The course famous for the Madonna hole and for kids of the owner pinching bits of the course to build moats around their homes. This was the course that TeeSetters played last Sunday. It is a course that barely has a flat spot to place your feet on the fairways. Teletubbyesque mounds are everywhere and the greens have a fair bit of break in them. It was also a week where the President set a 14km hash trail on the Saturday and come Sunday was so sore golf was out of the question. We are not getting any younger my friends.

The Italian domination of TeeSet 2023 continues with Alessandro scoring 41 points and taking the chocolates last Sunday. Well done.

On On

The President (Time is fleeting)

36 TeeSetters arrived at Gading Jaya to the soothing sounds of jackhammers. The men were given the privilege of being allowed into the ladies locker room, whilst the ladies were pointed in the direction of a shed on the ground floor. Seems golf is a male privileged sport. I am currently penning a damning letter to Gading Management, the beer needs to be colder, and the restaurant trolley wheels make a horrible noise.

There were some late rearrangements on the scheduled flights due to a few late registering players but all was sorted by the time I arrived. The morning was quite warm and humid and the starter had us teeing off at exactly 11.30. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were not simple if you had landed your ball on the wrong part of the green, in my case that means anywhere from 15cm outside the big circle surrounding the cup. Speaking of that circle our group found it a bit distracting, in that we seemed to be putting for the circle and not the cup. Anyways Bob Fleishman had a reasonable day with the flat stick in our group getting it into that big circle most times.

The Caddie Whisperer was on a mission to drink the club out of wine and he managed this with a little help from his group and a group of passing lady golfers.

It didn’t seem to affect their golf, as usual they were outside the winner categories. But hey, better drinking red than dead.

The first 9 was played at a nice pace, as the day started to cool the Club Management thoughtfully added 3 or 4 flights on the turn so we would have plenty of time to have another red wine or an Anker or puff on a fag. So we were all well rested by the start of the second nine with a potential of rain in the distance. Despite the extra groups being jammed in on both nines all golfers were back well before the lights went out.

A hint of frustration was creeping into the President’s game as he could not put two reasonable shots together and was stuck in double bogey land. Not a pleasant place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Hitoshi pointed out to the President that it is unnecessary to be taking so many shots in a bunker. The President will be pointing Hitoshi to the last flight next Sunday. Has this power trip got to my head? I certainly hope so. Speaking of Hitoshi he nailed 4 birdies for the day I saw him nail a drive down the wrong fairway, hence his comments about my bunker play.

On to the winners

The 4 putters of the apocalypse. Albert, Jude, Sami & Hitoshi all managed 30 with the flat stick. You could smell Sami’s socks from the ladies change rooms, I was told.

By the time The President departed the wine whisky and beers were flowing and the usual dehydrated golfers were being re-hydrated. A good day was had by all. Especially Tom who made a wonderful comeback after a bit of a dodgy round on the previous Friday a 30 shot improvement that barely moved his handicap.

IMPERIAL LIPPO KARAWACI 9TH OF JULY

Many Teesetters enjoy the challenge of this residential complex course. Now that my slice has been replaced with an occasional hook some of the residents are not so happy as I pass by. Noted for an array of unique holes and undulating fairways this course offers a challenge many teesetters look forward to. The food and drink menu is second to none and with easy access from Jakarta it will be a popular destination this Sunday. To avoid disappointment book now on MyGolf2U.

The President (time served a bit more than last week)

A big mob of TeeSetters headed out to Cengkerang last Sunday to contest the Kojo Monthly Medal. The President meanwhile lazed around the pool at home and had a quiet pleasant Sunday. Which may have led to some pretty good scores being carded. While the Presidents away, good golf is what we’ll play. A big thanks to Bill Lloyd for MCing the apres golf events.

The big mob got away off tee boxes 1 and 10 and all managed to make it home before the lights went out. A couple of Match Play comps were completed that day with Bags having the wood over Large Craig and JIL Match Play Captain, Dean, getting the job done on Mark Johnson. JIL have their next match on the 16th of July at Pondok Cabe please let the Team Captain know if you are available to compete for the mighty TeeSetters.

The wife of the President arrived home at 10.30 that night saying everyone had behaved themselves and all were sober on departure.

