Kedaton, Sunday 2nd February

Over a third of the field succumbed to the cross dressing urge 🙂

The Day

An early feature of the day was the number of Tee Setters turning up late even by their own standards and, with the starter getting us away early, latecomers had to fit in as best they could, with Mo Maharam being latest of all and required to make a bunch of new Korean friends! Many of the late arrivals were due to the rather complicated exit from the Merak toll, though this can hardly explain Wina’s non-arrival as she knows the course better than most if not all.

Just one Newcomer on the day, one Richard Thistlewood, resident of Mauritius and visiting father-in-law Keith Miller – and making sure that the latter’s retirement peace is disturbed for a week by demanding daily golf during his visit. Welcome to Tee Set, Richard!

Most prominent amongst the Welcome Backs were Manoj Mishra and Mike Taylor. Manoj we have not seen for some 29 weeks and he finally managed to drag himself away from the wife and kids on a Sunday by giving them his credit card and sending them to the local Mall. A very expensive round then, Manoj; come back soon. Mike is of course the man who stole Lisa, the Tee Set’s last but one secretary in a heinous piece of larceny for which he has still not been forgiven by the committee at least. With Lisa stuck in the USA with visa issues and unable to leave the country, Mike bravely came to Jakarta on his own after finishing work in Angola.

BTW how delicious is that? – an Indonesian being worked over by Immigrasi for once rather than we much put-upon boules  🙂

For the fourth week in a row, we were rain affected – but once again dodged the bullet – with play stopped for just 5 minutes or so early on in a round that finished in glorious sunshine. Kedaton

A special mention for Kedaton itself as the day reminded us that it really is a nice (if exceptionally long) course with greens in excellent condition in spite of recent rains and, with lift clean and cheat in operation, it was always possible to find a “dryish” spot within 10 metres of one’s ball on the fairways!

Finally with big bottles at a little over 80,000 a pop, a number of Tee Setters were pining for Pondok Cabe pricing though providing some balance was the very reasonably priced and generally excellent food – with the samosas particularly meritorious and deserving of special mention – best in Jakarta in the view of all those who tried them.

The Play Prizes Thurmond Borden returned to the winner’s circle once again this week with a 72 to win low net, brought about not least by some fine fringe placing in making the day’s Low Putts of just 26. Sadly, Thurmond had to rush away early and his winnings stay in the pot. It is with something less than astonishment that we have to report Sam Westen shooting the day’s Low Gross of 79, something of a drop in standard compared to some of his recent performances; a 79 is clearly a handicap retention round from Sam!

ChristianCouple of consistent prize winners in Mel Meeds who took 1st Birdie and Christian Molau once again for his first par for a >= 30 Handicapper – we hope both of them are declaring this regular source of income on their tax returns.

Top skirt venues11 skirts this week bringing the broadest smile seen on the Treasurer’s face in some time, Many thanks to all for their contributions; we shall use them wisely. The general opinion was that 11 skirts on a day must be a new record, however, a quick scan of the data indicates that 11 was only to tie with Palm Hill and Rancamaya as you will see from this league table showing the top 12 skirt venues since records began a little over two years ago on 1st January 2012.

The more observant will spot that Palm Hills is what your treasurer would describe as a “nice little earner”. Tom Alcedo

Tom Alcedo hasn’t been around for a while but felt immediately at home again in taking 42 blows with the blade and the week’s Monster Putter ward; welcome back, Tom! A very special 12 including three water balls on one hole wins Dan Richards a deserved Most Strokes on Any Hole award for the first time. Happens to us all, Dan 🙂

Brenda took some nice photos of the day and all of them can be found at our photo gallery. Fuller, player by results can be found here.

2014 Tee Set Matchplay Championship Just 9 signed up so far for the Matchplay being run by Fernando Gaggino this year, so get signed up here if you intend playing and haven’t committed yet, we really need to get numbers established so we can get the draw done and the comp started. Entry fee of just 100,000 which you should settle with Brenda next time you play.

Next Week

Sunday coming sees us at Matoa, our Monthly Medal home until the end of 2013, and a venue not without its fans, not least because it is rather conveniently situated for some. Nonetheless, the poor conditions of the fairways and indeed the rough and, to a lesser extent the greens, meant that we needed to move on – as we have done.

Happy to report however that, at great personal inconvenience if not cost, the immediate past President of Everything gave it the once over yesterday and reports that the recent rains have even managed to take away the browning that was evident almost everywhere on the course throughout last year.

A very decent course again therefore and, with reasonable if recently elevated green fees at 690,000 roops all in – or just 540,000 if you wish to exercise your legs and lungs, you should sign up here.

Tee off at 11:30 off two tee boxes as ever, and the possibility of getting away a little early, equally as ever. So you are strongly advised not to be late. Again 🙂

See yah Sunday …. Tee Set

Congratulations to Sam Westen, Evaldo Roos and Peter Bush who shared the best dressed award for this week. Their colourful outfits would have made even John Daly green with envy.
