Padang Golf Modern

The day

Just 18 Tee Setters showed up at PGM, so we guess the late tee time combined with a challenging ride back was not so attractive to a lot of Tee Setters.

Ironically, we got off a few minutes earlier than the scheduled 12:50, and were to find a course in tip-top shape and the weather “Jakarta best”. Slightly slow round but bearable. While we hate the late start and the late drive home, the last 6 holes in the late afternoon cool and fading light were a great pleasure.

One newcomer to report, Leona Jelinkova, enjoy your play with us, Leona, just remember that in future you will usually have to get up earlier for your Tee Set rounds!

5 Welcome backs, most notably that of Steve Wood who was to rather enjoy his day’s play as you will discover.

The play

PGM -Detail

75 off the stick was Steve Woods reward on his return to Teeset to take Low Gross,  highlighted by that rare bird, the eagle, on hole 4 where he holed out from 90 metres, slam dunk straight in the hole – and a mind-boggling 22 putts – and the only sandy of the day to take a near clean sweep of the main honours. Unfortunately his lift, our Pawang Hujan, was in a hurry to get home to watch his first love, Geelong, in a replay and Steve was OB when the money was given out. Thanks for the donations Steve, you have made the acting President of Everything very happy.

The Treasurer’s grin broadened with a rare skirt from Jan Janda, the only one of the day, and Monster Putter from Wina who made money overall with a fine 2 metres or so to take Closest to the Pin.

George Bevege caught the Handicap Committee’s eye by winning Low Nett for the second week in a row. We can assure you George that no one wins it 3 weeks in a row.

Overall, another day of low scores with many chip-ins helping! Of the 18 rounds played, 6 were under 90 off  the stick and 7 Tee Setters shot better than handicap.

Full, player by player, results can be found here.

Next up

Royale 2Something of a special treat for Tee Setters next week in the shape of the newest and certainly one of the very best courses around, Royale Jakarta, where, despite a late-ish start of 11:52, we will be paying a premium 850,000 roops in green fees etc including cart. Anyone who has played the course will tell you that it’s well worth its premium and the writer is particularly sad to be missing  the occasion due to bucket and spade duties in Phuket. Many thanks to Wina for organising this one.

Places for Royale Jakarta are likely to be restricted to just 32 and we already have a lot of bookings, so get onto “Yes. I’m playing!” as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment as they say.

Royale 1

See yah at Royale!!! … Tee Set

PS The British Open (The Open) is coming in a couple of weeks and Everest Bar in Blok M is putting on an “Open Evening” dedicated to the last day’s play at Muirfield which may have attractions for some Tee Setters – have a look at the details here.