The President (20 weeks)

Definitely the President’s favorite hole nice and straight not much danger to think about. The 12th on the New Course

Jakarta Interleague is that time of the month when things go a little weird. Your TeeSet buddies are now Sandbraggers, Tin Sheds or Sharks all a bit confusing so I go and play with Pocksia on these occasions. Leaving TeeSet in the large and capable hands of TS Interleague captain, Dean Merriless. Dean’s job is to recruit 8 players and some weeks it proves difficult. He should take a leaf out of Putin’s search for recruits, the prisons are a good option. Anyways a strong team was put together and narrowly lost to the Cloggys. Thanks a lot team, and we are sure to finish the season strongly after Pocksia knocked the Poodles out of their kennel, making the road to the Cup just that little bit easier for the TeeSet Team. Self-belief, practise and a good foot wedge and the Cup will be ours.

TeeSet Match Play Championship

This weekend is the last round to play your matches so please organise with the person you are scheduled to play and let Adhe or Roger know that you are playing so pairings can be managed for Sunday at Cengkerang. Which is also the monthly medal which is played off the blues for men and reds for the ladies.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door, you probably need a golf cart. Carts are limited at Cengkerang, so please coordinate with Adhe to secure one well before Sunday or it’s off to Ellis Island for you.

Get to the course early to ensure we have a fast start. Please note your speed of play, this is a walking course and people having fifteen practise swings and waiting for tectonic plates to move before they putt just means we are likely to come home in the dark. When I say “we” I should probably say YOU as I am the President and I always get a good slot.

There is an opportunity for you also to become the TeeSet President in about 22 weeks time. Perks of the job includes allocated club parking area, good tee times, 10% off your second MacD breakfast order, respect throughout the Expatriate community and everybody calling you Mr President because they can’t remember your name. So why not toss your hat in the ring when the next opportunity arises.

The President (What’s his name, 22 weeks)

Golf is a passion, not some cold hearted, spreadsheet dominated rational exercise.
 
On a Friday, you want irrational reaction. You want emotion to trump reason.
 
What you really want is idiotic hysteria.
 
You’ve come to the right place as we run down the World Cup, the day that was.

115 players ventured into the lovely golf club at Riverside 24 players went home with tin grins after picking up a trophy for doing better than the losers. Many more golfers won lucky draw prizes which if that was all that they won was a true measure of their golfing abilities. Other golfers won pure arse skill prizes for once in a lifetime shots at a thin rope, a long drive, or being very close to the hole. The biggest scam of the day was best dressed taken out by the Australian Team, it pays to be President.

The day started early for the President and even earlier for the Club Secretary, Adhe. The President was there early getting the beer on ice and the water cooled down before the event started. It seems everyone got at least one visit from the beer vans. As the evening went on the President discovered groups of beer hoarders had been at work during the round. The idea was take one drink and let the cart move on, but no that was too difficult for some greedy golfers out there. Anyway once again it was good to be President, but not a greedy President. Beer being supplied during the round needs some thinking to ensure that we get it right next time.

Over 20 nations were represented in this years Cup spread over 19 teams leading it to be the biggest World Cup yet. A big thank you to Riverside for herding 115 stray teeset cats onto the course at the prescribed time. The morning golfers were a bit slow, so after a short delay sorting caddies and we were away. The course was in great condition and the greens had a few tricky pin placements. The President felt some of the tree placements were also a bit dodgy and some of the ravines could have been moved. Reports were coming in that eagles were being scored with gay abandon (please note the original meaning of gay as an adjective), birdies were coming thick and fast and swearing by the President subdued due to being in the presence of a lady. Golfers pretty much got around in regulation time and the format was a winner.

The presentations/lucky draw were started so we could get home earlyish or in some cases get seriously hammered. It was noted that there were several tables that were there for the booze more so than the golf. Seriously hammered tables included the Rosie/Sarah table any table Hitoshi visited, Min/David table and definitely the Philippines were drinking for the country’s pride. The Italians couldn’t handle the pressure and went home. The French slow wilted under pressure and lost team members. The Finns had heaps and were off to Loewys to have heaps more. Back to the prizes the President’s cries for more beer went unnoticed so frequent stops were needed to keep the president hydrated. But eventually we got there. A huge thanks to Craig and Roger who spent ages inputting the team scores. Its people doing these thankless tasks that make events such as these so successful. Thanks fellas. Looks like they were well nourished and watered.

