A healthy 6 skirts “awarded” on the day, 33% of the qualifying field so well done to them all.

Given the choice of monkey masks, the winner this week demanded the one that provides full anonymity – so well done Teddy (Ragg).
The distinction of Most Strokes was shared by Mike Sperry and Peter Bush with Peter’s impressive score being largely the results of some very wild slashes putting his ball out bounds on at least 2 occasions – and there may even have been a water ball in that lot, your scribe’s eyes were watering over by that stage.
More detailed player by player results here while all the prize winners and more can be seen on our photo gallery.
Next up
A very special early in the year treat for you next Sunday with our first ever visit to the legendary Cengkareng Golf Club out on the airport jalan tol. A breeze to get to from South Jakarta on a Sunday morning these days with the Tee Setter’s best friend, the JORR, in operation.
Green fees of a very attractive 750,000 for this walking only course and with a start from at least 2 tees – though we hope for more. Whatever the arrangements we will tee off starting at 12 noon.
Getting there in plenty of time is highly recommended so that we can get a big field of 16 flights put together – and you can benefit from what is alleged to be the best golf course kitchen in the whole of Indonesia -and maybe even an early heart starter with the club’s signature drink being the frozen Margarita 🙂
Signing up early is also highly recommended as we are restricted to those 16 flights we mentioned. No tears.
See ya at Cengkareng! …. Tee Set
If you haven’t already done so then

MC-ing and scoring after play for the first time in a long time was the former Committee Member with Special Responsibilities for Web Stuff – ably assisted in the scoring by his wife Mrs Pie; many thanks to them both, especially the latter for sorting out Joe Alci who has never really got the hang of the scoring sheet 🙂
Runaway Medal winner was Jaco Zaayman with a near unbelievable net 57 from an 83 off the stick combined with a 26 Handicap – with the former also good enough for Low Gross. The attention of the Handicap Committee cannot be far behind 🙂
A somewhat disappointing 4 skirts only, this on a course that generally offers up a rather better skirt ratio – and a Monster Putter of a miserable non-fine bearing 39 – though some small consolation for the absent treasurer in Most Strokes on a hole being shared at 11 by both James Ross and Craig Edwards. Thanks guys.
Monthly Medal time of course and if you haven’t yet got your name on the trophy then this is as good a time to try as any as there are generally plenty of Tee Setters missing at this time of the year.
Sunday also sees the last round of our 2nd Eclectic and a chance to get your name on the Singing President’s gargantuan trophy currently in the hands of Jan Jelinek. winner of the 1st Eclectic.

Splendid day for the Millers as they took out Low Net for both A and B Grade while Reka Romango ran away with C Grade with a net 65. We are going to put a marker in the Millers’ cart next time 🙂
A fine crop of 7 skirts will please the absent Treasurer, though he will be less pleased to see that, with Monster Putter at only 39, there will be nothing coming his way from that direction.
While the full 2016 schedule can best still be described as a “work-in-progress” we do have some very exciting news for you on that front – on 10th January we will be playing

Yep, Mel also picked up First Par for Over 30 handicap and won Low Net C Grade with one of his best Tee Set rounds of 63…although on review a handicap of 43 may have helped…back to Committee to check the maximum handicap rules. Neil had back to back Low Net A grade wins with 67 and Mark again put on a fine display of golf to win Low Gross with 78, which could have been much lower after a 35 on the front nine. The round of the day though was from Glenn with a blistering 60…great effort!

Just in case you haven’t had enough fun for the year, we decided to get together with our friends at DOGS on Sunday to play the inaugural DOGS versus Tee Set Charity Team Event for HOGS.
