Sunday 26th January 2020 Cengkareng Monthly Medal

The Day

A very weary President Roger Finnie arrived fairly early but with coordination an issue after the excellent Burns Supper the night before, he was most appreciative of Craig Edwards and VP Ric Wymer taking the reins for the day. Although the day itself was a perfect sunny day, that we were able to be playing at all after several days of rain is a testament to the quality of the course drainage as can be seen from the contrasting pictures of the 18th green from Friday afternoon and Sunday morning. The 10th tee box must however have been very soft as the VP of Almost Everything appeared to have sunk up to his knees whilst warming up before the round.

Clearly some softer areas on the course but over all it played very well, if just a little longer than normal which was reflected in the scoring on the day. As always, we were well looked after by the Cengkareng team and a good day was had by all.

No welcome backs of note this week but 4 new-comers were given a warm Tee Set welcome: Dean Callaway, Gary Wilkinson, Kwang Sik Kim and Paul Robertson.

Pictures of the day can be found here and many thanks to our Secretary Beby for doing all the registrations and scoring on the day.

The Play

5 players tied on 10 strokes escaped a group photo thanks to Timo Karonen’s Most Strokes of 11 but joining him for the skirt photo were Andrew Shaw, Andy Briston, Bill Lloyd, Graham Parsonage, Jari Antikainen, Paul Robertson and Stuart Bennett.

2 two-way tie on Monster Putter with newcomers Paul Robertson and Kwang Sik Kim needing some more practise on Cengkareng’s smooth greens. First Par for Handicaps>=30 went to Cory Packard whilst James Ross took home Most Improved. Recovering his fine with 1st Sandy was Andy Briston with 1st Birdie being secured by Doug McQuater.

Principal Fringe dweller for a second week was Petri Lahdekorpi whilst Tim Knight was our double winner on the day for both NTP and Low Gross. Long Drive Men went to Lorenzo Marengo whilst both ladies playing conspired to miss the fairway leaving that prize unclaimed.

Low Net winners on the day were Simon Reynolds, Leon Bivolaru and Stefan Thiele whilst taking home the Monthly Medal for the first time was Tribhuvan Singh.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Form_ Current Results 26-01-20

Tee Set Match Play

The drawing for the 2020 first round matches to determine the 2 brackets was held on Sunday as planned with the current 23 registered players matched up by a draw. There are still some places left in the competition and so we can accept additional entries through the end of February when the Emas and Kunning brackets will be determined and the competition moves to its knock-out stage.

If you are still interested to join up please register here. For those already registered, please check out the same page (in a couple of days) to check your first round opponent and to arrange your matches with-in the deadline.

Schedule

We are still playing with the schedule as we balance maintaining a reasonable value proposition for our games with the rainy season challenges and a variety of courses. We will post the first semester later this week but the current planning for February, after this week is:

  • 9th February BSD
  • 16th February Senayan
  • 23rd February Cengkareng Monthly Medal

Next Up: Takara Golf Resort Sunday 2nd February 2020

For the first time in a couple of years, this Sunday we add a new course to the Tee Set schedule as we head out way west, actually just a little further west than before, to Takara Golf Resort. Several Tee Setters have visited the course in recent months and come back with good reports so we have decided to give it a go.

Takara is around 55 km west of Jakarta on the Tangerang-Merak Toll, exit one later than Kedaton at the East Balaraja Toll Gate 1 and head south – best look it up on google maps. We have negotiated a good rate for this inaugural visit at Rp750,000 including cart (usually Rp725,000 walking) and the tee time is 11.30am. If you are interested to sign up and try our this new venue with us please do so here.

The distance is around the same as Rancamaya or Lotus Lakes but for those who usually taxi, we would be happy to help coordinate with other Tee Setters to arrange lift sharing if you are not able to find someone yourselves. Please make a note when signing up in the comments box so we can get onto it early in the week.

What tees are you playing at Takara Golf Resort? The Blues are 6530 m (7183 yds) or Whites 6070 m (6677 yds.).

Geary thanks for the question. I believe the stated distances are in yards not meters so the blue tees play 6,530 yards; if this is the case we will play these tees. We will double check the information at the course on arrival and confirm to all those playing. Our usual benchmark in choosing tees for men is to play the first tee box longer than 6,300 yards although this may be changed on the day by the committee based on conditions.

      kind regards
      Roger