Adrian Brink a keen Teesetter whilst in Indonesia is moving on to Portugal. So if you happen to be in the Lisbon area look him up. He was handing back wine in favour of balls during the prize giving. Wine’s cheap there. Also great thanks to Peng and Amel at Riverside for once again making thing go as smoothly as possible during the day.

There were a couple of bottles of wine left on the presentation table, one being the Presidents, which mysteriously disappeared. No matter security footage has been handed over to be Brimob for closer assessment who will be handling the issue from here. Also a couple of TeeSetters forgot to pay their bills on leaving this is a gentle reminder to pay them or Brimob may be visiting you also.

So from the fog of war a hero emerges from an alcoholic fog emerges this late, poorly construed and grammatically challenged report.

The President (24 weeks)

A small band of intrepid golfers headed off to the picturesque course of Gunung Geulis in the foothills surrounding Bogor. Much has said about this course and there is naff all I can add as I wasn’t there. The President had a day off, spent on the couch watching 36 adult men charging around an oval chasing a pigskin. A lot more relaxing than watching a field of professional golfers spanking whitey in some professional golf tournament. The good news where once there were 3 major tours chasing TV viewers it is now down to 2 as PGA caves in to the Saudi dollar. Norman did a better job than Kerry Packer did with the ICC in bringing the PGA to its knees in record time.

The last time I watched professional golf on TV was when Jeff Beck was playing and we all know Beck is a guitarist. But I am a avid user of YouTube for skill tips as they only take a few minutes then you know extactly what ya need to do. Ok enough filler for a week when I was away into the photos and let’s find out who took the lolly home.

TEESET WORLD CUP OF GOLF SUNDAY 11th

29 teams are listed to play this Sunday and 28 teams will go home having failed to climb Indonesia’s social golf’s Everest. One team will earn the respect of the International golfing community, that is TeeSet. For a year women or men or whatever you identify as will admire that foursome. Actually no they won’t but twill have won some nice booty.

Sunday tee off time is a 12.30 shotgun. See team list and starting holes below

Registration finishes at 11.30 so don’t be late

4 novelty holes where lovely wines are there for the skilled all lucky. Nearest the line (men, women) Longest Drive (men, women) 2 nearest the pin.

Departure to buggies 12pm sharp, ice cold water will be available to golfers in the Starter area. Further beer, water and some soft drinks will be delivered by cart during the round. Don’t hog the beer.

A steamy hot day greeted the golfers at Cengkerang as they prepared to contest the Monthly Medal. A blazing hangover is what greeted the President that Sunday morning, but after a Coke and a smoke I was ready to go. To the Emergency Room for some magic from the medics but facing up to my duty as President I stumbled over to Tee Box 1 and slammed it straight into the trees. Luckily the tree monkeys I had paid prior to the start managed to get my ball back onto the fairway on the first 3 holes. The 3rd also has water and fish are just dumb when it comes to returning balls. Anyway enough of my misery let’s look at some joyous moments from others last Sunday.

Ezra dressed in his Sunday bests was happy to pick up his first monthly medal. We down with a net 71 on the day.

NOW TO THE NOVELTIES

Simon with a big swing sent the ball 235 metres down the 18th to take the long drive. Well done.

April took Long Drive for the ladies with a drive that was not as long as Simon’s. Well done April.

Sami was on the wrong fairway for the long drive comp last Sunday but with a 265 cm onto the par 3 green he took the flamingos for NTP.

Richard and Nicolas shared the lollies with low putts both managing a low 28 with the flat stick. Practise gets you the score.

TeeSet World Cup

The big day is just 2 Sundays away. Teams have been priming their nuclear arsenals and uniforms are being busily hand stitched for perfection by the seamstresses of Blok M. What follows is some important information for the format of the day.

On arrival the restaurant will provide a full menu please settle your bill before start of play

11.30 players need to be already registered

12pm Parade of Nations ( to access best dressed) teams proceed to Starting point

It will be a shotgun start off 15 holes at 12.15 so teams will need to be ready to go to ensure we avoid delays. Please keep an eye on your SPEED OF PLAY.

Water and beer will be available at the caddy area and two drink carts will roam the course providing further refreshments.

There will be 4 novelty holes with Long Drive Men and Women, Nearest the Line Men and Women and two nearest the pin holes. All of these holes will have banners announcing their presence.

