Writing this as I sitting at my desk in that Thai tropical paradise of Phuket, and puck it this is what I must do for the TeeSet crew.

Glorious conditions once more greeted us on Sunday as we have now settled into the dry season and good golf beckoned. Let’s seewhat happened. Standing on the 10th tee box in the 3rd flight let’s see if we could fair better than the previous groups who had all managed to push their balls into or over the tree line on the right handside. Well, 3 out of 4 choose this line also and the game was on. A few bogies and double, standard warm up stuff.

Halim is well treed and wondering into the woods generally means you will find your ball, but will have to have balls of steel to take the shortest route to the hole as the branches and trucks of trees offer litlte hope on this route. But the writer has a secret weapon, St Jude, Patron Saint of those in desperate situations, and that I was on many occassion deep in the bush when a recital of words chosen by golfers in this predictiment, with Jude mentioned at the end and, hey ho let’s go out of the trees in a prime position. Due to children potentially reading this article the recital of the magical chant cannot be printed, but those with in earshot ( upto 400 metre radius) may have heard it.

The greens at Halim offer great challenges, besides the usual green side traps they are typically raised so shots into them need to take this into account. And just to double down on hard to hit greens, the fringes are well watered and the greens are on the small side.

This lead to results that were a complete opposite of last week’s glorious round at The Manor. Last Sunday saw ONE player break par via the Stableford system and 2 others achieve it. Thus making Halim a more challeging course for golfers. Most liked the challenge and are keen to get back to master this course. Halim also has one of the more difficult index 1 holes around.

Tigaraksa this Sunday

It is not too late to play this wonderful heritage course which is now on the heritage championship list. A truly wonderful layout with great greens. An older style clubhouse offering great food and beer at reasonable prices and without a doubt the best changeroom facilities in town. A pleasant Sunday’s drive from Kemang gets you there in under an hour. It get’s the GLORIOUS stamp of approval. on the way home you could stop at Sale for a sumptious Italian feed also.