The menu for after the game has been made kitchen friendly to ensure golfers get their meals with the minimum of delay once ordered.

The President

When TeeSet play the Interleague excitement quite intense prevails amongst their barrackers assembled around the 19th. After shanghaiing Ric and Tom, TeeSet were ready to take on last year’s champions The Sharks. A large group of players representing the various teams were present and TeeSet had 3 groups of 4 also heading out for a usual TeeSet round. Conditions were hot at the start which is always an omen of things to come.

TeeSet lead by Captain Dean headed out to do battle. The A flight off 7 was late so myself and Dean head out. Thank god they were pretty slow behind us after 3 holes they were nowhere in sight another group said their Shark players were very slow also causing the marshall to hurry them along. So TeeSet in light of the 1 win and a half, I would suggest super slow play to put the other team off or the fact we may be saved by rain or light. It did cost the Sharks team a win probably, 2 down 3 to play and down come the heavens. So, TeeSetters remember good pace of play is just common golfing etiquette. Well done Sharks on the win and a gallant second by the mighty TeeSetters. Rock On!

Now TeeSet did manage to be the longest on the frothies, a win in any sporting clubs book. The President, Captain Dean and Shanghaied Ric were last to leave the club, besides security. The excellent staff at Jags even re-opened the bar. So action on the course by TeeSetters was only so so, the APRES GOLF action TeeSetters clear winners by a country mile. No pedestrians were injured in the drive home, we believe.

The rain at 6pm at Jags last Sunday. The benefit of parking your car on the far side of the carpark is you get to stay and get on the beers!

Vijay took home the chocolates on Sunday with the best net. I don’t like that shirt at all.

KOJO MONTHLY MEDAL AT CENGKARENG

Teesetters we return to the course that hosts the monthly medal once again to battle it out for the Kojo Medallion. A great opportunity to also team up with your fellow World Cup Team mates and see which one is just along for the beers. Monthly Medal means men off Blue, Ladies off Red.

If you need a buggy to cart you around the course you will need to book in advance as they are in limited supply at Cengkareng. More importantly sign up via MyGolf2U asap so arrangements can be made.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The World Cup of Golf will be held at Riverside Golf Course on Sunday the 11th of June. It will be a full shotgun start for the 27 teams (full field). May the best team win, naturally an Australian one. Tee off time is 12.30 but be there by 11.30 to make the organisers job easier. Nothing worse than herding confused TeeSetters moaning about missing clubs because they arrived at 12.25.

As we have a full school make sure you are not agonising over putts or sending your caddie back every time for a club change. We will be chasing the sun on this Sunday so keeping a good speed of play means everyone enjoys the day. There will be 4 skill holes on the day. Also prizes for the winners, best gross team and best dressed team. For a bit of extra fun we will be having a lucky draw also.

Players will be well watered and beered as they wander the course in search of victory. A roving drinks cart on each nine will provide players will fluids. Eating is cheating 2 shot penalty.

With the World Cup, TeeSet Birthday Scramble and The TeeSet Championship being the Indonesian equivalent of the Masters, US Open and The US PGA this is a great opportunity to sponsor. A sponsorship package will be sent out by WhatsApp tomorrow.

President “Frothy” Seabrook

A very scenic place is Rancamaya, so scenic in fact that the golf club has made huge swathes of it OB and Oh Buggar was the call of many a golfer on Sunday. TeeSet arrived with a squad of 26 with some very evenly matched paired or so it seemed on paper. 13 pairs went out to do battle for TeeSet and 9 came home with their heads lowered. Not even the army ship ploy seemed to work. However when golfing with TeeSet there is always a silver lining to every grey cloud. Sunday’s silver lining came in the form of Renny and Juju who with 4 holes to play were 3 down. They then choked the life out of the DOGS pair and came home winners. A last hole victory is the best victory as you get to see the pain of defeat on the losing team’s faces and to win the last 4 holes is nothing short of fantastic.

The two other victories went to our low hcp Team of Simon and Bobby and the other winning pair was Patrick and Michael, the high handicap pairing. Patrick complained of a sore back having carried the President for the first 10 holes. The pair then ignited to win the next 6 holes and put the DOGS pair to the sword with the biggest winning margin for the TeeSetters that day. Simon of the very pastel yellow shorts and Bobby had revenge over the pair that beat them the previous year. So whilst we may have been belted off the course, let’s keep the fire burning in the belly for when we take to Rancamaya next year and skin the DOGS. With a rebel yell TEESET!

This Sunday we have the Interleague games. TeeSet is still looking for a player or two to join the squad. Please let us know if you can make the Interleague team as we start our march up the comp table to undoubtable victory later this year. It is a semi shotgun start so make sure you are on time. TeeSetters not taking part in the Interleague games will have their usual Sunday out at JAgorawi chasing Stableford points and low gross prizes.

What does the future hold for TeeSet?

Plenty we have the monthly medal at the lovely Cengkerang Course. This is followed by a trip to Gunung Geulis on the 4th of June when the rains will have left the mountains and moved to Malaysia. On the 11th of June we have the World Cup at Riverside, which once again is a sellout, with teams representing countries from all corners of the globe. We have started a wait list in case of any dropouts.

This is the 40th anniversary of the TeeSet golf society and we have a few things in store. World Cup in June, Birthday Scramble in September and the Championship in December. We are looking for companies and individuals to get onboard and help TeeSet with some sponsorship. You will get recognition at all 3 events and have banners at the skill holes as well as in the club house. The President will sing your praises in every after round wind down. Next week we will send out a sponsorship package with greater detail. In the meantime you can ask yourselves “Not what TeeSet can do for you but what you can do for TeeSet”. (If the sponsorship is large enough we might bring in a few LIV players on their weekend off to help us stick it to the DOGS next year)

President ‘for only another 6 months’ Seabook

True enjoyment awaited the TeeSet golfers who went out to contest last month’s medal. The weather in Asia has been pretty hot this last fortnight and Sunday midday was no different. The President had put in a couple of days preparation for the Medal, Friday saw him propping up the bar at EP until some ungodly hour (The hour when they close it). Saturday it was off on the Batavia Hash House Harriers run which always ends messy, guaranteed. So feeling a million bucks, well a million Rups, it was off to challenge for the Medal. Men off blues ladies off red. That first tee box, the blue was way at the back. Drove it straight down the middle to the corner. Luckily they have lots of drink stops on the course to take the pain away. Others fared better see below.

Medal winner Thijs Penning with a nett 66. Came for the golf stayed for the beer.

Claudio back in the winners’ circle with a gross 81 for best gross. Winners are grinners. Also seen stumbling off the 17th into the Marshal’s cart to be assisted to the 18th. He could stand unassisted on the first so no rules broken.

No mucking around in the heat for Manish nailed a birdie on the first hole. Well done.

Velma takes the pretty flamingoes for 28 with the flat stick.

Well done to James with a Sandy Birdie. Two thumbs up for that one on the 10th.

Long Driving David took the chocolates today for the men with a well positioned drive of 235m a bit longer in yards.

68cm, give or take an inch or two, is how close John was to the pin when it mattered on the NTP hole.

With a fist full of flamingoes Shinta takes long drive 198m and nearest the pin 277cm. Well done now to master the flat stick.

KEDATON this Sunday

A lovely course, whilst quite flat has a few hazards to keep you on your toes. A great clubhouse and good food. The men have the option of playing off white. A great warm up round for the coming DOGS match play challenge the following week in Rancamaya. So maybe organise a few unofficial matchplay games this Sunday to get you up to speed on Matchplay pressure. Sign up on MyGolf2U ASAP to avoid disappointment.

Upcoming Events

Rancamaya Golf Extravaganza hosted over 3 days with JAWS DOGS and TeeSet all involved in the DOGS big Charity weekend. There will be a great BBQ on Saturday night. TeeSet Matchplayer team members, Bill Lloyd is the curfew man you must be in bed before him on Saturday night. Sign up on the DOGS MyGolf2U tournament for this weekend 12-14th of May. Sign with JAWs if playing the Friday also.

The World Cup is coming in June 24 full teams and a couple of nearly full teams capped at 27 teams so let us know if you want to join a team. These last teams will most likely be UN teams and not have the bickering issues that national teams have. Get to work on your team uniforms. There will be a great prize for best dressed team. Also we will have lucky draws and 6 novelty holes. Looking for hole sponsors if anyone is interested please contact the President. Full course shotgun start will be a cracking day.
